Having been to three- no, 4 "stylists" over the past three years, and having to grow my hair out over and over again, I have been forming an opinion that the term "stylist" is no more accurate (or in fact, revealing) than "sanitation engineer" for garbageman, or "Chef" for "Short-order, no-talent hack." So I happened upon the 'Salon-in-transition' of Danielle Mars by chance, and she changed my opinion of "stylist" straightaway. She provided service that was nothing short of professional, precisely what I have wanted for three years, met all of my styling/haircut goals, and did it all while handling other events, which were stressful enough by themselves without having to service clients at the same time. Result? I look and feel like a(n aging) Rock Star! ; ) She is attentive to concerns, answered all my questions with a cheerful demeanor, and with a personality which is well-balanced, friendly, always courteous and even effervescent! I got the look I've been waiting for without any fuss. Did I mention extremely competitive pricing? I think what I paid was more than fair. My hair has a new bff! P.S. Danielle may self-describe as something like "organized chaos", but don't let that fool you: she really knows what she is doing, and does it exceptionally well. I only hope she continues to provide hair cut/styling services for many years to come. She has a full service beauty salon that offers, makeup (both airbrush and traditional), hairstyling, up dos, cuts, and colors. The woman can do it all! The search for the perfect salon is complete. Granted, I could find anything on Google these days. My husband needed a hair cut. Very badly. He had been hiding his hair underneath a Mets hat. I encouraged this until he saw a stylist. Just kidding, sort of. Originally I wanted him to go to a salon in Boystown, but his hair (and my patience) couldn't wait. We went to Celebrity Salon in hopes of scoring a walk-in appointment. Unfortunately they were booked solid for the entire day, but the owner, Danielle, managed to pencil Curtis in for late in the evening. There was a slight wait when we returned. With all the various reading material and comfortable, yet swanky chairs we didn't mind it. The salon and its decor is so uniquely rock 'n' roll, so there's much to look at. Moe, Curtis's stylist, called him up for a quick consultation and shampoo. Moe is quick, friendly, and very skilled. My jaw dropped when she showed me the final results. The cut was so modern, sexy, yet effortless! For $25, it was the best hair cut he's had since Salon Blu in DC. I couldn't stop giggling at my husband during our short walk home. Men tend to have three options for getting hair cuts. One is the classic neighborhood barber shop. Friendly, talkative, manly and just fine if all you need is a quick trim or a fresh buzz. The second alternative is SuperCuts or a similar place. Cheap, corporate, and often inconsistent. The third is a high end salon. Most men would opt out of paying $40+ for a hair cut. With the economy these days, it wouldn't be very practical to get an expensive hair cut every two to three weeks, even if it does come with a complimentary scalp massage and product to keep your hair looking fabulous. There's a reason why Celebrity Salon has a large male clientele, these girls know how to cut and style any man's hair with the quality of a high end salon, but the friendly feel of the neighborhood barber shop. So please, say no to SuperCuts. Whether or not you're a stingy Northwestern student or established fashionista, call and book an appointment at Celebrity Salon. Mind you, it will be difficult to resist headbanging to "Ballroom Blitz" and other rock favorites playing overhead! read more

I planned an elopement in Chicago on super short notice and Danielle was a lifesaver! She came to my hotel in Evanston, (saving me time and logistics) and did my hair and make up earlier than any salon was willing to do. She responded quickly when I sent messages and questions. My hair was so screwed up when a stylist put a super dark permanent brown in my hair last autumn. I've never been an avid salon-goer because of the cost so when my roots started showing, and showing, and showing I tried to go lighter with bottle dye because it was getting close to summer. Well, imagine my surprise when only my roots turned light and the rest of my hair stayed dark!! I looked like I had a blond toupee over top a dark wig. It was horrendous. So to get me by before I could find a new place I bottle dyed it again just back to dark - not as dark as the permanent. Well, I called Danielle because of her reviews and described what torment my hair had undergone over the last several months. She talked me through what she'd probably do and the cost for it. She was very accommodating for the time and day (thank goodness b/c I had a weekend of parties to go to!). I spent about 1.5-2 hours there and she was able to correct it. She made the permanent look like a natural part of my hair color but managed to lighten it up nicely. And for a very reasonable price! And not only is the girl skilled but she was actually fun to chit chat with. I normally don't talk much with my stylist. Just do my hair and let me go. But I enjoyed chatting with her about food, her job, my job, our pets, etc and will definitely not dread the next time I go to see her. thank you Danielle! read more

