Well, I'm disappointed in myself 100%. An almost missed experience... thank goodness we decided to head to the show early! We stopped in at Kanpai last night before the show for a quick drink. This lovely little sushi lounge is just an absolutel delight! The bar is appropriately size considering the venue next door. I unfortunately didn't make a reservation but they were kind enough to accommodate us on one of their lounging couches. Drinks were wonderful! Perfectly and appropriately strong and timely. Ethan at the bar was very kind and accommodating. While we were enjoying drinks, I eyed the nearby food. Just to try, I ordered a Spicy Tuna Roll which was FABULOUS! Admittedly, known to be picky about my Spicy Tuna Rolls, it was one of the best I've ever had! Do yourself a favor, stop in for dinner and drinks. It was absolutely worth it! read more

$215 for honestly the worst sushi I've had in San Francisco. Very disappointed. Would not be back.

I haven't eaten dinner here, but I have brought drinks/dessert up from the bar twice now. I had an excellent mocktail, another visit I had a well-crafted cocktail, and an excellent dessert. The ambiance is very nice, and the service is kind! I will say they were friendlier my first visit than my second. My second time here it took much longer for me to get service. I do think the restaurant needs to update their online menu. Both visits, I tried to plan ahead by looking online and when I asked about menu items I was interested in, the staff told me they had no idea what I was talking about. They hadn't even heard of the items before and asked me what menu I was looking at. When I told them it was theirs they thought it was bizarre as well, but a month later, the menu is still the same. There are multiple missing items such as the crème brûlée and a few dessert cocktails. I'd happily return whenever staying at the Hotel Nikko and hope to try some dinner food next visit. read more

Very good spicy tuna roll. Waiter accidentally gave us octopus fried balls, let us keep them for free. The octopus balls weren't bad, very creamy but I'm just not an octopus guy. Crab legs was a very small portion but very delicate and tasty. Craft cocktails were very good and interesting. Ambience is very nice and trendy. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. I loved the beautiful water and mocktail glasses. My servers were nice. That's the best thing I can say about this restaurant. I ordered some sushi rolls. The rice was super dry, super hard, super cold as if it was scooped from a few days old bowl of rice kept in the fridge. I sadly imagine the sushi chef doesn't know what sushi is or hasn't eaten sushi. Mr. Sushi chef, if you go to eat real sushi, I believe you can learn and improve what you make. read more

The ambiance at the Kanpai Lounge is elegant and inviting. Went there for a drink on a Friday. End up having a truffle flatbread for dinner and it was simply awesome. To top it off, they had a wonderful pianist playing live jazz music for a couple of hours. It was the best moment of my week. Will certainly return soon. read more

My first review was going to start out sounding something like I love love love this place....Yeah well that was before I was served. I've had a raspberry lemon drop in the past while at Crusteans. So I asked if she (she said her name was GG and she had a french accent) could make a raspberry lemon drop. She looked a little confused, but she's a certified bar tender right? So she gave me a drink of vodka and raspberry puree with two tart ass raspberry on top for decoration. The drink was tart and so was the damn raspberries, I couldn't finish it. I immediately sent it back and asked for a regular lemon drop. While sipping the nasty ass lemon drop I thought to myself, "I'm going to finish my drink and leave." Well, that was until I saw GG make a drink for another (Caucasian) lady. The woman asked for a Moscow Mule w/ginger beer. I watched GG make her drink. She added the regular amount measured with the standard silver measuring cup and she added more Vodka directly from the bottle. I thought to myself "Yasssss, that looks good and strong." So, I asked GG for the same exact drink. She said "Moscow Mule" and looked at the woman's drink, I said yes. Needless to say I didn't get the extra freehand shot the other lady got. So, instead of paying for both drinks I sent the nasty lemon drop back too! I was going to pay for my Moscow Mule (minus the extra shot lol) and say fuck it, I'll complain on yelp. Well even better GG sent the manager over. Long story short Ms. Dominique who's a new manager really didn't give a real fuck either. read more

Anyone that knows my dining partner & I, knows we are pork connoisseurs. If pork does not hit our table in a great way, I will discuss it openly. With that being said, we ordered the pork skewers & were sadly disappointed. When your menu says the pork is glazed, we expect a melt in our mouth, sugary piece of pig to excite our taste buds. Instead, we received a poorly plated & seasoned pig on a stick that was dry, not so tasty & glazeless. They were sent back. We move on to the chicken spring rolls. It's hard to mess up fried food but it was hard to swallow the price for 3 rolls @ $12. You can get the whole bag from the market for $3.99 & be happier. They were decent & their peanut sauce was great. We also ordered the chef's special Makimono(sushi). It was salmon rolls with spicy tuna on top. It was better than the pork, but wasn't spectacular. My dining companion commented , "For San Francisco, I expected a better menu for the price." We would agree. We do not believe any local would regularly hang out here when a well priced happy hour is steps away from them. The pricing seems to be geared toward hotel guests & tourists. We paid $60 for 2 appetizers & 2 cocktails. That would have been a great dinner somewhere else. We felt we were paying for the ambiance of the room, rather then the quality of food. read more

We stayed in the hotel and on our last night here after dinner nearby, I wasn't ready to go to bed and end my San Fran visit! I brought my book down to the empty Kanpai Lounge and sat near the window. I can't now remember my server's name, but he was gracious and friendly. He brought me a little trio of snacks that I didn't think I'd need or want since I had just finished dinner but of course ate them! I stayed for a little while and had 2 lychee martinis that were really delicious. It's too bad that when I walked in on a Saturday night there were only 2 other women sitting at the bar then they left and it was just me. I would definitely suggest this for someone staying in the hotel to get a swanky drink in an upscale and lush environment. I'd also say that someone working nearby should catch a drink with a friend after work here too! read more

Beautiful, swanky and chic lounge located in the Hotel Nikko. We were staying across the street at the Hilton and found Kanpai on Yelp. We were a little confused at first because all we saw was the Feinstein's sign, but we eventually found our way there. The décor is very nice -- think plush black and red arm chairs, white leather tufted benches and fuzzy rugs. Very clean and classic, but also very modern. I had the Chipotle Cabaret, which can be described in one word -- FANTASTIC! If you like a little kick in your drink, you will love this! I could drink those all night. The servers were attentive, without being bothersome. It's a bit pricey, but what isn't in that part of town? All in all, it was a great experience, and I would definitely go back the next time I'm in San Francisco. read more

Not too many food options but just the right amount for the vibe. **Pro-tip: Sake bombs with co-workers always make things more interesting! This place is really laid back, super cool. I think it's brand new. It used to be the Rrazz room and now it's a really awesome looking, really pink lounge with great cocktails and a chill atmosphere. I'm really interested in seeing what they do with the performance space, there's a lot of potential there. For now though, they've got a great selection of spirits and it seems like it could be a sweet place to take a date or meet up with people. read more

Took a out of town friend to Kanpai lounge to wind down the night after dinner. What a wonderful place. The decor is beautiful and the ambiance is classy with nice music. The wait staff were very attentive; we actually had TWO tending to us!! LOL!! Even when we asked to order desert, the waiter graciously told us the kitchen had closed but accommodated our request for chocolate for our teas anyway! The drinks are a bit pricey but I am from NY so I am used to those prices, but they were delicious. I will definitely visit this establishment again!! read more
