I've worked with a few of the stylists at Studio SLK and I'm always satisfied. I've had natural hair for a decade and rarely visit salons because I'm capable of styling and maintaining my hair by myself. However, every now and then I need to venture to a professional to get a trim or to simply give myself a break and Studio SLK is the only place I trust. Studio SLK is clean and comfortable, not to mention well decorated. The prices are reasonable and about what you'd expect for any of the services provided. During my most recent visit, while I was getting a haircut, two other ladies were getting relaxers, another was getting a blow out, and another was getting a sew-in. Long overdue update. Had issues with my schedule that prevented me from going back. Hopefully a visit back once settled again in Chicagoland. The salon helped me het extensions from another stylist last minute as my orginal stylist cancelled on me last minite. The salon has a peaceful environment and is progesionally run. Studio SLK is one of the best hair studios in the North Shore area for high quality black hair care! I started working with stylist (and owner) Sandy in 2018. When Covid lockdown started, I was began to transition my hair from relaxed to natural. Throughout my hair transition, she helped me find styles that I could manage and enhanced my look. Sandy is kind, patient, and knowledgeable about hair. I feel very comfortable asking questions about hair care knowing I'm going to receive guidance on what is effective with my hair type. I still get compliments on my hair and most importantly my hair is the healthiest it's ever been!! Tiffany is my daughter's stylist and she loves the Tiffany's styles and care she's received. We couldn't have found Tiffany at a more perfect time! She's helped my daughter learn more about hair care during her independent years of high school and being away at college. I called three days in advance asking for an appointment to straighten my hair for my birthday and I had gotten a call back three days later to come in the day of at 4 pm. I am a college student and wanted to find some place quick. I waited for three hours in the salon and she had only washed my hair and when I kept asking her when she would finish she kept saying she would get to me soon and never did. She also kept calling me desperate and I feel like my time was taken advantage of. She never told me I was being booked with another person or that it would take this long to simply get my hair straightened. Do not go to this place, going to downtown Chicago is definitely more worth it. read more

This was my 1st time at SLK Salon. It took almost 2 weeks to get an appointment. I asked to have my hair cut and styled. I tried to describe what I wanted. I did not like the work of 3 earlier salons. But now, I do not think that I'll need to go any where else. The atmosphere was great, friendly, comfortable. I'm not good at describing what I want. Courtney has been braiding my hair for 4 years because I now refuse to let anyone else do my braids. In the past I've had people braid my hair too tight. I've had to take pain pills to deal with people braiding my hair too tight. One time I got my hair done woke up the next day and took them down because they were so tight I was in pain and getting bumps around my hair line from pulling. Courtney is very gentle with my hair. I've never had pain or even slight discomfort after she braided my hair. I've expressed how important my edges are to me and she agrees. Not only are her braids beautiful they last! An added plus is she doesn't send me home smelling like Pink Oil or cheap products. She's extremely nice and professional. I was taken right in for my appt and was catered to the entire time. I will be returning! PS it was my first visit from a referral and only got a relaxer and deep condition... I love Studio SLK they provide excellent service and care for natural hair as well as other styles. I have been going to see Sandy for over 20 years and would not trust anyone else to help me make decisions about my hair care and that of my daughter. Due to the current shelter-in-place order, going to the salon is not possible. Studio SLK offers virtual sessions where the stylist of your choice can talk to you about your hear, recommend products and walk you through step by step. I was successfully able to style my daughters hair with the proper shampoo and conditioner as well as the correct brush to blow dry and feedback for correctly flat ironing. After a long day of work and visits to other salons that pale in comparison, this place is wonderful. The hairstyle I received was grade A. I can't believe that I am just finding this place. At first glance this place is great! Neat and clean, nicely decorated, and punctual. But, at the end of the day my haircut was botched. Now, to their credit, I have unrelaxed African American hair and I prefer to wear it natural. For some hairstylists hair that is very curly is a challenge to cut and style. This is why I specified my hair needs as I was scheduling. I figured this must have been the problem because I saw some satisfied customers leaving with relaxed hair and/or ironed straight styles. Long story short. Somewhere along the way the cut went really bad. I wound up having to go to another stylist who had to cut even more off to get the dimensions right. read more

Awful! Awful! Awful! Never had such bad service, they even doesn't wash your hair before cut! And hunt your ear by "accident", burn your skin by super heat hair dryer ( don't understands why they drying your dry hair?!) No surprise, the hair-style is like oh my ladygaga! I have to wear hat in next few weeks! I really want to know who issue them the license?! And why they have confidence to charge $35 with the terrible work? Will never never never get back, I hope I can give zero star! My friends and I have been going to sandy for years and I am please 9 out of 10 times. Everyone is entitled to an off day. Not to mention I can be picky. I love the new shop.