Worst hair coloring experience ever. I booked an appointment for color and highlights. I said I had my hair colored dark brown and wanted it lighter with highlights. I brought pictures in with me, and the woman said okay. I said nothing in the red family of dyes. Then the owner, Danielle (Michelle), kept coming over to tell me the woman who was coloring my hair, Casi, knew what she was doing. She assured me of this multiple times (though by constantly trying to reassure me, I was then a bit frightened). Long story short, my hair was colored bright orange. No joke. Clown orange. They said it was just the lighting (they had dimmed the lights because it was evening). I drove home and turned on the lights, and boom - orange hair. I called the next day and asked if they used red dye on my hair. Danielle/Michelle never denied it. She said this happens to only one in a thousand people, and she would fix it by adding highlights for $90. She wanted me to pay for her error, and she said she was giving me a deal. She was defensive and mean, and she lectured me that I had been a difficult customer. She said that I couldn't get my hair the color I wanted because of all the prior dye on it. I didn't trust these people at all with my hair, and luckily made an appointment at another salon and they fixed it. I filed a case with the Better Business Bureau, which Celebrity Salon is not a part of. This was the most horrible experience I ever had at a salon, and I have been coloring my hair for decades. These people are unprofessional and rude. Don't go. read more

Although I didn't know this when I first started using Yelp, business owners are not supposed to offer perks for good reviews. The reason why so many reviews are filtered for this salon is because the business owner does offer perks in exchange for Yelp reviews. I was a pretty steadfast customer of this salon for quite some time, back when Celebrity employed Casi. Unfortunately, Casi changed salons and so I moved with her (she's at Techniques Salon, if you want a great haircut!). While my experience at Celebrity was great when I went there, the turnover is high and that can be a frustrating experience. All in all, I'd recommend going to Casi at Techniques if you want a great cut, but I'm a little biased since she's my hair guru. read more

I have to admit that I was extremely skeptical about going to Celebrity Salon. I walk past it everyday when I take our dog for a walk. The place has dark curtains with huge statues of the Blues Brothers, but my wife insisted on me going there because she followed Kate from Red 7 and she kept saying that I would really like it. Once again, the wife was right . I ended up having one of the best hair cut experiences in a long time. It was like going to one of those over priced Aveda salons (como se dice "Sine Qua Non") and getting the same quality service without the crazy price to go along with it. The hair stylists are very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Kate did a great job on my hair. I was very happy with the results. She also cut my 4 year old daughters hair and did a great job on my 7 year old boys hair (he got the Bieber Bowl. He can wear his hair that way as long as he doesn't start singing "Baby"). The atmosphere is great it is feels like you stepped onto the set of LA Ink, without all the crazy drama. Looks like I found a new spot to get my hair cut and do not have to make the drive out to Glenview (Mark does a great job at A Go-Go Salon, but just too far). Talk about customer service! So the appointment started out late....which was the only downside! Upside: They were super apologetic and offered me gingerbread tea (yum). Also, great selection of magazines, so my wait wasn't too bad. I wish I knew the name of the person that cut my hair.... she is brunette and youngish. Anyways, she did an awesome job! I showed her a picture of a haircut I was thinking of, and she did a great job of layering and really listening to me. She gave me advice on how to upkeep my hair and showed me how to style it as well. My hair looked so flat before, but the new do is a A+ for me :). Awesome awesome awesome! I had my first appointment with Kate today- super friendly, personable and incredibly skilled. I've been buzzing my hair for a few years now, so I was a little nervous to step outside my comfort zone... but it was well worth it. Kate did a fantastic job with my hair, and I'm quite pleased!! I can't wait to rock my pompadour! Everyone at the salon was really friendly and obviously took a lot of pride in their career. The salon atmosphere was welcoming, comfortable, smelled great, very clean, and is full of interesting/retro things to look at. The price for the cut was really reasonable and definitely worth it. Kate even threw in a free conditioner sample to try! I'll definitely be making an appointment at CS with Kate as soon as my hair grows out! Next time, I'll remember to bring cash for a tip (had to stop at Whole Foods for some cash, no biggie). They only accept credit cards for the actual cost of the cut, not for tip. read more

