Best Mexican/seafood in town! We were here for work and I had been to the sister restaurant before 30 minutes away. I raved about it to my coworker and was pleased to go there for dinner after work one evening. The service was all in Spanish, and I was able to speak with the server in Spanish to order what I wanted. My coworker, whose wife is Peruvian had to translate some items on the menu for him. Come to Imperial Valley area regularly to work with my clients. Really surprised no one had suggested this place. Hotel clerk didn't know they had food. Took a chance and was very surprised. Coming from the coast I'm very picky with my seafood, but that's really ALL you have here, so I figured they have to know what they are doing. Tuna ceviche was top notch. Tuna was perfect color and LOTS of it too. This would be a top item in any upscale Mexican restaurant along the coast. The tacos were amazing too. Had the Manta Ray taco. Didn't know what to expect but I'd order it again. Darker color meat with great flavor, and the sauce it was cooked in added a ton of complexity. Gobernador tacos are self explanatory and always great. The quesarron was perfect. Crunchy cheese shell, gooey inside with fresh shrimp. I'll be back for sure. read more

I got lunch at la resaca while on a work trip. I was craving fish tacos for days so when I saw this was one of the top rated restaurants in Calexico I was stoked. I ordered a shrimp and a fish taco, both were very good. It seemed like maybe only one server was working and the restaurant had a few groups, but she was tending to everybody quickly and service was great. I will say, I didn't realize the menu on yelp was not up to date with prices (the photos were added years ago). My fish taco was $4.50, my shrimp was $5.50 and a water was $1.50. Oh man! I came on a Monday around 12noon and the waitress was off the chain beautiful and she had a Sir Mix a lot azz!!!! From that point on I didn't care what the food was like because all my attention was on her. Okay so on to the food I came with a small group and we all ordered those beer tomato things. We got some chips and salsa but the salsa was fire department hot!!!! I had to add a lot of lime then it was okay to eat. Most of us ordered the shrimp cocktail and I got the large which took me about 30mins to finish. We also got a order of chips and guac which was very good. Come for the shrimp! If you are a shrimp lover this is the place for you. I was in a rush and wanted a quick test of this restaurant with excellent reviews. I ordered a fish taco and a shrimp taco to go. The shrimp taco I chose had ancho Chiles and onions. The shrimp were large tender. The taco was STUFFED! I was in heaven! The fish taco had two small fish pieces. There is a nice outside seated area. I can't wait to come here again. This was so good I will be making a side trek on our routine drive from AZ to San Diego. It is well worth bypassing the fast food options and make a side trek to have a memorable lunch! What a facade... for being literally right next to the border, one could believe that the Imperial Valley would have some of the best Mexican restaurants in California... nope... La Resaca is a descent idea with potential. I absolutely love seafood, that's why resaca is one of my favorite restaurants. I love their chavelas and variety of seafood dishes. In my opinion, this place is a bit pricey. But every time I go the food is on point! The one thing I don't like about this place us that their service is so slow. It takes a long time to get your food and even the check. The waitress didn't come to our table to check on us. I had to track her down. I feel they're understaffed. I only saw one waitress when I went. With that being said, I already know what to expect when I go. I don't get upset if they take long because that is pretty much expected. Good thing their food is great, otherwise I wouldn't go as much. read more

I went on a Friday night and again the following morning. Ordered two aguachiles originales, the sauce was really good! And a bucket of beer. In the morning ordered aguachiles mixtos which were also fresh and delicious. And some chevelas. Great spot to have a beer, watch sports and eat some good food. The Chipotle and capitán shrimp tacos are great. Usually I order the fried calamari and it's amazing but last time it was too burnt to really eat. Service is great and never too busy. Definitely recommend if you like seafood and beer read more

Came here to celebrate my dad's birthday and I was pleasantly surprised by the food. I'm not a huge seafood fan, let a lone a shrimp fan, but I think this place has converted me. I had the Hawaiian ceviche and was blown away. The shrimp was fresh and the flavors were all there; it was sweet from the pineapple and savory from the shrimp and seasonings. The waitress/bartender was friendly, helpful, and even joked bit. Along with that, the service was fast. There's a good variety of foods that also includes carne asada, in case you don't want seafood. I decided to go back today and had the same good service. I was pleased with everything. Today I had another campechana, and instead of the tacos, I tried the Hawaiian Ceviche, served in a fresh, carved out pineapple with pineapple pieces on the side. Beyond delicious, I was quite impressed. I also tried their michelada, and that too was very tasty. My total again was around $38. I definitely recommend this place. Calexico isn't a foodie's paradise, but it was ridiculously hard to find a place to eat. My friend and I just wanted refreshing ceviche after driving for hours in 110 degree desert heat, but one place was closed for renovations and another had moved. We drove back and forth from one end of the city to the other twice. So were decided to come here despite its shady looking sign (see the menu picture). There's a vague pirate/ship theme and they have a pool table and a bar. Yes, it's definitely a place to go to if you want or need to cure your hangover. There are even crackers on the tables for the menudo they probably serve a lot of, but we were there for ceviche. Our server was friendly and the ceviche came out quickly. We only ordered one each and it was tasty and satisfying, though a little bit on the spicy side. I wouldn't mind coming back here if I ever ventured into Calexico again (which probably won't happen again anytime soon). read more

Most chains are the same in regards to recipe presentation etc. La Resaca is the exception to the rule. The dish names are the same as well as the theme. However the actual dishes appear and taste different. The service was fantastic, the live music was great. The beer was ice cold. The Explosiv Volcan was good but the flavor profile was different than the Mexicali and El Centro locations. The Camarones Pelados were not bad but flavor was lacking. I left full and satisfied but will stick to the El Centro location. if you are already in Calexico then this is a good place. read more

I had high expectations of this place and when I got there I realized I had been there a few years ago and it was nothing special. I looked at the menu and the prices are pretty expensive considering the competition serving the same seafood locally. I think the customer service was good, the food was good, but when I went to the bathroom it was filthy and there was a cockroach. I stared at that cockroach because I am a firm believer that if you don't care your bathroom where your customers can see how cleanliness is a priority then...What about the kitchen where we can't see? read more

Went for dinner yesterday. Excellent fresh food. The service was very flexible and offered awesome substitutes for the unfortunately absent salmon. The garlic prawns and gamba's with cheese and bacon were incredible. We will definitely go back as they promised to have salmon today :-). read more

I saw this restaurant on Yelp and it had 3/2 stars. My friend and I decide to give it a try. Being so close to Calexico, we thought the food would be really good. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The food was not good at all. We ordered the super nachos. They were made with canned cheese and canned chili along with a few tomatoes a little bit of sour cream and three slices of avocado. We also had a cheese quesadilla which had no flavor. And to top it off, we weren"t given any salsa to go with the quesadilla. We would've had better food going to Taco Bell. I wouldn't give this place any stars but I was required to give it one. read more

The only reason I didn't give this place a five star is because the place is a little bit noisy and really small. They definitely need a bigger place to accommodate more people.
