Neat little spot! Kind of overlooked, but had great food. Had a good Cajun bowl and tasted my husband's pasta with a vodka sauce. Both very tasty!! The waitress was very friendly and attentive. May have to save room for dessert next time, they seemed to have some good options!

I've passed by this spot many times, but this was my first time visiting. We were immediately greeted with a warm welcome when we walked through the door. Asked if we were dining in or taking to go, we were told we could take a seat anywhere, and the waitress quickly came out to tell us about the spot, and the specials they were currently offering. She told us it is a family owned spot and the chef makes many of the sauces from scratch. We looked through the menu, they have a variety of soups, salads, sandwiches and rotating entrees. Struggling to settle on one item, my wife and I decided to share the Penne a la vodka sauce and a Cajun Grill Chicken bowl. The food came out pretty quickly, and the looked and smelled great. The smells were a good indicator, as we began eating we realized it tasted just as good as it smelled! This food was great, but I definitely enjoyed the penne the most. The sauce was delicious! Basil is a true gem, and a spot I'm wishing I had tried sooner. We would certainly recommend this to anyone looking for a good "home cooked" meal. The staff was incredibly friendly from the moment we walked in to the time we left. We will certainly return.

    He is our corporate chef!

Freddie and his team rocks ! Great atmosphere and great food . Please come try them . They will be glad to see you!

So check this out... we stumbled upon this place based on an article I found listing the best diner/cafe/restaurant in each of the 50 cities/towns in NC... and this was listed as the one for High Point... so we went after a trip to the Market first for the cake slices we are obsessed with.. this place is small and unassuming from outside. DO NOT PASS IT BY!!! STOP!!!! Moving along.. reading the article about this small sleeper hit, and then reading reviews, we were stopping-- period. We entered into a small, empty space with an extremely friendly, smiling, cashier who greeted us promptly and made us feel very welcomed right away. She asked if we would be dining in and seemed a little bummed we were ordering to go. Next time we will be eating in. ** We started drooling reading the features but I also knew I wanted soup so asked what their soups were. She eagerly offered us samples of the bean and bacon, and the tomato basil (they always have this one) and with one tiny sip, we both looked right at each other with huge eyes! This is DELICIOUS!! Both of them!! Packed full of perfect flavor! If this was just the soup, we couldn't wait to try everything else! I love both of those soups, and at Basil?--They are THE BEST EVER! Go NOWHERE else for tomato or bean soup! Nowhere!!! My ancestors can't even touch the flavor packed in here! We both chose the beef kabobs on rice with the collards on the side. We then also both got a bowl of soup--- one of each because the samples blew us away! We were SO eager, we also ordered sandwiches to go for our road trip the next morning. I ordered the Italian and he ordered the Old Fashioned Club. We spent some time hanging out and chatting at the counter. The cashier was just lovely and we felt welcome and like we were with an old friend. She shared with us they are open evenings and serve lunch and dinner. Based on the soup alone we told her we would be back next week. We got home. I devoured that bowl of tomato basil. Actually inhaled it. Drank it. Wanted more. Best tomato soup ever made and has no milk in it. True tomato soup. Not a creamy one. Absolutely delicious. He bit into the greens first. "HOLY SH%^! He put his FOOT IN THESE!!!" Was all I heard So I had to try them. They were AMAZING! SOOOO GOOD! Couldn't stop and devoured those too! Next was the meat on the kabob. Him: "OMG THIS GUY CAN COOK HIS A$$ OFF!" Sorry, but yes, these were the words on the flavor and the tenderness of this beef! Seasoned perfectly, cooked perfectly, perfectly tender. Not overpowered or under seasoned. Just right! The veggies on the kabob the same! The rice was also cooked perfectly and perfectly complimented the meat and veggies. Absolutely delicious. The next day-- we had stored our sandwiches in the fridge overnight for our road trip. Half way to Orlando we pulled them from the cooler... I couldn't wait. Even after being in the fridge and knowing the bread wouldn't be as soft as when they were fresh made, HOLY COW!! Again, the FLAVOR!!! The sauce on the Italian is fire!!!! Every single thing we had is absolutely delicious! The flavors!!! Again!' The flavors! This is true chef work and is now going to be a weekly staple for us! Don't walk, don't bike, DRIVE FAST to this place! Try everything! Sample the soup! It's AMAZING!!!!! Check in on yelp for a free drink while waiting for your food! Eat in! Support local! Take it home who cares! Just go ORDER!!! They also have fresh made desserts that look just as amazing and we will try those next week! The strawberry tres leches was tugging at my heartstrings! It's up next! They have a regular menu of sandwiches, soups, a cafe variety. But also the daily specials for entrees and the desserts! Lots of options to choose from. Just go!! Now!!!!

