Pay by cash! I went in with a group and paid for my part of the bill with a credit card. I just ate a little bit, so my bill with tax was $11, total with tip $13. Looked at my credit card online a few days later, and they charged me $18. So, I figured it might be an honest mistake, and called the restaurant. The person who answered the phone, after a lot of saying, "we don't do this on purpose, I know the waiter made a mistake" (ok, that's fine, mistakes happen), told me I should come to the restaurant in person to pick up $5 cash. The problem with that is that I live in Warwick and was out of town in northeastern MA visiting family, and it was going to cost me more than $5 in gas to come back to the restaurant. So I asked if they could just credit my card. The guy on the phone didn't know how to do that and suggested that I just come order more food, and they'll give me a discount. Because, of course, I want to spend MORE money at the restaurant that just overcharged me. NO. I asked them to have the manager call me and try to sort it out ... the issue is pending. read more

Kabuki in Wakefield, RI is a damn disgrace. My girlfriend and I had a 6:45 reservation. We arrive at that exact time. We get there and they cross our name off the list. They then don't seat us. After 20 minutes we ask "We had a 6:45 reservation." They go "Oh yea sorry, you guys missed it." Then they offer to put us back on the list that includes a 45 minute wait. Let's just say I didn't type all of this out while waiting for a table at Kabuki. Deplorable. I do not recommend. read more

I have been a long time customer of kabuki's. When Kabuki first opened, they were good, but then they went through a bit of a "slump". Nothing horrible, but the scene changed because they were doing the whole DJ thing and also karaoke. It just made the atmosphere feel low end. I have noticed a SIGNIFICANT change in the level of service and class on the last few months. Aside from a few aesthetic changes in the restaurant, I presume there is new management because it feels so different when I walk in. The new manager Brad is the absolute best thing that could have happened to this restaurant. He is BY FAR the key factor in Kabuki's turnaround. He raised the level of this restaurant. My husband and I have become regulars. Usually we take our sushi to go due to hectic work schedules, however tonight we dined in and I was really pleased with our service, yet again. Don't expect white glove service, but know that the casual and classy atmosphere is worth the trip. Also, another new thing they are doing is a punch card for each time you dine. Once you fill up the card, you get a gift card to the restaurant. So worth it. But yeah, please let me reiterate the new management's impact on this establishment. Wife and I went to Kabuki last night and it was not so good. Actually she ordered sushi and from what she says it was decent. I however am not a fan of sushi so I ordered a Japanese BBQ chicken dish from the entree section of the menu. It was a disappointment and for the cost, a rip off. The dish was described as marinated BBQ breast of chicken set atop an Asian slaw with edameme mashed potatoes on the side. What I got was a breast of chicken, sliced and saute'd served on a piece of iceberg lettuce with a glass (?) of green mashed potatoes on the side. The chicken was rubbery and tasted like it was cooked in Soy Vey marinade from the supermarket. Not BBQ in any part of the world. The mashed potatoes were edible but nothing memorable. All this for a mere sixteen dollars and change. Also, four bucks for a half-pint mug of draft beer is robbery. read more

amazing food. go here all the time. almost 4 times a week probably, most of the servers are probably terrified at my reoccurring appearance at this restaurant. but today really put me in a melancholy state of mind. i ordered my food online at 7:17 and even at 8, it still wasn't done. it takes a shorter amount of time to receive it when you sit down and eat! this is very upsetting and i will now down my visits to only 3 times a week. i'm so sorry kabuki, but you broke my heart. read more

I wouldn't say Kabuki is the best sushi, but it is the best that you will get in the URI area. My favorite roll to get in the American Dream Roll, but I swap out the spicy sauce for the mango sauce. The ambience of the restaurant is very nice and it is never to crowded. Oh and the scorpion bowl is a must! read more

We went here on a late night to get drinks and got sushi. It was easily some of the freshest tasting sushi I've had in the northeast. The Tuna Awesome was my favorite. I had the Lychee martini which I could have all day any day if it didn't kill me. Delicious. Quick service, great food, and an attentive waiter. My friend's drink was particularly strong- I can't remember the name of it now- just be sure to ask how strong some drinks are. This always a good problem to have though ;) read more

I used to love this place. The last three times I have been with friends for lunch and wine, we have gotten horrible service. The host- some jackass who wears his tie on the *inside* of his button-up shirt- is such a dick and the waiter snubs us to the point that we have vowed to not return. Too bad. The food is good. Came here yesterday with my son, and let me say the sushi is great! Definitely the best you're going to get anywhere near wakefield. I would say its a little pricey, but hey when you have no competition i guess that's to be expected. A few very small complaints, i didn't gget hardly any any ginger on the side, and one ocf my rolls was very thin, much smaller then I was used to. But i will be back again soon for sure! read more

