Truly superior food. Everything we ate was spectacularly delicious and abundant. Loved it all!! My fav was the flavor and crispness in the crab rangoons. The curry chicken was a huge portion I got 3 meals out of it!! Tender chicken, slight heat, so delish! Alright, here is the quick run down. We came for Narragansett restaurant week. The deal was $25 for a soup/salad, an app, a specialty roll or kitchen entrée and a fried icecream dessert. Space is decent, nothing to really write home about. It was definitely a casual spot. Service was poor, very slow at the start so it took a long time to put in our order. It eventually picked up and the food came out fast, but not good on the first impression. Rock shrimp was solid, good flavor, nice texture on the shrimp. Definitely lobster-like in texture which I've read. The salad was a typical salad with miso ginger dressing. Always solid. The spring rolls my wife got were kind of mushy.. Not very appetizing. I think they were over fried. The sushi rolls were specialty ones, the rhode island roll and out of control roll. Both decent, but the fish was not a great texture. It wasn't nice, firm fish. Pretty soft and didn't feel very fresh. The fired ice cream was bad. The ice cream as rock hard and it was not good quality. So much badder, no redeamimg factor about it really. Overall, don't think I'd come back. Far too much competition for better sushi around the state. read more

First time at kabuki in Wakefield and it was during Narragansett restaurant week. The promotional menu is great because it allows for a sampling of different dishes. There is easy parking here, and the vibe inside is nice but not fancy. It's a crowd pleasing type of place. The service started off very slowly. We waited quite a while to place our order, but once we did, the food came out quickly with no further delays. And our waitress was pleasant enough. With the event menu, my husband and I were both offered soup or salad, an appetizer, entree, and fried ice cream for dessert. There was no shortage of food, but it was all just average. We both started with the salad and it came with the ginger dressing that you will find at most sushi restaurants. Not a standout, but I do always enjoy it and I know exactly what to expect from it. Next, I chose the spring rolls for my appetizer, and this was the weakest item I had. They were very oily, the batter was super thick, and the inside was mush. They reminded me of a bad frozen spring roll. My husband ordered the Rocky Shrimp, and those were pretty tasty. I liked the accompanying sauce, but they also had a thick fried batter. For our main, I ordered the Rhode Island Roll, and my husband got the Out of Control Roll. They were good/fine, but I have had better sushi around the state. The texture was odd in that they were very soft. Nevertheless, they satisfied my sushi craving. The fried ice cream dessert was also not particularly special. The ice cream was on par with a generic market brand vanilla and the heavy fried batter quickly turned soft. It was dressed up with whipped cream, chocolate and caramel drizzle, and some sprinkles, so I imagine it would appeal to a younger audience. As I said, the meal and experience was very average. Nothing standout, but nothing was awful either (except those spring rolls). Ultimately, kabuki is not somewhere I would rush back to, but if the majority of my group voted to go, then I would comply. So, it's a take it or leave it for me. But, give it a try yourself and see what you think! read more

We stopped in for take out and ended up getting the 3 combo roll lunch special and a hibachi with shrimp. My Maki Roll Lunch Special (3 rolls $16) was served with salad (or soup) was pretty good. I had 2 Boston Rolls (poached shrimp, lettuce, creamy avocado, and crunchy cucumber all wrapped in sushi rice and nori. It was good but had a bit too much mayo to be balanced. The Shrimp Tempura roll- (tempura-fried shrimp, cucumber, and lettuce, with eel sauce. ), It was ok - the shrimp tempura was overcooked which made it dry. My friend had Shrimp Hibachi dinner - $23.00 - Served with miso soup or salad, fried rice, grilled with broccoli, fresh mushroom, green & red pepper & zucchini. She said it was good, but definitely not the same flavor as having it cooked in front of you on the hibachi. I would definitely try again and try other dishes and sit inside! read more

One of the best spots for sushi and I truly think about it multiple times a week. My absolute favorite things from here are the chicken lettuce wraps, the American dream roll, veggie fried rice and the miso soup. I order the same exact thing every time I come here and it never misses. The sushi is so fresh and tasty, kind of on the more expensive side but definitely worth it. The inside is a good environment for date night/ girls night/ group dining but they also offer take out which is what I typically do. read more

