Outside of one issue, our meal at The Anchorage was fantastic. The food is delicious and presented artfully, the service is prompt, the atmosphere is casual yet smart. Let me get to the issue first. We were a table of 6 and any party of 6 or more is required to do the tasting menu at $85 per person. We were there to celebrate my daughter's birthday, so it was not an issue, but this really should be stated up front when taking reservations, when confirming reservations and upon arrival. I'm sure this has resulted in some awkward exchanges for those not prepared. That being said, The Anchorage deserves the accolades it has been given. Every dish was spectacular, from the beet salad to start the meal to the apple pie to finish. We had crispy arancini that was the nights favorite, and the short ribs melted in our mouths. The portions are modest, yet we all left satisfied. There were three vegetable forward dishes, the beet salad, an Asian leaning cabbage dish and a carrot dish with a delicious sauce. In all we sampled 8 dishes and three desserts, as well as a bread service that came with an unctuous bourbon liver mousse. You will have a magnificent meal and experience there. read more

The tasting menu is everything you see on the menu. It's really fun for the indecisive. They portion it pretty well so you can eat everything and still be full. All of the salads are amazing. I think the only misses are the Spaghetti Carbonara and the Seared Black Cod. The "Doublecream" Arancini was phenomenal. The bourbon liver mousse was astounding. The hamachi tiradito was great. The Braised Chatel Farms Beef Shortribs are fork tender. All of the desserts were really sweet. I didn't like any of them, far too indulgent. The service was great. We got low on water in the end. The restaurant is a bit cramped but there's seating on the outside and upstairs. read more

My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner and had an overall good experience. We made a reservation for bar seats which are upstairs. The server was attentive and knowledgeable and we liked the vibes of the place - it felt casual yet sophisticated, kind of like their menu. The menu is definitely unique, it's small portion dishes and we were told the tasting menu is the recommended option but we opted to order off the menu. We each selected a glass of wine from the wine list - the server let us try a few we were curious about, which we really appreciated. It looked like they have some great wines and the ones we ended up going with were both great. For food we ordered tuna crudo, arancini, spaghetti and black cod. I would say both tuna crudo and arancini were amazing, especially the arancinis. Both spaghetti and black cod were meh, nothing special. I had high hopes for spaghetti carbonara - they supposedly make the pasta fresh daily - but it ended up tasting pretty mid, which was disappointing. Black cod was okay, wasn't very flavorful in my opinion. Although we noted on our reservation that it was our anniversary and both the host and the server said happy anniversary to us, no complimentary dessert or any sort of gesture from the restaurant was given. So when I think of a place that I would take someone to in order to showcase how hip and trendy I am, this would be it. However, it is not a restaurant I would visit due to hunger. Located in West Greenville Village, Anchorage has a great location, creative menu, hip vibe and an air of exclusivity. However that is where the magic ends. I've never spent $100 at a restaurant and left still hungry. Unfortunately that's what happened last night. The rest of my party seemed to enjoy their entrees of Pork Belly and Stablefish, even though their portions were on the small side. I was excited to try the anchovy puttanesca, but was dismayed to be served a $20 plate of it that consisted of more or less a spatula full of pasta. Despite this, I remained polite and we left the restaurant without incident. By the way, Taco Bell is really killing it with their Luxe Cravings boxes, just FYI. Outstanding servers and staff. They were very accommodating to our newborn situation. We got 2 tasting menus and I can't say I disliked anything. Very much worth the money. To top it off the cocktails were on point. Just ordered mezcal margs but you'd be surprised how many bartenders jack a marg up. Great selection of wines from what I saw. We took home a nice bottle of orange wine for a Christmas party. The ambience and cleanliness was on point too. Great looking art. I was SO excited to return to anchorage for the first time since 2020. I remembered vividly how much we loved the tasting experience and also an amazing mocktail that I had during that visit when I couldn't drink. My husband and I finally went back with a couple friend of ours who didn't love their first experience but wanted to try it out again (they didn't do the tasting the first time and regretted that - I agree that that $80 pp four course tasting experience is the way to go. The issue is the whole table does have to do it. But it's curated by chef and you get to basically try the whole menu. The plates on their own are a bit small if ordered individually and they left hungry the first time. With the tasting, you get your fill of everything!!) What we LOVED this visit: 1. Each main course of dishes before dessert were all delicious just as we remembered- so fresh and I love that the menu is very seasonal with the freshest ingredients. 2. The plating was beautiful on each dish as well. The standouts were the peach salad, charred cauliflower, stuffed pasta with escargot, bread service, pork, and mountain trout. 3. The unanimous favorite between the 4 of us was the pasta - it's served family style and we all wished there was more of the pasta because it was SO incredibly delicious. What we didn't love: 1. The mocktail fell pretty flat this time. I was looking forward to that (ironically couldn't drink on this visit either) because I remember how good and custom and unique they made it for me last time. This time the server gave me only 2 generic mocktail options, basically a strawberry cordial that sounded syrupy sweet and a lemon lime option. I went with the latter and it was underwhelming, very sweet and basically a lemonade. A big step back from the mocktail I had last time and not creative at all, sadly. I've found so many good ones around GVL lately so it surprised me to see that theirs was so basic. 2. Service was not as great as we remembered but we all have our off days. The man who seated us kind of just clicked his tongue to let us know to follow him to our table, didn't really say anything at all except telling us who'd be our server and kind of seemed annoyed - it was a bit odd but maybe he just had an off night. Just Wasn't the friendliest or best way to start the experience. Our server was very friendly! She did have trouble splitting our check at the end - she brought one check and we asked to split between the 2 couples, and we were told they couldn't split a bottle of wine 2 ways that was shared (which we do often at other places) and then when we said ok and just asked for individual drinks to be put on individual checks, there was an error and it had to be voided and so it led to possible double charges on both cards. It wasn't complicated bill to split so that was odd to me - we've never had that issue and I've been in service industry so I know that bill splitting isn't that difficult so I don't love that some restaurants avoid doing it or try to act like they "can't do it". Especially when the total is around $300 per couple (with tip included). Not a huge deal just a bit inconvenient. 3. Lastly, the desserts were sadly underwhelming. The meal was so delicious so we were excited for the finish - they sounded great and looked beautiful but they really lacked flavor. The chocolate tarte was one dimensional and it was just hard to end on a note that wasn't high after such delicious main dishes!! All in all, we did win over our friends because they enjoyed doing the tasting much more than their last visit. And we still love the Anchorage and see it as a true foodie experience and we would definitely return again!! read more

