Okay, so this may be my favorite restaurant in all of Imperial Valley. It's got just one downside: it's not open on weekends. However, I gotta admit, if I owned a restaurant that was as reliably successful as this one during weekdays, I would give myself every weekend off too. First off, it's locally & family owned--YAY! Don't let their motto, "Eat. Pay. Get out" deter you! Junior's is a friendly, clean and delicious place to stop for a very decent bite to eat. Fresh brewed i e is served in generous liter-sized carafes; tortillas appear to be pressed by hand; the Huevos Rancheros is authentic (not a cheesy-gooey watery mess) and perfectly prepared; even the oatmeal is extra large rolled oats served with plenty of brown sugar and raisins (just what the doctor ordered) and has such a nice texture that no milk or cream was necessary. Bathrooms were spotless. The dining room smelled clean without antiseptic odor - just the fragrance of delicious food. Very simply outfitted with upholstered booths for your road-weary behind and also wooden chairs and tables for easy handicapped access and large group seating. The off-street parking behind the restaurant is spacious enough for your rig and there is plenty of area to walk the dog. Use the front or back entrance. On short notice Juniors Cafe stepped up and catered my grandmothers memorial service. The food was delicious and they provided everything we needed. We had a wide variety of choices to select from. They were professional and caring in a sensitive time. They were diligent in keeping the food refreshed throughout the reception and very helpful consolidating the leftovers into to go containers. Worth stopping for a quick detour! Traveling from PHX to San Diego and needed some breakfast. Found thru Yelp reviews and didn't disappoint! Very friendly and quick service. Kids ate 2 huge pancakes and Husband had ham and cheese omelet with hashbrowns. I got eggs and the best biscuit and sausage gravy outside of my home state of IN! Even got to top off my travel mug with ice water for the road. So glad we didn't settle with a chain restaurant. All around happy with our experience! The staff is friendly and attentive my table was clean ketchup bottle was sticky when i grabbed it but my food was terrible the worst country fried chicken and biscuits and gravy i had ever had i don't like wasting food but i couldn't continue to eat it so i decided pay my bill and leave a tip and went have a another meal at Ihop ... i can't say that all their food is terrible i wouldn't know. We love this place. We have been here several times over the years. They have limited hours and I think they close for vacation, so check first. The food and service is most excellent. I love it that they place an entire carafe of tea on your table, rather than having to keep filling your glass. I wish more places did this. When I arrived in El Centro, I asked many folks what was the best place to eat in town. They all said, "Applebee's." How depressing is that! Anyway, those folks were just wrong. Junior's is my hands-down choice for the best place to eat in El Centro. Open from 7am to 2pm, it's great for breakfast or lunch. They try to use local ingredients, pricing is very fair, and portions are large. I love the ham and Swiss omelette, usually taking half of it to work for lunch. Liked the Yelp ratings for this place and decided to swing by for a breakfast. Appearances weren't too appealing but the food was delicious. I had the veggie omelette with hash browns and the portions were huge. Veggies included tomatoes (whole slices), what seemed to be an entire red bell pepper, mushrooms, and diced onions. No cheese which surprised me but it actually let the flavors of the veggies come through a bit more. The hash browns were how i like them, extra crispy. The wife had the basic egg and bacon breakfast and liked how runny the sunny side up came out. I was impressed with the quality of the bacon. Nice thick slices. Overall, a good choice for breakfast and will keep this place in mind for the next time we swing through. read more

