Cuban Pastry

I was pleasantly surprised to find a Cuban restaurant in Williamsburg, Va. Cuban food is my favorite! I took two friends here for dinner recently. We all loved the variety of menu items and the flavors. Everything was delicious + the service was great. We ordered the K'bola Appetizer Combo, Pechuga a La Plancha, Arroz Frita K'Bola and Picadillo a la Cubana. Everything was so good. I rated this restaurant at four because of one thing- GNATS! Yes-bugs that were indoors, but belong outdoors. We had to swat away gnats during our entire meal. One of my friends killed five. She was our big zapper. I did ask the manager about the situation, which she was aware of, and told her about my friend's quickness with the gnat killing. It was quite the conversation. I'd go back here but I need to be sure the gnats are gone first.

I was in town for conference, was surprised to find a Cuban place. I stopped by to order dinner to go. I sat at the bar & got a mojito while I waited. I got arroz moro, picadillo, tostones, and some paselitos. I was surprised that my order was ready in less than 10-15 minutes. Everything was delicious! And the paselitos were the perfect size for my breakfast coffee. I'll have to visit Williamsburg more often!

So let me start out by saying my Wifes family is Canadian and has been to Cuba several times on vacation and where very impressed! I of course had to have the Cubano sandwich which was perfect. Wifey had to shrimp and the cocktails were amazing! We come to to Williamsburg alot and this maybe our new permanent stop for dinner after a W&M game!

Was in the area from Jersey and found this Cuban spot. The food took quite long and our server was a bit forgetful because w asked him for a bag and box a few times. We didn't get it until we asked another server. But the drinks while in happy hour were good. My mom had the mojito and I had the tiny margarita husband had an old fashioned- very happy with our drinks. We got croquets of chicken that looked like mozzarella sticks and they were good. I also got the shrimp in garlic sauce also very good. My husband got steak and it was pretty small and tough for the price but still had good flavor. Highlight was the drinks but the food was also good, just the service and long wait for food is what made the place less of an experience. There were other servers there that were a bit more friendly, and the outdoor seating seemed a little nice since the music was playing . We sat inside where you could barely hear any music at all.

Ordered a Cuban sandwich with a side of maduros. The food was good and authentic. However, the maduros were on the hairy edge of being overcooked. The service was prompt and the place was clean. I do wish they had better hours. 11-2 seems a bit restrictive. Overall an enjoyable experience.

The wait staff helped guide us when ordering. The food and service was amazing! We loved everything about our meal!

The experience extremely wonderful. The space is quaint with a great ambiance about it. The service was great with really good attention from the employees. The food was soooo authentic and 100% just like I have had from other locations opened and maintained from a Cuban heritage with no shortcuts!

Incredibly disappointed, I really was looking forward to a good Cuban steak sandwich but it turns out they don't have that on the menu and when I asked if they could make it I was told no. It didn't seem like an unreasonable request as they had the ingredients ... I ordered the papas rellanas and the k bola Cuban .. my husband ordered the Philly.. it was not a Philly at all! They were out of the papas rellanas probably for the best. The sandwiches come with the a side and a drink. That was nice. But .. he ordered platanos and received 3.. 3 plantains?? I got fries, they were left as you can see. How do you mess up fries? I asked for a side of green sauce- not good, very watery. My sandwich was ok but nothing special. I've definitely have had better. I would have expected better service- they weren't even busy, we were the only table in our section. Not sure how they're surviving to be honest. Gordon Ramsey needs to come help them.

Super disappointed with our experience. We had high expectations based on the reviews. Dirty utensils and then diarrhea when we got home! When we got there at 5pm there were only 2 tables occupied so we expected good service. However, the service was very slow. The shrimp/camarones were way overcooked so they were tough, dry, rubbery and shrank to little shrimps. Not worth the $24! The sampler appetizer plate $16 was just ok but the chorizo croquetas were quite disappointing since it was more of a paste texture inside and we didn't see any actual chorizo (just mashed potatoes). The Cuban sandwich was ok. Our meal was $62 (before tip) which was definitely not worth it! Such a waste of hard earned money! The food poisoning/diarrhea was the worst part of it!

We didn't know you needed a reservation to eat here but that was on us. The restaurant was busy but we were able to get a seat at the bar, which was great. The food here was some of the best food we ever had. I loved their chicken fajitas and their rice was so delicious.

The pork-extremely dry but the rice and plantains were delicious

Ate here for the first time the other evening, and would come back for the great service and for most of the food we tried as well as drinks! Drinks: Cuba Libra- A rum and coke but with lime-very good Mojito-Also delicious They have happy hours specials from 5-8 so take a look at those. Food: Started off with the appetizer of yucca fries, croquettes and empanadas. All were good and i recommend the Han croquettes and chicken empanadas. Husband loved his Cuban sandwich and the bite I had was good! He got tostones as a side and they were good. I had the pork and was not impressed! Very dry, and even the side of mojo sauce really didn't help. Would not order this! The rice and sweet plantains were delicious though. Inside the restaurant has a nice feel and comfortable seating. Large bar area. They have buzzers on the table to signal to your waiter if you need them. Also billed water is brought out for each table.

Very excited to finally have an authentic Cuban restaurant within driving distance. We had dinner after an afternoon at the outlets. Our expectations weren't very high, based on prior experiences with Cuban food in the Richmond area. But this place knocked it out of the park. --Service was friendly and attentive. --Ambiance was quaint and casual but nice enough for a date night, especially with the bar. Cool Cuban posters and framed art hung on the wall, while tiny vases of fresh flowers adorned the tables. --Drink menu looked impressive. Even the non-alcoholic options were interesting and included materva, malta, fruit juice, jarritos, and bottled coke. --Food was good, with authentic flavors and options you don't usually see in areas without a larger Cuban population. Nothing fancy but it was nice to see ajiaco, sopa de pollo, vaca frita, Cuban style salad, and Cuban pizzas on the menu. We were all really happy with what we ordered. My husband was especially pleased with the vaca frita, which he had never had before. My only complaint was that the yucca con mojo and tostones were a little bland for my taste. But the congris and main dishes were very good. I think we'll definitely be back in the future.