Great experience. We went with another couple and were seated upstairs. The place does. have ambiance. The upstairs is an old bar looking place with some character. We all selected the "Tasting Table". The menu currently says it's a four course meal, and that everyone at the table must order it for it to be served. Our meal was more like 7 or 8 courses. We also picked up a couple of bottles of nice wine. I'm not going to get into the details of the meal since we basically had everything on the menu. It was a serious experience with everything served having quite complex and flavorful recipes. We had a wide range of dishes ranging from beets to grits, to a beef tartar to cod. The progression trailed off between 2nd and 3rd courses. Second loaded with flavor and a bit of spice but the 3rd mellowed down the boldness of the 2nd. However, trout in 3rd course was amazing. Wow Great small tapas plates! Sat at the bar enjoyed learning from Emily! To start out with the homemade bread and in-house made butter and liver pate we're so so tasty and I'm normally never eat liver pate and this was delicious. It was almost like a whipped butter It was so smooth Yellowfin tuna was tasty light with tiger blood orange and watermelon radish. Light tasty and fresh Followed by butternut squash with Pesto and tasty cheese shavings.. there is no way a description can do this justice. It's not hot and it's not cold --fresh and again flavorful. Short rib pasta dish was not overpowering nor too heavy with in-house pasta made In addition we had homemade desserts one with strawberries and in-house cream . While in Greenville for a weekend getaway, my husband and I decided on The Anchorage to celebrate our anniversary. We both ate our hearts out and loved everything we tried. There were a number of vegetarian options including local bitter greens (one of the best salads I've ever had), tahina hummus, rainbow carrots, and the farro verde. It was so refreshing to see such creative vegetarian options like these!! For dessert, we tried all three options (I would not recommend doing this for two people but my husband's a big dessert guy lol) and we were incredibly full after having ever last bite because everything was so good! Excellent service, beautiful atmosphere and in a cute walkable area! We had no issue grabbing street parking on a Saturday night. The tasting table option is the way to go- it just wouldn't be fair to all the other menu items if you ordered ala carte and left any one dish unselected. Fell in love with The Anchorage the first time we came here and immediately came back for an anniversary dinner the following week. I love the ambiance of The Anchorage with a farmhouse interior and an open kitchen concept. They also have a bar upstairs with a small rooftop terrace as well as outdoor seating. We were so impressed with the food and drinks. Their menu changes frequently since they use local produce. I'm pretty sure their cheese board doesn't leave the menu though and this is an absolute must try. They have stecca bread from Swamp Rabbit Cafe, liver pate, a variety of cheeses and meats as well as jam, honey and pickled vegetables. It was a very impressive cheese board. read more

