I've been coming here for many years and am always pleased with the cut and color. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. I highly recommend Salon Lamia. read more

I've been seeing Elda for the past 8 years. I have never trusted anyone more than her with my hair. It's always been a comfortable atmosphere. I plan on sticking with her for as long as possible! read more

The stylist was very nice and attentive but the result was disappointing. I asked for more layers but I got a shaggy haircut. It might have been a miscommunication but you always should cut less before you destroy the looks completely. I had a feeling that the saloon did well with younger customers. read more

I needed a last minute hair cut and went through yelp to get a haircut and some highlights. Elda was a pleasure to work with, she listened to what I wanted, to keep my hair long despite of my overly textured hair. She explained to me that she will have to cut it shorter to even my hair out, almost apologizing that my hair will be shorter because of the overly textured end. The long and short of it is she did amazing highlights, that my husband even noticed it and complimented my hair. You can't add a tip if you pay by credit card. You either have to tip cash or by check. read more

Elda is simply the best. I moved away from Evanston a few years ago and have not been able to find anyone since (including at extremely expensive salons) who does my hair as well as she did. I miss the comfort of knowing I will walk out with amazing hair and getting to hear about her and her daughter. I will add that I have thick hair that is not the easiest to cut/color but she always handled it with ease. Go see her! read more

I had such a great experience here. Lamia is so nice and really cares about getting you what you want. I was nervous about cutting my hair short but she made me so calm! Check out my before and after - I am so happy with my color and cut (6 inches!). Definitely recommend - so much better than other salons in Evanston. read more

Salon Lamia - Hair Salons Near Me - Evanston, Illinois

I called around 2:15 on a Tuesday and asked if they could fit an appointment in that same afternoon. They answered quickly, friendly and accommodated the request. I could come by at 3! I had simply said I had long hair (it's to the small of my back) and needed a cut. She quoted me $60. When I got there, there were 3 staff members all doing hair and all turned to the door to say hello. I loved the acknowledgment! Elda was my stylist and finished her client in a timely fashion to make our appointment. We had a consultation over some magazine photos I had earmarked while waiting. (The shop had PLENTY of periodicals.) I had told her I wanted something more drastic from what I normally do, but when she saw the length and natural wave to my hair, she talked me into keeping it safe and going more layered GRADUALLY. Since I wasn't entirely convinced what I wanted anyway, it seemed like a good plan. First impressions: The store was cool, clean and smelled pleasant. The décor was modern and minimal; the color scheme neutral, yet soothing. During the consultation, I shared with her that I needed a color too, but I could just stop at CVS and pick up color if she didn't have time. She MADE the time. She cut me first, then applied the color. It sat on my hair longer than I would've liked (an hour-plus), but I had several inches of gray outgrowth and the ends were quite washed out from previous store bought dyes. I'm a brunette, so my hair was a flat, mousy salt-and-pepper mix on the crown and reddish-brown on the ends. She had taken another client while the color sat on my hair. I was getting antsy, but I was also very appreciative that she made both cut and color happen. Even after the cut, there was a LOT of hair to apply the color. The end product was an even, shiny, rich brown that I absolutely loved. The cut: I had wanted one more layer, but she was adamant not to put it in. She thought it wouldn't look good and that I'd be unhappy later. I deferred to her advice, but after a day, I think I want the layer. I had mentioned bangs too at the time. Those she said I could come in for anytime. She never charges her clients for bangs. Nice. Overall, I was very happy with the experience. read more

A LivingSocial deal for a $25 Brazilian brought me to this salon located in my college town. I'm a regular at the European Wax Center Clybourn but wanted to try somewhere walking distance to home. A lady named Joanne waxed me and did a solid, satisfactory job that I would give 4 stars, but their organization and customer service deserve no more than 2. Before coming in, I had called about their availability for a Friday appointment, which did not end up working out for me. I called again the next day for a Saturday appointment and was immediately booked. After the receptionist put me down on the schedule, she called again and said that they couldn't honor my Living Social deal because I had a no-call, no-show on Friday. What?! I did not make an appointment on Friday, and when I explained that, the lady turned defensive and sour - "uhhh NO....you're in the book, and you lost her a client, so you need to pay the full price for the Brazilian service." I talked her down and told her there was a misunderstanding, to which she rudely responded, "Well, just make sure you show up today." I firmly talked her down and they ended up honoring the deal, just as they should have, but the receptionist made me uncomfortable enough to dread going in that day. I'm a nice girl and I hate to upset people, so I gave my waxer a fat $20 tip, but I'm not coming back. read more

