I rate this restaurant with a one star. After reading all the positive reviews I decided to try sushi here. I eat sushi frequently and very often eat fish. I presently live in Miami having spent many years living in New York City. I know my fish and often prepare fish at home. The nigiri salmon and tuna was the poorest quality ever. If I ate them with my eyes closed I could not tell you what fish I ate. The salmon was limp and the tuna did not taste like tuna. Was it Bonita? I've been here a few times and have had average experiences, but recently had a terrible one. We decided to have a seat at the bar around 7:30 and we're going to order drinks and a meal. The bartender came over and placed a couple of menus in front of us--- without saying a word. We glanced over the menus and figured out our order in about 5 minutes. We closed the menu and tried to make eye contact, making it obvious that we were ready. We waited another 10 minutes and the bartender still didn't take our order. There were only about 3 other parties at the bar at this point. He proceeded to serve people who walked in after us. After continuing to not acknowledge our presence, we decided to get up and dine elsewhere. I'm offering 2 stars because the sushi is fair, but does not match the quality you might find elsewhere (I.e. In Providence). Kabuki was a 3 star restaurant before last night, but unfortunately lost a lot of my respect after this poor experience. I'll stick with the lunch takeout every 2 weeks to a month. read more

Its odd coming home to Rhode Island for a week and going to a sushi joint, but nonetheless, when one gets that craving for sushi, naturally you heed the call. Kabuki did not disappoint. The location is very nice and modern inside. Great ambiance and attentive service. With everything we ordered, the plates just kept getting better and better. I love cold Sake so I was pleased to see they offer a pretty high end brand. It was very smooth! Apps Yellow Tail with Jalapeno- the mixture of the two flavors together is a flavorful explosion on your palate Salmon Golden- salmon belly with chili sauce! Mmmmm, delish Tuna Wasabi Dumplings- AH-MAZING The tuna itself acts as the wrap and inside is a mixture of crab and wasabi. It was excellent! Dinner Wakefield Roll- great mixture of lettuce lightly seasoned with citrus over a sushi roll that has tuna, salmon, asparagus, honey wasabi and tempura in it. Yum! Six Flags roll- This is by far my next FAVORITE roll! It was delicious and the presentation of this roll is nothing short of spectacular with its sauces that are center stage of the plate. It is the Tempura roll with shrimp and king crab and its topped with scallops and crunch sweet potato strips. I've eaten a ton of sushi in my day, and this place is excellent. This restaurant had good lunch specials. Including sushi and bento boxes. The bartender was great! I enjoyed the value. For sushi in south Kingstown it's fairly priced. If you're used to other RI sushi landmarks you may be disappointed. But not bad for a local outing or tourists. I did hear they have some good specials but was unable to get any. read more

We love this place. We were amazed by the set up and decor. It's absolutely stunning. The staff is excellent - so friendly, very helpful. They have a huge sushi bar. Their bar is big too. The menu has a lot of sushi and appetizers on it. They have very few entrees, but enough to work with. They have amazing teriyaki dishes [I mean the traditional Japanese technique of grilling/broiling the meat in a soy sauce marinade ... not "teriyaki sticks" - that's Chinese!]. While we were there, we overheard quite a few small-minded comments. Lets all be reminded that China and Japan are two very different places ... sooo the Japanese restaurant probably doesn't have General Tso's Chicken...! The staff was VERY helpful and knowledgable. This place is wonderful. The decor is really romantic - darkly lit (but not too dark), comfortable seating, nicely dressed waiters, etc. You would never guess that you were right by the busy shopping center in South County! The food was incredibly tasty. We went for my partner's birthday, and everything was excellent. We ordered two appetizers and the $60 "Chef's Choice" dinner, which came with 3 other appetizers! The apps were easily the best part of the meal because it really showcased what you could do with sushi ingredients that were not bound by tradition. There was a tuna and avocado pouch that was out of this world - the pouch "wrapping" was a thin slice of raw tuna! I could go on and on, but yes - the apps were amazing. This is not to say that the sushi, sashimi and rolls were got were also not top-quality, because the fish was fresh and succulent. We did not get any alcohol, but the iced green tea was very refreshing. Our server was a bit unsure of himself - shy and mumbly, so we weren't quite sure what we were eating, even though it was described to us. But he was prompt, helpful, and kept our table clean, so it was not that much of a distraction. Price is reasonable for sushi - not cheap, not too expensive. Of course, you can get real spendy real quick, but the quality and innovation you get for the price you pay is really something else. read more

