I order delivery for this restaurant. The food was excellent and worth the money. The staff made it and packed it beautifully.

Kaiyo is located in the Central Park plaza so there is plenty of parking. They have a welcoming space with seating for about 30-40 people. The team members were kind and helpful. We were greeted immediately and seated. We visited on a Thursday as they receive Uni in their shipment. The Uni was nicely sized however was served room temperature in comparison to the tuna. The shrimp tempura and California rolls were both excellent. We will definitely visit again, it's comforting to know there is good sushi right down the road. read more

Had a nice time trying this place for the first time! Nice enough interior, not a ton of seating. Food was slow to come out despite there only being one other table in the place (maybe they had takeout orders). Food was great, though! - Tempura is BOMB. The batter is super crispy. Don't miss out. - Spicy salmon and avocado roll was pretty good! Not the top of my list but can't complain. - The Happy Island is good, less adventurous than it sounds in paper. Dominated a bit by the cream cheese but it has subtle sweet and salty flavors. - Spartan roll is solid! Gotta love crab salad and crunch. - I had a nice little pot of jasmine tea with my meal as well. Service was very kind. Prices seemed pretty on par with sushi in the area. Just had such a lovely experience at Kaiyo! We were looking for hibachi to celebrate our son's birthday, and they do have (yummy) hibachi, but it's in the kitchen. Excellent sushi rolls - this time had Detroit Tiger, spicy Vegas, and a special octopus maki on request - and a poke bowl that was as pretty as it was tasty. They also gave us special birthday treats. Everything was over and above. Great service. I'm almost afraid to share because we might want to keep the secrets to ourselves. ;) read more

I have nothing but incredible things to say about this place. We went a few hours after a home football game ended and it wasn't busy at all. But it should be because it was SO good! Food was incredible and we would get everything again! There's a bar area where you can see them make the sushi and the rest of the restaurant is adorable! Also lots of parking available. The volcano roll was not worth the price to me. The Cajun seasoning they put on it way over powered anything else in the roll. The rolls were not packed tightly like they are supposed to be so they fell apart easily. The miso soup was too salty for me. I did get a cucumber drink and that was refreshing and good. The Happy Island was great in taste. Just like I said it fell apart easily. The service was great super friendly waitress. A seemingly more upscale sushi restaurant. Menu is separated into cooked and raw, which was interesting. Gyoza are called dumplings. Feels a bit Americanized. Appetizers: Veggie gyoza were good; a bit boring but that's on me for not getting the chicken ones! House salad dressing was really good, a unique flavor compared to others in the area. Miso soup was cold, a bit of a bummer. Dinners: Chicken hibachi was SO good; the sauce on the chicken not the dipping sauce. Rice was a bit bland. Overall portion was huge compared to some others in the area. Kumo roll was good! That was my favorite. Disappointed by lack of salmon options but not surprised - the American Dream roll was okay. Thats on me though because I think I just don't like that much tuna. Rice tasted a bit old, but they weren't busy at all so it probably wasn't that fresh. The food was really good. The service was great. Our waitress was really nice. Patient and kept us updated on the order of our third roll. Ambiance was elegantly simple. Nice piano music playing. I've eaten at Kaiyo Sushi and gotten takeout multiple times. We love the sushi. Our kids don't love sushi (yet), but they love the hibachi dishes, making it a great family meal where everyone is happy. We like to get takeout to share a few dishes and sushi items at home. Recently I met someone for lunch at Kaiyo. It was my first time having lunch there and it was SO GOOD! The bento box may just be my most favorite lunch of all time! I got the vegetarian bento box and my friend got the salmon bento box. We both loved them - a great variety of food and delicious. If you haven't tried Kaiyo for lunch, you are missing out! Kaiyo is a gem in the Okemos area for sushi and hibachi. The cozy interior and ambiance welcomes you as soon as you walk in. This place is perfect from casual dining, group celebrations, to date nights. Don't let the low prices fool you- the quality is definitely fresh and thoroughly prepared. We ordered the Detroit tiger, Godzilla, and a side of hibachi vegetables. We loved each of the dishes as the fish inside was fresh and flavorful. The waiter and owner came by throughout our dinner to give us care and make sure everything was good. This place is my new go-to for sushi. My spouse and I ordered a mix of nigiri, an AAC roll, and a rainbow roll, which were all great. But the standout was the belly tuna nigiri ; I am going to be dreaming about that for days! My son had miso soup, edamame, and cucumber and avocado rolls, which he loved. The service was phenomenal (thanks, Libby!), and the chef even came out to check on us. We were bummed when Maru closed their Okemos location a couple years ago. It was nice having a decent neighborhood Sushi place. We've had to venture to East Lansing to satisfy our sushi cravings lately, frequenting AI, Sansu and yes, Maru on Lake Lansing (despite their abandonment). These are fine establishments, but we will be driving far (relatively speaking) for sushi no more, because KAIYO is open on the corner of Marsh and Central Park Drive and the food is REVELATORY. We've eaten Sushi all over the country and Kaiyo is as good,or better, than any we've had. The decor and ambience look like its predecessor but the similarities diverge there (and I'm not hating on Maru). The fish is so fresh and the rolls are so innovative that they are just on another level. Start with the Spicy Tuna poppers. Six jam-packed bundles of flavor artfully displayed on a bed of greens. Edamame is always a good bet and seems simple, but theirs is consistently tender with just the right amount of snap and salt. The rolls are dealers choice, we've never had anything but great rolls here. But tonight was our anniversary so we splurged on the Volcano Dragon Roll, at $29 the most expensive roll on the menu. So worth it. "Topped with fried lobster". Duh. How can that be anything but awesome? It exceeded expectations. The tempura fried lobster was abundant and on top of a roll that was, in-itself, otherworldly. The Summer Roll was also great. Food like this is what you get when you use quality ingredients. The sashimi and nigiri don't need wasabi, soy or ginger to move you. Oh, and the waitstaff is delightful. Eat here, soon and often. read more
