Custom cake

We had a cake made for a small baby shower and it was perfect! Their pricing was better than anyone else and Sheila was easy to work with. Highly recommend if you are wanting to impress your guests with something pretty and tasty! Also--some of the baked goods they carry that I am just in love with: their GF no-bake chocolate PB cookies, the peanut butter pie blondie bars, the maple bars are delish, and their Apple Fritters are divine!

Delicious donuts! A great local find! Kids say it's the best donuts in town! Cozy atmosphere and nice service, right next to Funko!

Bacon and Egg Breakfast Croissant

Hopped into Karl's for a quick breakfast. I started with the bacon and egg breakfast croissant. It had a good amount of filling so not all bread, crispy and a bit greasy - although it all added to the taste. Just beware you'll need to wash your hands or eat from the bag! I also had the blueberry cheesecake donut. Several large fresh blueberries on top of a soft cream cheese icing. The donut itself was very moist and falling apart. My only complaints was their coffee machine was down so only drip coffee and tea was available. No latte or other items that were listed.

Whether you're about to hop into line at Funko HQ or leaving it, Karl's is a sweet stop that shouldn't be missed. In fact, leaving Funko HQ I overheard someone raving to her partner that they had to pick up a box of donuts from Karl's before they left town. Intrigued, and always a sucker for a donut, I stepped in to see about the hype. The interior is a nice mix of a bakery and a diner, with a nice variety of donuts and pastries. When I went in, there was even a cake consultation taking place at one of the booths. Donuts average about $2 per, but they're pretty big to make up for it. Paying by card? There may be an added fee if you don't meet the minimum, however they are accepting cash (at first I thought they were cashless, as their credit card system is pretty large). The donuts are a tad oily, so if you're not planning on enjoying right away and didn't get a box: be sure to ask for extra napkins, and be mindful of where you're storing the bag. Street parking is available, just be aware of any signs. Parking enforcement was pretty active, even on a rainy morning, so getting a ticket may be too easy of an achievement to unlock.

First cake I ever bought

Always amazing. Cake is so fresh and moist. Everyone loves the cakes look and flavors

Sheila made the most amazing wedding cake for my son's wedding, and she was, such a pleasure to work with! The donuts are delicious too!

Next door to Funko, Karl's Bakery and Cafe since 1944 (8/31/19)

I love old school, indie bake shops, especially if they feature doughnuts! Karl's Bakery and Café is located next door to Funko on Wetmore in downtown Everett. They have been in business since 1944 so definitely they have the goods to prove their staying power. Selected a chocolate raised, lemon bar, and a chocolate Bismarck to go. Paused at the outdoor seating to photograph said items for Yelp. The lemon bar got hoovered by The Homie. Meanwhile the chocolate Bismarck got nibbled and then fully consumed by me. OMG the flavor of the chocolate glaze, texture of the doughnut, and the copious, luscious pastry cream inside. I still think about that doughnut. My goodness, mmmmm that doughnut. The chocolate raised did make it home and into the refrigerator. However, it got demolished the following day by The Homie. Three items...we're morons. We should have bought a dozen they were that good. Simple, no frills, well executed doughnuts. Yes, highly recommended!

Sheila did an amazing job making this cake based off a few photo suggestions and ideas!

I was visiting my dad for his birthday and wanted to surprise him with a special cake. He thinks Minions are hilarious, so I thought it'd be funny to get him a Minion-inspired cake. Sheila did an incredible job! The cake was delicious and beautiful. I can't thank Sheila enough for her patient guidance in figuring out how I wanted the cake to look. My dad laughed his head off when he saw it--mission accomplished, thanks to Sheila! P.S. The donuts are AMAZING!! Just get a dozen (for yourself)!

A lot of reviews for Karl's Bakery are for the wedding cakes, but I feel like people need to know the greatness of the donuts here. It's ironic that the lightest donuts I've ever had will make me heavier, but the carbs and calories are totally worth it. I bought a dozen assorted donuts (chose 12, all different, for $15 or so). Wish I could include a picture, but it was blurry and I ate them all before I realized it. I don't plan on ever getting married, but I'd imagine the cake from here would be my choice--or maybe I'll just stack two dozen donuts and throw on the bride and groom figurines and call it a wedding cake.

Apple Fritter, Cream Filled

Good cookies and donuts, just the classic. Decent selection at 11am on a Wednesday. Cookies 4/5, Cream Filled 3/5, Apple Fritter 2.5/5. Snickerdoodle had a good texture, soft inside with a firm outside. Nice amount of cinnamon sugar. Not a strong eggy snickerdoodle flavor I personally love but a faint taste. Cream filled was a good size and filling amount. Sweet pudding like filling, frosting was sweet but not firm on the outside and quite messy. Fritter was of a decent sweetness but really no apple flavor. Not super crisp but crisper than it appeared to my eyes at first.

The best donut shop in Everett I just found! I was here in the way to the farmers market, and found the donuts sign outside of this shop. I was very skeptical at first and didn't know if I would like this place. I only ordered 1 donut when I got rejected for a sample. I like donuts but not all donuts. They need to be fresh and soft. My favorite is general porpoise in Capital hill. After I had a bite and found the donut was so fresh and soft no weird aftertaste. I went for a half dozen and paid extra 8 bucks. It's $2 a donut and $10 for a half dozen. It is a little more than what you'd pay for a donut but it's worth it!! The lady told me if I didn't like it then i can trade for something else. No need!! I just needed more to share with my kids and my hubby. Sure enough, my family all liked the donuts, and now I went to the shop again 2 weeks in a row. If you want fresh soft donuts, come by this shop. Sadly the farmers market won't be back until next spring. But I will come back to this shop for sure when I crave for good donuts. Note: they don't have so many variety and not many in quantity which I can tell why the donuts at this shop are very fresh.

