After 7 years, I haven't even thought about doing my hair anywhere else. Jeannie and Kevin are a prized couple and they work well together. Jeannie knows exactly what I want and I frequently go through changes like long or short but I really like her accidently showing me bangs and I haven't worn bangs in years and the look was adorable. It makes me look younger even though the strands of gray are starting to come out. lol. The hair is simply cut well each and every time so that it is easy for me to manage, whether I want curls and she has made my thin fine super straight hair look nice without a lot of care to put into it to give it volume. I literally ended up at this place following the reviews on Yelp. It's been quiet a while I had a hair cut and my hair totally out grew the style I had earlier. I am bad a making appointments before hand. I found this place had some good reviews and i drove almost 10 miles to check it out. On a first look, this is nice little salon (I believe family owned). It's clean and looks well maintained. I called them prior asking if they walk ins and they said they can fit me in. I walked in, while they were finishing up on some other customers. I didn't have to wait much. Jeannie was the one who was attending me. I told her what I am looking for. She assured me she'l do the best she can and she did. I wasn't looking for a great styling but just a trim and some shape to blend all my hair in. Jeannie was very nice, she listens to the needs of the customer and She is concerned too. Unlike many other stylists she gets into the conversation which will make you feel comfortable. The only start less on this is for the price, which according to me is little bit on a higher end. I ended up paying around $40 for a normal haircut(no shampoo, no blow dry). If it weren't for the price I would definitely go back. read more

I work right off Dempster and needed a haircut in a bad way. I moved to Skokie in June and needed to find a new stylist. My friends wouldn't recommend a place. I jumped on Yelp and found Image Salon. I called to make an appointment and got in same day. When I walked in, Jeannie asked what product I was using. She told me why I shouldn't use that product and what products to use for different looks. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and told her I just want something easy and quick. She washed, cut and dried my hair in about 10 minutes. She handed me a product to use and told me to play around with my hair. She told me how to use the product properly, why she cut my hair a certain way in places and how to style my hair to cover up some flat spots on my head. I've been going there for years, but wanted to write this review to let everyone know what they're doing during the COVID-19 pandemic: everything. When you arrive for your appointed time, someone will meet you in the parking lot to take your temperature and then will come get you from your car when they're ready. They disinfect the chairs and the stations, and ask you to keep your mask on during the hair cut. When they need to cut around your ears, they'll ask you to hold your mask over your nose and mouth, too. They are following all the guidelines and more. I came here near closing time on a week night, but was still able to be taken as a walk-in. There were several people ahead of me, but I didn't mind the wait - they had plently of magazines for me to look through. Kevin and Jeannie own the shop and have been at this location for about 8 years. Jeannie gave be a great cut for a great price. She gave plently of tips and advice for my type of hair: thin and wavy for my round face. I appreciate it. This salon is a small, family owned business that is very client focused. There were a few other customers there when I was getting highlights, and they were repeat customers, and you can sense the personalized treatment each person gets. Jeannie did a great job with my highlights and was able to lift my color from my natural dark brown to blonde. She was friendly and professional as well. The salon has plenty of parking in the front, wifi and a park in the back (for kids who accompany their parent to the salon), and a grocery across the street. Kevin and Jeannie LISTEN and are skilled at what they do. They give advice and tell you what they are capable of but will give your hair's ownership back to you. I moved out to Saint Charles and tried to find someone closer but, despite paying almost double, finally gave up after a receiving mediocre cuts. I make the 1+ hour trip to Skokie, as does my 22-year old daughter, to leave with a hair cut that I will be happy with for a few months. I used to go to Hair Cuttery or one of those chain stores in Skokie and there I met Kevin, who was the most in-demand barber in the place. For me, I didn't really care that much, I just wanted in and out quick. Kevin and his wife Jeannie opened their own place down the street, on Dempster near Crawford. I won't go anywhere else. Now I have Jeannie cut my hair because she's just as good as he is. Why do I think this is the best place to go? 1. They are very good at what they do. They could easily be in the fancy expensive salon business, but they work with the people and offer a range of services. 2. They are really nice people. They communicate with you and they care about their customers. 3. They care about their community. Kevin has volunteered in the Jewish community to cut hair and they live in the area where their salon is located. 