Incredible! My husband and I were able to snag a Saturday reservation at the bar (which is our typical preference when it's just the two of us) and ordered the tasting menu per suggestion of the bartender. It's $75 per person and you get tastings of everything on the menu. It's a great way to try everything and not miss out. With each round, the dishes served became more and more flavorful. My only regret was not capturing photos to share with you. But promise to do so next time we go. So if you're tired of the downtown scene and want a culinary experience, check out The Anchorage. The ambiance is exceptional as is the staff. The food is delicious; however, for the price, we were disappointed and left seeking food from elsewhere to supplement. We don't go out very often like this, but for $130+ after tip, we have had much larger portions with more meat and dessert at other reservation type restaurants. This meal included a side plate of vegetables, a small flank steak dish, and a small trout dish and two glasses of Pinot noir. Again, delicious, but portions did not match price. read more

This restaurant blew us away. My fiancé and I had been wanting to try it for a while and just got the chance to go last night. I wish I would have remembered to take pictures because everything was beautifully plated but we wanted to dig right in. I would definitely recommend doing the tasting, it's pricey but 100% worth it with all the fresh, local ingredients. I can't remember all the dishes but the standouts were the fresh bread and liver mousse butter (don't knock it til you try it!), ahi tuna, tagliatelle shrimp, braised lamb, and catfish. The vegetarian dishes were amazing and had great flavor as well but too many different ingredients to name. They have an extensive wine list for such a small restaurant but could use a few more beers. Our server was great as well as everyone bringing out the dishes and explaining them to us. I highly recommend this place, it's definitely one of our new favorites and we plan on going more often as the menu is always rotating! read more

