We tried dinner at Cagney's this week -- a friendly and welcoming restaurant -- and a new place for us. The menu offered a variety of dishes with personal favorites among the choices. A couple of family members joined us there. Both ordered plates of shrimp and grits and enjoyed them, as well as two side dishes that accompanied the entrees -- especially the deep fried "blooming " onion. Although my order of Greek salad was fresh and tasty, the added chicken proved tough and gristly. (However, it could have simply been a bad day for grilled chicken.) My husband, who is currently undergoing cancer treatments, ordered several dishes of vegetables but was feeling so badly when our meals arrived, he was unable to eat. This is when Cagney's began to shine -- service. Service is near the top of our review checklist, and can make or break any dining experience. Our waitress, Chloe, was (and, I believe, is) gold. Although a busy evening with a "full house," she waited on us quickly, got our order straight on the first try and updated us twice on one item coming out of the kitchen a few minutes after everything else. She checked on us from time to time and noticed my husband's fading energy. She noticed that he left the restaurant to relax in the car while we finished our meal. She asked if I might like to take his meal, which remained untouched, with me. When she returned with the take-home container, she had written a personal message on the lid and offered kind words and a warm hug for me. The next day, my husband asked me to warm his leftover meal so that he could have it for lunch. He said it was delicious. That alone is worth a great review. Add in Chloe, and dining at Cagney's was stellar. read more

I've tried a few different things from Cagney's Kitchen over time--like their country steak with gravy and rice, and some of their sandwiches--but nothing compares to their breakfast. Hands down, they have the BEST sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit. The biscuit itself is perfect--soft, buttery, and consistent every single time. Whatever they're doing, they should never change that recipe. The sausage is super flavorful, and they give you two patties. At first, it feels like it might be too much... but somehow, by the end, it's exactly the right amount (because yes, I finish it every time). I always add strawberry jelly, and that sweet-and-savory combo with the salty sausage, melty American cheese, fluffy eggs, and buttery biscuit is just chef's kiss. 10/10. This is my go-to order, and I will always recommend their sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit. read more

Cagneys Kitchen is a nice little spot close to Guilford College here in Greensboro. The inside is very spacious and the walls are painted with nice little landscapes. Although they did have a lot of tables being used my friend and I were taken to a table quickly. Once we got the menu we saw that breakfast was served all day and they had a huge variety of options on the menu! After a while of contemplating what I wanted I finally decided that I wanted the popcorn shrimp. I could either get 2 sides or one side and a salad. I decided to go with the salad, which was super yummy. Once I got my plate I was surprised how good it was. The shrimp had a good taste, the mac and cheese was also very flavorful and wasn't too cheesy for me. My plate also had hushpuppies which I didn't came with the plate. Overall I would say my experience at Cagney's was great! Our server Yesenia was super kind, helpful, and attentive. I'll definitely be back to explore more of their menu! read more

There are plenty of these locations around, but this review is specifically for this location off W Friendly Ave. The server was friendly and was quick to get our order. The food came out hot and everything tasted amazing, eggs were as requested. Turkey bacon was crisp, but not burnt and the biscuit was buttery and delicious. Hash browns were cooked to my liking not greasy and cooked well. Great experience here all in all. read more

The atmosphere was nice. Family friendly. The sign describes it well "a hidden gem". I ordered fish and shrimp. My daughter got a pancake and a side of green beans (weird combination I know but I'm big on eating veggies ) and my sister got The Filler Up breakfast and a lasagna to go. The fish and shrimp and slaw.....delicious!!!! Crispy and flavored nicely. The slaw was a tad salty but it balanced out with bites of fish. I wasn't a fan of the collard greens, they were slightly crunchy so the waitress allowed me to switch them out for stewed apples. Yummy! Ate there Sunday. Staff always friendly. Ordered a "3 egg" omelet. It was more like ONE egg. My husband had fries, collards and cabbage....his food was not hot. He ate it anyway bc we had a long wait. Please make sure food is hot next time and the omelet is 3 eggs as listed. read more

After a long absence I decided to come for dinner and expected it to be full, but it wasn't and I was seated immediately. The server was at the table quickly to take my drink order. When she returned I ordered popcorn shrimp with Mac 'n Cheese and coleslaw. The food was out in a timely manner. I noticed the serving staff was very attentive to the customers and clearing tables. One only complaint was that they used cloths to wipe the tables and used the same cloth to clean the seats, which they usually did first. I appreciate restaurants that use the one-use wipes and do the table before the chairs. Overall the dining room was kept clean. read more

