Juniper offers lovely views of downtown Greenville. From the dinner table to the bar to the outside areas you're surrounded by constant beauty. The cocktails I had were for pride month and big red. They were both so unique and delish! The salmon I had was amazing! I only wish they had a few more meal options on the menu to choose from. Definitely put it on your to do list and make sure you make a reservation on Resy! read more

Excellent 21st birthday experience! Wanted to go somewhere with a super cool ambiance and yummy drinks to try, this place had everything I wanted and more... Beautiful decor and delicious cocktails, delish appetizers. Service was really good and the food came out fast. Focaccia with the spreads were awesome, spicy shrimp could have been spicer but still yummy! Yuca fries were different, but still good. About 15 minutes after sitting down they had a wonderful live singer walking around SINGING BEAUTIFULLY! (She even did a outfit change after a few songs, so cool to me.) To my understanding they always have some sort of music/entertainment. (Maybe just on the weekends). Would definitely come back for another special occasion. A little expensive but I totally understand for the location and experience you get! read more

WHAT AN EXPERIENCE. From the moment you pass the green velvet rope, you feel like you are VIP. When we walked through the entryway, they showed us to our seats, which was on the outside balcony. So beautiful! Our waitress was so sweet. She gave us recommendations for drinks. We got the focaccia bread (the walnut spread delicious but I loved the salty butter!). I got the Rich Girl drink, which was splendid! Our reservation was at 8:30. Around at 9:30-10:00, they had live music. The singer was amazing. There was another gal, dressed to the nines with wings that lit up. It was SO MUCH FUN! They also had a saxophone player. HE WAS SO GOOD! Wow! I feel like I'm still coming off the high from the night. It was such a great place for a girls night out. I have made reservations for next month to go back. read more

This atmosphere was so unique, nothing else like it in the Upstate to my knowledge. Delicious cocktails (they're primarily a gin bar) & the rosemary focaccia was delicious. My entree was ok, I got the steamed buns. But we were told up Front that their entree menu was limited. I believe this is a great place for before/after dinner drinks and hangout to enjoy live music/entertainment. Only suggestion: dessert improvements. My husband had birthday cake (on the house, as it was his birthday) and my brother and sister in law have a chocolate layered dessert which was rather dry. Over all, flavor was there, just think there's room for improvement. Overall: great experience, phenomenal service. Will definitely be back. read more

REVIEW YOUR CHECK!!! My first time trying this, my partner wanted to adjust the tip and ended up being charged twice. Over the course of two weeks, juniper was unreachable and when we got in touch we're not helpful at all. They recommended waiting and filing a claim with the bank. The server assured us that the first transaction would not go through but it did. Twice. Despite that, I decided to go again because the atmosphere is UNMATCHED! Truly a beautiful place and experience except for the billing. I closed my tab and noticed that I was charged for a more expensive drink rather than the drinks I ordered. Again another bad experience with the checkout process. I met a group of people leaving the elevator that said they were trying to be charged for two bottles when they never received them. I think they may be taking advantage of people who are under the influence so please please check your bills. I talked to friends about this as well and someone was charged for more drinks than they had ordered and another friend had a similar comment. The views are immaculate and the food is ok but overpriced. If you go, pop in and grab a drink... just one that way you can keep track of it. I hate that this restaurant leaves me anxious to visit again because it is nice. read more

I booked a birthday dinner here at least a month in advance because I was so excited to visit based on the photos and reviews. The environment is really beautiful and well decorated. It has a high-end fairytale vibe that I absolutely love. The cocktails, wine, and beer were all really good. Our waiter was phenomenal! The singer, who I specifically came to see, came over and sang right at our table for a minute or two before continuing her journey around the venue. She was lovely! On the reservation and follow up email I did state that 3 people in our party had birthdays that we were celebrating. This was not mentioned at all when we got there or by the waiter (whom I assume wasn't told) and we did get one complimentary birthday cake slice, but only after one of my friends snuck off to ask the waiter about it. I don't need free things, but I would have liked a little more hype considering how excited we were to eat there. The reason for 3 stars is because 4 people in our party got the steak dish mid-rare and all 4 came out twice as significantly over-cooked. I NEVER send back food, but we did this time since the issue was with all of our steaks and not just one person. The second time the issue still persisted, but we said we would keep the meals as we were very hungry by that time. Another friend had the pork buns and she said the meat was tough to chew. The desserts were also not the best, though I did like the chocolate one somewhat. We were comped one dessert as an apology from the waiter directly, which is where I want to reiterate that he was excellent and we appreciated his attentiveness throughout the evening. The focaccia bread appetizer was very very good! Yum! Between the 8 of us we had to have spent at least $1K in drinks and food. It was just really disappointing to have the experience with the food that we did and to not have anyone other than the waiter address the issue or try to fix whatever was going on in the kitchen. I do also want to acknowledge that restaurants everywhere are struggling and we were all understanding and patient with some of the longer waits and mis-steps. After dying to go to the restaurant for so long I was just hoping it would be phenomenal. A $38 steak should never be described as not great. I really want to see this restaurant succeed and will try them again possibly for the occasional drinks with friends. Edit: After looking through other reviews I have lowered it to 2 stars. It looks like we got the 'cheap' version of several items and our steak (the first version is in the photos, I didn't take another photo when it came back) was lacking some of the sides it was supposed to have. Now I'm just annoyed that after being really nice about the steaks we were treated poorly after ordering a bunch of desserts. Honestly it makes me not want to go back. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area with better food, less expensive, and still have great views/atmosphere. read more

