It honestly breaks my heart to write this review because I genuinely try to support local businesses whenever I can. Unfortunately, local doesn't automatically mean good. The young lady who took my order was new, and she couldn't have been sweeter. There was some confusion while she was taking my order, but that's understandable. We all have to learn somewhere. The manager stepped in, explained she was new, corrected the order with the kitchen, and we even had a nice conversation while I waited. So imagine my surprise when I got home and discovered I still had the wrong entrée. Even more disappointing, every single side - french fries, onion rings, fried squash- was cold or lukewarm. Then there was the fish sandwich. When I order a fish sandwich from a local deli, I'm expecting an actual fish fillet. It never crossed my mind that it would be one of those square, processed fish patties. Had I known that, I would not have ordered it. And we didn't eat it. The most frustrating part is that none of these issues were because the cashier was new. The manager knew about the mistake, corrected it herself, and personally packed the order. Somehow, it still wasn't right. I truly believe in supporting local businesses, but local will never trump quality. I can overlook an honest mistake. I have a much harder time overlooking multiple mistakes in one order and food that simply wasn't worth the price. read more

We were looking for a place to grab breakfast on a Sunday morning. We drove past two of our usual places and both parking lots were very full. We were running errands and in the general area of Olive Tree Deli when my wife recalled the original location is in Winston. We enjoy there newer Olive Tree Diner at the Colin Creek Golf Course in Mocksville. We decided to check it out and arrived close to 9:30 am. We both agreed the building looks like a former Taco Bell. There is adequate parking and it is easy to find. Although we only perused the breakfast menu, we saw the menu board behind the counter featuring lunch and dinner options. We both agreed we need to come back and check out the rest of the menu. We ended up ordering breakfast. The man at the counter was friendly and efficient. My wife ordered the 3-egg omelet with bacon, no cheese. She requested sliced tomatoes instead of potatoes and toast. I ordered the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on a bun. The prices are extremely reasonable and the place appears to be clean and taken care of. We took a seat and there was a steady stream of customers. Our food took a bit to arrive and my wife was immediately underwhelmed with her food. Granted, the prices are very inexpensive, but the omelet was very small and simply underwhelming. She also felt the tomatoes were too ripe. The menu for lunch and dinner options sounded much more appealing to us. We decided we would be willing to come back and try again but not for breakfast. Also, we recommend not coming here with any expectation it is anything like the location in Mocksville. Our experience in Mocksville has always been great - completely different vibe. read more

We visited on a Sunday evening and they weren't super busy. We place our order and the cashier was polite but didn't seem eager to be there. The place seemed newly renovated and was in good shape but had relatively generic decorations. I opted for the gyro and found it to be pretty good and on par with other Greek restaurants in the area but nothing spectacular. I also had a side or fries which were fine but didn't have a ton of flavor and I found the crust to be off. All in all the food was good but nothing left a lasting impact. The olive tree and deli is a non-assuming little restaurant on Stratford Road that has surprisingly delicious fresh food, and excellent service! The ambience is pretty nonexistent, but it is very family friendly and always crowded with people enjoying their meals. I have only always gotten the breakfast, but have also tried the zucchini fries that are fresh and delicious. They are always fried to exquisite perfection. The omelettes are fresh and very customizable. The prices are also very reasonable and won't break the bank. It has been a staple of Winston-Salem for many years and I see why! I highly recommend it. It's been a few months since I've visited Olive Tree. I was craving a burger but not from a chain restaurant. Off to Olive tree! This is a counter service restaurant and they also give you a buzzer to let you know when to pick up your order. You also clear your own table when finished. I mention all this because their POS system asked for a tip. In instances like this, I don't feel obligated to tip. This is just my personal feeling on our tip culture here in the US. You do what you feel is right for you. Both my husband and I got a 1/4 lb burger. He had cheese on his while I ordered mine without. You can pick your toppings here so don't be shy about asking for what you want. We both asked for Lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, mayo and ketchup. If you like your burger Carolina style they have the chili, and slaw too! A basket of zucchini fries completed our order. We chose to get cups of water for a beverage but they have Pepsi products available in their fountain machine as well as teas. They expanded their dining area some years ago and I like how it's has a mix of tables and booths in both the main and extended areas. The main area was a bit chilly that day but the extended area has a separate cooling/heating system and it was more comfortable for us. Our order was ready in about 10 min. I was impressed with the burger on sight. It was a true 1/4 lb patty, shredded lettuce-my favorite for burgers-and all my requested toppings. It was hot, fresh and made just like I asked. Our zucchini fries were crispy and they give you a bunch so I was definitely full after this meal. I do wish they salted the zucchini fries a bit right out of the fryer though. I need to remember Olive Tree the next time I want a burger. I usually hit up couple places around town for my burger fix if I don't feel like driving very far. This place seems to sneak under my radar too frequently and I need to remind myself how good their food is. I have tried some items that were not to my liking but their menu is pretty diverse and there is definitely something for everyone. They used to have a really good pancake breakfast years ago. The pancakes were delicious and made with cinnamon. We went back and they had changed them completely which was a disappointment. Whenever I revisit a restaurant I enjoy trying things on the menu I haven't had yet. The burger was a very pleasant surprise this time. My previous visit I had a tuna sandwich. It was good and full of tuna but lacked a bit of a vinegar bite in the form of pickles or drizzle of red wine vinegar I was looking for. Not their fault, just my preference. Olive Tree recently opened a second location in Mocksville at a gold club. I hear the menu is expanded over there. Maybe one day I'll take a drive out to check that out. read more

