This is a review for a kids hair cut. I was looking for a place that could do a curly hair cut for a boy. I had tried typical women's salons but I got ghosted or was told they only do older kids. I was able to get an appointment with Alex rather quickly. We came in the early afternoon and were able and I start right away. Last-minute walk-in to Scissor's Palace. I'd never been there before, but I needed a hair cut, and my guy has retired. I'd read some good reviews, and they're in the neighbourhood... I thought I'd give it a chance... how bad could it be, it's only hair, it'll grow back... right? I walked in, I guess I was a little early, 10:20am, they don't open 'til 10:30. The gentleman (Alex) sitting there in the dark said "no problem, come on in, I'll take you". He turned on the lights, seated me and gave me a cut. After a quick consultation, he was swift and adept, a clip, clip here and clip, clip there, and I felt like I was in the emerald city (sorry, you need to be of a certain age for that reference)... and in a short while, Alex had me looking somewhat human again. He did a really nice job. I didn't feel rushed, I didn't feel as though I was imposing by "walking-in", and the price was reasonable. I'll be back. read more

I've been cutting my own bangs through a big chunk of the pandemic. Not a great idea. My bangs are the bane of my existence. Things were going from bad to worse. I had a stylist I really liked but the salon was a casualty of the pandemic and my stylist's hours at her new salon didn't work with my work hours. So I was on the hunt. I read the Yelp reviews of Scissor's Palace and decided to give it a try. It's really more of a barber shop than a salon, but Larsa is a real stylist. For $40, I got a cut that looks like an $85 cut. She is so sweet and fun to talk to, and she totally listened when I explained my bangs woes. I was worried, as she was cutting, that she was going a little too short. In the end, though, I'm so happy with the cut. I believe I have found my new stylist. Team Larsa, all the way! read more

One of the worst haircuts I've ever received. He left my bangs completely uneven, leaving a huge clump in the middle much longer than the rest. He also left too much on the top weighing down my bangs and not letting them curl up. And worst of all, it seemed like he forgot to cut one of the sides because my right side was left almost twice as long as my left side. Would not recommend this place to anyone. I hate to leaving bad reviews, but I'm pretty upset with how my hair turned out. The positives: Clean place, friendly staff, and convenient location. I brought in a picture of how I wanted my hair to look and explained to the hair dresser that I didn't want to color it then highlight, but instead just do highlights if possible. I showed her a picture and then she handed me the color book and told me to pick which colors I wanted? I was kind of stunned, due to the fact that some colors you pick, when put on your normal hair color won't come out the way they look in the book. How am I suppose to know which color, or know if you are going to add a toner to it or not? She started working on my hair, and I noticed she had to use clips to hold the foil up to the section of hair she was highlighting. I thought that was strange, as most woman before would use a rat tail comb, holding it taught to the roots then painting on the highlight. Once I sat there for 45 minutes and she went back and repainted every single area, I figured something wasn't coming out right. I even had to ask her to go closer to the scalp because she was an inch away from scalp when she started to paint on the color.. ( that would look silly, like my roots had grown out already!) I really wanted to like this place, because it's new, and convenient location. But it was not how I expected it to be at all. I spent a lot of money for something I'm not happy with. Tried this place based on its Yelp score in August of '16 and I've been going back since. My first haircut was with ASHER and he gave me possibly the best haircut I've ever had. He's super fast but you can tell that he's skilled and deliberate in his movements. I was in and out in 20 minutes and looking fresh! I get a #2 on the side and about a inch cut off the top with the sides faded with the top. Asher nailed it perfectly. I even got a compliment from a friend on how crisp the lines are in the back and around the ear. It's $20 for the simple cut I get without shampoo or any extras. He's personable and we always have a great conversation. I usually call about a day in advance to make an appointment with Asher. I got a good laugh when I realized the name was a play on Caesar's Palace. I'll ask Asher about it when I go back in a couple weeks. I only get a simple haircut, but I would think they'll do a great job whatever your needs are. read more