My husband and I came for a date night (MUCH NEEDED) and we will never forget our experience! It was a great night, with eccentric live music! My husband and I were surprised with how meticulously organized the singing, violin playing and dancing was. These managers are doing all things right. Our waiter Zachary was fabulous! My drink was specifically chosen by him (photo attached), because when waiters know, they REALY know what to get. I was blindly in love with this restaurant and the great atmosphere that was provided. PLEASE HAVE RESERVATIONS!!! If not the wait is around 1.5 hours. Juniper is a really cool Instagram worthy spot, but truth be told I'm not sure it's worth going back to as a local. Our server, Emily, was super sweet and delightful. The drinks are very good, and not exceptionally pricy. The food is ok, but not anything to write home about. In making the reservation, it asks you if you're celebrating anything special. I was celebrating my birthday. They very kindly wished me a happy birthday when they pulled my reservation up at the door. And the server said "I've got something for you!" And brought me a slice of birthday cake with a candle! But when we received our bill, they charged us $12 for a single slice of carrot cake I've never had this happen in my 39 years of life. My husband and I sat at the bar at Juniper last night and were extremely impressed! Our bartender, Joey, was so personable and took immense pride in his craft making the experience---he was very through in answering all of our questions, so meticulous when crafting each drink he made (for us and others at the bar). The environment is fun, including great decor, a boppin' DJ, and really good seating, both indoor and on the rooftop. Our bartender, Kelly, knew exactly what she was doing. I've been coming to this place since it opened. It's my first option to take guests, especially if they are looking for a more city vibe with crafted cocktails. The rooftop gives a good view of the city and the interior is always decorated according to the season. I've never gone where I wasn't impressed. If you are looking for a wow factor book in the middle of their hours so you catch their entertainment. It's an experience to say the least. I absolutely love the yucca fries, highly recommend if they are on the menu. I love gin so I usually opt for the gin drinks but my non drinking friends always find something they are fond of. On this night most all went spectacularly well. The views of downtown Greenville at night with Christmas lights still twinkling were wonderful. The added Christmas touches to an already beautiful inside were also lovely. Our food was also the best we've had at Juniper. We had salmon and halibut and started the evening with thick cut bacon. All were delicious! Cocktails are too pricy and not even close to worth it. I travel all over the country for a living and these are big city prices but without the incredible taste. Such a terrible experience from start to finish. We booked 3 tables of 8 on the rooftop deck for our company gathering after work. About 8 of us showed up and the very young girl at the door tells us that there are only 2 spots left and the rest of us can't get in. Meanwhile, we see multiple parties of people leaving. After about an hour of back n forth, 4 of us are allowed to go up but "are not allowed " to sit with our company, we must sit inside, tucked away in a remote corner, and get this...the place was DEAD! It was a Wed. Night! You couldn't even walk around inside. Remember, this is a small town in SC, not L.A. or NYC. It seemed that the employees double-hatted as hall monitors to ensure you didn't leave your area. My perception is that in trying to be so "exclusive" the bar has lost its swanky/cool appeal and is just a pretentious joke. We won't be back. On the upside, the pictures in the elevator and the decorated hallway is nice, but definitely not worth the hassle! read more

We loved the food, the decor, and service. However, the live entertainment was SO LOUD as to be painful...a nightclub vibe instead of fine dining. I haven given this place a shot multiple times with various company and I am underwhelmed each time. I have gone there with my husband for dinner and drinks. (he thought the food was terrible) I have gone here with a group of girlfriends, a group of colleagues, and with a single friend two different times. Each time the whole seating situation just seems to pretentious and like they are trying to seem more exclusive than they are. It just makes me feel cringy and weird. I grew up in Newport Beach California and my parents lived in Beverly Hills for a good portion and I went to USC, so I have been to plenty of upscale and pretentious places. As you walk out of the elevator I can see they were going for the Beverly Hills Hotel vibe with all the plants and vines which does look pretty cool. The views are pretty from so high up and the ambience and décor is nice. The drinks are alright but they definitely make better drinks elsewhere in Greenville. The drinks and the price do not match. For instance, we go to Camp a few times a month (it's one of our favorites) they have a similar cocktail style and their drinks have better flavor even though it is the same price. We could also look at swordfish club or vault and vator, which has high end cocktails for a premium price but they are intricately crafted and worth it. All that to say, it's not about the cocktails being on the higher end it's about the cocktails not deserving to be charged on the higher end. The food is also not great and I have the same feeling as I do about the cocktails. It is overpriced for what you get and it's not a great dining experience. I would love to see Juniper hire and new Chef or someone to overhaul the food and drink to match the location. If they could bring up the standards here, I could easily see ourselves gladly spending a few hundred dollars every few weeks for some fun cocktails and apps. read more