I have been to Kabuki more than once only for their late night sushi and the previous time I came the sushi was exceptional, especially the Tuna Amazing and the American Dream special rolls. If you do go for late night sushi I would recommend the rolls every time. The Tuna Amazing I give a 7/10 and the American Dream I give a 8/10. However this time around I was unimpressed. Let me just mention that Kabuki isn't a place to go for gourmet sushi. For instance they used crab for their California roll that you can tell came right from the freezer, and the rolls aren't anything to boast about. They are great, but you can easily find a better sushi place in the area, especially if you venture into Providence. For late night sushi they provide you with a limited selection of sushi to choose from in which they have a deal where you can choose either three rolls and a drink $6 or under or you choose two rolls and a special roll with a drink that is $6 or under. I believe each selection is around $15. Like I said the first time I went I was very impressed with the sushi, but this time around I was not. The rolls I received were falling apart as I kept trying to eat them and they seemed to be very thin and lacking a good amount of fish compared to the last time I came. The rolls were still very good, but just not to where I would like them. I wouldn't consider myself a sushi snob, but I know there are better sushi places to go than Kabuki. The fact of the matter is that it's cheap and convenient if you're living in the Wakefield area or going to school at URI. The service as well was very rude to my table. The server came over and looked as if someone at his last table dined and dashed because he was miserable. Anytime we asked a question he would give the quickest response possible and if left our table very uncomfortable. Now again it could've just been it was late and he has to deal with mostly college students, but it just caused my experience their as a returning customer to suffer. I'm very big on when I go to a restaurant I would like to have a similar experience when I go back to have the food again. So when the food isn't as tasty as I remember it or the service isn't as outgoing and polite it causes me to reconsider suggesting the same place to people. read more

Went recently with the family after a day at Narragansett beach. Nice decor, pretty dark as others have said. The men's room is even darker, almost weird.. The host was very friendly with the kids and we were seated immediately, and no problems with our casual beach dress. Food was fine, good portions on the make, but nothing special taste-wise. Although they had a table advertisement for oyster shooters and I ordered them, they came back and said they had no oysters .. strange considering they are a couple of miles from a major harbor, but they said they only get them in from Washington state. Not impressed with that, would rather see them support local fisheries. Not much else to talk about. I would consider going back if in the area and really hankering for sushi, but otherwise would not go out of my way to stop there again. Just OK. read more

I bought a Groupon for this restaurant. It was for $20 worth of food. When we arrived to pick up our food there was a sign on the door that said you had to purchase $40 worth of food (not $20) to use the Groupon. They also would not honor the Groupon at all because a Manager was not there to approve it. A call to Groupon said they have had trouble with this restaurant since the Groupon was sold. I would not trust eating sushi at a restaurant that tries to "cheat" its customers. Will never go back there!! read more

