I called to make an appointment for a consultation but got a consultation and coloring in one day. the staff here really are attentive to their clients. You can also message on Facebook, they are very good at responding there too. I asked for Maylin and she did a really good job with listening to what I wanted for the coloring of my hair. It was the first time that I was coloring my hair professionally so I was very nervous and wasn't sure the process of it / etiquette and stuff (I.e. they offer you tea too and I didn't know that was a thing), but she made me feel at ease. The price is definitely on the more expensive side if you're looking for full color session (bleach, lighten, toner) so definitely beware of that since I would say it goes above $200 really quickly. But they give you discount if you're a student or if your bring cash (one or the other), which was really nice. Again, Maylin did a great job. There were times when my foils (for my highlight) kept falling off, at least three or four times separately and I had trouble trying to get staff to attend to it since it was a busy time. But thankfully, the stylists that were around whenever they fell off came around and called over a second person to help, since Maylin was busy during the time with other clients. Turned out that my hair was really thin so the person who was helping do the foils (she did half and Maylin did the other half) didn't put enough on to make it "stick" so it kept falling off. Other than that, I felt at ease and the color turned out really nicely and the session took about 3 hrs, which was actually pretty quick. The stylists all speak English Cantonese and/or Chinese so it's also a great place for anyone who might be better in one language or another when trying to describe the color or cut etc that they want. At the end, Maylin curled my hair and also was super kind in offering to take more photos for me under professional lighting. Great first experience for me. Highly recommend! read more

Have been coming here for a while to do color and cuts. Unfortunately this rating reflects how I've been feeling about my last visit. I've asked for a certain look (pics) that would require more complex color than I've done in the past, which has been all over color. My hair was purple almost all over before I asked for it to be fixed (not at all what I asked for). I showed pictures again and there was additional color added, which felt like an afterthought. I paid for both even though the extended time and color was a mistake that was getting fixed. I never even got my haircut but was charged for it in the end. Finally, most color came out a week in! Everyone is professional and very attentive! I was taken care of by my hair stylist Grace . She is such a cool and down to earth person! She did a wonderful job cutting my hair! My friend recommended Kami Salon to me and after reading great reviews about Ken, I knew that I had to give this salon a chance. The interior of the salon is nice and modern. I was thrilled to see they had lockers in the back of the salon and I got to hold onto the key during my entire visit. I've been to other salons before where I felt nervous about my bag, but at Kami, I felt at ease. Ken is super meticulous when cutting hair. He spent a very long time perfecting my cut and blow dry. I had gone a few times, overall has been mediocre haircuts where it wasn't amazing nor horrible. However, my last experience was negative enough where I would not go back again. First issue was my stylist was late to the appointment which I am generally okay with since it happens time to time. What I was not okay with was the stylist felt rushed (dropping equipment or items left and right) and felt like she rushed through my appointment. I ended up having a haircut (15 min length) that was faster than how long I waited there (25 min). Second issue is stylist messed up my haircut either due to feeling rushed or just lack of observation. I showed a photo of a haircut I had in the past and they completed whiffed on the length of it. Just ask a question of clarification, that's what all my past stylists have done in prior locations. They asked no questions and just assumed what to do. Third issue with this location is they have an absurd up hike on price if you pay with card. So kind of sus how card and cash differ in price. I don't mind paying the card price, but they non stop insist on cash and it gets annoying when they keep mentioning their "cash discount" and to bring cash next time. read more

I came back this Saturday to dye my hair red/brown and I couldn't be happier!! Red is a tricky color to get just right, and my stylist Grace made sure I was 100% happy with the color. It was my first time bleaching my hair and she walked me through the process completely. I felt very comfortable and was even offered an extra mask, water, and snacks. After the dyeing process, they applied a treatment on my hair that made it silky smooth even after intensive bleaching. The salon was very COVID-safe too. I went in for a balayage with Grace last week. I was very happy with the results until I washed it a few days later and saw that the color was a little stripey and not blended like a balayage. I called and got an appointment the next day. Grace took a look at my hair again and told me that what I had was a balayage and if I wanted a more blended look then I should've asked for an ombré. I have gotten my hair colored before and I know what a balayage should look like. What I had looked more like highlights than a balayage in my opinion. I could tell she was becoming frustrated with me at which point I asked for a partial refund if she didn't want to fix my hair. She then told me she'd fix it and I agreed. Grace still maintained her professionalism despite our disagreement which I appreciated. I was offered drinks and chocolate and she made sure I was ok throughout the service. When she was done coloring my hair, she blow dried my hair but didn't style it so that I could see what it looked like naturally. One tip I have is to ask to see your hair in natural light because I feel like the salon lights hide a lot of imperfections in the hair. (See pictures). I could not tell in the salon how orange my hair was and how there was a harsh line between my natural hair and the bleached hair. I seriously broke down crying when I got home and saw how bad my hair looked in natural light. I paid well over $300 for this and now I'll probably have to pay more to get it fixed at another salon. I had high hopes for getting my hair done here after seeing the other reviews but I am extremely disappointed. I'll be getting my hair done elsewhere from now on. read more
