When it comes to a diner usually expectations are not too high. We just came from NJ and Candlewyk diner in East Rutherford is miles away in food. My meatballs with spaghetti is a big portion, but meatballs were dry and spaghetti were meh. Service was ok, water was refilled. Salad was pretty simple, at least requested honey mustard dressing was available. It's a cash only place, ATM is available on premises. Now bathroom is a complete disaster- sharing for both sexes , no toilet paper. I can see a pretty brisk business in delivery using DoorDash(with credit card). In conclusion - maybe it's OK for Brooklyn, but after living in NJ for a long time (which is by the way the undisputed capital of all diners in USA) this diner needs a lot of improvement in food quality. read more

Expecting a steak but was fine with a large beef patty and it comes with a side salad or soup along with vegetable and dessert. Great price for the portions $20. The egg burger was good too. Flan slice was humongous. This reminds me of a classic diner and the food was good. Our server was great. Super nice. I got the chocolate donut from the pictures didn't like it, was slightly dry. I was looking for a meal to eat in the area, and most places on the block were closed - it was already 9 pm. Lucky for us, this diner is open 24 hours! When I arrived, a lot of tables were being served, so I figured it was going to be a good spot to order food. I was not disappointed! We also got one of their sandwich specials, the MTA, which came with grilled chicken, bacon, lettuce, and tomato on a pita bread with tzatziki sauce. It's been so long since I have dined in an actual diner, so when my friend who was visiting from out of town asked me where we can go for a quintessential diner experience, I was completely dumbfounded. We made our way to this establishment and were not disappointed!! This a small little space tucked away on the corner of 7th Ave and 9th St, right across the road from Smiling Pizza. As you enter, the extensive and abundant donut stand greets you. It's quite cozy inside with countertop seats and tables. I went with the veggie omelette and a side of avocado. Our food came out pretty quickly, and I particularly liked the butter toast that was served on the side with the salted butter quietly oozing away in between the slices. My omelette was made well, had the perfect ratio of vegetables. Potatoes tasted good, I was really happy that they weren't super greasy. We also ordered a small stack of two pancakes to share just for that sweet indulgence. The pancakes here I believe, have a little bit of cornmeal in them because they had an interesting texture, which I really liked. You can totally tell this is a classic neighborhood place, lots of local families and people just chilling and relaxing inside enjoying their meal. However on 9/10/26 between 4:00-5:00 an employee continued to have a conversation with her friend while I stood there for a while and looked at her and her friend. The apple turnover that I had was absolutely scrumptious. Not too sweet and the dough was perfectly soft. There were a few misses though. The onion soup was not very good. I'm a huge fan of this diner. I believe the same family that own this donut shop also owns the diner on 5th Ave and 39th because I would see some of the same staff, at both locations. It's an old school style veggie burger, where there's chunks of vegetables in it, which I like--it's a shame you can't get those most places anymore, only trendy fake meat ones. I like the ambiance here, or rather the lack thereof. Sure it could be more diner-y, but at least it doesn't have a kitschy, fake diner feel. Also the service is good--the waitstaff are friendly and attentive despite the odd hours.