My husband and I have been going to Salon Lamia for years, I see Lamia and he sees Elda, Jwan has done my eyebrows (amazing threading!) and Janet has started spray tanning there as well (Thank goodness! She does a great job). I look forward to the couple of hours i get to spend with these ladies every few weeks. The price is more than reasonable, salon is clean and warm and the staff is a more than talented group. I know when I go in that I will get the best color and cut...always exactly what I want. Lamia takes her time and works with you to ensure that you are getting the right look for you. Over the years she has gotten to know and what my lifestyle entails so when asking for advice she gives it openly and honestly. My husband has been seeing Elda for about as many years and had been more than pleased with the level of service and attention he gets. His hair always looks great, Elda also takes her time and her attention to detail is unparalleled. As a man, I think he was hesitant at first to go to a "salon" but has become very comfortable there and would not change. I highly recommend Salon Lamia to anyone looking for a new stylist or new to town. You will not be disappointed. Both Lamia and Elda are willing to sit and talk with you about what you are looking for and help you achieve it . read more

Edda is fantastic! She really listens and offers good suggestions. I love, love my hair cut and will be coming back even though I live in Chicago. Prices are reasonable. read more

As a guy who keeps his hair a little longer, I've had only great haircuts from here. They are great about fitting you in and are really friendly - plus you have to love the head massage during the shampoo. Elda has been my primary 'stylist' and she is wonderful; my hair looks great coming out of the salon and staying looking good as it grows. Fully recommend this place for guys looking for a bit more than just a barber. read more

I highly recommend Salon Lamia. I have been going there for a year and a half now, and I won't go anywhere else. Ask for Edda to cut and/or color your hair. She takes great care of me, and she has good ideas. I am the kind of person who wants a hair stylist to teach me how to style my hair and advise me what to do. Edda does that well. I like the energy in the salon. It is very positive, warm and welcoming. read more

My eyebrows never looked better! For a first experience, Salon Lamia exceeded my expectations. My esthetician, Naheed, was so kind and helpful for someone who never had her eyebrows threaded. I decided to try it after reading the reviews, and now I can see why Salon Lamia has such high ratings! The salon was clean and friendly, all the staff had such positive energy. I had my eyebrows and upper lip threaded, and I can say for a fact that I will be going back! The student discount for NU was a plus! Thank you Naheed, I can't wait to go back!! read more

Jenny is simply the best. I'm an executive guy who has been her client for several years and I've always had an excellent experience. She's highly skilled, creative and passionate about giving her clients the very best outcome. You won't be disappointed! read more

My favorite stylist has recently brought me here. Jenifer Kahn is THE BEST. I used to get her services at Steven Papa George up the street, she decided to move to Salon Lamia. Of course, I followed her here. Not only is she great for women's hair, she also has been skillfully cutting my husband's hair for years. She helped me through my bald / chemotherapy stages. I'm not sure (aside from a wig) what I would have done without her. I love Jeni. Also, Lamia is the owner; sweet as can be!! read more

I had my first visit to Salon Lamia today. Elda gave me the most beautiful cut and color that I think I have ever had. I have thick, coarse, wavy hair that was damaged from bad color jobs and I walked out with gorgeous, soft, shiny hair with a great cut and beautiful rich color. Elda worked magic and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Thank you so much! I will definitely be back! read more

This was the worst hair experience I have ever had. The salon charged me 300 dollars to move up tape in extensions that were falling out. After ripping at my hair for 2 hours, they deciding that they didn't have time to finish the job and I had to come in the next day. After having to spend the rest of the day with my hair covered in glue, they put the extensions back in the next day without clarifying my hair. The extensions all fell out within 4 days. The salon refused to give me a refund. I also have damage in my hair due to the horrible re application of the extensions. read more

There's nothing I can say more then I can't wait for Lamia to come back from her vacation. I've been taking my kids there for over 2 years now and the one time she wasn't here I took them somewhere else and everything that could go wrong went wrong. come back SOON!! read more

When you've had your hair colored and processed as much as I have, you know when someone has talent. That's what Lamia has, skills, talent and magic! I went in with brassy highlights, poorly done "balayage" at a previous salon and showed Lamia a picture of what I wanted my hair to look like and she didn't even hesitate. She explained everything she was going to do and she delivered. I haven't had my hair look this good in years. No one was ever able to achieve the look I had wanted but she did! With minimal damage may I add because she also offers Olaplex! Seriously she's my hair saver and the salon itself is so cute and everyone is just so friendly. read more

I love Jenny. She always cuts and colors my hair beautifully and I never fail to get compliments. She is pleasant and professional and fun. Great stylist. I highly recommend her. read more

After reading the reviews on Yelp, I decided to give Salon Lamia a call. Most salon's give a first time customer a break in prices as a way to entice new clients to come it. NOT Salon Lamia. Their rate for a women's cut is $60. A little higher then most other salon's I've called. read more

I'm a guy, and I love getting my hair cut by Elda at Salon Lamia. I've been going there for over 3 years, and this is what I love the most: 1) they always work to get me an appointment within 2 days of calling; 2) Elda is always ready for me when I come in; 3) all the ladies are nice and friendly - good vibe; 4) I get a great haircut everytime. Just a nice place to go. Worth the money 100%. Ask for Elda! She's gorgeous, too... read more

Salon Lamia is awesome! lamia has been cutting my hair for years, and i've never once considered going anywhere else. her team is also excellent - elde rocks with men's styles, and margaret is also wicked good with women's cuts. they also do color, highlights, touchups, waxing, and mani/pedi ... you will not be disappointed. read more

I was satisfied with my haircut but I felt that it was overpriced for just a haircut. I didn't feel especially welcomed.