Basil Cafe is an excellent local gem in High Point, and really deserves to have some more attention! Located at the corner of Lexington Ave and Johnson street, it's just a block off the main drag, set back enough to be more quiet but easily accessible. The parking lot is smallish, but for the size of the place (about 10 tables with a lot of take-out business) it's more than sufficient. I ventured in recently seeking a warm home cooked meal, and also curious about their veggie selections thinking about soups or salads. I'm not vegan or even vegetarian, just trying to make a more concerted effort to eat a little less meat. They offer a nice stir-fry bowl over rice where you can go veggies, or add protein for incremental upcharges depending on type. I went with just the veggies, and for checking in on Yelp and showing it to the cashier, I was given a free tea! Gotta love that. I took a seat, and in about 10 minutes my bowl came out piping hot. It was very attractive to the eyes, featuring a generous helping of multi colored peppers, broccoli, carrots, and onion served over a nice pile of seasoned white rice. The veggies were not mushy, still slightly crisp, but with nice seared edges. The teriyaki sauce was not applied too heavily, just enough sweetness to keep it interesting. I watched as other more protein focused dishes came out to other tables, and truly, looks like the kind of place that can execute most anything well. My meal was excellent, the service was attentive and kind (cashier also operates as waiter for the small space) and you could see there is a lot of love poured into this small business. I look forward to going back for another meal soon!

The food was amazing and the service is top notch! They have daily chef specials along with their regular menu. If you haven't tried them, you are missing out!

    Pesto chicken flatbread

(4.25 stars) This small spot at Lexington and Hamilton has all the makings of a sleeper hit. It's clean, cozy, and more spacious than it appears from the outside. While the menu is somewhat limited and a bit basic (sandwiches and wraps include the usual culprits), the daily specials (which extend to entrees and desserts) show more flair. Prices are affordable, and Sherry, the owner, is friendly and upbeat. For my first visit, I took a chicken pesto flatbread and cherry cobbler (both daily specials) to go and was not disappointed. The flatbread (chicken, pesto, tomatoes, onion, and mozzarella) was excellent: tasty pesto, juicy chicken, melty cheese, and fresh flavors all around. The cherry cobbler, while less memorable, was still quite satisfying. All told, Basil Café is a very promising lunch option that should not be overlooked.

    Daily specials

We arrived for dinner about 8:15-they close at 9:00. Great and friendly service-no concerns about the time. The menu has varied choices from sandwiches to lasagna to stew. A big chocolate chip cookie was my appetizer. It was soft and crunchy. I had the Latin stew with collard greens Large portion of Short ribs with celery and yucca along with The tomato-y base. The dense flavoring-so good. My husband had the baked wings-plain-they were served hot(temp)-he enjoyed them. We will be back!

