I called this company and they were able to help me out with only a few days notice transitioning from my one bedroom (only taking a few big pieces of furniture) to a new studio due to unfortunate circumstances. The fact that they were able to squeeze me in a day before my flight for the holidays was a life saver . Dwayne was upfront about the costs for everything and we made a game plan for the move. He called me the day of to confirm everything so he'd have enough people / moving pads to help with the move. They moved so quickly and wrapped all my furniture in protective stuff, I couldn't believe how fast they were. Also this move happened for an unfortunate reason and I briefly shared that info with one of the workers when he asked why I was moving, he was so kind to me and sympathized by wanting to read me something from the Bible (even though I'm not religious). Going through a lot right now before the holidays, and that kindness truly made all the difference.. I don't believe I got his name but you know who are and thank you, especially for all the hard work of moving my stuff as a team. Said no one who has ever moved... yet, Dwayne and his team made our move as easy as humanly possible. I called a few days before (setting up appointment took less than 5 minutes), confirmed the day before, got a call moving day to give us heads up they were close, and Kama'aina movers got started few minutes earlier than scheduled. Dwayne eyeballed our apartment and set out a game plan. The team worked well together and were careful in moving our items, even a dusty fan (no shame, yeah). It was raining and they moved our stuff from a back house 2nd floor walk up apartment. The drainage system isn't great back there, so they had to sweep a few times to clear the walkway. Not once did I hear them complain, they were kind, safe, and kept it moving. Tip: complete your packing (box, label, tape up) and preparations (arrange boxes and make some sort of walking path) before your move. These guys are super efficient, have great teamwork and will do the job faster than you expect. Which = cheaper than quoted. In addition to being quick, they also used care and caution with of all of our stuff. Of course we tipped all of them for taking such good care of our stuff. They start the clock when they arrive at your door, they blanketed, shrink wrapped valuables, and showed up early to scope out the job. Highly recommend them and wish i had used them for my first move. Good group of experienced guys, so glad i entrusted them with my belongings. This was a simple and hassle free process from beginning to end! I received a quote over the phone and was able to schedule the move fairly easily. The owner asked thorough questions about the properties (stairs, parking, access, etc.) and my furniture (size of mattresses, number of items, etc.). He clearly explained terms of the contract (minimum price, number of movers, payment policy) and asked me to call the day before the move to confirm and review what would be moved. On the day of the move, a lead mover met with me to review the move process and contract, plus confirm addresses and payment. The terms were consistent with my phone call and I felt very comfortable as the movers were professional, courteous and efficient. They wrapped and padded my larger pieces to protect them from any damage, and used carriers for the mattresses and box springs. Once we arrived at the new location, they placed everything where I wanted, unwrapped the furniture and discarded the trash. So awesome! I am extremely pleased with their service and would highly recommend them! Here are some suggestions to share with my fellow Yelpers: 1) Know what you are moving (how many beds, pieces of furniture, boxes, etc.) so they can give you an accurate quote. 2) It is important for them to know key details about both properties: stairs (how many), is there adequate parking for their truck, etc. 3) Be organized! Kamaaina Movers did an excellent job with my move. My wife and I were focused on moving only our large furniture to our new home. Rather than bother friends and family, we decided to research the feasibility in simply paying movers to do this for us. We found Kamaaiana Movers through Yelp and gave them a call. Pricing was definitely fair for what we expected to be a short move (3.3 miles by Google Maps). The crew showed up promptly at 8:00 and began the move in earnest. While we had requested 3 movers and 1 truck, they provided us with 4 movers total. They were efficient in moving covering our belongings with moving blankets and getting them from our 11th floor apartment to their truck. They worked well as a team and were extremely professional in taking care of our items. Once at our home they placed all of our items where we needed them. They also did a final walkthrough with us to ensure we were good with the placement of our furniture. Totally