I've been coming to Danielle since moving to Chicago in 2009. Yes, she does talk a lot about products and other services because she is proud of the offerings. So if you find it impossible to say "no", you might be uncomfortable here. Or, you could just learn how to say no. But Danielle does such a great job cutting and styling! She takes everything I say to heart and really, really works to figure out what I am looking for in each cut. She talks me through what she is doing as she is styling so that I know how to do it myself when I get home. I always have a great time when I come in, and the prices are very reasonable. If you need a trim, a cut or a special occasion style (these are the only types of services I've had here)- Danielle does a fantastic job. She also stays on trend and I am always excited to get her advice on how to look edgy but still maintain a professional hairstyle for work. I have a lot of very thick hair, but the texture is just a subtle wave. So, I am not really subject to frizz, but I do take very special care in washing and conditioning it in case that provides any additional help. read more

The owner uses as hard a sell as a car salesman. She did okay on trims and roots then sold me on her ability to straighten and smooth frizzy hair. What a big mistake! A large percentage of my hair broke off down the part and around the hairline after the process! She said she knew what she was doing and got compliments from other salons, so why did she have to stop several times and read the product directions?? I will never go there again as it is going to take a few years for all that breakage to grow back out! I cannot recommend this salon, not even to someone I don't like. read more

I've been coming to Danielle for 5 years, even flew in for my haircut when I lived out of state! My hair is long and wavy and she always makes it look gorgeous, even when I come in inches of split ends. Fantastic with color, she uses hair color that is not as harsh and hair products based on essential oils, so it's extra great if you're trying to use more natural products. You guys know what I'm talking about. I have always gotten my hair cut from your typical HairCut places that are super, even my post college years. I grew tired of these places not understanding the sort of different styles I was going for. I wanted someone to cut my hair who understood different mens styles. Celebrity Salon was the answer. Well here is important info for any guys (and women) reading this. 1) Yes, they do cut mens hair, and they cut it very well. During my time in Danielle's chair, i see the same amount of men/woman coming in for a cut or making an appointment 2) Men and Woman of all ages go to this place. 20 somethings through 50 somethings I have seen. 3) Danielle and Moe are skilled where you can mention an actor/actress hairstyle, or bring in a photo and give you that same/similar cut. 4) They give you real advice on styles, and trends they are seeing. If all you know is you want a new cut, you Celebrity Salon is capable of helping you figure out what you are looking for. I think Celebrity Salon would be a welcome new change to men and woman who have been going to the typical mall SuperCut type places their entire life, or are tired of Mario's place overcharging them month after month (get it?!). Celebrity Salon is capable of giving your hair as much style as you want. I know if I want to try something totally different with my hair, Celebrity Salon could make it happen. read more

Loved Danielle! I was a new mom of a 20-week old baby girl and needed to get ready for her Baptism. I was dreading trying to get ready and coordinate everything the day of the Baptism. I booked my first appointment at this shop on a whim but boy am I glad that I did. I have very thick, very short hair that a lot of people have trouble getting right so I was nervous but Cassie did an amazing job. Then another time I tried to trim my own bangs and wound up doing a terrible chop job on myself. Cassie fixed me right up, as usual, and told me that they offer free clean ups between hair cuts so I never have to blindly chop my bangs again! They always offer me coffee or water whenever I have gone, the owner Danielle is always super friendly and helpful and they use great products as well. They atmosphere is cool and funky, the people are friendly and they do an amazing job- what else could you ask for? I love this place. read more