Wish they would have told me they only make appointments in Fridays and Saturdays. That way I would have avoided wasting my money on the groupon deal. The groupon deal being the ONLY reason I would visit this salon. Anyone know how I get my money back?? read more

Made the appointment at the suggestion of a friend. She highly recommended Edda who was unavailable so I booked with Elda. I needed my last horrible haircut from a low-cost national chain salon "fixed" while it continued to grow out. Elda was very receptive to the description of how I wanted it cut and offered suggestions as to how to best manage this awkward "in-between" stage. She did an amazing job! I often find stylists can be "scissor happy" but Elda actually left my hair slightly longer than I anticipated. She was friendly without being noisy or annoying. She also advised me NOT to ever color my hair due to the natural highlights I already have. She nor the other stylists pestered me about buying products on my way out. Price was extremely reasonable. $60 + tip for wash, cut, blow dry. Salon Lamia is a refreshing contrast to the other trendy salons in downtown Evanston. I have always hated getting my hair cut in general and especially after my last bad experience. Elda has alleviated my fears of my hair looking worse after getting it cut than before. read more

I started coming in to Salon Lamia this year when I moved to Evanston for school. I get my hair dyed red (not an easy task) and my eyebrows threaded. I come and see Jwan for both, and Lamia has helped too. All of the ladies here are very sweet and I always know that I am in good hands when I visit. They spend so much time making sure my hair is exactly how I want it! I definitely recommend Salon Lamia! read more

I love, love this place! I walked in with no appointment, asked for waxing services and Janet (I believe that was her name) immediately set me up with the person even though her shift didn't start for another 15 minutes. She also offered me bottled water even though waxing is a fairly quick procedure. It was the least painful waxing I have had to date, a sure sign of an excellent technician. I will so be back here for hair styling and any other services they do! Everyone that I had contact with there went out of their way to be friendly. read more

I've been getting my hair cut and colored here since it opened. The cuts are fantastic! Lamia is great! Listens to what you want and has creative input. She always finds the right style to match both my mood and my hair. Decor is cute - check out the tin ceiling. read more

Salon Lamia has been doing a wonderful job on my hair for 5 years, they are always quick to suggest something that may help with my baby fine, straight-as-hell hair, which I greatly appreciate. Likewise, if I have an idea that I want to try and they think it may not be a good idea, they let me know - the end result: great looking hair with perfect color every time. The haircuts are great and my color is wonderful, I get a lot of compliments and want to pass the credit on to Lamia - she is the BEST! read more

I have had my hair cut by Lamia several times. She knows how to cut hair, is fashionable and fun to look at, and she remembers things about me so we have some chit chat. The ambiance is lovely and the place is clean. However, I sometimes feel like I didn't quite get what I asked for. I have thick hair feel that despite requests for a certain type of styling Lamia kind of does it her preferred way, and I end up a little frustrated after I get home. I also agree with the other poster that the staff (including Lamia) do a lot of chit chatting in another language which comes off as a little rude in front of customers. read more

I moved here from out of state last summer and left behind my hair stylist who'd been cutting and coloring my hair for 12 years! I spent a long time looking and asking around until I finally found Lamia. Amen! I walked in with out of condition hair that needed a good color and cut. And I left feeling like myself again. Can't say enough good things about her. The salon is friendly, welcoming and very professional. I look forward to each visit. Thank you so much! read more

I've been going for years and now I bring my kids too. Aura is the best and everyone else is very accommodating and friendly.

Last week, I ran into a friend I hadn't seen in a year. The first thing she said (well, after "hello") was, "Hey! You're cutting your hair differently. Looks great!" Here's who's been cutting my hair: Edda. And since she started cutting it, i get compliments from friends, family, people at the gym and total strangers. Put your hair in her hands. I always go to see Elda and she always does a phenomenal job cutting my hair. I have bangs and sometimes she does a side bang and she always can get it back to the way that it was! I have been seeing Jenny for almost 10 years and I had to follow her on her journey when she made the switch to Salon Lamia!! To be truthful, I haven't been the most loyal since I live in the South Loop and Evanston is quite far for me. So I was hopping around to a few different stylists over the years. 2 weeks ago I had a really bad haircut from Salon Buzz.. this has scared me straight from seeing someone new ever again. I reached out to Jenny and she even came in on her day off to see me! She completely corrected my haircut and gave me exactly what I wanted without taking off more length. Love her to the moon and back!! I will be loyal and make the drive. Totally worth it. read more
