I LOVE this place. Surprisingly good for a place like Tehachapi. The only Japanese place you'll find there. The food tastes great and the staff has always been friendly to me. You can usually see the owner cooking with the other cooks. He was trained in France so he uses some French techniques in his Japanese cooking. The place is small and opened only at lunch time and Dinner time. But it has served good times to my family and friends. I have many memories of that place and hope it does the same for others. If you're a couple I recommend getting one of the boxes. It has plenty of food for two people. read more

I've been here twice and both times have been phenomenal as far as quality of food. The first time, my boyfriend and I sat at the sushi bar and had wonderful service. The second time, I came alone and was seated at a table and had exceptionally poor service. However, the sushi is worth coming back for, and I certainly will! came here with a group for dinner.. they arent open until 5 just fyi so you arent waiting outside like we were.. lol.. I cant speak for everyone else (who seemed to like what they got as well..) but I got the Veggie Tempura Dinner which came with soup salad and rice.. AKA WAY TOO MUCH FOOD lol.. and super hungry me also got a veggie roll which i scarfed in 2.5 seconds and The hot green tea which I drank the whole pot lol.. The negative 1 star is for the waitress who gave me stank eye anyyyyytime I asked for anything.. :( and had ZEROOO personality.. Total surprise as we were just traveling through town and gave it a shot based on reviews. There was a 15 min wait on a table at 6ish on a Wednesday, a lot of to-go orders and available seating at the bar. We opted for the bat. While they were very busy, we had good service and amazing food. The Miso soup had excellent texture and (as I am in love will all things dumping) really enjoyed the fried (read 'deep fried') dumplings. My Cuz had the spicy garlic roll, and wished (as did I) that we could have eaten more. Alas, our road trip called and we moved on. Highly recommend. I had a stomach ache after eating raw tuna roll. The floor was busy that saturday night. This restaurant has been in town for a long time and they're pretty popular. I would still go back there but not eat anything raw. I would recommend trying the "other" japanese" restaurant Midori. I'm not getting paid to say this. So this is my favorite restaurant to eat at. The chicken moray is phenomenal! The Lauren roll (not on the menu) is amazing! Service is pretty good sometimes it slow but usually because it's packed. I ordered my food to go (and ordered for the office). That being said I thought it would take for ever to get my food, which literally was done in 15 minutes! The sushi we got was tasty and the customer service was awesome. The people working there looked happy to be there so all around I can't wait to eat there in restaurant! I'm not entirely sure if I'm allowed to review Kasagiri since i've worked there, but i loved this little restaurant way before then. But to comment on that really bad review below, its weird because.. for one: we do have miso for two: takashi makes the teriyaki sauce from scratch (a lot is made from scratch in the restaurant) for three: Yes, kasagiri has been there forever, like twenty years... because its good ^_^ and four: there is NO way that you would have been un-bothered by your server in our restaurant especially when its slow, -especially-, the one bad thing about working in a restaurant where the owners are there is the fact that you always have to be working or at least wiping something. but to end on a good note, i seriously have not had better tempura udon anywhere else. seriously. if you come to kasagiri order the caterpillar roll king salmon steak or temp udon or everything! which is also good. read more

My husband and I had sushi rolls here that were so good. They also made us their Japanese tacos, sushi in the tiniest taco shell packed with flavor! I agree with other reviewers who found the service lacking. Our server was rude and without personality, The teriyaki chicken and beef were very bland and not fresh. The tempura batter looked great but there was no seasoning and tasted like cardboard. I asked for dipping sauce for my California roll sushi (the worst I have ever had) and was given a dish that I was told I could use for soy sauce. Dipping sauce is normally a combination of soy, mirin and sesame oil but they did not know this or just didn't want to make it. We just left the restaurant an hour ago and now both my wife and I are feeling sickly. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL read more

My family comes here for special occasions. The owner is always very nice and welcoming. It is a small place that can fill up quick if everybody gets the urge for sushi. Best Japanese restaurant in town. This place has been here for many many years. We have three sushi places in town which is very unusual for a small town like this. We don't even have a chicken place. In any case, Joon the owner has been working here since he was a young boy. He keeps the place up since taking it over from his dad and you can't get much better. I was surprised at the size of the menu. The staff is very friendly, and always smiling. Food portions are pretty good sized. It is a little pricey, but well worth it. The beers and hot saki are all very good. The seating area is not very big, so if you have a big group, you might want to call ahead, to give them a heads up. If you want to experience heaven on earth this is the place to go. I highly recommend the baked lobster sushi. It is the perfect potion size and aside from being deliciously warm it's got the perfect amount of red, spicy sauce drizzled on the top after they take out of oven.
