If you are looking for a funky bar with reasonable drinks and atmosphere galore this is the place. It's a mix of Providence chic and Olneyviille charm with a dash of prohibition mystique. The $6 drink menu is great and the drinks are strong but very tasty. We were there on a recent Saturday night and were treated to a very funky mix of people! Haven't had that much fun in a long time. Free parking right across the street. It's a bit hard to find but worth the effort. You just have to look for the purple curtain and the lingerie shop! read more

They were on the smaller side but it was what I had expected. Definitely somewhere to bring a romantic date. Pretty small inside but I haven't seen it get over-packed. I don't want to ruin the surprise, but let's just say that Justine's is the bar equivalent of a mullet, business up front and party in the back.... ya, ya, terrible metaphor b/c really, Justine's is absolutely beautiful and definitely a great addition to the cocktail scene. I had the pleasure of having the owner, Mike, tend to the bar on my first visit 2 weeks open. Like his other ventures former and current (Lili Marlene's, Ama's, Loie Fuller), it's Frenchy, beautiful, dark, mysterious. As others have mentioned, some of the regular cocktails are $5, but there are other specialty cocktails as well that were unusual and delicious and at a below average price point relative to other cocktail specialists in town. What a great spot, and I can't help but yelp about it despite Mike's professed aversion to advertising, uninformed or uncredentialed reviewers and/or the obvious... Sorry Mike, I'm giving you 5 stars in spite of yourself, deal with it!!! read more

Justine's is a strange and wonderful place to ignite anyone's adventurous flame. A friend and I came here on a Wednesday night, we wanted to try a new place outside of College Hill/Fox Point. We took a short drive to Olneyville, parked in a free lot across the street, and entered through the velvet curtain. Let's rewind a bit *needle scratching vinyl noise* We parked, walked around a little bit, and had to ask some people where the entrance is located. Before coming here I knew the location was super low key and tricky to find. There is no awning, no sign, no advertising whatsoever (a marketers worst nightmare). We had way more trouble finding it than anticipated. Honestly, the hunt added to the charm and fun of coming here. The entrance has dark walls, a few mannequins modeling lingerie in the front windows, and one bouncer- that's it! After a quick ID check, he pulled back a black velvet curtain and VIOLA! Justine's has an odd vibe of dive and upscale, I've really never been to another place that is similar. The velvet upholstered furniture and difficulty finding this bar is a little reminiscent of a speakeasy. I guess there is just SOMETHING about it because I really loved having a drink here. Speaking of drinks they were FANTASTIC. We had an amazing bartender. He was mesmerizing to watch mix, extremely professional, and helpful with suggestions! He took his time to make our drinks and the extra care and effort really paid off. We went with old fashioneds to start, and finished with French 75's, a Justine's signature. Well made, not too strong or too weak, and CHEAP. They could easily price their cocktails around $10 but they were $6- I was amazed. If you're trying to sever ties from your run of-the-mill well lit bar of choice- give Justine's a chance. I promise it will be an experience. I recommend if you've never been here before to look at street view on google maps. If you're showing Providence to friends from out of town this is a great bar to start off your night (and you'll definitely rack up some cool points). I am curious to see what the crowd is like on a weekend. I will definitely be back! read more

This place, I like. I first have to leave a shoutout to my fellow Yelp reviewers - if someone hadn't mentioned that it was fronting as a lingerie store, I'd still be wandering around Olneyville, sad and sans-cocktail. As it is, one loop of the block and I was in. The cocktail menu has all the old standbys, and then, quite a lot of specialty drinks. I HAD to try them all, you understand? I'm sure you do. The first one I tried, on this hot, steamy summer night, was the Kosmonaught. It's the essence of clementine - clementine vodka, clemetine puree - and so perfectly sweet and tart and refreshing. I was also very excited to notice that there were STARS IN MY DRINK as I kept repeating to my date. STARS! There were silvered-sugar stars sprinkled on top. Really a nice touch both aesthetically and taste-wise, as the little pips of sweet really set off the tanginess of the clementine. The next one I tried was the Jakarta Sling, a nice variant on the Singapore Sling. My date got a Manhattan, which was really most standout for the black preserved cherry in the bottom. I think the only thing I didn't enjoy was the eggy one, and that's not their fault - I should have known better than to drink egg and booze. If it's your speed, more power to you, but it's not mine. There are nibbles plates, including a cheese plate that features my favorite Drunken Goat. The chairs and couches are comfy and encourage groups to sit, stay, and enjoy themselves. After that first trip, more than one of my friends has chosen to spend their birthday evenings here, and it's ideal for groups like that - take over a corner, drink all night, and not worry about a thing. read more

Read the reviews and felt like this is a place I had to check out. Such a cool concept, they totally play into the old Speakeasy, with a black curtain you enter to expose a bar with dim lighting, small tables with incredibly comfortable seats and even a bar area near the woman's room to enjoy a beverage if you are waiting for a friend. The menu has a variety of different drinks on it so just be bold and try something new. The bartender made the most amazing drinks, it was like a science to him, he very carefully made every drink to perfection. I did see that they offer a few food options, basically some cheese platters but we stuck to just drinks. This place is very intimiate and I think it would be a great place to meet up after dinner or a date. Initially I thought it would be the perfect first date option but the whole 'yeah this place doesn't have a sign outside and there is a black curtain to enter behind a lingerie shop' may kill any opportunity of a relationship starting! The place was really slow for a Saturday night, I am hopeful more people will find out about this place. If you want something different, definitely come here, the drinks are amazing. read more