It has been years since I've visited this little deli, and the food did not come close to what I remember from my previous visits! The Fried Zucchini was way over cooked, and tasteless, and even the ranch dressing failed to help. It's been two years since we've been to the Olive Tree. We were long time regulars but started receiving cold food on a regular basis. The Taco Burrito was a family favorite, but ice cold beans just didn't taste as good as when they are hot. But last night we went in for a burger, and I can't recall ever having one here. They serve a 1/4 pound patty and it felt more like a 1/3 pound... so I'm glad I didn't order the double cheeseburger, it would have been huge. They use a massive sesame seed bun, but don't worry, there's a thick patty that covers 90% of that bun. This burger was juicy, even though it probably started as a frozen patty. It had a ton of condiments, mustard, mayo and ketchup, plus shredded lettuce, tomato, pickles and red onions. This was a solid burger experience and only $5.99, a bargain in the summer of 2024. We enjoyed this with zucchini fries, which are always great, but those will set you back another $6.99 for the large basket. Nice job Olive Tree... maybe I'll try the Burrito again someday soon. read more

Counter service restaurant, friendly but not very helpful. I asked for recommendations and the girl at the counter couldn't seem to recommend anything specific. I ordered the traditional beef gyro and it was a little disappointing. The pita bread was very tough and the meat wasn't very tender at all. My husband ordered the ribeye sub. It was very filling and the meat was seasoned well. We shared a side of onion rings and that was the best out of everything we ordered. Very crispy and the ranch was "the good ranch". MY OH MY.... This is definitely the most overrated place I've found in Winston on Yelp. The gas station in the town I went to college in, served better food than this. I guess I should start with the 8 dollar spaghetti that was literally just noodles and something that resembled more of a dipping sauce than spaghetti sauce.... it was like they took a bunch of different canned sauces and mixed it with salsa. Very underwhelming. The Gyro was flavorless and dry. They didn't even heat the pita up so it was just hard and dry. The tzatziki sauce was also flavorless with very little dill or cucumber or really any kind of flavor. The cheese sticks were straight from Costco but worse and not warm. Based on how large and diverse their menu is, it seems like they don't make anything fresh and it shows. I don't know what the history of this place is but it seems like it just has a bunch of regulars that don't have very good perspective on food. I was stunned how much we spent on such a mediocre meal. read more

They are always fried when you order them, so they are hot, fresh and crispy, delicious in ranch dressing. This is also a favorite breakfast spot for me to take my mother in law. Can't believe this WS staple hasn't been review more! Locally family owned and operated. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner serving Greek classics like chicken souvlaki, hummus and gyros plus deli staples like burgers, hotdogs and club sandwiches, plus some southwestern favorites tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. Lots of vegetarian options too, everyone can find something they like here! One of the local favorites is their fried zucchini served with ranch dressing. My husband always liked their Ruben served the classic way on rye bread with sauerkraut, house made dressing and melted Swiss. It is still great but the corned beef has gotten much slimmer over the years (see photo and also reason for star deduction). Will of course continue to eat here but just not get the Ruben again. I love the vegetarian sandwiches, always really fresh and tasty. The restaurant is nice and clean (remodeled a few years ago with a much more modern feel), friendly service and super fast. read more

They have the best pasta in town I always get the spaghetti with mushrooms. It's expensive per se but what isn't the quality is awesome it comes with garlic bread and salad. The owners are wonderful and they love their customers. It's busy with regulars. They also have wonderful salads and sandwiches so fresh. My only complaint is they charge for extra salad dressing which to me should be just the cost of running a restaurant. It seems like more places have started doing it also read more

When I was a girl, I used to come to this place when it was a Taco Bell. It's bren Olive Tree for a very long while, and while I live very close to this location, I never felt compelled to eat here. I should have not forced the compulsion and eaten elsewhere. Have you ever gone into a restaurant and were met with blank stares instead of warm, friendly greetings? That's what happened to me. I understand that the people behind the counter are not responsible for my emotional well-being, but AT LEAST SAY HELLO AND LOOK ME IN THE EYE. As a first-time customer, I wanted to walk out. I wanted to go back to my car and call in the order so I wouldn't have to look at their faces, but I resisted. We got a hamburger, a gyro and falafel with fries and onion rings. None of them memorable. None of them worth coming back for. They do have breakfast and I love discovering hidden breakfast menus, but I'm not sure I want dour looks and no participation in the customer service department to accompany my pancakes. read more

