I haven't made it out to Kate's but was brought three of their pies and they are delicious!! The crust on these pies shine and are a buttery, flakey crust which is my personal preference. Pictured is the Triple Berry pie and Apple Pie. The apple pie was classic, slightly tart and cinnamony. The Berry pie was similarly classic slightly tart but delicious. Not pictured was a slice of their coconut cream pie which was outstanding!! With its flakey crust, custard like base and thick coconut cream which I believe was slightly torched if my memory is correct, it was the perfect not too sweet bite. read more

I've been dining here since I was a kid. Everything is homemade and delicious. Their pies are beyond reproach; especially the lemon meringue and coconut cream. There's always a wait to get a seat, but it usually moves pretty quickly. My Mom and I had breakfast here recently and each ordered the vegetarian omelettes with a side of biscuits and gravy. It's dirty, all the people I've ever dealt with there have been rude and the food is garbage. However I would get pies there for an elderly neighbor. 20 dollars. Always over priced but she likes them so I deal with it. Get there today - well the price is now 21. Keep in mind they cheat the tax code and only take cash. The place is a downriver classic Mom and Pop breakfast place. Homemade pies and breads. Pies get sold but the bread doesn't. Their prices have changed with the times but their quality remains the same which I think says a lot: they could have cut corners and cheapened the product but they didn't. Thank you, Kate. The French toast, for instance, still has plenty of what my cousin named the "goo factor" so it has plenty of cinnamon and brown sugar and more goodness rolled into a slice. Friendly service. Every time we go is a delicious experience. Their food quality is amazing and the portion size is too. Limited hours (Thursday - Sunday, until 2:00 only) and cash only. But every one of their 15 - ish tables is full the whole time. Not ideal for large groups, as none of the tables really accommodate more than 6 or so people. The biscuits were better than had in a long time. Would recommend but there is a wait and food takes a minute but all fresh and worth the wait! Kate's Kitchen is a gem of a diner with great food and friendly service. Our server was really busting it and working hard. Looks like they are understaffed but the wait isn't too terrible. The only drawback is no option for debit/credit payment. Cash only. We aren't local, so I'm not sure if this is temporary. So my bucket list of restaurants down river, I had to say this was outstanding. The food here is incredible. The staff is really super nice. I love the ambience of feeling like you're old store and you're at home with home cooking. I enjoyed the southern omelette with smothered and sausage gravy that's a 10 out of 10. Best little hidden spot for desserts in flat rock , the pies are phenomenal and tasty you won't be disappointed in the least bit ...but they have the BEST biscuits and gravy I've tasted in a long time but beware if you try to get breakfast from them it's busy in weekends after church goers take over the place . It's been 5 years now since this happened, still haven't been back. So rude, so disrespectful the blonde waitress with 24 years. Our 3rd and final visit left us in awe. She had a line at the door and register while keeping a giggling conversation going with a customer, just ignore everyone and her job. After 10 minutes of useless gab. She finally started checking customers out. We sat ourselves in a booth, waiting another 10 minutes she arrives with a rude sad face, just moments ago in joyful laughter. Got our drink and wife started order a all meat omelet with double meat. She then tells wife that's gonna be a really expensive Omelet, ,, how rude , how such a mean look on your face, what don't think we can afford it. We very often order double meat on many items eating out 300 days per. Totally uncalled for. I inquire for many sources finding out she's been like this forever with dozens of negative rude reviews on many sites I viewed and a former worker telling me she's a real B. My friend ordered a carry out. Simple order. The woman said it would be 35-40 minutes. We were gonna get the biscuits and strawberries but the lady said they wouldn't have those till next week (seasonal item). We figured hey, good reason to hang out next week lol. After 30 minutes we were literally less than one minute away when Kate's Kitchen started calling. My friend answered twice and there was nobody on the other end. Both times she said I can't hear you but I'm less than a minute away. They kept calling, she didn't answer. Then also a Wyandotte number was calling. She didn't answer. B!tch buttoned all the calls. They literary called her non stop up until she was walking through the door. The owner admitted to calling non stop trying to say it was just because she didn't want the food sitting there getting cold and she said she could hear my friend on the line. So if she could hear her, why did she keep calling non stop after my friend said "I can't hear you but we're less than a minute away"! There's more that happened inside but my friend can write that review. And the Wyandotte number that was calling was some little rood kid that was working there that the owner told to call my friend. So after 30 minutes the owner decided it would be a good idea to call non stop and enlist one of her workers as well to call from their cell phone to harass my friend to come get our food when THEY said it would be 35-40 minutes (we got there early). The food, it was awful. Biscuits were dry and hard, the gravy was burn you skin off hot and runny and the French toast was ice cold. Plus she asked for extra butter and got no butter. Another couple walked out with my friend. Apparently they had been waiting over an hour for their food, simple breakfast eggs and toast. They were walking out the door as they brought it from the kitchen. What a joke this place is. Oh, and the biscuits and strawberries I posted about at the beginning, well they posted on their FB page within minutes of my friend ordering that they had biscuits and strawberries and to come on in to get em. I know because I went to their FB page to leave a review (which they conveniently don't have a review tab) and seen it and the time they posted. Amazing breakfast. Never get anything else. It is so, so, good. My husband gets other options, and also enjoys them. Also, get a whole pie. Last one was raspberry and peach. Best pie ever.
