Eden Agora and the team is lovely but I'm disappointed with my Dazzle Dry manicure. Not many salons offer Dazzle Dry. It's fast drying and should be able to last 7-10 days--if you apply it correctly. I had a nice massage here although honestly I fell asleep for most of it. I was an overtired mom of a 6 month old that would not so it didn't take much to relax me! My ultimate frustration though is with their gift card policy. My husband gifted me a $200 voucher. I had to cancel my appointments because of Covid and whatnot. Unfortunately the voucher expires after a year and the spa would not honor it. No exceptions. So lesson learned is don't buy gift cards unless you can guarantee you'll use it right away. Or find a business that is more accommodating and does not blame their payment system for their self imposed policies. read more

Agora Spa had been my place to go until yesterday, I went to have a massage with Linda as a treat for my birthday. A couple of hours after the message I got such a big bruise on my butt and pain, I couldn't sleep all night then I went to the place next morning to see what was wrong and how to take care of it. To my surprise all staff 4-5 employees were very rude treating me as trash, screaming in front of customers claiming that was my fault because they assumed that I had an underlying health condition and I was wasting their time. Just to let you know that my doctor asked me to get a massage for my sciatic nerve and go swimming after I have done MRI, Ulrasound, and complete blood test plus many other tests. When I texted him the photo of the bruise he said that this massage was very harsh and who ever did it was unprofessional, it would take many weeks to get your ruptured tissues to heal. People working at this place are angels when you go and pay money to get a service then become Monsters when they make a mistake. read more

Maybe the worst mani/pedi I have ever had. Went in for a mani/pedi the day before I got married, with my mom. Her nails turned out great and still looked nice 5 days later. Mine on the other hand.... I removed the nail polish when I got home because it wasn't on consistently (blotchy) and I had to refile my nails because they were misshapen and jagged/rough on the edges. I mentioned while still there the issue with the nail polish and she just put an extra coat of clear top coat on top. Not sure how that wouls fix anything. My pedicure polish was done better, but she did virtually no work on my feet. She massaged them, took of my old polish, and put on the new. No clipping or filing if any kind happened. I was not impressed and won't be going back, even though this place is literally 5 min. from my home. read more

I went in today for a facial, I don't treat myself very often but since my husband gave me a gift card, it thought I'd use it. The facial was amazing, Nancy was my aesthetician, she was very attentive, walked me through everything that she was going to do and how to take care of my skin going forward. I was sold!! I was going to commit to once a month with her and I couldn't wait to tell my friends how amazing she was!! Then it was time to check out, I presented my fifty dollar gift card and was informed that they no longer take gift cards since the business was sold to a new owner 4 months ago. The new owner proceeded to argue with me and was not going to do anything to make this right. It's a shame, I really want local businesses to succeed. She missed out on a loyal customer as well as the business of all my friends( who I will tell of my experience and I'm sure they will tell others about my experience) all for the sake of a $59 facial that I had to pay for out of pocket. read more

I had a good experience with face waxing here, but it didn't seem like the staff was well trained in body waxing. I had scheduled my appointment with one aesthetician (Anna), but when I arrived she said she'd be more comfortable if another person did my service (presumably because she didn't know how to body wax). Nancy was the person who did my service. She was very kind and knowledgeable about face waxing, she even used some facial tools to calm some of the redness and tried to up sell me to come in for a monthly facial like another reviewer posted. However, the French bikini wax she did looks uneven, and was awkwardly done in comparison to her face waxing. I will maybe come back for other beauty services since it's close to my house and Nancy does seem great at facials, but will continue all waxing at the benefit on Sherman where the staff seems more experienced with body waxing and prices are comparable. read more