The Olive Tree on Stratford Road has been serving quality fast food since 1997. They are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Have cash or a check on hand; they don't take debit or credit cards. We had already decided what we were going to order using the online menu. Several folks were in front of us, but the line moved quickly. The cashier was friendly and our order was ready in no time. Mom had the Taco Burrito with a side of Pinto Beans. The grilled burrito was stuffed with ground beef, cheese, beans, salsa (tomato, green pepper, onion), and sour cream. It had a light spiciness, just the right amount of zing for Mom. If you want it hotter, there are several bottles of hot sauce you can choose from on the counter. The pinto beans had been topped with cheese, were well seasoned, and had a texture and consistency like they had simmered all afternoon. I ordered the Triple Decker Club. At $6.75, it's one of the more expensive items on the menu and well worth it. It was a large sandwich of ham, turkey, bacon, Swiss, American, lettuce, tomato and mayo on three slices of toasted bread. The Olive Tree club was a perfectly prepared classic. I ate every bite and loved it. My side of Coleslaw was made of extremely fine grated cabbage, a bit of carrot for color and tossed in a sweet mayonnaise dressing. My husband and I stopped here based on the club sandwich photo that another Yelper posted... He had a major hankering for a club. Neither of us are "huge" Greek-food and but this place offers enough other options for those not wanting a Pita or Gyro. I went with a BLT. It was ok... Hard to mess up a 3 ingredient item but I was not a big fan of the crumbled bacon... It made for a messy sandwich. (Think of bacon bits on a sandwich.) My suggestion to them would be to keep the bacon in strips. I noticed the same crumble bacon on my husband's club. We also ordered a basket of fries (eh, I've had better) and 2 drinks. Our total came to $17-something which seemed kinda high for the minimal amount of food. I almost ordered a salad... and wished I at least added that too as I left still hungry. The seating area is VERY tight... So close in fact that to get (the only) high chair next to our table, a worker literally had to pull a mounted swivel chair off it's mount, have me slide the high chair into place and then replace the mounted seat. Our 2-person table barely had room for our meals and drinks but I felt guilty taking a 4-person table due to the limited available seating anyways. Another Yelper mentioned this place opened in 1997... And the decor has definitely remained untouched since. Dusty fake vines and rubber grapes hang above the counter. Gordon Ramsey would have a field day in there. All in all, an ok place overall but I doubt we'll be back. We're up for trying more new-to-us places. read more

I like Olive Tree. Very diverse menu. Good tasting food. I wish the prices were $.75 cheaper across the board. The other night I visited and got the Gyro on the wheat pita. Very flavorful pork. The tzaziki was kickin with garlic. It stuck with me the rest of the night (in a good way). Certainly a casual place. Cash only. They were busy when I went in and my friend and I had a tough time getting seats. We were right on top of the people next to us. I might get the food "to go" next time to avoid feeling like a sardine. I'll return to Olive Tree. read more

After driving by multiple times I figured it was time to stop in. Thankfully I had already read on Yelp that they only accepted cash so I knew to come prepared. I decided to go with a gyro. You order at the counter and then wait for your number to be called. The place was packed at lunchtime and it was loud. The seating is very close together, I felt like I was in a cafeteria (especially with the noise). The gyro was okay. I've just had much better. I don't like raw onion so I get my gyro without it, but the tzatziki sauce had an overwhelming onion taste to me which I wasn't a big fan of. If you are looking for a quick lunch I can see the appeal, but I would rather spend a few extra minutes and head to the other Greek place that is a favorite of mine that is down the street. read more

The Olive Tree is an intimate deli environment. You will be greeted warmly. There is no table service. Upon entering, we went to the counter and ordered. The owner is visibly present and busy attending to the restaurant operations. The young lady taking orders and money for the meal was warm and gracious. I have eaten breakfast here many times. Why, I feel they offer the most flavorful sausage patties with their breakfasts in town. Their sausage has a bold flavor that loved be myself and many of my friends. I have taken two vegetarians here for breakfast and both spoke positively about their pancakes and veggie omelette. Once you place your Oder you select a seat of your choice. I notice that the staff keep the dining room and restroom very clean. The building is not new but is lovingly maintained. The staff appear pleased that we chose to dine here. Two 2-egg breakfasts with sausage patties, hash-browns, toast and coffee for under fourteen dollars. This is a great place. I like to come here and tear through a Greek salad with chicken and fried zucchini. You'll notice their sign says its the best in town. I don't know how hard it is to fry zucchini but god damn they do it well. There are a few things that keep it from getting 5 stars. First, they try to speak Greek to me. Now I'm a good Greek boy, but I can only speak American, and it makes me feel rude when I just smile and nod, feeling like I let my motherland down. Second, they charge for refills. Is this New York?