almost $700 for a Birthday Event for my spouse that was RUINED. Our confirmed booked time frame for private rooftopp Igloo experience was changed less than 24 hours before the event. Trying to get in touch with any staff regarding this was difficult to say the least via phone, chat or email. Finally, when I was able to communicate with the Manager Tiffany Lathan tiffany.lathan@marriott.com regarding this and the complimentary dessert for the birthday person. I also communicated with the assistant manager the night of the event, but I was still charged for something that should have been FREE! The night of the 2-hour timed PRIVATE EVENT we were interrupted numerous times from other guest being allowed to enter the private event and walk around the event any estimate of over 10 people intrude this event. This event was RUINED from the simplest things we could NOT get such as salt & pepper after requesting it several times and having to pack our food to go as a result, because we could not eat it due to time expiring on this timed 2-hour event, to the very unacceptable things as our guest NOT being allowed into the event. I had great expectations. It is not that the food is bad, or the service is bad, but they really missed an opportunity to create a special spot downtown. They failed, and the fix is expensive. First, 100% of the flowers and plants are fake. Like cemetery plastic flower fake. I noticed. It bothered me. It is lazy and lame. The architect and designer could have done better. The red rope set up on the ground floor is overdone and pretentious...everything about the place is pretentious. But the biggest sin is again the designer's fault. The high glass illuminated tented "fence" that surrounds the place almost completely blocks the view of downtown. What were they thinking? It is like they spent extra money to ruin the view. One thing all the pretentious places in UpTown Charlotte did right maximize the city views...so don't try to explain it away with ... "must have been a safety requirement". No, it was an epic fail. There are shelves of implements in the kitchen on display like at a Cracker Barrell...taking up space and collecting dust. Extra effort to keep clean, and contrived like at a Six Flags theme restaurant. The staff was nice and the service good, but they are stuck in a "space" that is over done in all the wrong way, and has no soul. The only purpose for this place is for people to take out-of-towners on an expense account and impress them with how big a bill you can rack up. Perhaps that was the plan, and if so, they succeeded. I will definitely be back, as long as you are paying:). read more

I'm giving 1 star only for the ambiance. This restaurant was the BIGGEST disappointment. My wife has been speaking so highly of this place for 3 years, we finally made it to Greenville and had a great time all day leading up to this reservation. The service was very good and we didn't have to ask for anything. My wife ordered the salmon and I ordered the filet. The salmon came out and had a pungent fish smell and tasted terrible. The $60 filet came out as a 4 oz filet with probably a quarter of a cup of potato sticks and 3 of the smallest potatoes halved. My wife had to send her salmon back and didn't order anything else. No manager came to see what her concern was. The filet had a decent taste but for $60 I was expecting either a bigger portion or an amazing flavor. On the way out we rode the elevator down with a group of guys that were also disappointed with the portion sizes. We all went to perfect buns and were able to get full off of a properly priced burger. Terrible experience, never going back. read more

Great cocktails & atmosphere! My husband & I came for a date night. We were impressed with the floral walkway and views of the city. I tried the rich girl and the risk it for the hibiscus cocktails. Mixed bag here. Overall, the ambiance is loud and bustling. Perhaps fun for a bridal shower or other event, but very difficult for casual conversation at your table without raising your voice. However, honestly, the rooftop location can't be beat for an amazing sunset view of Greenville. The majority of tables have a window, or close to window view, so everyone gets a share of the scenery. The food was good. No complaints about the quality or taste. My issue was with proportions. Appetizers/shareables were HUGE. The focaccia was an entire large loaf of bread. Way too much for 2-4 people to share as an appetizer. Salads also huge, so order one to share between 4 people as an appetizer. In comparison, the entrees seemed petite. The Bao bun was 3 "street taco" sized buns, with no sides. Not a full dinner without a side or appetizer. Since they advertise as a "Gin Bar", my husband ordered a Sutler's Gin and Tonic. We don't know what the house tonic is, however the cocktail was unbalanced and bitter. Also, the ice in the cocktails was well ice (like you get in a 10 lb. bag at a convenience store). Perfect for keeping a cooler full of beer cold, but not optimal for a high end cocktail. I would've expected much better for such a gin-focused bar, especially with how many other bar/restaurants in Greenville are really stepping up their craft cocktail game. Most troublesome, however, was the complete lack of visible Covid restrictions in place, considering we are a high risk state right now. No staff or customers were masked, and the place was packed. People were up and walking around everywhere, including a singer, who was wandering from table to table while singing...singing which is known to be a rapid way to spread the virus, and crowds were packed together in the entrance taking selfies. I put on a mask when I was on the elevator, and while walking to the table and to the restroom, which was met by stares from customers and staff (as we were the ONLY masked people). Luckily our table was on the "outside" portion of the patio. If we had been seated inside, I would not have stayed for dinner. read more