I thought a french bikini was a landing strip in the front and waxing the rear. NO all that was performed was a bikini wax that went in a little on the sides. PLUS she took 35 minutes! ALSO I let the technician know that I had sensitive skin yet she proceeds to use 3-4 bottles of these concoctions on my bikini area and not tell me their purposes. ALSO things got a little "handsy". I'm sorry but the middle of my vaginal is not apart of the waxing procedure so why are you fingers going across that area repeatedly. This place is really worth every penny. The first time I stopped in to ask questions I thought they were being rude to me, but I was mistaken. There are people here who aren't from a hotel/southern type of background, so, you're not going to get coddled 'verbally', conversation when you are booking, etc, MIGHT be sparse, NOT because these are rude woman, quite the contrary, these are exceptionally kind woman who care about you and doing a good service. It's because there are cultural differences, and they tend to be sparse in their language, or quieter than a lot of people are used to. They are concentrating on what they're doing, most of the time. They really do care that you're there, and they do want to help you get what you need. So don't expect a cheerleader to greet you and take your bags when you walk in the door! Do expect wonderful, professional service and kind treatment! This is by far the best service, treatment, and mani-pedi I've received in all of Chicagoland, and I've tried out many locations. My husband works nearby so for me, it's very convenient. I think I would continue to come here even if he relocated back to the city. The touch-ups are a blessing! The prices are actually reasonable for the amazing work they do. The color choices are just perfect. Not once have I ever felt embarrased after leaving my worn out cuticles for way too long. I work with my hands a lot and it shows. They give attentive massages with good products that never irritate my skin, which is something I generally experience at every salon or spa I go to. Got my eyebrows and nails done. My appointment began only a few minutes late and the technician was extremely friendly and she did a great job in my both my eyebrows and nails. The nail polish may have been a bit old as it's a bit streaky but it looks good from a far. They offered a 10% off deal for new clients so without tip the eyebrows and manicure only cold $30! So sad to have to write this review... My husband and I have been loyal clients of Agora spa for over three years. We would book couples massages about once every couple months, Swedish and/or deep tissue. Today we had massages booked at 2:30. One masseuse came out almost right away, and asked who wanted to go first, and I did. Little did I know that my husband ended up sitting there for 20 minutes, before his masseuse came out. The girl at the desk didn't seem to care that almost half his time was up. When he asked if he could get a prorated massage for the remaining time, he was told he'd have to pay full price. The part that perplexes me is why his masseuse was 20 minutes late. They told him the lady in the previous massage had to go to the bathroom. So, if I'm ever late for my massage (which I have been), I don't get that time tacked onto the end. I lose it, but I still pay full price. I was the one who was late. Likewise, if I have to go to the bathroom during my massage, I lose that time and don't get it back. We are left wondering then, why this lady had an extra 20 minutes? Why did her bowel movement take precedent over our appointment? Wouldn't the masseuse end the massage at the scheduled time, regardless of how long this lady had to poop? And... Why did they make this our problem? I was livid when I got out of my massage... Our time was wasted. I asked for some kind of discount (they so politely cancelled my husband's appointment, at no charge). No apologies. No admitting any wrong. The girl at the desk had the gall to tell my husband that he "should've said something!" Um, he did, and they pretty much ignored him. The ignorance and incompetence didn't stop there. I asked the girl to call the manager or owner or whom ever. She was shocked that I wanted her to actually... Call. That didn't go anywhere, so I asked if I could talk to them. Dude gets on the phone, I introduce myself and say hello. I get a caveman like grunt of a "hi" in a response. I had to ask him to tell me his name three times. I asked very politely. Finally Brian listens to what I had to say, and his response was, "I gotta take care of my employees." Didn't seem concerned his employees fucked up royally. He never even actually apologized! So sad to have to take our business elsewhere, the masseuses work hard and do a really good job. I did manage to get a 10% discount, but only Brian told me he'd "have to talk to (his) wife." read more