We hit up Funko and then this bakery for a snack en route back to car ( parked in bank parking lot ) After a chaotic Sunday afternoon in Funko and chasing around kiddos , i dont know if it was the magic of the sweets or the calm atmosphere or the cup o coffee but this place was empty and amazing. 3 adults and 2 rowdy kids walking in here felt like i went back in time. Huuuuuge treats and an apple fritter the size of my head. We had cookies and donuts at around 2:00pm and there was still lots to choose from at the counter. I thought it would be limited to choose but we all got something we wanted. M&m cookies , apple juices for kids was a big hit. Restrooms in back as well so we were all set to go back to car refreshed and will def be back next time we're in Everett.

I wish they gave a little more as I end up finishing the sauces before the burrito is done because they're sooo tasty with the burrito. I also wish they had other meat options other than bacon. They don't have chicken add ins but other than that it's a great place! I've also had their biscuit and jam, but that's just ok. I wouldn't get it again. It's not that tasty or memorable. However, and I'd like to share my feedback on my experiences. - The food is decent, though it's often prepared for presentation rather than taste. It frequently arrives cold. - The coffee and tea are overpriced and tastes mediocre. - for instance, I paid $8 for a 4-ounce mix of espresso and orange juice that made my stomach hurt. - I also paid nearly $7 for the "peach blossom tea" and ended up getting 3/4 cup of ice, packet tea, and sweetener in a cup. - I've tried nearly everything on the drink menu and nothing is 'great' - The wait time for an order is incredibly long, and the employees are often distracted and preoccupied with other tasks, making it difficult to get my order taken. Overall, go to narrative for the ambiance and food, NOT the drinks.

My friend moved to downtown Everett last year and is still exploring the area. She told me about…read morethe vegan joint nearby that she hadn't been to yet. We're both omnivores who eat a fair amount of plant-based fare for health reasons (I have allergies and intolerances, she's heeding doctor's advice). To be clear, this is a cafe, not a full blown restaurant. They serve luncheon fare, but it's a small operation so be either patient to don't bother - especially if there's a line. It's counter ordering with payment expected in advance. The tables closest to the window are a *little* harrowing because of the ADA ramp that leads to the door: the closest chairs can teeter down the ramp if the chairs are pushed back too far. Be careful. There are huge, regular, and small tables available. The biggest table is a little tricky to navigate for folks who want to sit in the booth side, but once seated it's quite lovely. I ordered the Pesto Pasta (involving zoodles: zucchini noodles) and a Sun Juice. My friend ordered the Grilled Cheese and Bisque. Please note: it's worth looking around this place while waiting for your food. You can conceivably get your own water, napkins and cutlery if you walk far enough along the counter towards the back of the restaurant. Back there, you may also notice a single-occupancy restroom and bins for bussing your own dishes. The Sun Juice arrived first, freshly blended, and was delicious. If that's what their juice is like, I look forward to exploring their smoothie offerings. My pasta arrived looking BEAUTIFUL on a bed of spinach, and smelled just as good. It tasted a teensy bit more of salt than I would've liked, but then I speared a sun dried tomato with my next bite and remembered that I'm not a food critic, just a happy customer. Although I'm not generally a fan of zoodles, they seemed to have the art of cooking them down pat: they didn't distract from the pesto at all. The bisque had an artful design of (coconut? cashew?) cream on top. My friend was delighted to note that it was a bit of spice to it: nothing challenging, but just enough for her to find comforting. Given the light and airy look of the inside and the rather rustic / flower-child look of the outside, she was not expecting that surprise. She was so impressed with the grilled cheese sandwich that she offered me a bite: we were both quite impressed with the "cheese" they used, as the item was listed as vegan on the menu. My friend kept whining that she's doomed, as they're close to where she lives *and* they deliver. Oh, yeah - poor her, indeed. Alas, alack, and so on.

There were a couple of people ahead of me in line but service was quick. Lots of savory and sweet pastries to choose from - the massive cinnamon roll caught my eye, and I couldn't resist not getting it, also got the twice baked almond croissant and a kouign amann. I ate the kouign amann soon as I got into my car - it was the perfect amount of sweetness and flakiness, albeit a bit small in size despite being around the same price point as the croissant and cinnamon roll. Unfortunately was not a big fan of the cinnamon roll. Though the roll itself was pillowy soft upon reheating it in the microwave a bit, it lacked the amount of cinnamon that you would expect, and the frosting on top tasted like cake frosting with it almond extract in it and was far too sweet. I had to scrape most of it off. Almond croissant was also just okay - filling was on the sweeter side and croissant itself just didn't taste very fresh.

It has the nice exterior crust but the interior was not eggy. It felt like it was a sliced baguette dipped in corn flakes and fried. It needed to soak for a while in an egg custardy bath for that soft creamy texture. 4) kids cheese burger. The kids enjoyed it and I can't complain! It comes with a drink as well. Even so, they remained kind and attentive. The menu has plenty of options. I ordered the Vintage French Toast covered in crispy cornflakes with two eggs and ham. My husband had the biscuits and gravy. They both tasted alright, though the portion sizes felt a bit small for the price. We also ordered a hot chocolate for our little one, but it tasted like a basic Swiss cocoa mix, definitely a pass. On a brighter note, their pancakes were huge and super fluffy.