I decided I wanted to try something new where I had never been before, so I found this place. I decided to invite my friends to come with me. I got there before they did, so I just sat in my car waiting for them to arrive. As I sat there, I did notice a lot of elderly people walk in. I found that interesting, so I was even more intrigued to go in. When one of my friends got there, we decided to go ahead and walk in to get a table and look at the menu. we were seated immediately. It was super cold. The vibe gave me K&W without the line to pick your food options. I understood why older people seemed to like it. I am hardly ever cold, but it was super cold. It could've just been the area we sat in. As we looked over the menu, we tried to also look around to see what the food would look like. Everyone seemed to have pot pie. I would assume because it's good and on the deal list. When my other friend arrived, her and her son glanced over the menu, and we were ready to order. We did ask the server about a few items before confirming our choices. The server gave her suggestions and was happy to answer our questions. I wish I had asked more about the beef tips, which is what I ordered. Our food came out in a timely manner. Everything came out in large portions. My friend's son gobbled down his burger, enjoying it. She enjoyed hers as well but couldn't finish due to the size. My other friend enjoyed her meal as well, except the mac and cheese. It didn't have any flavor and was just bland. It was what I expected, but had hopes it would be better. I got the beef tips that came with rice and 2 sides. I was excited because beef tips is one of my favorite meals. When I tried it, something was off. I couldn't put my finger on it. I continued to eat it to figure out what was wrong. Along with it, I got the mac and cheese, cornbread and a baked potato. The mac and cheese was bland. The cornbread was good, and the baked potato was good. Something just tasted so off about the beef tips. I asked the server if they make the beef tips with gravy or something else because it tasted like the sauce you get in canned ravioli. She did say it was some tomato-based sauce, and I was so thrown off. WHO DOES THAT?! I had never heard of that, only beef tips with gravy. I guess I should've asked before I ordered, but I never heard of that. I decided to just keep it and push through with eating it at a later time. So, I got a to go box to put it in and take home. I asked for a side of gravy, hoping it would make it better. She did warn me that it would be a $1 upcharge. I didn't care as long as it made the meal better. She brought out the box and the gravy. I opened the gravy and was so thrown off again. It was so thick it looked like jello. I tried it, and it tasted like flour. I was just ready to go at that point, so I didn't say anything. We got our checks, and the I saw that I was charged $1.99 instead of $1. I probably should've just sent the whole thing back, but I felt it was too late since I tried to stomach through. I really feel like their food can be good, but I would like to give them another chance. read more

Cagney's Kitchen and Pizzeria is a local diner chain that just opened an outpost in what is by and large an industrial and office section of Greensboro near the airport. I personally had never been to any of the Cagney's that were spotted across the Triad, and after seeing a good chunk of people leave 5 star reviews for this location, had to see if I was missing out on something. Well, I ended up strangely coming twice in pretty quick succession. The second time wasn't planned, but we were on a time crunch and in the area, and the place we wanted to go was temporarily closed helping out in High Point for furniture market. This was close by. I'll say this, the place is clean and attractive on the inside. Somehow even though it has only been open a few months, there is already a waitress that has been working there 30 years and seen it all. There's also "old-timers" talking about when the newspaper used to be delivered twice a day, and how young people are strange to them. Classic. First visit was by myself, I was in the mood for just a standard meat and three kind of dinner, and I ordered their meatloaf special which comes with mashed potatoes, a roll, and two additional sides. This was easily the best thing obtained across both visits. The meatloaf was a nice chunk, not dry, and the mashed potatoes were good with a nice scoop. I chose lima beans and fried okra as the other two sides, and both I would get again. I wish I had just stopped there, but it wasn't to be. I had to place a to go order for someone else, and this was testing the "and Pizzeria" part of their name. I was kind of wary of that going in, but risked it anyway. It was a pepperoni and sausage stromboli. Upon getting it home and slicing the end of it off to have a bite, it was quickly apparent that it was Raw on the inside. Just pizza dough. Only the outside had cooked and the cheese was melted. Pic of it attached, but we ended up having to cut it open and re-bake it. At this point, it was fine, but not something we'd get again. On our second, unplanned, stop, it was for lunch and we just wanted sandwiches. An Italian was ordered, and a Carolina burger. The person with the Italian did not enjoy it, and didn't finish it. I had the Carolina burger, and the first thing I noticed was there was no cheese on it. Turns out, that's how it is listed in the menu, so I guess that's my fault... but never in my life have I encountered a Carolina burger without cheese. They brought me some shredded cheddar (and charged me for it). The patty itself was cooked fine, but perfectly round with vertical sides, so chances are good it was a frozen patty. The chili... man, I don't think I can classify it that way. It tasted like "meat sauce" and seemed like what they'd otherwise put on their spaghetti, it was sweet. I ended up scraping it off. So overall, this is not a place we'd come back to. If I did, it would be for the classic meat and three style dishes, or maybe for a basic breakfast. I would also say that for the food quality, the value was not there. It should be cheaper. read more

