The music playing was from someone's cellphone, I think the surround sound needs to be updated or rethought. The tv was playing, but some real cop show that might not be good for little eyes. I had both my girls come and we wanted to do a wash clip and hair dry and flat iron, but they said they couldn't do styling because they didn't have enough people. They washed the girls hair and like... partially dried it but not all the way. 4 men walked in and were waiting. I guess that's why they didn't finish the hair drying. Next time do that. read more

Noticing a big decline in the last few months. I have been getting a simple fade at this place for the past 5-6 years. Today I went for the same and the lady (don't know her name - long flowy hair - brunette) was extremely rough with how she handled my hair. Kept pulling my hair with the trimmer - maybe she was going too fast, maybe the trimmer was not sharp - but it hurt. She did a horrible job with the fade and kept mumbling under her breath. I asked her to fix the fade and she suggested I should go to a barber next time! If you don't know how to cut hair using a trimmer maybe say that before you start? Horrible! read more

I checked the wait time a few times through the website a couple of hours in advance and noticed that the wait times varied from 0-19 minutes. So I signed in online 20 minutes before even though it was showing a "0 minute" wait since I was dropping off my son at the train station before driving there. Only one other customer was there when I arrived and since there were two stylists, Georgina was able to take me immediately. She was friendly and did not seem to mind when I explained that before cutting my hip-length long hair, I wanted her to band and cut 13" ponytails so that I could send it to a hair donation center. She told me that her daughter had also grown her hair long to donate. After banding and cutting off two long ponytails, she proceeded to do a careful job of cutting my hair to shoulder length as I requested. My hair is very straight, but also fairly thick, so in the past I have gotten uneven cuts when the stylist tried to just comb it out and cut the ends. Georgina took the time to pin up sections of my hair so that she cut only a small "layer" at a time, which is best even for a blunt, non-layered cut. I came in with a side part, but she also checked that the hair of both sides at the front was of the same length when combed together, so that the sides would not be uneven if I changed the location where my hair was parted. This is another detail that less skilled stylists have done poorly in the past. The cost of $20 was very reasonable, and I was relieved that I wasn't charged an extra fee for "long hair" as some salons do. So I made sure to tip generously. read more

I've been here before for my son's cut and never had such a bad experience. We came in, checked in, and there was 2 people ahead of him. Two. There's two people cutting hair so it should have been like 10 minutes, right? I look at the screen and see a bunch of names ahead of my son's and I ask about it. I was told everyone that check in online goes ahead of walk-ins. Even people that checked-in online after the people at the salon that ALREADY checked in. What? Why? So I could be sitting here all day waiting if people keep checking in online? Then I ran next door to get the food we order 40 mins ago! Our family has been going to this Great Clips for years. I have three daughters and we have been participating in the hair donation program that is listed on Great Clips website. Wigs for Kids, it is listed under Great Clips gives back. My husband took my daughter to get a hair cut and send in her hair donation. She was told they no longer participate in the program, and then preceded to charge her full price for her haircut. Luckily she had money on her to pay for the haircut. She asked if they had any coupon offers, and she was told no. Also, she told them she wanted twelve inches cut off, which would have left her hair to her shoulders, instead they cut it just below her ears, much shorter than she intended to get it cut. Over all it was a very bad experience. Last time we will be going to this salon. read more

I got my hair cut here about a month ago. I showed the woman who cut my hair an exact photo of what I wanted which was a typical slick back cut, nothing fancy. She was very nice and talkative during the cut. Towards the end she said I think your hair is too poofy on the side I'm going to shave it higher and I said you're the barber I trust you... big mistake. She shaved a 4 all the way up to the top of my head. Afterward she said it'll look better after it grows out. Next time tell them you want a low fade. What!? You're the one who insisted on doing this. My hair is a 4 on one side that transitions to 3 inches then to 6 inches on top. She did not blend it at all and there is a sharp transition from the hair on top to the hair on the side. It has been a month and the haircut does not look any better.This is absolutely unacceptable. I could have done a better job myself. I asked for a slick back and she gave me a terrible comb over. Great clips used to cost $10 a haircut and was a good deal. Now it's $20 and when you add tip it's just as expensive as a real barber who actually knows how to cut hair. I will not be returning to ANY great clips location unless prices drop. Ridiculous to have this bad of a haircut and then get blamed for the hair cutters terrible performance. read more