Most speakeasy style bars (at least the ones in NYC I Have been to) are tacky, snotty, overpriced fads. This place is not any of those things. The drinks are well made and very cheap. The staff is very prompt and good and what they do. The space is very nice. Being Olneyville, parking is not the easiest. Overall, this is the best cocktail bar in the city. read more

This is a real David Lynch styled location. It's a quiet bar in the middle of an unassuming City square that you will miss if you don't pay attention. A host manning what appears to be a lingerie kiosk will reveal the entrance only after your ID has been deemed legit. Then you get into the interior, which I can best describe as a dimly lit rococo style tea room. Sit at the bar, couch or table and savor the drink menu, which is a mix of old favorites and new concoctions. Not amount of writing will do this place justice. Justine's really nailed it with their concept and created a genuine speakeasy feel that keeps people coming back again and again. Well...I came a little late to the party, but it was well worth the wait. A few friends and I decided to do a night in the suburbs and avoid the chaos that is Providence on a summer weekend with Waterfire. After a perfunctory first drink at a nearly vacant establishment that shall remain nameless, we caved and decided to head in to the city. Wanting to stay a bit off of the beaten path, Justine's was our chosen venue as none in our group had yet visited this little gem. We lucked in to nearby street parking and meandered in where lingerie-clad mannequins beckoned from the window. We were ushered behind the curtain to a world of inexpensive and well-made cocktails, low lighting, and just the right amount of glitz and glamour. It's a charming little spot with a sizeable bar and some tables flanking the walls. We grabbed a few bar stools and settled in, equally impressed by the tasty cocktail options ($5!) and the abundant and fragrant white lilies on the back of the bar. I especially loved the sparkling chandeliers and mini matching wall sconces. There could be a romantic vibe if you're looking for the perfect place to take a date since it is quiet and cozy (and let's face it, booze helps there usually), but fear not if you're just trying to hang out. Service was friendly and attentive, and we never had to wait to be asked if we wanted another drink. I especially enjoyed the soaked cherry at the bottom of my Ward 8. In fact, I enjoyed it so much I had two. High marks were also given for the French 75 and Mary Pickford by friends. Remember to tip generously - just because the drinks are only $5 doesn't mean your handy barkeep deserves less! read more

i'm a fan i'm a fan i'm a fan! speakeasy is an abused term in this day and age. i'd go so far as to say that 90% of those purported, self-proclaimed spots are sadly mis-advertising. not so w justine's. like the others, i'd prefer you to go and experience this intimate gem for itself. and gals, don't go alone, this neighborhood has all the trappings of an "uh oh, shouldn't have left home w/o my mace" in my opinion, look for schmaltzy, not schmancy when it comes to the darkened doorway of this particular lingerie establishment and have fun! read more

What is there not to like here? First (and most important) - the drinks! Wow can they make a delightful cocktail - and at unheard of prices! We were here towards the earlier part of a Saturday evening and enjoyed a quiet, date-friendly atmosphere. From what I understand, it gets busier and crazier the later it gets. I will certainly come back to experience that side of Justine's. I love the idea of a speakeasy-type of place and expected something a little seedier after reading some of the reviews by other yelpers, but it really just felt like a nice and intimate bar. The two ladies working were attentive, friendly and had really great taste in their music selections. While it was hidden away and tucked into a (very small) lingerie shop, it was fairly easy to find using the address. I can't wait to return! read more

Justine's concept and decor is admittedly awesome! The night I went it happened to be VERY loud to the point where it was difficult to have a conversation. Also, I could not finish my cocktail and didn't like the others I tasted either. They were all so heavy on lemon juice that it was actually painful to drink them. It might just have been an off night for Justine's, so I'd be totally willing to give them a second try. (I hate giving lousy reviews! :-/) read more

There are no signs...so you might have a difficult time finding it. It draws an eclectic crowd. My favorite cocktails are the Ward 8 and the Rock and Rye Cooler. Nice little place. Secretive & Very nicely decorated on the inside. Bartender looked like Wednesday from the Adams Family and I was not very impressed that the two drinks we ordered they couldn't make. Tom Collins & another drink we got there last time (she knew the name but didn't have the ingredients). They had a nice little "picky" things food menu (meat, cheese, nuts) but could not do the meat and was out of one of the cheeses. I'd certainly go again, but I'd make sure to keep things more simple. read more

At first glance i was excited to find a place with great atmosphere; the lamps are amazing and cocktail list seems exciting, however, i was put off by the crowd. You would think that the dark curtain and fake lingerie shop (where you CAN actually buy underwear) separating this bar from the real world would keep out certain kinds of people but this may be where social media has done us wrong. Justines had a very college bar feel to it on the inside. After I enjoyed one five dollar cocktail I headed back up the hill to a neighborhood where I feel more at home. read more