Larsa is amazing! After my stylist for four years moved, I was on the hunt for a stylist who knew how to cut a pixie haircut. My husband and son have been getting great haircuts here so I thought to give them a try. I'm so SO glad I did. Larsa took the time to ask me questions, understood exactly what I wanted (And didn't want) and then proceeded to give me a great cut. Bonus: No clippers...which I really appreciate (I know many stylists use clippers for a pixie cut, but I feel the cut lays better with scissors only). I'm new in town and have been trying to find a barber/stylist. I decided to try Scissor's Palace (lol, love the name) based on the Yelp reviews. Salons and barber shops are such highly gendered spaces, and as a queer person who is gender-non-conforming, I am always nervous walking into a new shop and worry about how I will be treated and how my hair will turn out. I moved here from Los Angeles and so was a bit anxious about finding an LGBT/Queer friendly barber shop. I've been here twice and both George and Ashar have done my hair. Sweethearts, the both of them! The folks here are super chill and not judgemental at all. They care about you and your hair and want you to be happy walking out the door. Overall, they're kind, caring, and detail oriented. And my hair looks dope, too. Thanks for being so kind to me, guys! :) Pro tip: make an appointment, because this place gets busy. read more

Highly recommended by my son's friends mom. $15 for a regular Men's haircut which is pretty reasonable for the professional service. Asher is awesome and did a very good job. We tried it with my son and he took into consideration all that was instructed and also gave some of his expect advice and inputs too. As per the kids desire he even finishes using styling gel. My son and I (both mop tops) have been looking for a good, professional barber for 3 years since my barber of 35 years retired. He was "old school Italian" and took his time using scissors and great conversation. One of the best barbers I've ever been to. Always very personable and friendly. Great conversations whether it be about sports or traveling. The prices are very reasonable compared to the quality of service received. My facial hairs are usually hard to tame but Ash does an amazing job. Other places I usually leave bloody and marked up but at scissors place I leave clean and smooth. I rarely leave reviews but I highly recommend this place! I love Larsa's work and I go to her regularly now for a cut and color. I'm never disappointed and I always get compliments on my hair and eyebrows thanks to her. From short hair styles, to long and layered, to color, to eyebrow threading, she takes her time and knows how to perfect what she does. She was able to dye my brown hair violet without damaging my hair or making it dry/brittle, which I found really impressive. She's also just one of the sweetest people to talk to and has such a warm personality, it makes coming into the salon way more enjoyable! 5/5 stars from me! read more

Nothing but the best haircuts from this place. I actually followed my barber here when he switched salons. A++ cleanliness and customer service. The bathroom is nicer than some upscale restaurants, which is saying a lot for a salon lol. Parking is metered but i can't count how many times I've found meters with an hour left on them. The haircuts I get from Noor (I think that is how you spell it) are incredible. I literally travel 15 miles to this salon and I wouldn't change it for a thing. It is a little on the pricier side, but when it comes to personal grooming, you get what you pay for. I highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone. read more

I've been to Scissor's Palace twice now. I don't remember the name of the fellow who cut my hair the first time, but it was a solid cut. Today, Ashor cut my hair. The cut is excellent. Thorough, fantastic attention to detail. And Ashor was both personable and not overbearing. Every barber I have been to in the general vicinity (along Green Bay into Wilmette) has been poor to mediocre. I am thrilled with this addition to the neighborhood. read more

Stopped in shortly after 10am to have my 3 year old son get a haircut. I first asked if they cut kids hair - was told YES by receptionist and to take a seat. 15 minutes later when a barber is done, he walks to the receptionist, they talk and magically they suddenly become "booked until 11am." There were ZERO other people in the entire shop waiting for a haircut. If you don't want to cut kids hair just be a decent human and say it up front - don't lie. No one has time for BS. read more
