It is found tucked behind the building with only a small, letter-sized paper sign marking the entrance. No flashy signage, no obvious storefront, which adds to the appeal if you're into that kind of hunt. Walking up to it late at night can be a little intimidating but it is well lit which I greatly appreciated! Once inside, the space is dimly lit and small, which makes for a genuinely intimate setting. I'd say it's good for a quieter, more conversational vibe rather than a loud night out. We went with the bartender's choice: pick a base liquor, then two words to describe what you're after. I went with vodka and "slightly sweet, refreshing," for $18. The bartender nailed the brief but it wasn't a drink I'd think about again or specifically order by name. Solid execution, forgettable flavor. Service was the real standout. Our bartender was excellent at walking us through the concept and translating vague requests into something that actually worked. That, plus the atmosphere, is enough to bring me back to see what else is on the menu since we made it there just in time for last call so I ended up only having one drink.

The name is written UP, in capital letters, which I appreciate as a safety measure. In lowercase,…read moresomeone could wander in off River Street assuming this was a ground-floor operation and be startled to find themselves on the eighth floor of an Embassy Suites. The capitals settle it. You are up. You are on the roof. Nobody is confused. I ordered There's a Lettuce Wrap!, exclamation point and all, which arrives as seven honey-soy glazed fried chicken wraps. Seven is an odd number to commit to, and I respected it. The chicken was crisp, the glaze landed somewhere between sweet and salty, and the lettuce made me feel like I'd ordered something light. I would eat it again tomorrow. The Reedy River and the Blue Ridge sit out past the railing doing their scenic work, and plenty of rooftops figure the skyline can cover for a mediocre kitchen. This one didn't need the cover. Mrs. W. was along, and UP earned her approval, which I never assume. She has standards and they are not up for negotiation, so watching a rooftop restaurant clear them felt like watching a long shot come in. The elevator ride back to the ground floor felt like a demotion.

Must do. If I ran this place I would stick to appetizers, flat breads, and cocktails. I would also make the sunset a bigger feature, more accessible (that side of the patio is as roped off and signs prevented you from even walking over to get a photo)....also the patio seating need to be smaller and more broken up. Anyhow view f the city is great and the staff is so kind, and helpful! And bartenders are good!

IIIII like good food and I cannot lie…read more.... I will preface this all by saying I have been coming to Greenville for almost 15 years for work. maybe only once a year but still... I love the city and the people. Fall for Greenville is fantastic!! Onto my review -- I was visiting Greenville for work this past week and was staying at the Aloft. I did a quick online search for a new food / dining destination when i saw ABYSS... Since it is right beside my hotel I decide to give it a go! Wow, what a treat. I sat at the bar. Bartender was top shelf Ali i think... She made me a paper plane without having to look it up . The happy hour menu was a pretty amazing value so i tried a couple of pieces from it. Bluefin "nachos" ie wontons.... Great!! Scallops and bacon sliders.. great!! Then I decided to also add the Wagyu - crispy rice. Also great!! But you know what else really sets this place apart? The Fries! Crazy but here's my take. Everyone is doing fancy pretentious, parm, truffle garlic blah blah blah.... These fries had a unique slender (thin but wide) cut, seasoned lightly. and cooked to perfection. you can tell they take it all very seriously here. from the Chefs all the way to the greeters. It's like they all took Yes chef training at "The Bear" IYKYK...Fantastic attentive service. Highly recommend and look forward to visiting again!

I don't know where to start. Love this place! Love the atmosphere. Love the servers…read more Absolutely, love the food!!!. Restaurant is attached to the Aloft in downtown Greenville. I got the raw oysters (3/$9) during happy hour where everything was 50%. Also got the bang, bang shrimp, burger and fried chix sandwich. All of the food was HOT, as it should be, and PERFECT. CANT MISS SPOT FOR HAPPY HOUR. LOVE IT!!!

I liked most that front end which obviously gets most of the attention is supported by the back end - yeah, a small bar counter toward the back where it's a bit quieter and you can more quickly get a drink. The two bartenders working back there were real cool and the area in the back keeps up with the sorta loungey atmosphere. Being more loungey than divey the crowd fit the bill, less regulars and more of a younger crowd and more newish pop music which was alright. Besides the bartenders being cool, the other staff were on point so as a group would leave/move away from a table the staff would quickly come in to clean it up and straighten up the chairs, so those details were nice to see and keeps the overall setting appealing. If you hanging with 2 or more people, and like a young crowd, I'd say this is the spot.

Dennis & Logan are two of the dopest bartenders out there who also know how to make a killer drink. I love coming here for Dennis' expert take on an old fashioned, which he has spent a lot of time and effort refining. And I don't kid when I say that this is Greenville's best old fashioned. The attitude behind the bar is very laidback, which will likely offput people expecting a pretentious, posh atmosphere. But if you want a drink made by people who care about what goes in your glass, trust me, pay Rey's a visit.