4. They aren't the chain store. I made an appointment for highlights and lowlights. I was able to get in the next day. Upon arrival I was greeted, offered water and was made sure I was comfortable. I was taken right at my appointment time. (How annoying is that when you rush to get to your appointment on time only to find out that the stylist is running 30 minutes or more late?) The whole process took an hour and a half and I was very pleased with the results. Kevin and Jeannie are very personable and aim to please. Their shop is clean and bright. I had been jumping around from place to place since I moved from DC. As an Asian American, there are only a couple individuals in Chicago that I could think of who could give better than a half-way decent fade. The only problem is, if I know that the person is good at giving a good fade, so does every other Asian man who is looking for the same thing. FML. So, when a buddy of mine put me on to a guy who runs his shop in Skokie and does a great job with Asian hair, I felt it necessary to make the trip out from my apartment downtown to give him a try. In short, he didn't disappoint. He and his wife have done a fantastic job with keeping their heads down and putting out quality haircuts for all of their patrons. They are always extremely friendly and try their best to schedule anyone that wants a haircut, but didn't make an appointment. She showed me how to style my hair, from blow-dry techniques that build body to proper use of the products that control my particular issues (particularly fine, flyaway, flat hair). She also spent time going over my almost-finished style and trimmed every single strand that she thought needed a little snip (I have a head full of fine, stick-straight hair and cowlicks galore). True precision cut! I usually don't get lucky and find the right salon on the first try when I relocate to a new region, but I will trust my hair to Jeannie as long as I live in the Chicago area. I had been seeing Jeannie to get my hair cut for years and was excited when I heard she was opening a salon with her husband Kevin. Since their grand opening, I've stopped by about every two weeks for my regular haircut. My hair isn't complicated, but I have recommended Jeannie to a few female friends. They've only had positive comments and continue to see her. That includes my outspoken sister who makes a trip from the west loop whenever she feels like changing her hair style or color. That's right, sis! I just called you outspoken! Don't be fooled by their web site (it's still under construction). The salon is clean with contemporary decor and has a TV that's usually tuned to the game of the day or Spongebob Squarepants for the kiddies. Prices are reasonable and the service is great. For a cheap, basic haircut, this place does the job. I paid only $25 with tip for a woman's haircut!! And as a girl with puffy and thick Asian hair, I'm really wary about going to the generic hair salons in fear of them giving me an even bigger fro. However, Jeannie did a pretty decent job of cutting my hair short without it looking too puffy. I also dread making awkward small talk with hairstylist but Jeannie made me feel comfortable. Both Kevin and Jeannie seem to be pretty sweet. I watched Kevin cut a little boy's hair (it looked like it was his first time, as he looked petrified). But Kevin made it quick and painless and I liked that he checked in with the kid frequently to see if he was doing okay. No tears from the kid, so I'm giving props to Kevin. Finally came back for a trim. My hair is thick and when it grows long I start to get headaches. Jeannie was able to see me the day I called. Told Jeannie to do whatever she felt like as long as she kept it long and thinned out the heavy hair. By recommendation of my brother, I started seeing Jeanie when I moved closer to the shop almost 5 years ago. I've never been one for intimidating, snooty salons, so Jeanie was right up my alley. Her salon is warm and welcoming. It's like "Cheers" where everybody knows my name. But let's get to the root of the matter - the hair. I'm the type who rarely gets a trim. I'm a creature of change when it comes to my hair and like to try new styles. I've had long hair, short hair, purple hair, bleached hair. And Jeanie does it all so well. He has also cut my son's hair since he was so young that he had to be coaxed into it, hold my hand throughout, etc; Kevin was infinitely patient and understanding and my son, now 17, still won't go anywhere else. He is good with all kinds of hair. Recently my grown daughter, who has curly, kinky, out of control hair, had the first hair cut she has ever liked by Kevin. Got my haircut with the owner. She is very skilled and listens to your needs. She did a great job on my hair. I keep my hair very long so it's hard to tell when I get a haircut. But with her I was able to get a lot of style in my hair without making them short. Not many stylist are able to do that for me. They usually can't help the temptation of chopping my hair off. Also, she shampoos the hair very well. I know, it's weird to look for nice shampoo but I do anyway. Usually, I also have a problem with how most stylist shampoo my hair because I would have to go home and shampoo them my self. My stylist at image salon understood that very well. There are two reasons I didn't leave five stars. One, she could have done a little better on my blow dry but it's possible I went in too late and she probably was ready to home, but she was nice enough to pick her straightener and fix the parts that looked frizzy after blow drying. Second, she was bit too expressive about how she doesn't like a certain type of customers and how she doesn't like offering deals to customers. read more

Who are the people in the pic? I don't know if they're the owners or the man and woman who were working there w. their kids sweeping up are the owners. I needed a touch up of color on my roots which the woman and I discussed in detail before. However, she took it upon herself so redo my entire head. I had to ask her to wipe the color off my head so it wouldnt stain. She said it would be fine but that she'd do it. (after she finished sweeping the floor) After I got a shampoo but no conditioner (never had that before) I got 1/2 a dry job, no round brush work w/ it and left with damp hair. They were very nice people tho and the color itself turned out well. Its worth the inexpensive price in comparison to other salons for color. read more
