Well, this one was puzzling. After a wait of at least several weeks, and possibly several months, I was able to get a reservation early in the evening. As a cocktail connoisseur, and a lover of gin cocktails in particular, I was eagerly awaiting my experience of this highly acclaimed new joint. Maybe I should say highly hyped instead of highly acclaimed. I understood from other reviews that they also served food, that it was probably overpriced, and that the menu was very small. However, I went into my experience with as much openness as possible, hoping for the best, as I always do. In short, Juniper does not live up to its hype. (Though not because it is newly opened, as I'll explain in a moment.) Also, it seems in reality to be a botanical-themed club for women in their mid-20s. I say that not as an insult either to women of that age nor to this restaurant, but I would guess that 90% of the patrons I saw were women in their 20s, and the average age of the servers and mixologists also looked to be around 23. That's all fantastic if these workers are excellent at their craft, but that was really not the case. Everyone was very nice, but I'm not sure that anyone really knew what they were doing. The mixologist didn't know how to shake a cocktail, and almost every hostess or server I interacted with spoke in a way that made me think I was at a bar and grill. Now, don't get me wrong. I want this restaurant to succeed. I would love nothing more than for Juniper to become one of the greatest destinations in this beautiful city. But right now, the main thing it has going for it, other than its hype, is its admittedly lovely interior design -- which extends all the way from a profusion of (artificial) flowers and greenery down to rather lovely utensils. But both the cocktail program and the food program seem to be rather confused. I ordered the cauliflower as an appetizer, primarily because I'm gluten-free and couldn't order the more interesting-sounding bread. When it arrived, it seemed like the dish was plucked right out of a bar and grill, and tidied up a bit on a plate. The flavors were cheap. I couldn't even finish it. It seemed like such an insult to its surroundings. Apologies to whomever created, it, but it does not belong at this restaurant. The drink I had to accompany it was All She Wrote, a gin-based drink off the surprisingly short menu of gin-based drinks (where are the HOST of gin-based classics, or pre-Prohibition drinks, or actually innovative drinks?). It had some nice flair, in the form of a cotton candy garnish, but it tasted far too simplistic for a place attempting to sell cocktails for $16 in a city where there are half a dozen places making far better cocktails than this for significantly less. My server described it as basically lemonade. The main course was confusingly much better. I ordered the Long Island steak, and it was nicely seasoned, with delicious sauces and an excellent cut of meat. However, the drink I ordered to go along with it--the Big Red-- was both a perfect match for it and an impossible match for it. This was a significantly more successful cocktail, as a cocktail. The flavors (based on red peppers and two amari) were quite nice, and a good complement to the steak. However, it had a huge spun sugar garnish poking out of it, which I admit was nice to look at, but which made drinking from the glass almost comical. In addition, the cocktail was filled with cubed ice, which I don't think I have seen anywhere other than the cheapest bars in town. I'm writing this review not because I like writing negative reviews (I don't, at all), but because I would love for nothing more than there to be an excellent, actually gin-based cocktail bar in Greenville. This is not a gin-based cocktail bar. Not even close. It also does not have food nor service on the level of what Greenville has come to expect. So when you hype a restaurant this big, and it does not deliver on food, drinks, or service, it's a little puzzling. But maybe not so puzzling when the clientele is so young that they may not know any different. To those of you running this restaurant, I wish you the very best. But you need to seriously up your game on your food and drink programs. You also need to train your lovely staff to know how to speak and act and serve in a restaurant at the price point you're probably wanting to stay at. The environment is lovely, and I hope that in the next several months, I see some reviews that show improvements have been made. At that point, I may feel comfortable taking my wife here. Glad I ran a scouting trip in advance, just in case. If you're a woman in your 20s, this might already be perfect for you! If you're not ... well ... there are much better options. read more

I was very excited for our reservation for Juniper tonight! We arrived and the host told us we could not enter because my husband was wearing sandals (with a dress shirt and dark jeans). I kindly pushed back and said the reservation did not say that. The host insisted it did. When I looked up the dress code and showed the host the poster dress code said flip-flops (not all sandals) we were still denied entry. It is incredibly disappointing that the dress code that is posted is different than the one that is being enforced. read more

