I worked with a different moving company 2 years ago that left me scarred for life with how rude and unprofessional they were. I ended up having to finish the job myself (moving my giant couch up four flights of stairs), so when I knew I was moving again, I did my due diligence and sought out a few quotes. Another company quoted me almost $800 and required a 3 hour minimum for the job!! $800 seemed steep and I knew the job wouldn't take that long... Along came Bookstore Movers who quoted me a reasonable $470 minimum for two hours of work and a maximum of $680 for 3.5 hours of work (price breakdown: $140 per hour with 2 hour min. plus a $190 truck fee). I received a quote within a few hours of requesting it. There was no deposit required and the date was booked. I received detailed emails leading up to the move about FAQs, tips for a seamless move, and the names of my crew including contact info for the crew lead. Abdul (crew lead), Niiwayo "Y.O", and Milly were SO fast and friendly. They wrapped every single item with care in drop cloths and got to moving immediately. Despite the 90 degree heat and a total of five flights of stairs, the job was finished in 2 hours. I was SO impressed. I was so traumatized by my last move that I literally had to walk away while they moved the couch in but before I knew it, I got a text from my boyfriend telling me they had fit it through the door and our living room was all set up. I was so relieved and happy to work with them. If and when we move again, (hopefully not anytime soon, lol), I will 100% be contacting Bookstore Movers... and you should too!

As this was unavoidable, I got on the hunt for a reputable, highly recommended moving company. And I was super duper happy to find A Few Good College Men. Their communication was great, the charges were clearly laid out, they arrived on time, and most importantly took the utmost care with my belongs and furniture. Clearly they have been in the business for a while, because the truck was loaded so intricately and with a lot of care. We had two stops - the first to drop off stuff to the house and the next to the storage unit. With both stops - I was really impressed with the professionalism. All in all, my husband and I both agree that they were excellent value for money; and I really felt peace of mind throughout the moving process! Beds, sectionals, and other furniture that had to be broken down, was broken down by the movers and reassembled at the new location. Some things I didn't know could be broken down were also broken down and reassembled. Attentive and made sure furniture and items were placed where they belonged and oriented the way we wanted it...even if the wife was wrong about it the first time, they did not hesitate to get it the right way. These guys know what they're doing. Good bang for the buck. My mother in law has also locked them down for her move into our old place and she's pretty hard to win over. I had never hired movers before, but my friends and siblings and I are all getting kinda old and broken Not only was the owner super nice and professional and reassuring, but the team that actually showed up at my house on Saturday was SO SWEET! They were polite and courteous and took great care of our stuff, and one of them even took a special interest in my cat because he was a bit distressed but reminded the guy of his own gray tabby We did have a hiccup, where the truck ended up not being big enough, so the guys had to make two trips, but the owner called to apologize and explain the plan, and we gave the team lead a key to both the house and the storage unit, and two of them very quickly grabbed the rest and came back to our new place, while one guy stayed behind to start unwrapping furniture and help my husband move a couple heavy things my body couldn't handle, just to slide them into place and such. They even helped us get a big heavy box out of my mother-in-law's car (not part of the job, obvs) and took a bunch of our unpacking trash with them when they left cuz it was already bagged up but just wouldn't fit in the outside can. Daniel sounds like a great guy at the beginning of the process, told me he would be on site at my home to ensure that all went well, and was a no-show. No follow-up from him - he didn't contact me to check on how things went. When I told him about the theft, his response was basically "that's terrible - let me know if I can do anything". Yes, Mr. Petra, you can reimburse me for having to purchase a new vehicle, and you can vette your employees to ensure that you aren't hiring criminals! Petra Moving Company should not be in business. I had one issue with the frankly crappy reassembly of my captain's bed. When the movers left, the bed was bowed, drawers would not close completely and the slats were falling out or not fitting in at all. I reported the problem to Serena and it was corrected promptly. A crew came and reassembled the bed to eliminate the problems. Finally, Serena is the best. She is responsive, knowledgeable, friendly and very easy to work with. I would recommend this business almost entirely as a result of the superior service she provided.

Both moves were transfers within my apartment building. In response to my request to get the same team if possible, the new three-person team had the same foreman as the previous three-person team. They once again did an excellent job - called in advance, arrived early, and worked very quickly and efficiently. The foreman planned well which items should be moved between the two apartments in each trip to minimize the number of trips and the work time. The team members were both friendly and professional. As with my previous move, the cost of the job came in well under the estimate due to the team's speedy work. My two experiences with NewRay have been a refreshing contrast to my experiences with other movers over the years. I plan to continue to use them for any future moves.
