The food is delicious. My husband and I go every time we are in town. I would recommend the desserts! They're so tasty.

We took a DAY TRIP to Borrego Springs from San Diego…read more We went to the Anza Borrego Visitor's Center FIRST, and went on their short PAVED WALK through the Desert Landscape. We then headed to RED OCOTILLO for Breakfast. It was utterly FANTASTIC, from the service to the food. We had as our server GLORIA. It took us a couple attempts on the LOOP to get the right EXIT. We walked in and were directed to a table by our SERVER GLORIA. We got a great table right up front by the window. She started, by taking our drink orders. We looked over the menu, admittedly looking at it the night before. I selected the HEUVOS RANCHEROS, and an Arnold Palmer. As for my partner, he had a CLASSIC DESSERT BURRITO. We added Chips and Guacamole, made fresh on the spot!!! It could not have been a BETTER EXPERIENCE!!!

The food was good. I do think a bit pricey but understandable since this is a pretty remote area. I got the chicken Marsala and I will say for me it was pretty bland. Specifically the pasta. I asked for pepper and Parmesan cheese and that definitely gave it more flavor! Note: make sure to ask without onions if you don't like them since the sauce comes with them. My husband said the taco salad was also ok. It wasn't a pretty big portion! Steak was good. My daughters shared the cheese penne pasta (we got the full size) and they loved it! It was really good. The garlic bread and bread and butter they gave us was also very good. The place itself was very nice, quiet, they also had lots of outdoor seating. Total for 3 plates and 4 drinks was $100.58.

I shall testify to the greatness that is Johnny's Burrito in Brawley California…read more We arrived there just as the local high school got out for lunch. Teenagers were absolutely pouring into the place since it's right across the street from the high school. A security guy standing in the door waved to us and ushered us in quickly and gave us our own register ahead of everyone else, since we weren't part of the regular high school crowd. We ordered and got our food in less than five minutes even while they were probably close to 100 teenagers swarming the place. I met Stella who was guarding the restrooms, who says she has worked there for 45 years. The place opened in 1963. The lunch rush is total chaos, but she took absolutely no crap from any of those kids, and they were very respectful, especially to her. Every one of the staff was really polite and kind, even a mid the lunchtime chaos. All of the meat is local, and they butcher it right there in the kitchen. It is still the best burrito we've ever had, and we make it a point on our drives from Arizona to San Diego to stop there each way. Absolute perfection.

It came and was honestly the size of a taco. Very small and not nearly enough food. For $13 I was still starving and had to go get more food...not only that but the chicken was very dry and chewy. Don't you just love it when a restaurant gets things right?…read more Owners Roberto and Rina ("Reina") Perez have figured out how to prepare and present home cooking in a commercial setting, and, in doing so, have shown that they understand the importance of "home" in that construct. Some of this is no surprise to me. Reina is cousin to Rodnia Attiq (nee Navarro), who, with her mother Rosario Sotelo owned San Diego's El Borrego for almost 25 years, until they closed their business at the end of 2025. Having been welcomed and fed many times with homely care at El Borrego, I'm not surprised that the family connection - and the warmth and hospitality included in it - extends to Cousin Reina. If you're having a bad day, it's worth dropping in for a bite to eat just so you can say "hi" to her. Between the food and the greeting you'll receive, you'll leave feeling better about things. So what to eat? Depending on the time of day and how hungry you are, you'll be pleased with Cazuelitas; Pozole Rojo or the herby Guerrero-style Pozole Verde; hearty Tlacoyos; large Enchilada plates; or probably my favorite Mexican dish, Mixiote de Borrego, which is lamb that's spiced, marinated and slow-steamed until it falls off the bone. I've eated most of those things and seen the rest on my fellow diners' tables. Especially now that El Borrego is gone, if El Centro wasn't a two-hour drive from my house, I'd be a regular, so that I could continue sampling the superb and wide-ranging menu at Antojito Como En Casa.
