Kai Coffee is a great cafe to swing by for a light breakfast on the go! We had a full day planned ahead and needed something in our bellies before we set out. The line was quite long, but we didn't mind at all. I ordered the Kai Latte with oatmilk and deluxe breakfast sandwich and my sister ordered match and and acai bowl. Everything was a 10/10! The garlic aoli on my sandwich was amazing and our drinks were both made to perfection. My sis enjoyed her acai bowl & raved about it all morning. Next time you're on the island, skip the Starbucks and visit Kai Coffee instead! read more

Got there right at 6am. (I'm still 3 hours ahead). The line was super short and we were able to score an outside patio table. We got the Iced Kai Latte and a blueberry scone. The first sip of the Kai Latte was a very intense "coffee" kick to my senses. Then I swirled my straw in the cup a bit then took my first sip of heaven. I had to look around as I questioned my mortality. Here I am sitting outside at 6am, with the perfect temperature of 70 degrees, the sparkling views of the crystal clear Pacific Ocean as my taste buds danced in delight at the creamiest caffeinated concoction I've ever tasted in my life. The richness of the espresso, the sweet nuttiness of the macadamia nut syrup, and the creaminess of the Oatmilk (I subbed this and opted out of whole milk) all waltzed together as it overloaded all of my senses and had me questioning if this was indeed, "The meaning of life." When I die and go to heaven, I'm pretty sure there's a Kai Coffee overlooking a gorgeous ocean just like this. "Jesus, just take the wheel already. I'm coming home" P.S. I visited this coffee shop with my friend who was visiting, and I'm not much of a coffee drinker but I have been trying a few the past few months. I can't say this was my favorite, or that it even ranks in a top 10, but I do appreciate that it's all locally grown coffee beans, and loved that the post had charging outlets (but no wifi, sadly). Excellent service provided by Caroline! My wife enjoyed the Kai Latte. Her veggie wrap was delicious with plenty of fresh salad. My meat wrap also tasted great and had good amount of meat and eggs! The shop was clean and well lit and had music oldies playing in background at good volume levels. Seating is plentiful inside and outside. Outside seating provides nice view of the water and waves. Kai Coffee had been on my radar being they use 100% Hawaiian coffee is super cool...uhhh HOT to support local. With many traditional types of sips to choose from the first thing on the list can't be missed is Kai Latte which is their signature Macadamia Nut Latte. I got it with my usual love of Oatmilk and it was a beautiful smooth and light sip no sugar was needed and having the cafe placement right on Kalakaua Ave you're able to enjoy the Waikiki Beach view is a bonus with seatings available both in and outdoors to chill. Price is pretty steep but using pure local Hawaiian coffee and in Waikiki is understandable, you can taste the quality and appreciate the care that goes into each cup is pleasant. Aloha! read more

First time in Oahu and I was told the coffee here was a must try because it's good, so as soon as we woke up we went ahead and walked to find this place, but no one told us how rude the service will be. The girl taking the orders was just straight up rude and looked like she was already so tired and didn't want to help us, but it was only 7am on a Friday morning. One of the better options for coffee in Waikiki but not consistent enough . Their bean and roast is very good but often times the baristas burn the milk by letting the milk frothing and boiling for a very long time while they do other things, completely messing up the flavor of their delicious roast. So any day you can get a 5 star coffee or a 2 star coffee depending on who's making it. A good barista should constantly be feeling the temperature of their frothing pitchers to make sure they don't ruin the coffee with badly burnt milk. In my opinion, I don't care for pretty latte art if the coffee tastes burnt. I hope this local brand continues to grow as they have been growing but keep the quality of their early days in business. read more

Overpriced food for the quality. I got the savory crepe of the day vs the sweet option which was a strawberry and banana crepe with nutella. The savory option had ham and cheese with an aioli sauce on top. Crepe was not cooked all the way and was doughy. Ham, cheese, and sauce were all cheap quality. Roasting room where they roast all their own beans. We got some coffee and light breakfast before heading to our day . If you're looking for good coffee then I would recommend here! I tried kai latte but my goodness it was way too good. The breakfast wrap/ veggie was good . They also have a few choices of bakery stuff/ banana bread, scone of the day , croissant which is a good option. I have been meaning to try this place out for so long and I'm glad I did. First, the staff were so nice with bright sincere smiles, which is just what I need to start my day. I got House brewed coffee which is solid, menu shows a variety of nice espresso drinks so I'll try one the next time. The Caprese sandwich is on fresh and toasted bread which neither adds nor detracts from the sandwich. The overall flavor is good. It's served with a generous portion of fresh greens and the roasted pepper switches it up but really I didn't taste much balsamic, tomato or mozzarella. It's a nice sandwich for what it is but it didn't stand out as Caprese. All ingredients were fresh and everything tasted fine, so I'll for sure come back. read more