Juniper - VERY picky woman enjoying great food and drink (Big Red...try it) at Juniper. Second time here. Hooked. A bit noisy but otherwise a gem. - New American Near Me - Greenville, South Carolina

Well, this one was puzzling. After a wait of at least several weeks, and possibly several months, I was able to get a reservation early in the evening. As a cocktail connoisseur, and a lover of gin cocktails in particular, I was eagerly awaiting my experience of this highly acclaimed new joint. Maybe I should say highly hyped instead of highly acclaimed. I understood from other reviews that they also served food, that it was probably overpriced, and that the menu was very small. However, I went into my experience with as much openness as possible, hoping for the best, as I always do. In short, Juniper does not live up to its hype. (Though not because it is newly opened, as I'll explain in a moment.) Also, it seems in reality to be a botanical-themed club for women in their mid-20s. I say that not as an insult either to women of that age nor to this restaurant, but I would guess that 90% of the patrons I saw were women in their 20s, and the average age of the servers and mixologists also looked to be around 23. That's all fantastic if these workers are excellent at their craft, but that was really not the case. Everyone was very nice, but I'm not sure that anyone really knew what they were doing. The mixologist didn't know how to shake a cocktail, and almost every hostess or server I interacted with spoke in a way that made me think I was at a bar and grill. Now, don't get me wrong. I want this restaurant to succeed. I would love nothing more than for Juniper to become one of the greatest destinations in this beautiful city. But right now, the main thing it has going for it, other than its hype, is its admittedly lovely interior design -- which extends all the way from a profusion of (artificial) flowers and greenery down to rather lovely utensils. But both the cocktail program and the food program seem to be rather confused. I ordered the cauliflower as an appetizer, primarily because I'm gluten-free and couldn't order the more interesting-sounding bread. When it arrived, it seemed like the dish was plucked right out of a bar and grill, and tidied up a bit on a plate. The flavors were cheap. I couldn't even finish it. It seemed like such an insult to its surroundings. Apologies to whomever created, it, but it does not belong at this restaurant. The drink I had to accompany it was All She Wrote, a gin-based drink off the surprisingly short menu of gin-based drinks (where are the HOST of gin-based classics, or pre-Prohibition drinks, or actually innovative drinks?). It had some nice flair, in the form of a cotton candy garnish, but it tasted far too simplistic for a place attempting to sell cocktails for $16 in a city where there are half a dozen places making far better cocktails than this for significantly less. My server described it as basically lemonade. The main course was confusingly much better. I ordered the Long Island steak, and it was nicely seasoned, with delicious sauces and an excellent cut of meat. However, the drink I ordered to go along with it--the Big Red-- was both a perfect match for it and an impossible match for it. This was a significantly more successful cocktail, as a cocktail. The flavors (based on red peppers and two amari) were quite nice, and a good complement to the steak. However, it had a huge spun sugar garnish poking out of it, which I admit was nice to look at, but which made drinking from the glass almost comical. In addition, the cocktail was filled with cubed ice, which I don't think I have seen anywhere other than the cheapest bars in town. I'm writing this review not because I like writing negative reviews (I don't, at all), but because I would love for nothing more than there to be an excellent, actually gin-based cocktail bar in Greenville. This is not a gin-based cocktail bar. Not even close. It also does not have food nor service on the level of what Greenville has come to expect. So when you hype a restaurant this big, and it does not deliver on food, drinks, or service, it's a little puzzling. But maybe not so puzzling when the clientele is so young that they may not know any different. To those of you running this restaurant, I wish you the very best. But you need to seriously up your game on your food and drink programs. You also need to train your lovely staff to know how to speak and act and serve in a restaurant at the price point you're probably wanting to stay at. The environment is lovely, and I hope that in the next several months, I see some reviews that show improvements have been made. At that point, I may feel comfortable taking my wife here. Glad I ran a scouting trip in advance, just in case. If you're a woman in your 20s, this might already be perfect for you! If you're not ... well ... there are much better options. read more
