I came to get lunch to go after visiting a church in town . The service was good and friendly. Ambiance is the typical cafeteria experience with booths and a buffet style line. The food was a disappointment. There was a good selection but all the meats looked overcooked and not fresh. However, the vegetables looked good and tasted good. My chopped steak was dry. The cashier charged me for a drink although I didn't order one then she had trouble subtracting it on the cash register. She had to flag down her manager which had me waiting for 10 minutes! First of all the service was great! The food was very disappointing! I never complain about food but I did request a refund. Country style steak: the gravy felt like jelly in my mouth and had a weird taste. Mashed potatoes: I couldn't taste since it was smothered in the gravy Mac and cheese: no flavor at all. We have held meetings at K & W in Burlington for many years and always serve dessert and a drink during these meetings. The food can be hit or miss at times and the place definitely shows its age but you can't beat the service from two servers who've been there FOREVER, Jody and Renee. They always know what's going on and are great at helping us make our meetings successful by serving those desserts that are still yummy and a cup of coffee or tea to our members The current general manager, Joe, is also great and is so very helpful to us with the bookings. I used to absolutely love K&W Cafeteria when visiting the Greensboro area, but this recent visit was disappointing. They were minimally staffed, workers appeared stressed out, and they didn't have many food items available. They also had very few salads available - no 7 layer salad, which is my favorite. First off, let me say that I LOVE K&W. Unfortunately, since the pandemic, they are impossible to find and when you do, it seems the standards have gone down . . . Significantly! I went today with great anticipation and got one of my favorites - turkey with dressing and Mac and cheese and cabbage. Let me just say the cabbage was the best part! The dressing was so salty, I could t eat it. When I was leaving, I noticed the 85 sanitation grade, which explained the way the food looked. Normally I would have gotten mashed potatoes but they were a bit brown and shall we say, questionable. Everyone there was extremely nice and friendly, but when you are going someone to eat, the food has to be decent. Unfortunately, I won't be going back to this K&W. read more

WOW! Went to the K&W in Burlington today and was super surprised at some of the changes. I got chicken parm. Not only was it delicious but on Monday they have a special. Main dish, 2 veggies, bread, drink and dessert for two was only 23.99! Best part was we had our favorite host, Renee Stewart so our service was EXCELLENT! Worst service ever! Foodies beware. No fountains drinks, but instead of them telling you they charge you. Sweet tea had no sweet, had to get my own drink bc the waitress-Tabitha never came back! no onions for my pinto beans even though I was told it was, never would've gotten them. Tabitha went to go cut up some, came bk after cleaning tables to say there are none. Ask for a manager-Joe who came to the table with the nastiest shirt on in the world, I explained and asked to remove my drink$2.99 and pinto beans he says "why would I do that" then he reaches over my plate to grab receipt with an attitude, then he says he didn't know drinks were out, you are the manager!! Chose to go to K&W Cafeteria in Burlington NC for Thanksgiving instead of cooking this year and my visit was the worst ever as far as my meal of Turkey dressing w/gravy & cranberry sauce and collards. The Turkey/dressing was lukewarm warm, the collards were tough the sweet potato casserole was dry as +*^# . My daughter ate ham & chicken breast strips, cabbage and she said the cabbage was nasty, but she's a kid, I know they didn't look appealing that's why I changed to collard. I remember when it would be a line 3 lines wrapped around inside now when you go regardless what time it is you just walk right in and get in line with NO waiting. Business there have fallen off really badly. I had to put my food in a box to take home to heat and then eat. Think That might be our last $30. Spent There. read more

Well... it was.... A cafeteria. You can't expect much from these places, and I understand that but my goodness the food was just terrible. Mac and cheese was watery and bland, fish was nice and crispy but mushy on the inside, they don't refrigerate sauces and when I tasted the tarter sauce I wanted to throw up. Needless to say it did go right through me. The service was great they took the mac and cheese off the menu when I complained but I think the meal should have been free with how sick I got. Our waitress was Renne and she was a total sweet heart the woman who was checking us out was also really nice and assured us, the food being bad wasn't in our head. The smell of the bathroom seems to roll into the dining area. I feel bad for the little old woman who had to serve me, she had to be at least 80 years old doing the job of 3 people. We eat here regularly but unfortunately we have seen roaches in the dining room and on the serving line. One was actually crawling around the salad bar. Had to leave immediately. Today, while dining, decided to use the restroom. Was utterly disgusted to have witnessed an employee by the name Annette, the one that cuts the cake and pies leave restroom without washing hands..Please dont eat here. When I alerted the manager about the situation, she mentioned she would take care of it. And that it was the end of Annettes shift,so she was leaving. What in the world did that matter? Ate at the Burlington location on 12-1-2023. The girl at the end of the serving line had a very bad attitude and found it impossible to say "Thank You." She printed out our food ticket and just handed it to my wife with the very obvious attitude that she just didn't want to be there. Manager was sitting at a table in the dining room and was notified but done absolutely nothing about it. He even watched her treat the customers in that manner. Not sure what is going on because the food has been good in the past but on 11/14 it was terrible! Got the spaghetti after seeing the country style stack looking old and not fit to eat. The spaghetti was served off a pan that had been sitting behind the serving line so it was cold and not fit to eat. Got to the deserts and there were only 4 choices and what was there was about half what you normally get and looked like it had been thrown on the plates. I frequent this location with my grandmother for take out. She likes the food here because they pretty much cater to the much more mature of age crowd (old people for those who are like, "huh?") who have ailments like high blood pressure and diabetes. So, the food is often lacking seasonings. It's buffet/cafeteria style dining, so there is a pretty decent variety. They also offer choices of dinner rolls/bread, and desserts. When I go here, I usually get the chocolate creme pie, jello, and soft roll (yeast roll). I don't actually eat the food because as much seasoning that is required to please my taste buds, I may as well just cook dinner myself. 2 stars because the chocolate pie is bomb. The place is usually clean, the staff keeps lines down (staff attitudes are usually lukewarm at best), and the price is reasonable. Just don't come here if you expect soul food throwdown for the low. read more

I like the choices you have at a cafeteria and the food at the K&W in Burlington is good. It is always clean and the staff is very friendly. My family enjoys the variety of meats and vegetables offered. If you do not enjoy good Southern home cooking, then this may not be the place for you. If you like fried okra and country style steak with rice, or broccoli with cheese sauce and roast beef, or fried chicken and mashed potatoes with gravy, this might be your place. The country style steak is always my choice. My dad likes the chicken pan pie (it is made in a pan). My wife (God bless her, she is a Yankee) usually gets some kind of chicken and a salad. The vegetables are on the long cooked side, but most of the southern favorites are there. Cabbage, black eyed peas, fried okra... The desserts are usually pretty good as well. It is a cafeteria after all, you get a tray and silverware. You walk down a line and someone places what you ask for on plates for you. It is not a fancy place, but if you are eating with two or three generations and don't mind not having table service give it a try. read more

I like the cafeteria style format, it's very different from the Maryland, D.C, and Virginia area dining style. There are many options to choose from. I chose the turkey with dressing, mac&cheese, string beans, sweet potato soufflé and jello. Everything was tasty with the exception of the Mac & cheese. It lacked flavor and the texture was creamy and not cheesy. I expected more from a southern restaurant. Other than that the experience was great. The staff are very friendly and accommodating.