Cagney's is a (much needed!) new restaurant in GSO out Friendly near W Market. This area in particular was in dire need of another dining option so the location is spot on. My mom and I went for lunch on Saturday around noon and it wasn't too busy at all. The restaurant itself is super clean, very nice inside. It's really open and bright. The menu is HUGE! Something for everyone! All sorts of cuisines. I went safe and ordered the Cagney's Club. It's (supposed to be) compiled of both turkey and ham, along with other traditional makings of a club sandwich. I didn't notice until I was a few bites in that my sandwich was missing the turkey, and my mom's was missing the ham. It wasn't a huge deal, but I definitely missed the turkey. Probably just an anomaly and could have happened if the sandwiches are made in an assembly line? Either way I won't hold this against them, I could have mentioned it but it wasn't worth bothering the waitress over. I'm pretty easy going, if that wasn't obvious :P. Overall, the food was good. The fries are also tasty. I'll go back here for sure and look forward to trying some of their other options. I also don't mind making the drive over (it's a bit out of the way for me, but I think worth it). I'd recommend checking it out! read more

We stopped by after flying into Greensboro. I had spaghetti with meat sauce off the senior menu. The spaghetti was over cooked and the sauce was sweet and had a tast of cinnamon. More like a chili than Italian. If I'm having Cinncinnati chili, bring the cheese and crackers, Daughters ordered shrimp and grits with a salad and banana pudding. She enjoyed the main dish and salad was a tomato slice with the stem end included (no stem) and lots of shredded lettuce, meh. The banana pudding was good but the dream whip on top was not. Other daughter ordered a chopped steak and fries and she liked that. Service was good, but the menu is so extensive, it's hard to do any one item great. read more

First time trying this new restaurant in Greensboro. I've heard of this chain outside of here in Winston and Kernersville so my expectations were high. I'm excited to say they exceeded my expectations. My guilty pleasure has always been meatloaf. Any time I see it on a menu I have to try it. Of course that is what I will rave about as I can honestly say it's the best I've had since eating at Hillbilly Hideaway. Cooked nicely that it didn't taste dry or as if it was under a heat lamp for the entire day. The gravy with my mashed potatoes was delicious. It was a hearty brown gravy that complimented the savory flavors in the potatoes and meatloaf. The other items I had were a greek calzone, spaghetti, chicken and dumplings, fried pickles, and roasted potatoes. All the items were delicious and well prepared. My family was all smiles as they devoured this food. Service was exceptional with friendly staff and a very clean restaurant. Couldn't ask for better service. read more

Wonderful local place to eat when we were staying in Greensboro on our way to Emerald Isle, NC. Great for families with all of the menu choices. I could have made a meal of just sides! Breakfast is served all day, too. Service was great and everyone was friendly, making sure we had a great meal. Our waitress was so sweet. A casual ambiance, with roomy tables, again great for a family. There were just two of us, but we want to come back with the whole family, when we stop in Greensboro this summer. I have eaten here 50 plus times with family, friends, and business. Always great service and tasty food. It is wide open and plenty of space for conversation. Jacqui generally waits on us being a super great server with a great perspective on the menu. The food has always been excellent. Other than liver /onions (which my Brother raves about) I have seen or tried much of what's on the menu. They recently introduced a Philly Cheese Skillet and it is what I live for in dining. Hamburgers very good and the Monterey Chicken is a crowd pleaser along with the chicken pie. I would encourage you to come for the service and stay for the food! read more

This place is worth the drive!!! Every time I look it up it's always 15-18 minutes away from me being in Greensboro already. They have daily specials, delicious Hot food, great service and an awesome atmosphere! The Chix Pot Pie is huge, and cooked to order. The Burger and fries were delish, definite hit!! We have had Beef tips, cube steak, greens, fried Okra, rice and gravy, side salad. Everything I'm guessing is a MUST HAVE! Hope to try the Italian side some day soon! read more

Went back for another shot as we do like the staff and the fact that they serve bfast all day. The prices here are reasonable and appropriate for the quality of food and flavor profiles. We ordered, waffle, bacon, Reuben, club and Stromboli. The waffle is a 4 out of 5 and the bacon was cooked perfect. We liked the Reuben and would suggest stacking the meat a little more even if you up-charge for another dollar. The club was a bit underwhelming as the bread wasn't toasted and the meat tasted and looked like prepackaged store bought? Board head brands or similar would up the quality on day one. Deli Stromboli was different than most other Italian Stromboli's and probably could have used a little more cheese. Service was great as always. Space is open and very clean. We'd go back as we're still trying to determine what menu items are unique, flavorful and signature to this place.. I do think it's a really safe bet to just grab breakfast here such as eggs, bacon, hash browns, coffee, etc. read more

Old school dining at reasonable prices. The food reminds me of family diners from the 80's/90's or upscale cafeteria food, but with a plethora of options. I've never had a bad meal here. The staff is wonderfully helpful and you can tell they want to do a good job. The restaurant is always clean. Tables are bused while you eat, which is a rarity now. This speaks volumes about a business and it's obvious management sets a high bar/is active in daily operations. read more

Truly disappointed. I have eaten at the WS location for decades. Last night I ordered flounder-but what I got was either whiting or cod. The manager refused to replace my meal with actual flounder, insisting this was "a different kind of flounder." Never again. Charged me flounder prices for cheap fish. read more
