I bought an offer through my work for a massage, facial, mani/pedi, and cut. I was thrilled, thinking it was the best deal of the century. I had bought a similar package from work for a different salon a few years back and continued to visit that salon for a good five years afterwards. In this case, it should have been a once and done, but instead I gave it a second chance. The massage was adequate, yet seemed a little less luxurious and a little more dark closet in terms of atmosphere. The facial was very nice, but the gratuity required at $18 per service seemed rather inflated for the service rendered. I figured it was an off day and decided to give them one more shot. This time, I went for the haircut, but wish very much that I hadn't taken my chances. I had an older lady cutting my hair. I told her I wanted a lob. I even showed her a picture. What I ended up with was a mom bob. Multiple friends commented that I should have gone back to have it fixed, but considering that I didn't really trust anyone there to "fix" what had already been done, I cut my losses, paid my required $24 tip and vowed to never return - not even for the mani/pedi that was essentially already bought and paid for. Maybe they have an older following and being on trend isn't important because the space itself is also rather outdated and uninviting. read more

I can't believe that I have not used this place sooner. Appointments are very easy to make and they call the day before to remind and confirm of upcoming service. I had a Brazilian wax done here and the whole appointment took 20 minutes. When I came in they asked if I wanted anything to drink and they gave me a tour of the salon to show me around. The person who did my wax used soft wax instead of the hard wax and was very good and quick with it. I was impressed how quickly she was done. She also talked to me about the neighborhood and salon services and products so I was distracted and didn't focus too much on the waxing. Regular price for Brazilian is $60 and first time clients get 20%. read more

Quite simply the worst pedicure I have ever had. It started off poorly and ended terribly. Sad selection of colors, no massaging chair, about a minute of massage, nails cut way too short and unevenly, and the paint job itself was terrible - I'm not sure how many coats she used and I do not believe she even used a topcoat, but I could be wrong. The polish was slopped over almost every toe. After a day, the polish is already coming off my baby toe. Several times during the process I had to ask the woman to do something, such as: please remove all of the previous polish (she said he was not done yet - she never got it all off) and please don't cut so low (she said she had to even the toes, although the one she clipped to the quick is the shortest). I've posted photos, so you can see how low she went and how uneven they are (try to look past my sausage toes). After she was done, I went to the owner and said it was the worst pedicure I ever received; there was no point in trying to get a quality job at that point in time. Sadly, the owner was a bit indignant and said that I have to go back and tell her what I want. She said I need to complain during so that it's done the way I want. Personally, I don't think you should have to tell a nail tech not to get polish all over your toes. She did try to get the polish off after the owner made me "complain" to her, but it didn't really help. Overall, it was a big fat waste of $25. I could have done a better job myself, and that's saying a lot. Go to a real nail salon. I did get a wax and facial and the esthetician was good. read more

My son insists on traveling from Mt Prospect to Evanston for his hair cuts. Jarmen is very knowledgeable about trends and hair care. Salon Antou of Evanston, Saved the day and the Decade, for me again! It was renew Passport/photo time, so i got a quick shot done and suddenly looked 20 yrs older. I ran to Salon Antou asking for help. Jarmin recalled she had cut my hair 10 yrs before for passport photo and described the cut. I pulled out the old passport and grinned ear to ear for her memory! She promised they would fix me and set Demaris to the task of immediate transformation. In what seemed like a blink of an eye, no tears here, I became like the 10 yrs younger women in the passport photo, with a tad more wisdom, and updated. I'm not usually one to write reviews but Jarmin has been coloring and cutting my hair for years. She recently gave me an awesome shag cut that make my limp locks bounce. I'm a person who spends zero time styling my hair so if Jarmin can make my hair look good she's a miracle worker. I've waited a few days to post but after two washes and still no styling, it's still fantastic. As for Covid precautions, was just 4 people in the salon including myself and jarmin. Masks were worn the whole time. My color with her is always perfect. But was so fun to change up the hairstyle she did an amazing job. I can not recommend her more highly. 11 out of 10. read more