blown away at how fantastic they were. No mileage charges and extremely fair flat pricing! We completed our move in just a touch over 2 hours (done @ 10:20) and I know these guys didn't take a break in getting our stuff loaded / transported / unloaded the entire time. My wife and I are very happy with their service and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking to do a move. *Note: When you first call them they'll likely base initial truck(s) and labor needs on the square footage of your home. I can't say enough about how grateful and happy I am for Larry and his workers for helping me move from my apartment in McCully to a new one in downtown Honolulu. I was really stressed and nervous because it was a "one-shot" deal where I only had one day to move out of my old place and into the new one, so if he didn't show up or there was a complication, I would have been out in the cold. But, Larry and his crew, are so reliable and professional and hard working. They moved fast so as to not charge you as much. They came early and packed up the stuff in about an hour and moved everything to the other place and unpacked in about another hour. They charge by the hour but for all the hard work they put into it, it is definitely worth it to have someone you can count on and does excellent work. I was relieved when all the moving was done. I really appreciate Larry and his crew. Then, I used him again today to pick up a platform bed from Lowe's, transport it back to my apartment, assemble it, and haul away the old platform bed. Just like before, Larry was on time and met me at Lowe's in Iwilei, where he picked up the bed and brought it to my apartment. He was in for a surprise because the bed turned out to be more complicated than he thought, and it took him and his partner longer to assemble it than he had anticipated but Larry pulled through and now I have a beautifully assembled platform bed. I moved out of a 2 bedroom 1.5 bath apartment, which was stuffed with a ton of clothes and random crap to take, but not many large pieces of furniture. I opted for the 2 guys, 1 truck deal. These 2 guys were unbelievely swift in moving my crap out of the apartment and into the truck. And they probably unloaded the truck at my new destination about 2x as fast. We were done in under 2 hours, but I had to pay the 2-hour minimum charge. I didn't mind forking over the "extra" cash because these guys were good (and the website clearly states the 2-hour minimum policy). I absolutely ABHOR moving..... Sorry, I do. Its a pain. It's time consuming. I get sweaty. and the list goes on. I was moving just a few blocks to a new apartment with my sister but instead of borrowing our friend's truck and doing it on our own we decided to get it moved by professionals. We were leaving most of the big furniture since our family owned the place so the biggest items we had were a tv, bed, and some lamps. With lots and lots of heavy boxes. Dwayne was nice enough to bring by 10 boxes for free before the big moving day. Everyone was packed. My sister was at work. I was waiting for the movers....and they still weren't there. I called....."Still at another job. but on our way shortly." I called again...."On our way back to town but we hit some traffic." *I'm irritated by this time....30 minutes has passed. I have work in a few hours... I call again..."Okay, we are close." Now you might think I'm crazy for giving them 5 stars but when I saw 2 trucks and 6 guys who meant business because their boss told them they needed to get this done FAST. I guess he meant it. Usually I think only 2 guys come per job. Everything was moved out from the apartment (from the 32nd floor) and into the new one (34th floor) in about 1.5 hours....and they set up my bed... Two weeks ago today, Memorial Day, we moved from Moiliili to Mililani. The week before I got in touch with Dwayne. The original plan was to do it on Tuesday but everybody was booked, including these guys, so I compromised on Monday. We discussed the logistics and came to an agreement on the price. The agreement was for three men at $180 an hour. The day of the move began with a late arrival. They showed up 20 minutes late, which isn't too bad, but late nonetheless. To my surprise 5 guys showed up. However, they kept to the agreed price which I thought was great of them. Once they got there though they got to work fast. They asked about what was going and what wasn't. They put a mattress cover on our mattress, pulled the table apart and got to loading the truck fast. On arrival to the new place they unloaded quick, put everything together that they had taken apart and finished the job without any problems. They kept they're word on the price even when they sent two extra guys. They were amicable, and did their job quick and efficiently. To be honest they deserve 5 stars, however one of the guys took a dump in my bathroom before I did and that is costing them a star. But that's my own personal neuroses at work haha. I would hire these guys again if I had to, and you should too. It made our move quick and painless. read more