Agora Spa is a great little neighborhood spa. It is calm and incredibly clean and for a little bit more, you can be confident that their tools and supplies have all been completely sanitized -- which is my biggest worry with getting a mani or pedi at one of the cheaper places around town. I'm a regular here and get a pedicure done every 3 weeks with Irena. She is always really nice and upbeat and gives me a pedicure that is not only gorgeous but doesn't chip (not even from dancing, the beach, flip flops) until my next visit. The reason I gave three stars is because I have tried some of the other services such as the massage and felt that although it was decent, for the price they were really lacking the whole "spa" experience. The therapist wasn't very personable and they basically get you in and out, which is a little disappointing for such an expensive service. So, -- two thumbs up for a CLEAN, highly attentive and meticulous mani/pedi experience but would probably go elsewhere for a massage or more spa-like experience. So I am split on my experience about Agora. On one hand I was referred by a friend who loves it and it right around the corner from my house. It is also very nice and clean/relaxing. On the other I came in and was 5 minutes early for my appointment (did not know it, though) and the receptionnist just kind of coldly / rudely showed me the clock and told me "you have 5 more minutes". No "please take a seat someone will be right with you..." or such.Then I waited 15 minutes. The lady that took care of my waxing (eyebrow/lip) was very nice and service was good. However, I am not greatly happy with result. I like my eyebrow to look "naturally" perfect and clean, meaning I want the stylsit to work with the way my hair goes and the arch and not cut a premade shape that makes it obvious i just got my eyebrows done. I told her but she did not get it. On top of that I feel like my eyes are totally bruised. I can't touch my lids or eybrow because I am in very mcuh pain, It is super sensitive and I never felt like this after a wax. Lip wax looks best that I ever had though. and it was FAST. Result: wanted to like it but dont think I will be back. or only for emergency lip waxing Edit: I am ading a star cause Ihave been back since a few times. I am recurrent customer for waxing. The massages I've had here where pretty good and their masseuses work hard, but my wife and I could no longer go here after all this disorganization. When I complained to the manager they accused me of stealing because I wasn't charged for the service and then defended the obviously ridiculous result. I can walk in feeling the stresses of life, and after time with her, I leave feeling like I can conquer the world. Back to the facial. I had the 1 hour classic facial. The lighting in the room was soft and the music was soothing. I was comfortable from beginning to end. Irina explained each stage of the facial and made sure I was relaxed and enjoying it. I get massages at Agora, my mother gets her nails done here. I will never get a massage anywhere else unless someone gives me a gift certificate (that includes the tip) to another salon. Then I would go back to Agora and feel guilty about cheating on Barbara. This is not the "cucumber water, fluffy terrycloth robe, and overpriced sales pitch for products at the end of the overpriced massage," place. Agora Spa is impecably clean, the staff is professional, and all their services are more than reasonably priced. The massage therapists I have seen are attentive to my individual needs. On a rare occasion I have had to wait a few minutes, but usually I am shown right to the massage room. I was thrilled when Agora opened up. It is pleasant, peaceful and very clean. As an added bonus, it is also just up the street from where I live. After going to Nail Bar in downtown Evanston, it was so nice to have a spa that didn't feel like an assembly line. I have mani/pedis at Agora frequently and am always very pleased. As with any spa, you will probably find some technicians better than others, and I do have my favorites. The owner is often on site and has even accommodated me on a walk-in basis once or twice. I just had one of the best massages in my life... a 90 minute Swedish by a therapist named Izabella. She massaged even my ears and scalp... a great mini-reflexology interlude was also included. Hot towels and fragrant oils, pleasant music, and several naps later I am so relaxed that I am surprised I made it home. The facility isn't fancy, but it's very clean and pleasantly decorated. The staff could be a bit more knowledgeable about Pevonia products but their services are above average when compared to high end (Spa at the Four Seasons, Bliss Spa) and bargain basement nail salons that dot the city. Facials are effective and relaxing. The technicians are skilled and professional (from the 3 I have tried). Manicures and pedicures are expertly done. I have had a better mani/pedi here than I had at the Four Seasons Spa in Chicago. read more