I give it a one star because there isn't any NO STARS. First of all this was my second time at Salon Lotus and what I thought would be an amazing salon experience turned into a traumatic emotional day for me. The past November I went for the first time to salon lotus for a cut, and highlights which I paid $89 after the 20% discount. It was my first time getting highlights and they weren't that bad but truthfully they weren't that great either. But I didn't complain considering the stylist was very nice to me. The worst was about to come! Because I waited four months to re dye my hair (which is naturally brown) it had already turned orangey brown. So I asked the stylist Sunny how much would it cost to do me a ash brown color. And she insulted my hair adding that it would take several processes because my hair color was so "messed up" and the tones were just "off" as if you had to have perfect hair color to re dye it. And she said that the process would cost up to $260 which I considered to be too pricey. So I asked if instead of dying my whole head if she could do an ombré type of style. And she suggested re dying my roots and just boosting my highlights with a toner. And would only cost me $160. I knew that was a little pricey but I was okay with it considering the picture of the ombré I wanted was pretty cute! So I said go all for it! The vibe was weird. She kept tanking on my hair, she said I had way to much hair and to not "waste product" she was going to give me my haircut first. She dyed my entire head brown and that took 30min. She rinsed me off, blow dried it and started bleaching my highlights. Which I thought was unusual because she said she was only going to tone my hair and I didn't expect my entire hair to turn super dark brown. But I said "she's the stylist she knows what she's doing". But did she? Next she took me to a back room because she said she didn't want me in the front area of the salon while my hair was under tin foil which kinda annoyed me. As if I was too scary to look at? Then that took forever because she said my hair was being difficult. 45min later she rinsed my hair off and she turns me to the mirror and begins blow drying and I fell into shock! My hair looked the exact same color as I had when I first walked in! Immediately my excitement and my anxiousness to see my "new" look vanished. And she noticed, she asked if there was anything she could do. I replied, "all I wanted as I told you at the beginning was to get rid of the orange/ yellow look of my hair and it looks the same!". She suggested that she could use the toner to fade out the orange but that because my hair was too warm colored that it wouldn't go away. I became anxious and a bit upset. Everything she did made it seem as if it was all my fault and that I was wasting her time. Lastly after washing my hair three times, and blow drying my hair and making me look like a sloppy poodle my hair looked nothing like the photograph and looked worse than I had walked in that morning. Upset and super annoyed for spending 5 hours there ! Oh yeah because my appointment was from 11:30 and it went on until 5pm! Anyway. I decided to not fuss and just go get it fixed elsewhere. I went to the register and I asked the price and she said $260!!! Shocked I asked why so much of sunny had said it was only $160-$180 tops! And sunny was so over it she ignored when the cashier asked about me and the price she had given me. As if she just wanted me to leave! Unwilling but respectfully I walked out paying the $260 but alerted them that I was going to call to speak to the manager to fix this. I walked out of there in tears, for the next few blocks that i walked to my car i held my heart on my hand thinking I had just lots $260 dollars! An entire weeks paycheck for NOTHING my hair looked absolutely the same color but now more damaged from the bleach! Honestly I cried myself to a nap that day from how pissed off and vulnerable I felt and was. But worse part of all was that the next day I spent 4 hours of my morning trying to explain to the MANAGER that what was done to my hair was not worth the $260 and that I was told that I was only going to pay $160-$180! After making me hold and telling me that her clients at her salon were more important than the customer experience I had I was fed up and told her that I was done being put on hold that I needed my money but and only offered me $70 back from those $260! I still would like my money back I don't think it's fair! Please don't go to this place it's horrible! Not worth it! I was also helped by their "senior stylist". So who knows how their least experienced stylist will leave you looking. read more

The vibe I got when I walked into the salon was weird - almost like I was wasting their time. George just seemed distant and barely consulted with me. We spent almost the entire treatment silent. Also, the salon was almost silent with a few other customers as well. George just seemed "done" with me. He walked away and I was almost unable to give him a tip. I am so impressed by Salon Lotus. I recently moved out of Wicker Park to Rogers Park, and I missed my waxer at Reina dearly. I have been scouting livingsocial and groupon for brazilian deals in my new neighborhood, so I can say that I am used to being treated in a certain manner (not exactly positive) when attempting to make an appt. to redeem these coupons. Not so here...I felt just as important as any customer. The receptionist was fantastic. Immediately offered me tea or water. My aesthician (sp?) was one of the best I have ever had to date. Her name is Vicki. She is super friendly and didn't treat me like her 10th Brazilian of the day. She made sure to do exactly what I wanted, and even helped get out some icky ingrowns. As far as pain- well, of course it's going to hurt, but not horribly so. I have had MUCH more painful experiences. Clean sticks everytime...no residue wax left behind. Super professional. I've always had trust issues when it came to my stylists, but Agnes is absolutely amazing. She does whatever it takes to make the client comfortable and I trust her judgment completely. She chooses the best colors that fit exactly what I'm looking for during the appointment. Agnes always makes sure I leave with a great style! I'm so in love with the salon and Agnes that even after I moved an hour from Evanston, I still make the trip anytime I need my hair done. Jarmin is the lady to see for all things THREADING. Forget waxing and never thread with someone who uses their teeth! I have been going to Jarmin since 1996 or 7 to have my eyebrows, upper lip and even sides threaded. It is so much more precise than waxing (which I must resort to when out of town for extended periods of time) and it lasts so much longer. Her salon is also an Aveda Concept Salon so I'm able to purchase all the products I love for hair and make all in one shot. My mom got me a customer appreciation package and it was great - haircut, highlights (my first time ever), mani and pedi, and facial and massage - but I got to chunk it out vs. an all day affair. My last was the facial and massage this past Saturday with Nahla. I thought since both treatments would be only 30 min each, that it would fee rushed, but it didn't. I don't know if it's her caring, healing attitude, or her warm hands, but I could have fallen asleep in the room as she worked on me. I have been getting Brazilians for over 5 years, and have been going to the same aesthetician for 4 years back where I live. $75 for 3 Brazilians is a great price, especially for the service received. A. This salon was able to fit me in the same day I called. B. Vicky, the main aesthetician, was pleasant, detail-oriented, and cleanly. She provided tips on how to better take care of my skin, not trying to push aka sell salon products. In addition, there was minimal to no discomfort or pain during my waxing, which says a lot for a Brazilian! I will be going back to this salon if I need another waxing while in Chicago. So when I moved to the Evanston area, I was looking for a new place and came across Salon Lotus. The first haircut you get there is super inexpensive! I was pleasantly surprised by the cost for a single process color and cut. I recently went there for my second visit and while a bit more expensive (no discount this time), it still was pretty reasonable pricing. Plus, Karin is amazing! I've only ever gone to Salon Lotus for one person--Vicki is the best esthetician who has ever worked with me. She is friendly, cheerful, and very fast and thorough. She makes a Brazilian wax as pleasant as such a service can possibly be. She also does a great job with my eyebrows--I started with waxing every 4-5 weeks, and I have now added in a tint that makes my brows a little more defined without makeup. Vicki suggested I try it and I was skeptical until I saw the results and LOVED it!