Found this place via Yelp. If in El Centro it is a good breakfast or lunch place. A little off of I-8 but worth the drive. Do not be taken back by the outside appearance and it can be hard to find. The outdoor sign is faded. Parking in the back and front. Inside the service is friendly, good food and clean restaurant. Lots of locals and regulars here. They make a great machaca and really yummy refried beans. Breakfast is always good. We also love the home style potatoes. We usually order one with the beans and one with potatoes and share. First time I came here, I was so confused purely because of its location. However, I come in and the restaurant is pretty busy and all, but the servers still came by to see if I needed anything. I ordered the Roast Beef hot sandwich and wanted a clam chowder with it. It tasted pretty damned amazing, but I was disappointed that it didn't have vegetables. So the next time I came by, I ordered the same thing with lettuce and tomatoes and it tasted absolutely amazing. The clam chowder is homemade and you can tell it is as well. The bacon inside did throw me off, but it started to grow on me and I honestly started to like it quite a bit. If you are passing through or are forced to work in "the Center", the best lunch place to seek out is Juniors in El Centro (look for the Red Barn type looking place). Their menu is full of comfort food with chicken fried chicken, turkey, grilled chicken, etc. Their lunch plates are a great value (half plates are big enough for most) come with soup or salad, mashed potatoes and veggies of the day, plus some cornbread. The grilled chicken is always very flavorful (seasoned just right). They serve breakfast too, but I haven't been, but it looks like what you would expect from a nice diner type setup. My husband and I stopped here on our way to Sedona, AZ. I was kinda worried when I entered the restaurant because the building and inner decor weren't very impressive. Despite the initial impression, the place was packed, which allayed my concerns. I ordered a cup of chili with half a grilled cheese sandwich and a fresh sqeezed lemonade. My husband had a club sandwich with potato salad. The chili was hearty, the sandwich was crispy and buttery and complimented the chili very well. My lemonade tasted homemade and was very good but was a little on the sweet side. I stole some of my husband's potato salad,and it was creamy with red potatoes. I liked it because it didn't have the mustardy or pickled taste like so many other potato salads. My husband loved his club sandwich. The service was friendly and very efficient. We were in and out within half an hour. Though a little off the beaten path from the Interstate 8, it was worth the ten minute drive for lunch. read more

This place use to be better, it's really mediocre now and overpriced. They give you large plates with a lip on them to give the illusion of a large portion. But really they just spread the food out. We went for breakfast and it was completely pre-made. The chilequiles are ok but the biscuits and gravy taste like a pasty cream and dense bread. Everything is just warm,not hot. The potatoes are lukewarm and weren't even cut into pieces it was almost a whole half potato and large chunks. The whole breakfast was almost 30.00 with tip. People go to this place because it's a homey atmosphere and the same server and owner still greet you. They know you'll return because they serve the closest thing to home cooked food and have give good service. But the food isn't worth it. The chilaquiles were divine, they were able to keep some crunchiness with the tortillas and the salsa on top was as good as you'll find. I got a 1/2 order of machaca to go along with the chilaquiles and that did not disappoint either. All 8 of us ordered something different and all 8 of us raved about what we got. I always get icetea, which they bring you a glass and a big jug(couldnt think of the word) of tea so you dont have to wait for refills. Strong. Iced. Tea. That alone is enough to give them 5 stars. But I'll actually give you a little more than that. The place is very homestyle restaurant, which is what I was looking for anyway. I love these little holes in the wall because you never know what you're going to find. Usually it's a good thing but sometimes it can be a horror show. In this case it was definitely a good thing. The menu consists of typical American fare including Burgers, salads and sandwiches. I haven't had it for a long time so I ordered the chicken-fried steak plate. The portion was a huge round steak expertly battered and grilled. Came with homemade mashed potatoes; we're talking redskins chunky style. It also came with corn, but it was canned corn so I left it on the plate. There was also a little homemade corn muffin that was quite tasty. The potatoes and the chicken fried steak with smothered in a very good white gravy with lots of pepper. The salad was fresh and crisp and I couldn't tell if the dressing was canned or homemade but it was good. Big crispy croutons. A funny thing happened while I was waiting to order. This Big Ol Boy, looking like he was more comfortable behind the grill then out on the serving floor, comes over and gives me a side salad. I thought, how did this guy know I was going to order something with a salad? Turns out, that was Junior, the owner. He didn't realize that he had given the salad to the wrong table and quickly corrected the mistake. Thirty seconds later I ordered and my salad came about one minute later.