I have now visited twice and both times it was lovely. The first time I went for my birthday after dinner and for drinks. My server was amazing. The drinks were delicious. I tried gin drinks...because hey, it's a gin bar. I tried The Rich Girl and By Any Other Name. Both great but the former is my favorite. My second visit I tried the yucca fries and the Rosemary focaccia. Delicious with drinks. Both times, the entertainment was superb. They have a vocalist that was there both times. She sounds AMAZING... better than the original artists of the songs she covers. The first visit there was a saxophonist. He was superb. The second visit was a violinist. She was extraordinary. Lastly, the decor and lighting is always beautiful!! I also love the diverse crowd and everyone singing together during a popular song. I'm excited any time we make reservations here. read more

If you are a 30-40 year old woman named Brittany, Bethany or Brianna, have I got the spot for you! Turn on your favorite Ace of Bass jam and you and the girls head out to Juniper! You can get a frozen juice pouch drink with a little speedo man wrapped inside a pink straw*, or a purple drink with glitter inside for the cost mani pedi**. High marks for the experiential atmosphere. The botanical theme had quite a few ladies snapping photos for Instagram. I took my wife and she loved it. I liked the snarky hipster bartenders. Nice guys and good clever banter. One thing I do know though, you guys are definitely inflating your bookings online. For a place that has a substantial waitlist for a reservation, this place was at half capacity for the couple hours we were there. I'm a marketer, so I appreciate a good spin, and Juniper is selling the dream, right down to the red carpet and velour stanchion ropes. *Though I was embarrassed and made the bartender pour my juice pouch in a glass, I kept the little speedo man. ** I don't actually know the price of a mani pedi. read more

Juniper is the best place to go for a celebration, date night, or just a night to dress up and go out on the town! If you want to feel fancy and see views of the city, this is your place. I ordered the Rich Girl drink which was not only beautiful and garnished with sparkles, it was also so good and one of the best mix drinks I've had. I also ordered the Don't Tempt Me With a Good Time drink which was equally as tasty and this one was topped with cotton candy! All the vibes were perfect at Juniper. There was live entertainment, DJ, and saxophone player, and even a dancing bush...what more could you want? All of these elements made the night an unforgettable experience! Definitely my new favorite spot in Greenville! read more

I'm giving 1 star only for the ambiance. This restaurant was the BIGGEST disappointment. My wife has been speaking so highly of this place for 3 years, we finally made it to Greenville and had a great time all day leading up to this reservation. The service was very good and we didn't have to ask for anything. My wife ordered the salmon and I ordered the filet. The salmon came out and had a pungent fish smell and tasted terrible. The $60 filet came out as a 4 oz filet with probably a quarter of a cup of potato sticks and 3 of the smallest potatoes halved. My wife had to send her salmon back and didn't order anything else. No manager came to see what her concern was. The filet had a decent taste but for $60 I was expecting either a bigger portion or an amazing flavor. On the way out we rode the elevator down with a group of guys that were also disappointed with the portion sizes. We all went to perfect buns and were able to get full off of a properly priced burger. Terrible experience, never going back. read more

The head of security at Juniper is madly disrespectful. Ruined my entire night. after spending $500 in the establishment with my kids and long time friends , we were reprimanded the entire night by head of security aka "the woman gustapo". if you want to know what it feels like to live in a communist state go to juniper in greenville "ac" marriott and have one interaction with this woman. she had the nerve to tell us multiple times that this was a five star restaurant and we needed to remain seated at all times and could not walk around the establishment without being reprimanded. The bar and bar staff = amazing. In conclusion, she's gotta go. Such a turnoff for what could be, an awesome, lively, electric rooftop bar. Such a Shame. *2 stars bc bartenders are awesome. read more

Place is very clean, modern looking and overall very nice rooftop. Went on a Friday night and it wasn't as packed which is why I found odd why service was slow. I understand the place is more high end, but a bit too overpriced for my taste (I am also from south Florida which should say a lot). If you want something g cute for pictures on social media, this would be the place. read more

This is an odd one. I am giving Juniper a 4 star rating, but will tell you that we will not go back. We waited about 6 weeks on a reservation because we heard about the views and the ambiance. We were then sat at a tiny table not far from the hostess station. Ok table, but not worth the wait list. Other than that, the service was top notch and the place is very nice and trendy. It does have an upscale urban bar feel. We did have two signature cocktails and they were unusual and really good. For our meal we had broccolini, cauliflower, shrimp and the oyster taquitos. All of the food was good. The broccolini was very good. Unusual flavors and cooked nicely. The price was not as bad as we expected. We would still probably not go back. The reasons: 1- It is a bit pretentious. 2- The food was good, but not great. 3- If you do not get a table near the window, the atmosphere is diminished greatly. 4-The menu was very small. We tried everything that looked interesting to us and none of it was something we could not live without. I still recommend giving it a try. It is a neat place with good service, good food and nice views. There are just too many other places for us to go twice without a good reason. If you get there early on a weeknight, you may be able to score a seat at the bar. That foregoes the long wait for a reservation. read more