Ok, I loved this place even after my initial hesitance to come in considering I've heard from many locals that it's become a popular drinking place. The food was excellent the last 2 times I came in. This time: not so swell. Mom and I went there to meet my niece. we had to do a little business as well as wanted a little time at a fancy place without the big man. He hates rice, pasta, white potatoes and always orders skim milk. It narrows down our restaurant choices. As we talked the waiter was hovering a bit, no big deal. We ordered a Basil Calamari appetizer initially. Then Mom and J ordered Maki C: Shrimp Tempura, California and Eel Avocado rolls and Maki A: (3 rolls) Tuna roll, Salmon roll and California roll with salads respectively. I ordered the Mango Chicken: young chicken breast, fresh mango, red pepper, snow peas, red onions and asparagus. They rolls were delicious as usual. The Mango Chicken was uninspired and would really suit someone who has a delicate stomach since it doesn't have any spices in it. I won't be getting it again. The appetizer came but it was the regular calamari which is: Crispy calamari with sweet chili sauce and spicy mayo dressing. We sent it back since the waiter got the order wrong. We expected the Basil calamari sauteed fresh squid with basil, bell peppers, red onions, celery, garlic and ginger. What we got was the calamari that we returned to the kitchen adorned with sauteed basil and green onions. Oh yeah it was on a different plate. I guess they figured that we were too stupid to figure out it was the same squid. That has lowered my opinion of this place. Not only that after raving about it to J it makes me embarrassed to ever send anyone else there with a good recommendation. We didn't send the appetizer back fearing that it might get spit in on it's next trip to our table. I rarely send things back knowing how certain restaurants' kitchens handle returns. What may look like a classy restaurant may hide an angry staff behind kitchen doors. And when a restaurant cheaps out and sends the original food back and incorrect the second time it's a red flag. This place makes me a little weary. I will be cautious the next time I invite someone here and will be hesitant to go myself. I am sure that J will probably not be too keen on returning here especially with clients. So in a way we probably did her a favor. Lesson learned, use caution when coming here. Make sure you have the waiter read your order back to you. And ask if there are any spices in a dish. read more

Went here for my birthday a year ago, I had a great time. The only thing I didn't like was the price. Over $120 for 4 people. Granted, we did have a lot of sushi and drinks but when I saw the bill, I almost fainted. Good part for me was I was being treated so I didn't have to pay (thanks Jules ;-p ). Went for lunch. Were the only people there on a Monday 2PM. Sad, in a way, because the lunch was completely deelish. Of course, my eyes being much bigger than my stomach, ordered WAY too much...but couldn't help myself from chowing it all down. We order mostly dinner at Kabuki, not much sushi. I have yet to enjoy a meal there. We go mostly for a young relative who loves the avocado rolls. I've tried the crispy fish (coating like cement, little fish inside); Mongolian beef and Pad Thai that were both pedestrian at best; and Bangkok Seafood that included OK shrimp and scallop (pieces), but the "crabmeat" (really pollock) was imitation although not indicated on the menu, and half a lobster tail that had the texture and taste of a leather belt, Hot and sour soup is good. Call martinis are $10 bucks (too much for this place), plus the waitress forgot to bring it until I had to ask when she brought out the meals. Two stars is generous if if you're not there just for the sushi. read more

I've been here a handful of times, and every time is for the late-night menu. The first time I ate here was the first time I'd ever had sushi, and I'm glad I tried it. I try to get something different every time, and everything I've ordered has been delicious. Waitstaff has ranged from excellent to "nothing special", but always friendly. Bar area is nice, with staff often singing karaoke surprisingly well. Everything is clean and well put together. Final word: I'd recommend going late night to save some serious cash (4 bucks for an order versus 14) and eating the American Dream, because it's fantastic. This is a great place to relax and have some sushi and cocktails. Cam and Keith are both awesome. They were both attentive and engaging. The perfect mix of friendly and hard-working. The lychee martini is great. They actually have lychees, which is awesome! Their soups are also delicious and I love their peanut/avocado rolls (though I am not a vegetarian). Kabuki has the best sushi you can find in Rhode Island, the sushi chefs are very talented and you can watch them work at the sushi counter if you wish! I always order the angry dragon roll and crazy tuna and am never disappointed. My girlfriend isn't so crazy about seafood but they have plenty of non-sushi/seafood items and they taste above average. They have a rewards card (not sure about the exact deal but it's a stamp card so dont lose it!). The servers are very kind and genuine. If you choose to dine here make sure you bring a sweater because it gets very cold! If you are 21 or over make sure you order a scorpion bowl!! read more

We first were seated in the bar area which was dark and dingy and loud with bad music. So we asked to be switched to the restaurant where there was plenty of room(don't know why they shoved us out back) Once in the restaurant, we had awesome service and decent food. We had 2 different soups to start off which were made with fresh ingredients, nice. I had sushi, which was an amazing presentation and he had pad thai which was ok. Food was pretty good but pricey. Drinks had very little alcohol and were also pricey. We ordered scorpion bowls, they didn't light the 151 on fire and the Mai Thais tasted like fruit juice with nothing else.. i drank 3 and i am dead sober. The waitress showed up to our table only when she absolutely had to and was otherwise tuned out.