Located inside of a shopping center, Kai was empty when I walked in on a Tuesday afternoon. I tried their famous Kai latte iced. Which is an iced latte with Mac nut flavor. I added oatmilk. I really enjoyed it. It wasn't too sweet at all. Make sure you mix it well because all the sweetness was at the bottom. This place was very pricey but what isn't on the island! Overall good flavored coffee. I would come back. Parking is paid parking. If you only want coffee, try to get dropped off and quickly go in to order. Kai is an excellent local coffee place right on the Waikiki beach strip. I've visited both locations--one beach side and the other one right across the street. This is a nice (better) alternative than Starbucks. Coffee here is amazing, and there's no wonder why such long lines are found here. I got my usual americano (known as a Long Black here). My travel companions got a latte and cappuccino. The foam artistry is amazing, with one being a pineapple! My spouse and aunt said their craft coffees were amazing. They love Kai so much that they've come back almost every morning during our stay in Waikiki. read more

Took a walk down to Kapiolani Park this morning and stopped in for some coffee. The menu has some good options on it, though I will note that items are on the pricer end. The baristas were friendly and made a great kai latte with oat milk! It was a really balanced drink, where you could taste the hint of macadamia nut flavor and the oat milk at a the perfect temperature. Good local substitute for Starbucks! read more

Overhyped, overrated. We had the hot Kai coffee macadamia nut latte & iced version as well. You couldn't taste the macadamia in the hot coffee, but can in the iced one. We also ordered a simple ham and cheese breakfast sandwich for a whopping $11! What in the world. We're from SF so we're used to high prices but they are blatantly ripping people off for the convenience factor. I also purchased whole coffee beans... and they were $33! Crazy expensive. They don't list the price anywhere on the shelf or on the actual package, so very deceiving. It's okay, you live and you learn. read more

Went here yesterday morning and I'm so disappointed in the customer service from this spot! I was really excited to try Kai Coffee bc of a friend's recommendation but I didn't like the way my coffee tasted ( I got an iced vanilla latte). I'm not the type to ask if I can have a coffee remade or even write a bad review but my coffee tasted sour/acidic, not very smooth and I really just couldn't drink it. I felt bad if I just threw it away because it was 8$. So, I asked one of the girls politely if it was possible to get it remade and she said it was, so she told the barista that was making the drinks at the time. The barista asked me what was wrong with it and I told her that it was sour but can't really describe it because I'm not really a coffee expert & that it just tasted really off. She tells me stuff like "I'm not sure where your normal coffee spot is but you probably just like your coffee really sweet" (Which I don't) and I tell her that. She does stuff like, she tasted one of the espresso shots in front of me and tells me it tastes fine. At this point I'm just super embarrassed and tell her she doesn't have to remake it. She says she wants to make the customer happy but just comes off very condescending the whole time. She ends up putting more vanilla in my coffee as per her recommendation because she thinks I just want it more sweet and now my coffee is still bad but now with tons of sweetener. Long story short she remakes my iced vanilla latte but the whole time she's giving me info about their coffee beans (which would be fine but at this point I just feel so stupid) but once I try the new coffee, it tastes better! But seriously the whole interaction was so embarrassing that I wish they would've just said no to remaking it. Side note though, I got the breakfast wrap too and it was pretty good! read more

I gotta say that my pour over coffee is pretty good, and my husband's flat white is also good. It's open early, but you gotta get there early because the line is loooooong! The ambiance was unquestionably awesome because the location cant be beat; it's literally across the street from the famous Waikīkī beach. Service was a bit lacking, but they were busy...it just seemed like the employees hadn't had their coffee yet?? The açai bowl was a total rip off. $13 for a cup! Grr. On a recent family walk morning, we decided to grab a light breakfast and some drinks. Kai Coffee was the perfect spot as the other half had just visited a few weeks before. The coffee shop is located in the Alohilani Resort, with the entrance on Kalakaua. The entire block has been remodeled with new restaurants and retail. They have tables outside to eat or work, plus the beach is right across the street with tables and benches as well. They have the place socially distanced with clear arrows on how to enter and exit. It was more popular than I thought it would be, with a constant stream of people. The three baristas were working hard, which made everything go quickly. They have a selection of breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and drinks: coffees, tea, made any way you'd like. Drinks only have a kama'aina discount. We ordered the breakfast wrap (I got the wrong one, but it was still delicious) with eggs, meat, and spicy aioli. We also had the BLT sandwich, a cold coffee, and unsweetened peach iced tea. Everything was delicious and richly filling without feeling bad after. Prices are high for the portion size however. We'll be back. read more

Pre-COVID shutdown, I was able to visit Kai Coffee a few times on my visit. A couple of Kai coffee shops along Kalakaua Avenue; little shop is convenient when staying in the area. Long line, but it moves quickly. Place your order on one side of the counter and it's delivered on the other side. Once I had latte in hand, I grabbed a seat at the tables with umbrellas outside on the sidewalk. Had their signature Kai Latte (macadamia nut latte) and a croissant. Kai latte was a good start for my day and not too sweet. Croissant was flaky and standard. Sipped latte, snacked on croissant, and people watched along Waikiki beach. read more
