I was in need of an early morning coffee while visiting Waikiki, and this kept being recommended by people. So I strolled over there early on a Friday morning, and ordered the breakfast burrito and macadamia nut latte. The staff was super friendly and got my order out promptly. I took it over to enjoy at the beach, which is just across the street. The burrito was a little bland and I wished I'd asked for more spicy sauce, but otherwise everything was good! read more

Woke up early took a long flight, checked into my Waikiki hotel and there is a festival going on. I was overdue for some coffee and Kai Coffee was nearby. Check their menu and they do pour overs. A pour over is a single cup of coffee made carefully to order. As such, they are priced higher than coffee from a pot, and you get to choose the coffee you want to try. I make them at home but I'm no barista. The two people working here were very friendly and easy to engage in conversation. Enjoyed my coffee outside facing the beach. The coffee was brewed strong, but was not bitter in the least. Full flavor and fully charged, ready to face the crowds, sights, and sounds of the Spam Festival. Highly recommended. read more

Good coffee. I'm curious how the drinks are made so quickly after you order. The line can get long, but once you order and walk around the corner, your coffee is miraculously ready? This was THE coffee spot during our trip. After trying their Kai/mac nut latte once, I suddenly needed it every morning the rest of my stay, it was rly that good! SKIP THE LINE: There's definitely a line here almost at all times it seems, but one day while I was waiting in line a nice man came up to me and let me know that there's another Kai cafe/storefront inside of the hotel if you go to the left of the cafe through the double doors connected to the backside of the same building- practically NO wait and the exact same menu/everything! Forgot the hotel's name but it's the one with a large lobby/seating area and an indoor aquarium you can sit and watch which is a huge perk. I'll definitely come back and work from this spot in the future. But seriously- this mac nut latte, get it if you love a good latte even if your usual is oat or almond. Try it as is first!! read more

The coffee is SO GOOD. I got an iced latte w/ oat milk and the oat milk was creamy- no clumps lol. The breakfast wrap is amazing and the sauce it comes with is the best thing ever. I would eat the sauce by itself seriously. The açaí bowl is delish and classic, a little small for the price but has a thick blended base and fresh fruits. Caprese was just okay because there wasn't a lot of mozzarella and it was melted so it was thin and stringy when I thought it was like a cold slice or mozzarella ball. But it was pretty good other than that and maybe ppl like the melted vibe. Overall great place for a quick breakfast! read more

The one thing I enjoy the most when I travel is search for amazing coffee or lattes. This place was closest to the hotel I was staying at for 1 week so I decided to try this place out. I am always excited to try a new cup of joe at a new location, but this place was not what I expected. I stood in line and when it was my turn to place my order, the person at the register had asked me what I would like to order. He did not look up to ask me. He was looking down at the register the whole time. No eye contact whatsoever. It was the strangest thing. I have never encountered anyone like this before. I was placing an order with the top of his head. I asked him what he would recommend because it was my first time at Kai and he just stated, "It all depends on what you like." That was it. So to make things easy and quick, I just ordered an Iced Kai Latte. After placing my order, it took FOREVER to get my latte. Everyone before and after me got their drinks, but for some reason, mine took longer than ever. There was an iced beverage on the pick up counter so I asked the gal that was making drinks if it was an Iced Kai Latte. She turns to me, rolls her eyes and states, "It's for Richard!" Oh my bad rudy-poo! Didn't mean to bother you, but I have only been waiting until yesterday for my drink to be made. After waiting over 30 minutes for my drink and there was no longer a line, I returned to the counter and asked another guy if the Iced beverage on the counter was still Richard's. He tells me with an attitude, "It's for Jennefer!" *I close my eyes, took a deep breath & sighed with frustration* I should have known better not to proceed to order anything at this place when there is no adult staff working at the establishment. The staff/youngins were just plain rude. It was definitely too early for me to encounter this type of behavior. Not only did I experience rude at this place, it took super long to get my beverage and it was not even worth it. Expensive and made with no love! Smh! I know plenty of people like this place, but as an ELITE, I will stick with Island Vintage Coffee instead. I was in Hawaii for 1 week and this place was the only establishment that I encountered RUDE behavior!!! Not even by just 1 person, but all 3 that were working. Will I recommend this place to friends & family? Not a chance! Hopefully, the staff at other locations are a lot nicer. Dear manager: Please train your staff to be kind to your customers. I said recently I never had a crepe before. Correction, I was reminded that I have in fact eaten a crepe. Last trip to Waikiki, I shared Nutella and Banana Crepe with a loved one. How could I forget! We stayed just a block away and spent most every morning there for coffee and planning our day. It's a little open air shop right across from Waikiki Beach. Very sweet staff that made us feel like locals. The house roasted brews are excellent! Well, I am kamaaina! I remember now. I was on my way back to our hotel and stopped to enact a random act of kindness. I got the crepe for my GF and ran a block back to gift her. I did get a bite and it was delicious! Kinda like waffle. Now I'm wondering if it was a crepe or something else. I guess you call them "the good old days?" read more