I was impressed with Kabuki. I had been told the portions were on the small side and the food a bit overpriced. But I did not find that to be the case on my visit. The service was great. Staff was attentive and friendly. We had trouble making up our minds and they joked that we were welcome to stay til closing at 1 a.m. The sushi chef overheard and made us a delicious tuna salad to snack on while we mulled it over. The sushi rolls were presented beautifully. I really noticed and appreciated the presentation. I went simple, ordering the Philly roll and a spicy tuna. (It's easy to screw up the basics!) Their sushi is very good - reasonably priced, with a huge selection. Particularly of interest to me is always the more creative rolls, and these guys do not disappoint, with all kinds of novel combinations, including some that pair fruit with the fish, a surefire way to make me take notice. It also highlights the freshness of the fish. The service was impeccable, especially for a slow night - the waiter was quick but not lurky, the meals were fast, and the arrangement of the tables would allow for private conversations even on a hopping night. The only bummer was the tea. I went on a Monday night to grab a drink with friends. Entering, I was like "what is that smell?" The entire place smelled of wet, fried food. Kabuki has a nice look and feel to the place, the smell was AWFUL! So we sat at the bar, I had the Sake Sangreia....dangerously good @ $5! My friend had a raspberry Mojito, which she said was delicious and also only $5! Bartender never took our $ We had other friends come in to meet us, took the bartender FOREVER to come over and gather drink orders from them. Now mind you, we were sitting AT THE BAR! Right near the cash register...kinda hard to miss us...... Finally my friend and I had to leave, so we left our $ with another friend to pay the tab. I'm actually shocked by the reviews that I have read about this restaurant. I went here for the first time on Saturday night and it was awesome!! It was the perfect date night spot, intimate and delicious! Yes, it is dark in the restaurant, but it has beautiful illuminations and sparkling candles on each table. This is not a place to go and have lunch with you grandma people, it is a place to go on date night. My date and I were seated in a cute booth for two, one of those booths I call cuddle booths, the only weird thing was the table was a little high. First off I ordered the Tom Yum dumpling soup which had a wild kick of spice, but was a unique and delicious vegetarian soup. It had a rather thick broth with red curry, plenty of spinach and vegetable dumplings. I highly recommend it if you like spicy food. My date got the pork dumpling, mushroom miso soup, which he said was very good as well, sounded like miso soup on steroids to me. We next split and order of vegetable lo main which had all kinds of vegetables and was addictively yummy. Now let me get to the sushi, OMG so good! I got the green peace roll which was refreshingly good. It had sun dried tomatoes, asparagus, kiwi, and much more with delicious fruity sauces. It was awesome to order a fancy hand roll that is vegetarian. The sweet potato roll I ordered was super delicious as well. My date got the fuji apple roll which he said was one of the best rolls he has ever had, which is a huge compliment because he Loves sushi. We used a groupon, but the bill was still pretty high, but the meal was so very good. The staff was not completely on their game, but they were very helpful when asked. While we were eating, an older male staff (not our regular waiter) came over and filled out water glasses. At the same time, he asked us "why don't you drink, are you a loser." This place was a stop in before we caught a movie, my dining companions had been here before, but I had not. The first thing I noticed when entering is the nearly all black and maroon interior, U-G-L-Y. The food was decent. We all shared a sushi boat and it was nothing to write home about. The prices were on par with most other places. The service was friendly, but slow and as it wasn't busy, that was confusing. The wait for the check took a while and water glasses remained empty. I love this place. I come here so often that the manager (?) recognizes my face! Sadly I haven't seen him the past few times though... (was he let go!?). My friend introduced this place to me a while ago and their fried rice and noodle dishes are amazing. Though when I tried their soba noodles, even though they were still pretty good, it looked a lot like ramen noodles (from the packet). I was like, "are these really soba noodles?" But their udon is good. I love, love, love their miso soup! I've been recently going here for their lunch specials just so I can experience more sushi because it's only $10 for 3 rolls and it includes soup or salad (which I get miso soup)! I mean this place is fine. The sushi is the better sushi of the area but it's still not great. Absolutely overpriced for the quality. And the regular food was very average. The worst part of the experience was how loud and crowded it got. The bar was on the other side of the restaurant but it felt like you were sitting right there. And the tables are so close together that no one can walk through without hitting each other. Even the servers had trouble bringing food over because it was like a maze. You could also hear everything that was happening in the kitchen. Multiple times you could hear yelling and screaming between wait staff and cooks. None of the employees seemed too happy to be there. We live in Narragansett so this is not far to go. We've dined there several times, and I've picked up takeout more than once. My wife loves sushi (I like it), and usually loves theirs. Takeout menu could use more pictures, because they make dozens of varieties, and the text doesn't make us go, "That's the one!" because we're not sure how it actually presents. Not a complaint, just an idea. What stands out down here in South County is their side-trip to Chinese food. I LOVE hot & sour soup, and grade first-time visits to Chinese restaurants by it, and by the fried dumplings. Have to say their hot and soup is the best I've had in my memory. Their Szechuan dumplings are also very good. Since a local Chinese restaurant in Wakefield recently closed, Kabuki is my go-to place for both sushi and Chinese food. read more

The food here is amazing! I had the chicken hibachi dinner and it was one of the best I've had. The portion was a little bit smaller then what I'm used to but it was super yummy. The only issue is the service is horrendous our waiter handed us the check and we waited over 20 minutes to give it back to them and the restaurant wasn't that busy. My friend and I had lunch here and were really pleased. The restaurant is beautiful, with a large sushi bar, loads of tables, a u shaped bar area, with some high tables at the windows, where we sat. The service was excellent, helpful, even explained how to eat rice with chop sticks, we each had a glass of wine, $6-$7. The lunch menu was good size and affordable. We each had a Lunch Box $11. This came with soup or salad, I had the Miso soup, very good, not just a clear broth, tofu, mushrooms, and some kind of seaweed, that gave it a really nice flavor. The lunch box was a beautiful presentation, wish I had brought my camera. A perfect circle of white rice with black sesame seeds, two shrimp dumplings,yum, a decent size piece of salmon with onions,eggplant and broccoli in teriyaki, six pieces of a California roll with wasabi and ginger and a pretty half of an orange cut into bite sized pieces. My friend had the Vegetable Tempura lunch box, it had all the same items with a large serving of lightly battered vegetables and a dipping sauce. I cannot wait to return, the menu is intriguing, lots of things I want to try, the most expensive entree is King of the Sea, Shrimps, scallops & lobster in a lemon butter sauce @ $25. If you are a real Sushi expert, they have a "Chef's Inspiration "Omakase" tasting menu that starts at $60. This restaurant is a real find and I intend to return soon. read more