I actually passed by this place a lot, but never actually tried it. I wish I tried this place earlier. I finally stopped by this place for lunch one time. It was pretty close to when they opened, so seating was wide open. I ordered scallion pancakes and sushi a la carte. Ya, scallion pancakes are not very Japanese, but I'm from Taiwan, so I will order them every time I see them, lol. These guys do it more correctly than many other restaurants. They serve it already sliced with soy sauce/vinegar/garlic dip. The scallion pancake itself had a nice crispy exterior, but still had a nice chew on the interior. A lot of other places where I've ordered scallion pancakes way overcook it to the point where the entire thing is basically just a crispy fried cracker. For sushi, I ordered a la carte; sake, hamachi, and toro. My waiter also suggested I try the uni, so I ordered that as well. I have to admit, I was very pleasantly surprised by the fish. I could've eaten entire tray fulls of the sake and hamachi. Oh, can we also note that they make these in nigiri? Thaaaaaank you!! I'm a big believer of the fact that for most sushi, nigiri is way better (and more proper) than maki. The toro...on the menu it says otoro, but I wouldn't say it was fatty enough to really be otoro. It didn't quite have that melt-in-your-mouth texture. It was still pretty tasty, although I was wishing for more of a buttery flavor and texture. The surprise for me was the uni. This place sells uni for a pretty darn reasonable price. The uni was very very good. It had a really nice texture and was sweet. Usually, if you want good uni, you'll have to paaaaaaaay for it. Cheap uni will usually be a bit slimy, have a scent of low tide, and/or be a bit bitter. This place had great uni at an amazing deal. Definitely try it. read more

Sushi is my fav, and I have been to dozens of sushi places in a dozen states. (I have been making my own for over 30 yrs when I can find the correct fish, so trust my good and bad points! The bar in this place is always hopping. I prefer the restaurant, though NOT in the back. The air-handler is off-balance and makes a horrendous thumping kind of noise. Really annoying and been that way for at least 2 years! Sushi is very good with three exceptions (1)their tobiko (red flying fish eggs) always taste old/fishy. I like tobiko nigiri sushi a lot and after many tries there, I now skip that. Also, (2)they dont brine their salmon briefly in salt/sugar which makes a HUGE difference in the flavor. That said, their salmon is just ok. And finally (3) not so much a fan of the hot tea they serve, very strong, often bitter. Their hamachi (yellowtail) is always INCREDIBLE, never disappoints and tuna is most always excellent too. Shrimp tempura rolls are very good and they have something they call a "pizza roll" thats not a roll at all, its like a 3/4" thick sandwich cut in 4 wedges, and it is to-die-for delicious! Service is very good with some continual turnover in staff. 4-5 sushi chefs make serving surprisingly fast even when busy. I know that sounds like a lot of complaints for 4 stars but they are the best near Wakefield, and I do go often. Just wish they would fix those few things then 5*s, maybe 6! read more

I have always driven by this place and have seen a filled parking lot, and now I know why. The food is excellent and served with a smile. We were greeted nicely as we entered and were seated immediately. Our server came by with water and got our drink order right away. The menu is expansive from sushi and tempura to staple Chinese food to tiramisu! Our main course came out quickly and was excellent. The menu has wonderful pictures of their desserts and why not, I wasn't quite ready to explode like a Monty Python character! Normally a picture looks better than things actually taste, this is not the case here so save room. I recommend the Coppa Cafe dessert. It might be a nice spot for a date night read more