We *used* to get good haircuts here, but we've had two bad experiences in a row. First, my son went in and was helped by Ed. My son showed him a photo of himself with the haircut he wanted. Ed didn't listen. When my son then said "I'd like it shorter here...", Ed complained that he had to do the cut over again. We thought that might be a one off, but then we brought my daughter in asking for a pixie cut. *As my wife was in the middle of describing the cut* and saying "just take a little off the sides", the woman takes out the clippers and cuts the side super short. I'd a haircut by Eddy at Evanston location this past wknd. It was one of the most unpleasant experience for me getting a haircut. The guy was extremely unpersonable, rude, condescending, self entitled and full of himself. First thing he did, blasted his phone with dance music making it difficult for me to communicate. I'd showed him first thing that I am losing hair so make sure that you don't expose those spots. After the cut when he showed me in the mirror, I pointed out an exposed bald spot. Very rudely he said, that's your head I can't put hair where you don't have it! Seriously? I know I wasn't at Bosley Institute, no need to be a jerk and insult the customer. Also, the way he was dressed, his belly was hanging out of his tiny t-shirt and pants were hanging low on his a*se. I understand that he is not required to wear a pant suit, but at least dress to cover your body appropriately. The previous ladies used to do somewhat better job, will use a hairdryer even a straightener to show the final look. This guy did nothing. No hello, no have a great day. I see several bad reviews about this Eddy person, and clearly the owner or the corporation doesn't care about the poor service and bad name. read more

I've been using this Great Clips for months now I've never had a BAD experience. Normally it's just the regular neutral "oh yea that's what I wanted, looks good, thanks". Today, however, I had a great experience. My stylist Claudia took my fumbling attempt to explain what I wanted, determined immediately what I was looking added a few small but poignant details on what she thought would look good. She got me in and out of the chair in 30 minutes with a cut that I think is fantastic, which is perfect for a quick trip during my lunch break. She did an EXCELLENT job and I hope she's there when I come back for future cuts. read more

Friendly hairdressers. They just told me it'll be $3.99 for the entire two weeks after the Grand Opening. They did a good job with haircut. I wish we live next door! UPDATE: I got my credit card bill and they charged an incorrect amount. I called and Dana said she cannot do anything about it except what's in front of her. Apparently, someone wrote in a different amount that I did not quite approve (tips larger than the haircut amount). The receipt listed Rosario as the cutter but was a woman, she just went at it with a clippers without asking or checking my record,and cut my hair too short. . Our favorite stylist hasn't been around at the times we can go & he's had a few decent cuts from others, but not always exactly what he wanted. Worst Haircut of MY LIFE!!!!! I moved to Skokie from Wheeling. I used Great Clips in Wheeling. They stored my haircut preferences in the computer. I went to the Great Clips in Evanston. The stylist read the instructions and we discussed it. The instructions were to leave 2 1/2 inches on top and 1 1/2 inches on the side. I told the stylist, "Please don't skin the sides." She then turned me away from the mirror and left 1 inch on top and barely a sixteenth of an inch on the side. SHE DID EVERYTHING I ASKED HER NOT TO!!!!" Never step foot in that shop again. read more

I never leave reviews for anything but the guy that did my cut was just rude since I called ahead to see if they were busy and he said no so I don't understand why he had such an attitude about doing his job. As soon as I got in the chair I showed a picture as a REFERENCE to how I wanted the general shape of the cut and immediately he was put off like I didn't know hair isn't exactly like it is in pictures, I've been going to salons long enough to know that much as soon as I was trying to give him other suggestions he wouldn't let me talk and was so in a hurry for me to decide what I want or... leave? I'm old, I'm cheap and I usually associate getting my hair cut with cutting my nails. I used to go to SuperCuts on Dempster just to get it over with but I tried this place because it is closer. First person did a fairly good job. Same with second. The THIRD person did a rather aggressive job on my head and actually got rid of my cowlicks! I mentioned I usually use a cheap gel to hold it and they suggested a "forming creme". I don't normally buy stuff from a salon, but she put a *tiny* amount in my hair and I was astounded at the difference. So I'm pretty happy that I finally got a decent hair cut cheap, plus someone who knew how to look at my head and figure out what it needed. I like that they keep my info in the computer so I don't have to remember how long it was since I was last there. They also don't have some top 40 station blasting in the background, so that is a plus (for me). read more

Since this is a chain, I thought they'd have some standards of cleanliness. There was absolutely no sanitation after the previous customers haircut. The gown they used was covered with hair. They "cleaned" the scissors and clippers by briefly brushing the hair from the previous customer off. Every other place I've been to, the clippers and scissors were sanitized after use.
