The Brooklyn Old Fashioned was delicious enough I had to have two. The fried chicken was super crispy and very tasty. The pastrami reuben was straight out of a NYC Jewish deli, a savory classic. Yes, it's touristy (mainly in Manhattan) and yes, it may not be high caliber food, but I have a soft spot for Juniors. As mentioned in a previous review, I was just a kid when my family and I would occasionally dine at Juniors for lunch and it has been in the same location for decades. Today's lunch at Juniors was impromptu since we were in the area. We snagged a comfortable booth and I noticed patrons from couples to large groups just having a good time including birthday celebrations. Our server was a delight and very welcoming. After answering a few questions, noting that lunch prices do not apply to weekends and trying to start the year off healthy, we both chose the Roast Turkey sandwich (sans cheese). As a complimentary gesture, our server brought pickled treats to the table: beets, Cole slaw and pickles. Delicious. The sandwiches (one ordered with a side of fries for a bit of cheating) arrived shortly. For $18.95, don't expect a humongous, piled high sandwich. While it was more than filling for us, the portion didn't match the price. (Hey, prices have zoomed up everywhere). My sandwich on Whole Wheat was quite good. Bread was soft, turkey (the Thanksgiving kind) was moist and delicious and we both savored it. A few fries to accompany the sandwich was a nice touch--steak cut, hot and without the salt that is sometimes automatically sprinkled on top. Overall, this sandwich was a winner and I'm not even a sandwich person. I couldn't help but notice the aroma of food being served to other tables--half chicken, burgers and the ever so famous cheese cake. A visual delight. We were told the bakery is no longer in house at the Brooklyn location therefore the complimentary mini Danish pastries brought to tables ended (an on going tradition that goes back since forever). I think the food is a solid 3.5 and the cheesecake (which we opted to not have) merits a 5. However, Juniors is one of those restaurants that offers a feel good comforting experience. One of NYCs & America's classic restaurants. The bar here is a true slice of life. Their cornbread is back - and therefore, so am I. They make a mean split pea soup, & great buffalo chicken wings. Their Caesar salad is on point, & they also have matzoh ball soup & potato latkes. I don't usually get their corned beef or brisket, but those are also great here. They have always been expensive compared to restaurants serving similar fare, but since the prices at almost all places in NYC have gone WAY up, their prices are now pretty much average. First, the staff have been here a long time there's a vibe when you walk in you feel like you've come to the diner heaven in the middle of Brooklyn. Service is great pricing is not too bad the cheesecakes to die for especially at room temperature. The decor's exactly the way it was pretty well since it was built. The bathrooms are clean. The kitchen is clean. The seating is a little dated, but you don't care about that. You're in the place that you call Home to have the best comfort food around. Try the corned beef, hash, and eggs. It is some of the best. To be quite frank the menu is huge. I had the pastrami sandwich. It was absolutely delicious. I had a cheeseburger the other night typical diner food began every time you've been into it. You wanted to bite it again and again. I talked to a couple of the staff about how long they've been here and why they were still here and I agree it's because they get treated right I got a chance to meet the general manager at delightful human made me feel welcomed love to talk about the original the OG Jr's in Brooklyn and how special it is. So it was an amazing experience. I've been to the one in Times Square month not this one. This one opened in the 1950s. The ambience is great. It's got a lot of character. The host is very nice and very accommodating. We sat down and took a little bit longer than it should've to get coffee candidly. So if I have one complaint it was that the coffee service could've been better. But that's a small complaint. My wife had French toast and bacon and I had the Western omelette without the ham. It was amazing. It was really really good. The home fries were great. And the toast had just enough butter on it. My wife had the French toast, which was awesome. She really liked it. She was so full she didn't even eat all her bacon. If you're looking for a cheap breakfast cheap this is not your place. I think our bill was between 50 and $60 for two people. If you go for lunch, order the corned beef sandwich, and pastrami sandwich combo. Staff was friendly and inviting. Lots of cool decor that has been collected since the restaurant was opened. The food was fantastic. Disco Fries were really good. We took the cheesecake to go because the portions were so big. Definitely one of the best cheesecake I have eaten. I got Funfetti. It's a mix of their cheesecake and Funfetti cake. I'm sure I've had breakfast items from Junior's but their strawberry cheesecake is so good, I can't remember anything else I ordered! Over the years, I've tried all their cheesecakes and there's not one that I haven't enjoyed. I've also ordered their cheesecakes for delivery (shipped frozen) to share with long distance friends. I really, really like their cheesecakes!! Mind you, I've never dined in the restaurant itself, so I can't speak on the dining experience or any of the savory options, but the cheesecake slices really hit the spot. We were able to get late night slices quickly. The strawberry shortcake was my absolutely favorite and my partner loved the decadence and large serving he received of the ice cream, which went well with the strawberry cheesecake. I've also had a birthday cake cheesecake from here before which held up really well when transported. Would come here any day and recommend anyone to come here as well! read more

I was introduced to this Junior's Restaurant location by yelper Letty C, a yelper out of Brooklyn, NY who visited, and reviewed. Once I noted its location being very close to my hotel in downtown Brooklyn, it became a must visit for me because I missed the opportunity to visit the Manhattan location months ago while visiting for United Airlines NYC Half Marathon. Out of its extensive menu, I ended up ordering side orders of mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and a cherry cheesecake! I honestly felt as though I could not order from Junior's Restaurant of all places and not order a cheesecake, being that Junior's is known for cheesecake. I always love ordering online via yelp because it is convenient! Most of the time my orders are completed upon my arrival or near complete. By the time I arrived at Junior's my order was waiting for me behind the counter during this ordering experience. Picking up was just a verification that I was picking up a Grubhub order, as well as showing the email confirmation to the employee. Grateful to have had a smooth online ordering experience because the likelihood of me ordering online again at the location is very high. As for my food, the macaroni and cheese was the first of the two sides I started off with eating. I am still flabbergasted that it is considered a side because it appeared as though it could be more than that. I really enjoyed it as I hummed Digable Planets song "Rebirth Of Slick (Cool Like Dat) " which popped into my head as I walked back to my hotel. Now as for the mashed potatoes, they tasted good! I felt that they were perfectly made and satisfying with or without gravy. After eating both sides, I had to use every ounce of energy I had to work out because I literally just wanted to spread out across my bed and sleep, tehehe. And lastly, that luscious looking cherry cheesecake that I just had to have from Junior's. I ended up eating it the following day because I was so full after eating the side orders. And I kid you not, I had the sneakiest grin on my face each time I stuck my fork inside, pulling out each chunk of that delightful tasting piece of heaven that I smile each time I reminisce about. Needless to say that I had a great experience as I have clearly indicated in this review of Junior's Restaurant. I would surely re-visit again whenever staying in downtown Brooklyn.