Danielle has been cutting and highlighting my hair forever. I followed her through 2 salons until she opened this one. She listens to what I want and does it, with flair and fun; when I tell her to use her judgment, that judgment is solid. She tunes in to what I like or am experimenting with and remembers it. I was a little disappointed when I called on Thursday and they couldn't take me as a walk in but they had an opening Friday afternoon and it was well worth the wait. I'd read a lot of reviews on yelp about Kate but decided not to ask for her and see if the whole salon was good or not. Cassie was fantastic. I set down not really knowing what I wanted besides a change. I came out with a cute and fresh look that is sure to help me feel great for my first day of a new job on Sunday. Not only did I get a great cut but a great feeling. After the cut I decided the brows needed touched up as well and Kate waved them up for me. Being someone with sensitive skin waving is normally a overly painful ordeal for me but I was surprised at how little pain was involved compared to other wavings I've had. Normally my brows are red and throbbing for an hour at least. This time I walked out the door with almost no pain at all. Well worth the time and money. Give it a try, you'll love it. read more

First, no one gave me any incentive to write this. I have been going here for 3 years and have only good things to say. Danielle is the owner and my stylist and I highly recommend her. She takes care of me and my 14 year-old son - he has dubbed her "one cool chick." Going to this salon is like having a cousin in the business. You have complete trust that you'll get a great service for a great price. Danielle is down to earth, talented, and does work for many real celebrities. I know I'm in good hands and got excellent color correction my first time in the door, in addition to cute and creative cuts. This place is like having someone cut your hair in their gracious living room. Great music, good conversation, there's no separate hair washer to tip, no snooty attitudes. You'll never walk in and say, "Can you touch up my roots?" and hear, "Sure, that will be $85." It's not for everyone - if you want to be fawned over in exchange for the privilege of paying $100+ for a haircut, go elsewhere. She's super chill and fun but most importantly she was able to correct a waxing mishap i had earlier in the week. By the time she was done my brows looked perfectly symmetrical. I've been going to Danielle for two years now and she is fantastic. Originally I went to her to fix an ugly color mistake made at a pricey chain salon, and I've never looked back. She is an expert at color, and suggests great hair styles for all occasions. I'm one of those people who always calls at the last minute before a big event and Danielle has never failed to find time for me. The eclectic style of the salon is truly relaxing, and the new environmentally friendly product line (Eufora) that Danielle uses is fabulous. Love this salon and the stylists! I go to Cassi and love her. I am always able to get in when I need to and she is so good at coloring! I trust her with my hair, which is hard to come by...a stylist you can trust. The salon is inviting and the stylists are always so welcoming. I use to live 20 minutes from the salon, which was so convenient. I now live in Elmhurst and STILL drive the 45 minutes to get my hair cut and colored here. Danielle did my hair and makeup for my October 2015 wedding. She was so flexible and came to the wedding venue directly. She works fast but does an excellent job. Originally it was going to be just me (the bride) getting hair and makeup done, but that morning the mother of the groom, and two bridesmaids also decided to get their hair done. Danielle was able to pull off getting everyone's hair and my makeup done just in time for us all to walk down the aisle. My makeup was incredibly natural and lasted the entire day without getting smudgy (even after lots of sweaty dancing). My hair was gorgeous too but didn't quite hold up as well with my wild dancing. Danielle has been cutting my hair for the past 4 years and has been coloring my hair for the past year. I have always left her salon extremely happy with my hair cuts (3 years ago when I decided to cut 6+ inches off, she gave me a very stylish bob that nicely framed my face). Last year I decided to try purple highlights, but I was slightly nervous because the last time I got highlights my hair became very dry and looked/felt dry. Thanks to Danielle I not only loved the color, but my hair looked and felt healthy a month and more after I saw her. She made sure I knew exactly how to maintain the color and hair health, and I was able to maintain the color for 2+ months. Because of this experience I got purple highlights again this past February (again, the color lasted almost 3 months), and today I got blonde highlights. I really liked the purple, but I absolutely love the blonde! I was extremely nervous about blonde highlights since I have almost jet black hair, but Danielle gave me a color that goes so well with my skin tone and natural hair color. An amazing stylist is a very hard find, and even after moving, the commute is worth it because Danielle is really the best! read more