Although I'm not Japanese, I've been to Japan, and I can assure you their food is always fresh and never upsets my stomach. The sushi here blew my mind! The wakefield roll was crunchy with a bit of spice and the ginger and wasabi elevated the roll. The painted lady was more prominently fish and the avocado added a creaminess to the whole roll. We went on a really cold day and the whole restaurant was warm and cozy. We sat near the bar and they were extremely attentive even with a ton of other people there. We got lots of recommendations and were even told about the deals they have on Mondays! We wanted to try something different, and so we drove down to southern Rhode Island to sample their cuisine. Overall, the food was just awkward. The Duck Roll appetizer had two 'empty' pieces. My dinner was Maki B in which they just mixed the tuna, salmon and yellowtail all together, rather than keeping them separate and it was not spicy at all. I had to add extra wasabi in order to make it spicy. My husband did enjoy his dinner which was a 'special' of Chicken and Vegetable Tempura as everything on the plate was fried. So I've only been here once but it was excellent. Incredibly quick service and the food was really good. If you are a big city sushi regular I could see you giving this place less stars but everything should be judged in context and for a small town by the beach this seems pretty on point. We came here with some friends who usually pick sushi restaurants when we all go out together. It was our first time at Kabuki, but they go here pretty frequently and they enjoy if mostly for their mixed drinks. The parking lot is convenient and free, and the location is just off the main road and is easy to see. Once we arrived and parked, we were seated promptly. I noticed their new menu wasn't on yelp, so I fixed that immediately. We started with drinks, I ordered some cold sake and the other couple ordered some large mixed drinks that they really liked. The menu is huge. I was taken aback at how many pages it was, and wondered how they were able to keep their quality high if they had so many different things that they could offer. We started with the rocky shrimp, some shumai, and a dimsum box. The Rocky Shrimp were really doughy and dry, the shumai were ok, and the dim sum box was disliked by the other wife and she gave it to her husband to finish. Next was the sushi. Two of us ordered rolls, and hubby ordered a nigiri set. My roll was the Wakefield, which was weirdly topped with salad which was hugely overdressed with a pungent and overwhelming dressing. The other roll was good, and hubby thought his nigiri was ok. We also tried the tamago which was underwhelming, and the miso which was pretty standard. Service was super fast, and prices pretty much reflected the overall quality of the food: middle of the road. I could see this being a great place to have some small snacks while having a few mixed drinks, but for a full dinner, this place falls pretty short in quality and overall flavor. For the average American sushi consumer however, I imagine it's considered pretty good. I will not likely be returning. read more

Duck spring rolls tasted like a veggie burger and veggie tempura was soaked with grease. Do not go here! We need to hold restaurants accountable for serving bad food. Especially sushi! Kabuki is a fabulous Japanese restaurant. The selection of menu items is extensive. You can eat sushi, hot and cold appetizers, soup, hibachi and other Asian entrees. I highly recommend stopping here on a Monday because there is an excellent half price appetizer menu. My ultimate favorite app on that menu is the Beef Nagimaki, which is served on a bed of teriyaki flavored sautéed scallions. It is absolutely bursting with flavor. The service is friendly and attentive, and the restaurant is spacious as well as immaculate. Tables are also adequately distanced. read more

We came here last night unexpectedly after being disappointed by a certain neighboring pizza place that will remain nameless. I'm actually glad the evening took this turn of events, because I was pleasantly surprised by the great experience we had at Kabuki! This is a fun and vibrant Japanese restaurant nestled off of a busy highway in suburban Wakefield, RI. It doesn't look too impressive from the outside, but inside, we found a clean and spacious restaurant with ample seating, bright neon lights, and a large sushi bar where guests can watch the chefs prepare their rolls right before their very eyes! It was late on a Tuesday night, so we were pretty much the only people here, save for a few stragglers at the bar. Service was super fast, attentive, and friendly, and our food was delivered efficiently. This was great because we were STARVING! The meal started off with some salad, which was your basic mixed greens, but the ginger dressing was flavorful, complex, and clearly homemade. I was licking the bowl afterward, that's how good it was! I also had a wonton soup, which had four juicy pork wontons floating in a too-salty broth.. it almost felt like they poured soy sauce into the soup before serving it. Luckily, the wontons themselves were tender and steamed to perfection. For entrees, we got the mango chicken (me), and the hibachi chicken (my boyfriend). The hibachi chicken was the winner of the two, with perfectly sautéed chicken enrobed in a rich, garlicky brown sauce and served with crisp grilled vegetables. I wasn't super crazy about the mango chicken, as the sauce was extremely sweet, but they do get extra points for the large chunks of ripe mango stir fried into the dish. All entrees are served with standard rice, but you can upgrade to their fried rice, which was very good. This restaurant is a bit pricy, but the quality was excellent, and we had a great time. Our dining experience here really did save the evening, which started off on the wrong foot with a disastrous trip to the pizza parlor across the way. Kabuki proves that you don't need to go into the city for quality Japanese cuisine - some of the best is right in your own backyard! read more