Are reservations required?

No, reservations aren't required. It's not a big place, so if you want to ensure to have a table, it's highly recommended.

Do any sides come with entrees?

Yes - I had the option to choose from their sides.

The fresh catch meal included a simple house salad, and it took 30 minutes for the salad to arrive. Shortly after the salad arrived, our meals came out, and they were lukewarm. I had the grilled mahi mahi with lemon dill butter over some roasted fingerling potatoes and corn. While the fish itself was a nice piece and well prepared, its not-quite-warm temperature made it less appetizing to eat. The same was true for our other meals: the seafood pot pie and the mahi mahi fish tacos. While our waitress offered to have them all reheated, we both didn't have time as we had theatre tickets and reheating the tacos with their toppings, the pot pie with its pastry crust, and the seared fish didn't sound appealing. The restaurant's dining room was comfortable, and the bar area looked vibrant. Hopefully they are still breaking in their new facility, as we liked dining with them in their previous location.

We went on a Sunday afternoon at 3 PM and were promptly seated. The atmosphere was fine, pretty open and unexceptional, but modern and new. Big screen in front of us playing the Sunday football game. Server was quick to get drink orders in, 12 oz. Commonwealth Modern 'Smores stout for $8 and my wife got a $16 Peppermint Espresso Martini. I appreciated the nice Commonwealth stout and the price was fine. The Peppermint Espresso martini was mediocre and very overpriced considering that. Our food took a long time. Like 3 apologies from the server long. There were 2 parties of like 10 that were in process when we sat so I get it. But I do feel like something should be given when it's 45 minutes plus on food. Anyway, on to the food.... My kid is not much of an eater and they did not have any type of kid menu. Ended up with a soft pretzel for $13. Add cheese fondue and it's $16. It was very big and delicious.... At $16 it's hard to be excited about it though. The cheese fondue definitely made the pretzel. I was not overly hungry and got She crab soup $8.50 for the cup and a Caesar salad $5. The soup was good, they add the crab on top so you can see they give you about half a cup and for the price it was good. Definitely not the best she crab soup in the area, but good enough. Caesar was just croutons, Parmesan and dressing and was fine. My wife got the "fresh catch" Chilean Sea Bass for $33. It was kind of fishy tasting. Fresh fish is rarely fishy. It was overcooked, horribly plated and the blackened seasoning had minimal flavor. It was bad. We asked for some tarter for it and it made it tolerable. The server offered to replace it, but having just waited 45 minutes for food we weren't going to chance something else, particularly since we were with another couple. While we were waiting I had 2 $3 special Budweisers and my wife had a $14 Snowflake Margarita. They were all fine. My kids sprite was $4 which feels outrageous, but I don't know what places are charging these days for sodas. I normally don't pay attention. Bill came with another apology for all the waiting and no discount. Tough to make it as a seafood restaurant when you are struggling with your seafood. I heard their seafood nachos are excellent.... Maybe I'll give them another chance for those. My first experience was not a good one.

Exceptional! Our server Jaedin was terrific. We were there for a Monday lunch, can't speak to the dinner service. We also weren't drinking alcohol that day, though I thought the beer flights looked tempting. One of us had a cheeseburger that was requested to be "pink" and was overcooked and just blah. One of us had a chicken salad that was served with no chicken. Someone from the kitchen rushed out with a soup bowl filled with chicken slices that looked like those Perdue rotisserie chicken slices you buy at the grocery store. Dumped them on the salad. She did apologize. Our third order was a Restaurant Week special fried oyster salad vouched for by our server, Bailey, who was pleasant and efficient. It came with corn, black beans, mixed greens, cotija cheese and a spicy dressing. It wasn't awful but I think the overall concept was weird. Fried oyster taco salad? The few oyster pieces were tasty. Maybe we were there on a bad day, which happens. The chicken salad fiasco was funny. Not a place I would drive across town to try twice. Maybe stick to burgers and plenty of beer.

There's a small selection of can drinks including alcoholic ones, tea, soda, water. I liked that they stock Sly Clyde's cider from Hampton. Not sure sharp objects and alcohol is the best idea but everyone seemed to be behaving responsibly. We were escorted to some bays that had two lanes next to each other and then separated by a fence before two more open lanes. We were given a safety brief at the lanes with people in two other lanes and some instructions on how to throw. Don't pass axes by hand, put them in the return box. Different styles of how to throw. Thankfully we had the full bay to ourselves since so one was in the open bay next to us. We played for 75 min which was a comfortable amount of time. They also have a knife throwing option which we didn't select. There's some seating available near the throwing area for non players. Each bay has a standing bar with two backless metal seats. I was able to throw comfortably with a walking boot on for a sprained ankle. I appreciated that since I didn't even think of that before reserving a space. I was nervous at first but managed to do ok with the over head two hand throw. The bay attendant didn't check on us after bringing our pretzel bites and so it didn't seem necessary to tip for service. We were able to get an additional score cards on the way to the snack area and that is where you close out your tab for your outing. The kiosk offers a tip option so maybe they share with the attendants. I talked with a friend who had been there previously and she said the booth attendant asked for a tip when she went and that was off putting. That wasn't our experience though. Overall we spent just over $100 for our date night. While there is snacky food available, it's not the type of place you are going for dinner and fun. Get a meal before or after somewhere else.
