I made reservations for a special celebratory dinner with my wife for 6:30 pm. We arrived at 6:38pm. We were then told that that our table was given away because they have a 5 minute grace period. We were never advised that there was a 5 minute grace period when I made these reservations. It is very unfortunate that they would turn away longstanding customers in this manner. If you're looking for a great steakhouse in El Centro, look no further. But be warned that it may cost a pretty penny. Came here on a weeknight as I was looking for the best restaurant in El Centro. I think this is probably the most upscale restaurant available in the city. When you first walk in the entrance (I actually got tricked because there are two sets of doors) youll notice it is pretty upscale and somewhat dim. The bar is located right in front, where you'll wait to be seated by the host. I was riding solo and sat at the bar. Ordered the ribeye (medium rare) which came with two sides. I chose the guacamole and asparagus, and also ordered myself a chabela (which I thought was actually a michelada, but the bartender told me it is a chabela). The ribeye was pretty delicious. Cooked to perfection, seasoned very generously (could argue it is a bit salty), but the overall portion was big. I thought the steak could be a little thicker but I was still quite stuffed. The manager confirmed that all their steaks are dry aged, which you can actually see a dry aged refrigerator right near the entrance. I may come back for the octopus when I'm in town. Looks amazing. However, my reservation is the sides do not call for their price tag nor were they generous with the presentation of the side guacamole. The cut of our ribeye was relatively fatty and thin. I wasn't as great a fan of the quality of steak for their price point. I came across Sonora Fusion when looking for a steak house in El Centro. (I figured steak in a place where they grow a lot of alfalfa is probably a good choice.) I am glad I went there. The food was very good. The menu had a variety of cuts and sizes of steaks. I ordered a New York steak with their special potatoes. The steak was cooked as ordered, was a nice size, and a good value for the price. The sauce they put on the special potatoes was very tasty and only slightly spicy, and went well with the steak. The service was very good. (Since there were tables available they sat me in a larger table in another part of the restaurant, even though I was a solo diner.) My food arrived fairly quickly and included a nice serrated steak knife. (I can't tell you how many steak houses I have been to where they forget to bring a knife that can actually cut steak.) On top of all that, when the check arrived, I as a cash payer, got a slight discount because by paying cash I help the restaurant avoid the transaction fees that come with a card when used as payment. This made me feel appreciated as a customer, as much as I appreciate how difficult it is to run a small independent business these days. The ambiance was calm relaxing and soothing until the 2 sweet 16 birthday party's started in the 2 halls upstairs. They bring it out on a rolling cart with the chef who flambé the steak table side. Excellent presentation that had me clapping ! Our sides (comes with two), were cheese stuffed peppers and beans. To start off with the wait time for our food was reasonable, staff wise they can be a little more attentive the only time we interacted was when we ordered and got our food. Don't order the house salad , Olive Garden has a better salad tasting wise and appearance as well, raw mushrooms and 2 big chunks of cucumber did not cut it, they should try a different side no point in wasting food if you know your customer won't eat it and it well end up in the trash. Shrimp Alfredo, still had the tail in , I don't know who would like it that way but it was messy trying to take them off, same with the bread it came with they should opt for something a little bit softer to chew on instead of burnt bread. The mango margarita they had tasted like nothing honestly it was very disappointing, but the berry margarita was really good I'll give that a 10. The steak was very very good 10/10 everything else was disappointing. After tasting hers we both thought it was a good 4 Stars for flavor and Value. I decided to go with The Specialty Pina Colada served in a real pineapple. It is the best Pina Colada I've ever had. We will definitely do those again. For the appetizer I ordered us The Queso Fundido, comes with hand made chorizo, Mushrooms, and peppers, also handmade corn and flower tortillas. 5 Stars. Next we tried the Ribeye stuffed cheese peppers. The peppers were tasty but sadly the Ribeye was far overcooked and burned. 1 Star. Next was The Grilled Shrimp / Camarones Zarandeados. These were cooked perfectly great texture great flavor. 4 1/2 Stars. To finish up the evening I had to try the Churro Cheesecake. Great pastry on a fried chunk of cheesecake. 4 Stars. Their steaks are openly displayed in the front so I thought their steak would be excellent. I got the NY steak. It was not the best grade of meat but I still liked it.