Well, I can see why everyone is moving to Greenville! This place alone is worth the move. I have not been to LA and I have not been to New York, but this is what I imagine would be there. I cannot believe that this is in our cute little city... Juniper, you make Halls Chophouse look like a dinosaur... The newest, the freshest, the most clean and well thought out. Stunning in every way... Service is exceptional... food is magnificent. I want to live here. read more

Another night at Juniper, another stellar experience. The singer and dancer who performed were awesome and once again added so much to the ambiance and the experience. Our waiter, Adrian, was fantastic. We once again had a large table and his not only was his service flawless, his great personality added so much to our enjoyment of the evening. Kudos again, Juniper, for another great night! read more

I'm giving a 3 for aesthetics. This spot is GORGEOUS. You can not deny the uniqueness of this establishment being that its a hotel restaurant. The spacing, jungle decor, and rooftop views you simply can't beat right now in Greenville. The food.. not great. The menu is small, simple, and over priced. Drinks, served small, intricate, yet uber priced. You get the big city vibe/pricing of Atlanta or Boston but the food quality of a higher level chain restaurant. Great for ambiance. Would not recommend for food or a decent drink. read more

So....when we arrived I asked the server about the bottomless mimosas ... he told me my glass would never be empty. Well that was true for the first 3. After that....he ignored me. The menu said it was $25 my bill showed $28. There was a group of 7 so tip was automatically added....i get it but I feel like that was his ticket to no longer be present. The food was good but the service.... Welllllllllll....... read more

They didn't let me into the bar because they didn't like the way I showed my driver's license. The girl at the reception was terribly impolite. That's the only reason I'll never come back here again and I don't recommend it to anyone. read more

Can only speak to the drinks and environment but enjoyed both! Would be fabulous for a girls night or drinks before a date/night out. All our drinks were yummy, but a bit higher priced than maybe they should be. read more

Beauitful restaurant but main entrees were substandard loud for dinner deserts were great and so was the French press coffee

I visited this place last night and it was the worst place I have ever been to it all started with the hostess and the manager they where super rude when we got there, if that place could get better management it would be a much better place. I'm just gonna say this if you are Hispanic or foreigner do not go here. THEY'RE RACIST. read more

I had a horrible experience with the service staff, I would not recommend. If you are under 30 you will get accused of using a fake id (before you even show them your ID) when you are mid twenties and be told you are too drunk before you have had a drink. Spend your money somewhere else. read more

I would not recommend this place. Bar tenders were not accommodating with drinks and service. The hostess was not accommodating for our group of 8. They sat us at a table for 12 and then said having 8 was a fire hazard. They turned off the fire table and said it was still a fire hazard. Do not go here. read more

Juniper ! Had many parties over the time period they have opened, I do not go there for the food but we do order some out of respect, drinks are awesome beautiful atmosphere and entertainment is fabulous. for my birthday I was disappointed , party out 10 people all adults.I do not want to go into details on here let's just say service and stuff not as accommodating. but I do want to say. We got a horrible table considering they had an amazing table right next to us that was empty all night, we did ask if we could be moved from the high top, no space top from but we were denied. Out server was amazing! If it wasn't for him we would have walked out next door to larkins. read more

Great food and atmosphere. Ordered the the Thai shrimp and it was really good, bit of a kick but good. The yucca fries were perfect and the aioli to dip it in was amazing. Really nice and helpful staff. If i had to criticize one thing, would be the dessert. The bananas and chocolate was mediocre at best and doesn't feel like it should belong on this menu. I felt thrown together with some spare banana muffins they had at breakfast. The bruleed bananas were the only good thing about the dessert. I'd say scratch it from the menu and build off the bruleed bananas. read more

Our first Juniper outing was a memorable one for all the right reasons. The ambiance is a refined funky, quite unique for Greenville. The city view doesn't hurt either. From the hostess to the server to the runners, the service was spot-on. When I asked my server to describe one gin cocktail, which is something I'm particularly about, he gave me exactly what I needed. The food itself was delicious; we loved our app and two entrees (yucca fries, crispy salmon, and short ribs). In short, we rank Juniper right up there with some of our other upscale Greenville favorites. read more