This review is for Fig & Olive Mediterranean Deli, the counter/stall inside Stock + Grain Assembly,…read morethe food hall next to Truist Point, the baseball stadium/soccer field in downtown High Point. It's not to be confused with Fig and Olive Cafe in Greensboro. Fig & Olive is new to Stock + Grain. It opened last month, July 2025. Stock + Grain opened in early 2022. The food hall has really filled in since then. We visited for dinner before a Carolina Core soccer game and the place was packed. My wife and I were drawn to Fig & Olive's menu. We wanted something light and relatively healthy. They sell sandwiches and bowls, priced at $11 to $18.50 each. We both got the Portofino Bowl for $16.50 each. It comes with baby arugula, soppressata, bresaola, marinated artichoke hearts, shaved pecorino romano, fresh lemon, and extra virgin olive oil. The bowls/salads were presented nicely. One of our friends commented that they looked "delightful." Unfortunately, the bowls looked better than they tasted. They were unbalanced and hard to enjoy. We were unable to finish them. While the portion sizes were decent, I was working/chewing through a lot of dense, cured meat. There wasn't any dressing except for the EVOO (which I'm not sure we even noticed) and some lemon wedges. Overall, the bowls weren't that flavorful. They felt incomplete. The quality of the ingredients was fine, though. They give you a pager so you know when to pick up your order. When I went to pick up our bowls, they made a mistake and only prepared one bowl instead of two. I let them know and later, the cashier brought my bowl directly to where we were sitting. She was polite and apologetic. No big deal to me. It looked like there were only two people working and they were busy. Given how new this place is and the appealing menu, I'd be willing to give it another shot. Maybe they were still working some kinks out and/or we ordered the wrong thing. Fig & Olive is certainly a nice addition to Stock + Grain's lineup. According to Fig & Olive's page on Stock + Grain's website, the business is "a social enterprise" of Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC's Providence program where "all efforts and profits support workforce development programs." Great casual atmosphere, the staff have really come into their own, and the food is simple but has little touches that often make it a small cut above most other sports bar type places around. My favorite things to order are the smashburgers, chicken philly (almost as good as the one at Old Town, a restaurant also belonging to this same owner), and now the fish and chips. I decided to get those last night, and the fish was two good size thick cod filets, fried and breaded perfectly. The fish was flaky and tender, the remoulade it came with really elevated it, I'm glad it was not plain tartar sauce (gross). The appetizer favorite here is the pulled pork nachos for me, otherwise, we usually just get meals. If I had one small complaint, it's that the tea is usually brewed pretty weak. However, our experience fell short upon arrival. The hostess said they don't have a table for 5 but we could add a chair to a 4 top. And when I said that's not a comfortable or reasonable set up for 5 people and asked if we could push two tables together, she seemed annoyed. Who thinks it's acceptable for a party of 5 to sit someone at the corner point of a 4 top table when there are open tables all around? I stopped by a little before noon on a Friday to find the establishment very busy, a testament to Alexandria's loyal following. As much as I wanted to like this place, however, it just didn't strike me as anything special. Positives first: Alesha is a friendly and welcoming presence, and the staff here seem hard-working and personable. Though the menu is fairly limited, several items - a crostini and a spinach/hummus/red pepper/quinoa wrap - held appeal. I ultimately went with the day's special, an Italian sandwich. It took a while to arrive, but given how busy - and new - the bistro was, I'm inclined to cut them some slack. While the sandwich featured a good amount of meat, it was oddly sweet due to the choice of pepper. Banana peppers and a dash of oregano would have been a welcome remedy. Like a few of the other sandwich offerings, the Italian clocked in at $12 with a bag of chips included. Some of the salads reached ambitiously into the teens. I may need to give Bistro 1605 another shot after they are fully up to speed at their new location, but initial impressions suggest a place that will serve you neither a bad lunch (and there is something to be said for that consistency alone) nor a particularly memorable one.