I normally don't get this kind of combination of flavors, and it tasted like something you'd get in a Michellin-rated establishment. Looking back at the photos, I see vanilla bean seeds in the panna cotta, so every loving detail and nuance shows through with each mouthful. Nama Chocolate $5.75 is my go-to chocolate LOVE. It's cut into cool creamy semi-sweet squares dusted with cocoa and it melts in your mouth! This is my favorite of all things that Kulu Kulu makes. I actually enjoy this better than the famous Royce Chocolates from Japan. We ordered another seasonal Strawberry dessert slice cake but it was eaten before I could review (and/or taste it); I've heard it was very very delicious. This place is so good that I plan to bring my friends who will be visiting from Virginia here to try their pastries. I also plan to support this business for as long as I can and make more frequent trips to town just to get these amazing desserts.

Small and cozy coffee spot in Honolulu…read more The coffee was great- it had a bold, smooth, nutty flavor profile. It had enough flavor naturally so I didn't add any sweetener or creamer. The service was good and the location was perfect. I sat outside and enjoyed that. Overall, good experience.

I recently visited Kai Coffee and had high hopes, but unfortunately, it fell short for me. I was looking forward to a strong cup of coffee to kickstart my early morning, but what I got was quite the opposite. The coffee was weak and lacked flavor, leaving me feeling unsatisfied. When I need that morning jolt, I expect my coffee to deliver, and this place just didn't do it for me. Based on my experience, I can't recommend Kai Coffee to anyone looking for a robust coffee experience. read more

Absolutely loved this spot! Kai Coffee is a hidden gem right on Kalakaua Ave--perfect for a pre-beach pick-me-up or a relaxed morning coffee. The espresso is rich and smooth, and the iced lattes are perfectly balanced (not too sweet!). Staff were super friendly and the service was quick, even with a line. The vibe is chill, with a great view and cozy seating. Definitely a must-stop if you're in Waikiki and appreciate good coffee! read more

The line up was approx. 30 mins to get coffee. The macadamia nut latte was really good. The guy at the counter was appreciative of my tip unlike some customer service people I encountered. My husband wasn't that impressed with his regular coffee but, he wasn't disgusted. I'd definitely get another mac. latte from there. read more

I ordered the Kai latte and it was great. But what stood out to me was the banana bread. It reminded me of the way my grandmother would make it. Very moist and flavorful. read more

Unfortunately, the drinks were not great. The Kona latte was so sweet that it overwhelmed the coffee flavor, and the matcha was both gritty and overly sweet. The ube cheesecake was also disappointing, as it had noticeable chunks of unmixed cream cheese throughout. The bright spot was the service. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, welcoming, and served us with genuine smiles, which made for a pleasant experience despite the drinks. One helpful tip: the coffee shop is located inside the hotel. You can enter through the lobby and head down the hallway to the right, or access it directly from the parking area. Overall, while the customer service was excellent, we wouldn't return for the coffee or desserts.

It's tucked away and a small place but their espresso pull is quite good! My only complaint is that the espresso had a slight bitterness aftertaste but that was solved by adding a little more milk. If you enjoy espresso that is slightly sour, this is the place for you! Very friendly staff too.