First time here for a celebration. It was really interesting. We researched this restaurant before going every thing look great we could not wait we were so excited! Well we got there and let's just say I was kinda disappointed. No where on their website did it say small plates and everything was Alacart. We had gotten two pork belly's which my people said it was delicious for like an appetizer for one . Small serving for $23.00 each . Our other friend had gotten the zucchini and Summer squash and literally that's all it was like a side dish. I had gotten the scallops which the chili oil was tasty in it but the scallops are paper thin and raw ( not cooked) . It was a good experience ,we won't be back. It's very expensive. But the restaurant was nice and clean the staff wasn't overly friendly. I feel like our waitress was there just to work ! She did how ever answer our question but I could tell she really didn't like her job... she was just there to be there! This restaurant doesn't sell full dinners ( like whole meal) ! Absolutely exceptional night out. The interior is beautiful, love the open kitchen. The staff was more than professional while still being friendly and just incredible. Our server gave us descriptions for each meal and helped guide us through ordering. The food itself did not disappoint either! I had a grass fed steak entree, and my company had lamb raviolis and grilled cheese. For dessert we tried the authentic mexican churros and our server also told us the story about how those came to be which was great, and we had some sort of pistachio postre as well. Last Friday was a most amazing experience. Hopefully my review does it justice. My date and are both keto and when I made the reservation on Resy I noted that I'd like to discuss low carb options on arrival. Little did I know that they customized the whole meal (5 course tasting menu) for us! It started out with a charcuterie platter (sans bread) that had killer sopressata and a liver mousse that had a unique consistency. On the side we each had a Virginia oyster on the half shell with a spicy pepper (banana?) topping. The next course was amazing. It was a "Fromage blanc" cheese with heirloom tomatoes, grilled corn and peaches (on the side... for keto).. Next was beef tartare and a second dish ahi tuna with a Thai style slaw. The tartare had fresh cilantro and was oh, so tasty. Next we had grilled vegetables and a cucumber yogurt dish along with pork belly. By now, the involuntary drooling for the next course had commenced! Ok, now for a keto dessert. How would Chef Alex pull this off? Here's how. Warm ricotta with shaved chocolate and ground hazelnuts. I would 100% recommend The Anchorage to anyone traveling to Greenville. The restaurant has ample parking nearby, it's clean and beautiful. We sat upstairs at the bar and enjoyed the atmosphere. If you get a choice, sit at the bar and enjoy the service from the knowledgeable bartenders. The menu is adventurous and definitely unlike one you expect to see in Greenville. We celebrated a birthday here by both ordering the tasting menu, which is an absolute steal at $65 for the variety of plates you receive. The meal started with a sourdough bread with cultured butter. We could not get enough of the bread. Since the menu changes, let me just say my favorite thing on the tasting menu on 6/4 was the Grilled Grass Fed Beef, so perfect with blue cheese and potatoes. The Anson Mills Carolina Gold Risotto was a close second. I didn't want to fill up on risotto but I could not stop eating it. The Burrata served here is a can't miss! We both said we were surprised how flavorful the cheese was on its own. The cocktails are properly made and a pleasure to enjoy. I enjoyed an Old Fashioned and the Violet Beauregarde. The Violet was an effervescent, foamy soda that would have slipped down very easily had I already not been post-dinner. We ordered two desserts and I would recommend the Carrot Cake, if they have it. Overall, it was a nice evening. We got seated about 5 min after our reservation time but the tables were so close together that my husband and I felt like we were at a communal dining table. Our server was extremely busy and we had to wait a good bit for her but another waiter took our drink orders while we waited. When our server finally arrived she was apologetic and sweet and we're not jerks so we were understanding. After inspecting the small menu we opted for the 4 course tasting menu so we could try everything. We also asked our non waiter if we could do a wine pairing with the dinner and she obliged but our wine pairing never showed up...Any who we were distracted by how delicious the first course was and our real waiter brought me a delicious chardonnay that I very much enjoyed. The first course consisted of the scallop ceviche, a twist on a caesar salad and glazed beets. OH. MY. GOODNESS. If that was my last meal on earth I would not be mad. Our waiter informed us that the lettuce in our salad was more than likely picked earlier that morning from somewhere down the street. You could tell how fresh it was and the balance of the white anchovy with the tang of the dressing was impeccable. I was also pleased to find some shaved kohlrabi, which is not very popular or commonly seen in American dishes. The beets were great and fresh and the ceviche with the pickled jalapenos and chili oil were a perfect combination. 2nd course we had the burrata with peaches, divine! The pork loin with confit tuna, fried capers and some sort of aioli. This was better than I expected, mostly bc I am not a huge pork fan these days but my husband basically scooted the plate toward him and gave me the look of 'please let me eat all of this by myself.' LOL. The spaghetti with clams was meh and a little too lemony for my taste but still good. The last course was our least favorite and I think that was due to the first course absolutely knocking our socks off. We were getting pretty full anyhow so no harm no foul. We had swordfish, more pork and seared cauliflower. This course had the most mild flavors. We also had the zucchini chocolate cake for dessert which we almost fought over it was so good and very moist and decadent without being overpowering. All in all it was a great dinner with a few hiccups but we are huge foodies and LOVE tasting menus so we will be back to discover how the menu changes. read more

As a table of two, we chose to do the chef's tasting menu at $55 per person. You will not be disappointed or hungry after this meal. It started off with oysters and a charcuterie board, followed by tuna crudo with a "cheddar" cauliflower tartare. We then were served the agnolotti which had a unique chestnut bolognese. Our main entree was the snapper with carrots, brussels, and potato accompaniments. Finally, our dessert was a decadent, "fancy s'more". All of which are local, farm to table choices that were amazingly fresh tasting and served immediately from the open kitchen. While you did offer us an open table downstair, you didn't offer to comp our drinks, meal or anything. I don't know how much money it takes to qualify as a valued guest in your restaurant but I feel confident Halls, Urban Wren, Jianna, etc would have never treated us this way.