I wanted to like these guys, but it just wasn't in the cards. Background: We had a small 1 bedroom move between apartments about a mile apart. Elevator to elevator. Bed, Futon, kitchen table and chairs and a few small desks. The rest were stackable bungo boxes and easily dollied. Pros: * The quote (which I felt was too high but not unreasonable) was met almost exactly. * Great communication, someone always answered the phone and i got a call the night before confirming. * showed up early by a few minutes and were ready to go * started and stopped the time appropriately and didn't try any games Cons: * 3 guys + supervisor = 4 guys for this small move. * My big complaint is that all 4 guys were in the same place at the same time the whole time. If someone was wrapping something the other 3 were watching him do it. I really wanted to see 2 guys in the elevator going down while 1 guy is staging in the truck and staging upstairs. It was just kind of ridiculous how much time was wasted. * took about 3 hours for something that could have been done in half the time. * I ended up having to help move things at the end because it was taking too long and we needed to finish * TMI someone took a dump in our toilet (yes they flushed and asked first) * lots of complaining and infighting between the crew members * futon mattress didn't have a mattress cover, and a few scratches on our brand new futon frame as well. * lots of confusion on how best to get things through doors or re-assemble things, etc... * they almost left 2 items on the truck * weird things like losing an item, finding it, seeing it in someones hand going into the building, then next thing seeing the same item on the back of the truck.... WTF?!? Our new super was smirking and laughing at me noticing this. I hate leaving bad reviews and I know this was a very young inexperienced team so I take that with a grain of salt. My stuff got to where it was going just barely under budget and mostly in tact, but I had to help, it was horribly inefficiently done, and not the smooth drama free experience I was expecting from a 4.5+ star Yelp reviewed company. Okay so these guys just literally left 2 mins ago and we are beyond happy with this company and their services. My family have been moving around in Hawaii over 20+ times and we were always moving with Island Movers (by far the worst movers ever- stealing, damaging items, super high prices, ect) till now. Island Movers were booked and I was to find another moving company that could fit us in on a short notice. Dwane answered the phone last week and was open to fit us in the week after. We live in very complicated apartments that need extra work with coming down ramps and changing moving trucks so this was a big deal to us that we found someone that could move all this without damaging anything. Unlike other moving companies, Dwane just asked detailed things about point A to point B. They didnt need to come estimate the place or whatever out of the way for you like other companies. Called hour and a half before to tell us they were coming, requested to stop at 1 place cause we had moved things there for storage and they were okay with it. Anyways, my mom is NOT the one to tip people and she did! haha she is by far soo pleased with Kamaaina, she forced me to write this review now lol. My father in law booked this company for a move from Upper Makakilo to town a week ago and the movers showed up approximately three hours late. The excuse was a broken down truck. Once the movers did arrive everything went smoothly and he was impressed by their work ethic. At the same time my father in law booked my wife and I hired them to move us from Waikele to Upper Makakilo. The move was scheduled for this morning at 7:30 and so far they have not arrived. The excuse this morning is a new driver with poor management skills. When you hire a company there is a basic level of expecatation that they will be on time, respect your belongings and act professionally. What I have seen of this company thus far is very disappointing. I will complete my review once they show up and finish the job. I never finished this review but I wanted to add that the movers eventually showed up and did a first rate job. The company even cut us a small break for the inconvenience. We were relocating to California and needed help to load a 20' container. Called around and finally found Dwayne from Kama'aina Movers. He dropped in to take a look at what needs to be loaded and quoted 2 hours for the job. Told us that he'll send 2 guys to handle the job on Friday morning. Friday morning came around and the 2 guys from Kama'aina Movers named Mike and Mike (they were both named Mike!), arrived on time and started working