    Calamari
    Carlos C.

I scouted the location prior to my visit, as the lamb lollipops and the escargot caught my eye. However, upon my arrival, I discovered that the majority of the menu were small plated shareables. The space is small and if I'm not mistaken, one server covered the entire floor. She did a decent job managing, although she honestly admitted totally forgetting one item that I ordered. I ended up ordering the gnocchi, lamb chops, potato wedges, gambas (shrimp) and calamari. They let you know up front that the food comes out as it's prepared and not all together. Temperatures were hot and the flavors were OK. If you're looking for a spot to socialize over cocktails and small plates, this is a great spot. I ended up ordering a pizza later that night because the plates definitely don't stick with you.

Pricey for small plates but the portions ended up being decent. There were lots of things to choose from for the custom charcuterie plate. The calamari was vey good. The added string beans were a nice surprise. I really enjoyed the kale Caesar (not overly dressed). The pan fried gnocchi was very tasty. Nice bar area.

I walked by this restaurant so many times while I was staying at a hotel nearby, but I didn't see too many people inside. Of course, my instincts told me that maybe the food was not good. But I eventually looked it up and found out that the menu was very interesting, and I liked the idea that most of the dishes were shareable. That evening, everywhere else was super busy, but they were not. The service was very good and very fast. The food turned out to be excellent. The chef put a lot of thought and effort into each dish. They were made with really fresh ingredients and the spices and flavors were just right. I couldn't think of anything bad to say about this place. I hope they will get more customers soon because I don't like a good restaurant not making it. By the way, I also like the no-frills ambience. It felt so comfortable and cozy.

Came here for a friends birthday, we had a group of about 10 and received wonderful service. I'm not sure how she kept track of all the apps, mains and drinks but she was friendly and efficient throughout our dinner. A lot of our group got the charcuterie which I thought was very small for the price but nice that you could build your own. I got the filet which was amazing, super flavorful and fresh. Again, the portion was a 6oz cut of meat and sides were very small so it wasn't a lot of food for the money but I did enjoy it very much. Would go back to try more dishes.

My new go to for date night, girls night, solo night. Etc. this is one of the few restaurants in Greenville, South Carolina, that really fosters an element where you can eat solo either at the bar, or at a table and feel completely fine, so kudos to them for having a cozy and comfortable ambience. Now for the food! We tried many things and all were tasty. My only comment was about the oysters Rockefeller, they were more creamy than a traditional Rockefeller but still tasty. If I had to pick one thing to focus on, and narrow it down to two items and pick the charcuterie board and the potatoes, which really took me by surprise, but when paired with their aïoli, it was absolutely fantastic! Service was excellent. We had Angie and she did a great job checking in on us and making sure we had the best experience while there.

Oh. My. God. You know how new spots have to work out the kinks before they get rolling? Well this place is rolling and I can't wait to see how it does. Pauly was our server/bartender and he was incredibly kind and knowledgable; and a candid comment from another person in my party is "they work their asses off in here". And if you've ever been to Greece, you need to come here for the food. Those grape leaves tasted like mamas. And the espresso martini...oh, the espresso martini. It was IMPECIBLE. I want to gatekeep to make sure I can always get a table, but it's too good not to share. This is beyond good for Greenville.

It is found tucked behind the building with only a small, letter-sized paper sign marking the entrance. No flashy signage, no obvious storefront, which adds to the appeal if you're into that kind of hunt. Walking up to it late at night can be a little intimidating but it is well lit which I greatly appreciated! Once inside, the space is dimly lit and small, which makes for a genuinely intimate setting. I'd say it's good for a quieter, more conversational vibe rather than a loud night out. We went with the bartender's choice: pick a base liquor, then two words to describe what you're after. I went with vodka and "slightly sweet, refreshing," for $18. The bartender nailed the brief but it wasn't a drink I'd think about again or specifically order by name. Solid execution, forgettable flavor. Service was the real standout. Our bartender was excellent at walking us through the concept and translating vague requests into something that actually worked. That, plus the atmosphere, is enough to bring me back to see what else is on the menu since we made it there just in time for last call so I ended up only having one drink.

Let me get to the issue first. We were a table of 6 and any party of 6 or more is required to do the tasting menu at $85 per person. We were there to celebrate my daughter's birthday, so it was not an issue, but this really should be stated up front when taking reservations, when confirming reservations and upon arrival. I'm sure this has resulted in some awkward exchanges for those not prepared. That being said, The Anchorage deserves the accolades it has been given. Every dish was spectacular, from the beet salad to start the meal to the apple pie to finish. We had crispy arancini that was the nights favorite, and the short ribs melted in our mouths. The portions are modest, yet we all left satisfied. There were three vegetable forward dishes, the beet salad, an Asian leaning cabbage dish and a carrot dish with a delicious sauce. In all we sampled 8 dishes and three desserts, as well as a bread service that came with an unctuous bourbon liver mousse. You will have a magnificent meal and experience there.