Horrible place. Not worth the money. We went the day after Valentines and were forced to order their prefixed menu. We were well aware of that going in but what a disappointment for $150. There was not one bit of fine dining in this very expensive experience. The waitress was cold and not engaging at all. Why would she be. We were a party of 6 with a guaranteed 20% tip on a thousand dollar dinner. She brought out the first course when our entire party wasn't even seated at the table so someone's food just sat there. The drinks for each course arrived at the table after the food. The food was mediocre at best. You could tell they had just cooked a bunch of the options ahead of time and they had been sitting. They rushed you through the entire meal. In real fine dining there is time between each course. Not here. They were obviously ready to move on to their next thousand dollar table. What a joke. I would never come back to this place or recommend it. Service was terrible. Sadly she still made $200 in an hour. read more

My fiancé and I celebrated our anniversary at Juniper and it didn't disappoint. 10/10 feedback for the following: - Our wonderful waitress, Alo- Such a breath of fresh air- She's was kind, attentive, knowledgeable and a joy to talk to. - The buffalo cauliflower- do yourself a favor and get two plates- If you're sharing, get three. - The view of downtown & the mountains from the patio- arguably one of the best views in Greenville- a perfect spot for a sundowner. - The DJ- The perfect happy-medium vibes- Upbeat & present but not too distracting (from outside). - The ambiance- Such a fresh, fun & intriguing space- It's uniqueness to Greenville's typical country club feel is so welcomed- That elevator takes you up to a beautifully elevated concept, living up to Greenville's nickname, GVegas. Thank you all for a wonderful evening! read more

Drinks, food, ambiance and service here were top notch! There's nothing else like this in town. Favorite spot in Greenville!

We went by to have a drink. Waited more than a year to come. We were told that because we didn't have a reservation for a party of 2, they couldn't seat us. Let's just start by stating fact. This is not a restaurant, this is a nightclub that tries to serve food(Brunch). Our service was ok. It took a while to get the waitresses attention when we needed water, or found hairs in our food. That said, one of our entrées had hair in the syrup and in the waffle. Not like hair hair from the head, but like someone shave their neck or back. Personally I had the omelette, and if they call that an omelette, they need to go back to school. One egg or egg and a half folded over a piece of cheese with a bunch of vegetables on top of it is not an omelette(please refer to their menu. "stuffed omelette"), my potatoes were lukewarm at best. The best flavor of any entrée I tried there was the ketchup. You'd be best off going to a Waffle House. It'll save you about $100-150. This restaurant is a one and done! read more

We reserved based on having the igloo experience. Only to find they took it down, days ago without even letting anyone know. Although they still had it advertised on their website. The drinks were overpriced and weak. You can tell they just add a shot of alcohol to a pre made mix. It's fine for $5 drink not $15. The team was apologetic but did nothing to fix or help the situation. We promptly booked a reservation down the street. We had people come from out of town just for this. So, we will never be returning for that!! If I could do less stars I would. Be transparent, let people know parents have limited time and funds for this crap. read more

The ambiance at this restaurant was absolutely amazing. We enjoyed Juniper during the holidays with all of the decor in full display along with the addition of performers singing and dancing through out the restaurant. Even though our waiter was more than polite, the service was surprisingly slow considering the restaurant did not seem to be very full. We waited awhile to get served waters and then once we ordered drinks it took about another 10 minutes. Almost a half hour in and we haven't ordered apps or dinner. I will say even though our original service was slow, once we ordered food, it came to the table relatively fast. The appetizers and drinks were amazing but the entrees were pretty unsatisfactory. Overly salted, cooked and just not quite right. Would easily come back for the ambiance and a drink or app and sit at the bar, but if you are a parent like myself, don't waste money on a babysitter to go to this restaurant. read more

We had a terrible experience as a group. We had several openings at our table but the hostess kept members of our party from coming up because they said we didn't have room. 3 people of our group left and all individually said that the hostess was so rude they didn't want to be there any longer to figure it out. When I came down the elevator to address the situation the hostess stormed off through the front door. The manager tried - she was very kind but the damage was already done. I would have expected them to offer some sort of discount off our $350 bill or a response to my email. read more