immediately. They took exactly two hours to load the container. Both Mikes were professional, handled our items with extreme care and made sure everything was properly and securely stacked in the container. So the time had finally come and I was moving from the building that I had lived in my ENTIRE life....needless to say, I was going to need help moving 23 years of memories and CRAP out of my house. I used good 'ol trusty yelp and found kamaaina movers.....I used 2 guys @ 90/hour and they got everything done and moved into the new place in exactly 2 hours. I was extremely impressed with their service and I'll tell you why: They showed up exactly when they said they would and were extremely punctual. My old building had 3 stories of stairs only....NO ELEVATOR and they moved all of my large items effortlessly and with care. They also DID NOT charge extra even though most companies do when they hear the word "stairs"....wimps! They also did not take any breaks during the move at all. They really worked as quickly as they could and I am more than pleased with their service. I would have gave five stars, however some incidents have happened that would make it immoral to give them five stars. This is my second time using this moving service, previously used them back in April and was satisfied with their work. This time around, is a bit different: Pros: - Keanu provided excellent customer service, he kept personnel working and worked with me on last minute add ins that were not in the SOW. - workers: they work hard minus the worker I will be mentioning in my cons. Aside from one bad seed, the workers knew what they were doing and we're professional. Cons: - they had one worker that would not pipe it down. When I say pipe it down I mean he was loud, kept criticizing his fellow movers and was just unprofessional. I was quite disappointed in this and I saw the frustrations on the workers faces having to deal with that individual. - carpet rules: this is more so for the previous mentioned worker. All other workers abided to having shoes off as I just moved into a new town home and didn't want the carpet scuffed, however said, this worker believed that since he was barefoot that meant to take his dirty feet into my carpeted home, really was disturbing. - I overheard Duane getting on one of the workers on the phone about not checking in during the move. Here is my thing as a professional supervisor/manager: unless you are there where the rubber meets the road, give your employees the benefit of the doubt when a back brief is being given, although all micro managers want to know every second of the job it is not feasible and this was a difficult move with heavy items all going upstairs. So we had an overall good experience with this company. We did have a slight glitch at the last minute, and they called us the night before our move to see if they could move us to the afternoon time slot, we declined their offer but that's when my stress level started to go up. However, it worked out in the end because my boyfriend expressed concern that perhaps all our stuff wouldn't fit in the truck we had been assigned based on a rough over the phone estimate and they ended up sending us extra workers and an extra truck that we happily paid for. So everything worked out for the best, but it did kind of ruin my Friday night. We have moved many times, so we had everything boxed up and wrapped up. We wrapped all our furniture ourselves, still had moving blankets from prior moves. These guys moved FAST. They moved us so fast I barely beat them to the new house to let them in. By the time my boyfriend got to the new house everything had been moved in. I think they were trying to stay on timeline for their afternoon move. This is the second time we have used them. They are kind of a rough and tumble moving operation, if you have priceless antiques, these guys may not be the way to go, but if you have middle of the road stuff and you know how to protect those things, they give good service at a good price. I think our move was only around 500ish, maybe a bit more with tip for moving a three bedroom house from Waipahu to Hawaii Kai. WE had no real damage to any items, the only thing I was a little irritated about, and I guess it was my own fault was my sewing dress form came apart somehow, either fell apart in the truck or someone yanked it apart. But we were able to fix it. We did however move our own computers and my sewing machine, our delicate electronic valuables we just took in our own cars, which I think is common sense anyway. They let me direct them where all the boxes and furniture were to go in the specific rooms. And at the end they stayed to ask me if I needed anything moved to a different place before they left. We individually tipped all five of our movers, and we were pretty happy because I think we got an extra mover, I think we paid for four movers and they