Kaptain Jimmy Menu
Eugene G.

We decided to go up to Kaptain Jimmy's in Agawam mass for dinner this evening. It's Friday night. It was warm and a beautiful evening and it was not a long drive up there so it was a good opportunity to try a new place. Jimmy's has an extensive menu of seafood, burgers, steak, salads, giant shakes and all manner of things they could please almost any palate. We started with a basket of bread that was reminiscent of anadama bread served with whipped butter that was unbelievably delicious. I ordered whole belly fried clams with fries for an appetizer so that I could try the fried clams. These clams were fried perfectly in crumbs and were sweet and very good. My wife had the classic Jimmy's burger with cheese and bacon and fries, and ordered one of their shakes so that we could each take a taste and see what both were like. The burger was cooked a beautiful medium rare, served with a smoked bacon that was fantastic. The shakes are gigantic. We ordered a mocha shake that came topped with a mountain of whipped cream. Sweet, thick and creamy if it was worth every bit of the eight dollars you pay to get one. I ordered a lobster roll, but not the one they serve on the menu. I'm absolutely a lobster roll snob because I'm from Maine where we invented lobster rolls. The Jimmy's lobster roll is served with melted cheese, lettuce, and tomato - not legal anywhere I am aware of. I asked for and was served a lobster roll of cold lobster, served on a grilled bun with mayo on the side - just as God intended. The bun that this lobster roll was served on was nothing short of spectacular. I would've taken a dozen of them home. It was reminiscent of a French baguette with just the right crunch on the outside and a soft center filled with beautiful lobster meat, and just a hint of mayonnaise. Right on point. Our server was excellent and received a 20% gratuity for her service. We will definitely come back because the food is very good and there is such a tremendous selection of different things to eat that we have to come back and try something else the next time. All in, $91 for two. The fried clams alone were $27.

So things have declined here a bit. We had flatbread pizza and prime rib tonight. First off the pizza was ok. The prime rib meal was a "C" grade in my opinion. The cut was a bit tough and the au jus didn't soften it up. The mashed potatoes tasted like dehydrated airplane potatoes. Very fake. What they do well here is fried food. Stick with that and your fine. Our server was awkward and made things actually a bit uncomfortable at the table. Granted it was a weeknight so I give them a little break. We didn't get dessert. We wanted to depart the establishment

Food and service were great, no complaints. I'm not big on seafood (my mother is) but there's a good selection to choose from.

Medium well done?

We have been here a number of times and my rating for those times would have probably been a 4 star. This time not so good. First, when the waitress (named on the check "M"?) approached us for drinks, someone in our group asked for separate checks and the waitress rudely said "well that doesn't tell me what drinks you want". Secondly, a request for a medium well done burger was rare and was only seen when half was placed in a container to bring. Our table area was on the dark side and I'll look closer next time. Perhaps next visit will be better, I hope.

Food was absolutely amazing. Service was great and did not have to wait for a table but we were there for an early dinner. Kids loved the shamrock and the Oreo shakes!

One question, How, How, How is my only question. I AGAIN, went to Kaptain Jimmy's and how can this place not be super packed. I truly LOVE this place. The food is absolutely delicious. They have great deals weekly. If you haven't tried this place you're missing out.

We did not have a reservation, so for 6 people, we expected a wait when walking in at 7:30 pm. We were greeted and seated in less than 2 min. The staff was extremely friendly. Joe, our server, was prompt and made great suggestions. We ordered the app Hot Mess, and it was exactly as advertised, a hot mess but absolutely delicious. Everyone at the table enjoyed it. We went on to try the BBQ tacos and the BBQ platter, both outstanding. The Grand daddy was a one-and-done cocktail for me as it was strong. I would highly recommend it if you like an old-fashioned. We have decided that it is well worth the 2 hr drive for this meal now, when we make a trip to Six Flags it must include a stop at Fletchers's

Not sure if that was the telling sign but for a rainy Saturday afternoon I would expect someone in here. Few people did show up after I ordered so that was good. Looked over the menu and none of the apps really stood out so went with what I came here for which was the brisket. Ordered that with a side of beans, brussels sprouts and a key lime pie to finish off the meal afterwards. Nothing I had screamed I need to come back soon. The pastrami did look good in one of the pictures here on Yelp, and a couple of gentlemen who showed up later order chicken sandwiches and I overheard them saying they were chicken sandwich connoisseurs and it was very good. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? I was happy about the service. Struck a nice conversation with the bartender about the music playlist and how pleasing it was to hear some tracks that really fly under the radar being played. I do want to give here another chance being close to home. Place is pricey for bbq and as I said was not overly impressed with the food. There is a place near Stowe, VT that has really set the bar for me of what really good brisket is. And there is BT's in Strubridge, MA. which too has good selection of bbq.

So you walk farther upward to the bar. Small dark. Limited seating. Cozy and quaint but somehow still awkward. Yelp shows pizza, Steak and other great food. However, I was informed they no longer do pizza. Okay. So, I ordered the steak with red wine. A few minutes later I was told they were out of steak. (6:30 on a Wed). Ok. Np again. The baked scrod sounded good and I flipped my red wine order to sauv blanc. A very good house salad immediately came out. Fresh and full of good lettuce. Not cheap iceberg as well as plum tomatoes and cucumber and red onion. Nice! But it went down from here. Tick tock. Tick tock. Time goes by. The barteneder spending time talking to her favorite guests seemed aggravated that I interrupted after 15 minutes and asked if my dinner was arriving anytime soon? Just as she went to check it finally came out. And was not worth the wait. A $6 piece of cod sitting on mashed potatoes and soggy spinach just saturated in butter. A fish soup almost. $25? Ah not. I was just about to try dessert and the guy next to me ordered another drink for he and his girlfriend. The bartender said no. "We have a three drink max rule." Rude. To the point. Ruined their experience right there and mine too since i already had a martini and a wine. So, I wasnt going to rish an espresso martini with dessert and add more cost to be cut off. Anyway, i decided to skip dessert and just go. I left wanting an underwhelmed.

Food: plating was perfect, presentation excellent and taste was very good as well. Cost: for the area I think it was good, about 30-40 per person and for the quality of food, is on point. Overall: I was impressed with the restaurant and food though a drawback for me was even though I can be considered a great family restaurant, seeing people in tank tops at the bar turned it more into a corner place with great food rather than the upscale restaurant I was expecting. I would go back for the food if in the area.

The ambiance was cozy and inviting, though our table was in the middle of the aisle which felt a bit cramped. Unfortunately, the service itself was inconsistent. We had to ask for bread three times. When we ordered two brownies and one coffee, we were brought one brownie and two coffees. At the end of the meal, we asked for both my meal and my son's meal to be wrapped to go. My son's plate was accidentally thrown away because other plates were stacked on top of it. When I asked about it, the server explained what happened but did not offer to remake it, remove it from the bill, or apologize, which was disappointing. That said, it was a busy Friday during Restaurant Week, so I would consider coming back and hope the service is smoother next time. While writing this review, I actually received a text from the restaurant letting me know we left our son's plate behind, which was thoughtful and appreciated. If Yelp allowed half stars, I would give 3.5.

Thank goodness for takeout boxes. My favorite plate was the QUESO DE CABRA CON MIEL (goat cheese with honey) served with crusty bread. We paired it with the CHORIZO LEÓN HERRADURA. It was just perfect together. Dessert was worth mentioning. The warm double chocolate brownie with ice cream is a definite yes please. So rich, so gooey, so worth the calories. Bocado is a tapas restaurant, but I found these small plates quite generous. Roll me home I'm done!