Otto and Blue offers pastas in the $20s and entrees starting in the $30s, bread and olive oil not included. While we were celebrating an occasion that merited such a splurge, it's hard to imagine the restaurant remaining competitive at those prices once the sheen of newness wears off. Look past that, however, and Otto and Blue shines in both ambiance and service. It's classy without being stuffy, and the dark turquoise tones suit it well. Allison, a Magnolia Blue mainstay, was personable and attentive and provided excellent service throughout the meal. Otto and Blue's menu offers apps, salads, pastas, and entrees. It's predominantly Italian albeit with a few options for the steak-and-potatoes crowd. The dishes range from recognizably classic (rigatoni Bolognese) to conspicuously elevated (halibut piccatta). After mulling over several offerings, we went with the bread service, tagliatelle, and duck cacciatore. The food ranged from fairly good to outstanding. While $9 for bread is a tough pill to swallow, they executed it as well as they possibly could have: a hot, fresh ciabatta with tasty herb butter, olive relish, and a quality olive oil-balsamic combo as accompaniments. The cacciatore boasted a pair of duck legs confit, and while I'm usually no fan of dark meat poultry, these were prepared well with crispy skin and plenty of meat. For a typically hearty dish, the sauce seemed light (and a bit subdued), but that could be a consequence of serving atop polenta (more absorbent) rather than pasta. Speaking of pastas and sauces, the tagliatelle hit a nice balance of creamy and zesty without swimming in its white wine lemon sauce. Surprisingly, the highlight of the meal ended up being the dessert that Otto and Blue kindly offered as an anniversary gift. A scoop of vanilla bean gelato came adorned with a Biscoff cookie, a drizzle of olive oil, and a dash of salt. If salt and especially olive oil on ice cream seem vaguely blasphemous, don't knock it until you try it. Each bite was thoroughly delicious. It's a given that good food doesn't come cheap, but even so, Otto and Blue has no margin for error to justify what it charges. On food alone, it was close but not quite there. However, the overall experience made it worthwhile, and I have no regrets about dining here.

This place... is one of our top two places in Jamestown. (The other is Simply Thai right across the…read morestreet.) Actually in the surrounding area too. Between excellent service, from the host to the kitchen staff, and being a bright, cheery place decorated in a modern farmhouse feel (only complaint is the HARD seating), we love this place. The food is always delicious and seasoned perfectly with FLAVOR. For the appetizer, the Salad Pizza is absolutely scrumptious and was recommended by our server our first visit here last year. Honestly, it keeps bringing us back. The flavors are incredible. It has feta, mozzarella, topped with organic greens, shaved onions, tossed in a lemon/dijon dressing with shaved parmesan. It's a flavor bomb in the mouth. The meatloaf, is to die for. If you're a meatloaf eater this is for you. It's so tender and juicy and perfectly seasoned. Melts in your mouth and the sauce on top is the perfect blend of sweet and savory to top it off. For my two sides this time I chose the fried brussels sprouts and the greens. The greens are always seasoned perfectly and the brussels sprouts were crispy and full of flavor. They tasted even better dipped in my meatloaf sauce so that was a win-win. My boyfriend had the special which was short ribs. For his two sides, he had greens and green beans. The short rib was perfectly tender and absolutely delicious full of flavor and moist for him. The green beans and the greens were also perfect as well full of flavor, just enough fat and butter. It's a great little date spot or a family dinner. They also have outdoor seating covered with umbrellas. There's a bar inside with a TV if you choose to go watch sports and the food here is always on point full of flavor and makes you want to come back and try more things on the menu. You can't go wrong at southern roots.

We had a great experience at Southern Roots. Between the table, we tried the Gouda Pimento Dip,…read moreshort ribs, the Granny Smith salad with shrimp, and the crab-stuffed trout. Everything was delicious, although my partner wasn't a huge fan of the short ribs. The trout and salad were both excellent. The cheese dip was delicious. The sides were a standout, especially the Parmesan spaghetti squash, which I highly recommend. We had to put some extra salt on the sides, but that's purely personal preference. They also had several reasonably priced drink specials, which was a nice surprise. The service was amazing--friendly, attentive, and a big part of what made the meal so enjoyable. Overall, a really solid dining experience, and I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu.