threw in the fifth one for free! My boyfriend really likes the company and we will use them again. Oh, one more thing, these guys were very respectful of the carpeting in our new rental house. It was really white and everyone was careful to remove their shoes and they stationed a guy in the house to do box handoffs. So I was impressed with that. Moving is a very weird animal because on the one hand, it's exciting and can often mean you're moving up in the world and a new chapter is about to begin. However, getting yourself moved is, to me, the 4th worst thing on the planet behind: 1-Losing a loved one 2-Losing a job 3-Stepping in a pile of dog ... To say I agonized over my most recent move would be the understatement of the century. "...I don't know, should I do it myself?" "What company should I use...Can I afford it?" I ended up deciding to go with Kamaaina movers due to the fact that they were the most reasonably priced (and legitimate seeming) outfit I could find. Yes there are guys on Craigslist that advertise the fact that they have a truck and yes some companies say they'll do it for $50 an hour, but there was always a catch...The guys that have trucks seem somewhat unreliable and the $50 an hour is deceiving because it's REALLY $50 an hour PER MAN and there was ALWAYS a minimum. Some companies didn't call me back and some didn't have availability on the day that I absolutely HAD to move (CHRISTMAS EVE OF ALL DAYS). So ultimately, I called Kamaaina Movers and after two rings I got the boss, Dwayne. I could not be happier with the way it turned out. Let me just tell you a bit about how the day went... Move was scheduled for 1:30PM and I had it booked for 2 Guys with a 2 hour minimum at $90 an hour. Around 10AM I got a call asking if they could come earlier since they finished their previous job sooner than expected. HELL YES YOU CAN COME EARLIER! When the boys arrive I noticed that there were three of them and I immediately became nervous because $$$ is tight and I couldn't really afford more than 2 hrs 2 guys--As it was I was nervous about making it in time since I wanted to make sure I tipped them well. "Oh no, you're only paying for 2 guys---The third guy will make it go faster and at no charge to you..." SCORE!!! I was moving from an upstairs apartment within a big house in Kaimuki to a small garden apartment near Ala Moana. Furniture included a bed, futon, recliner, desk, dresser, end table. The rest of the stuff I had planned on taking myself since I didn't want it to go over two hours. At 11AM the guys phoned in to Dwayne to start the clock and at 12:30PM they called to stop it because they were finished. FAST, EFFICIENT, CAREFUL, KIND, ETC....I said before I was going to take a bunch of stuff (clothes, pillows, etc) myself to save money but they ended up taking EVERYTHING. Seriously, 30 minutes and the truck was loaded. 20 more minutes to get to the new apartment in traffic, and 30 minutes to unload and place things exactly where I asked them to. I had planned on helping a lot and acting as the third guy but I ended up doing very little. My new apartment has carpets that were recently cleaned professionally. In my OCD mind I was actually kind of bummed that they would be traipsing through the place with boots/dirty shoes as they moved. I looked at it as unavoidable and would never have asked them to remove their shoes...I did, however, as that they do their best to wipe their feet when coming in...I felt bad doing it but they completely understood....Then I notice the main guy coming in and out switched from boots to slippers and he TOOK IS SHOES OFF EVERY TIME! Though it was only 1.5 hours of work, they do have a 2 hour minimum which I was aware of. 2 guys (3), 2 hours...Came to $180+tax=$193. I gave them $240 not because I am a baller, but because they earned every penny and then some. So for the first time in my life I need to hire movers. I did my research, and call Dewayne at Kama'aina movers. He was very professional and asked all the right question so he could give a proper estimate. First day he sent 3 guys to unload a 16 foot Pod, full of furniture. A couple days later he sent 2 guys to unload another 16 foot Pod, this time with boxes. Got both jobs done on time and they got everything into my house without incident. Next time I need to move, which I hope in never, I will be calling Kama'aina movers again ! read more

The best moving experience I've had. This is our first time using movers even though we moved numerous times before, but since my parents are getting a little older we decided to look for a company and we were not disappointed. The workers are super friendly and don't miss a beat. They brought two trucks and pulled everything very nicely. They worked for the whole two hours and took very good care of our larger items that needed to be moved. They took the time to wrap and make sure things would not be ruined.
