Found this place searching for tacos in the area, as it was taco Tuesday! Pleasantly surprised at how good the flavor was and at a fair pricing also at how fresh everything is. They brought a spicy salsa and a regular salsa with your chips both salsas tasted very fresh as were the homemade corn and flour tortillas really fresh too! The agua frescas were refreshing I got horchata, she got jamaica Surprised this establishment doesn't have more reviews, the customer service is great. This is a hidden gem in Calexico. It's not a place to go if you are in a rush, but it is well worth the wait. The owner is very nice and friendly. She greets and chats with all her customers, then she'll head back to the kitchen to cook you up something delicious made to order. She has delicious soups and daily specials. We came across this place by chance and let me tell you, their horchata is amazing. We ordered a shrimp tostada and a fish tostada, they were pretty good for what they were. They add cucumber to their ceviche, super refreshing. They didn't have octopus that day, the guy waiting tables said the fish didn't come in that day. No worries about that. What did worry us was the flautas. We got the half dozen, let me expound on how you shouldn't get those. They had so little meat it was embarrassing. I kid you not, the thickness of a charging cable for your phone is thicker than the meat filling of those flautas. That's the only complaint, the service was good and so were their chips and salsa. This unassuming local eatery has been reopened for only 3 months, owned by a young man, Manuel. He is extremely personable, makes time to speak to all the customers, and explained the dishes to us. All their food is freshly made, including their flour and corn tortillas. You get all the tortillas you can eat with a plate order. Not all menu items are available every day, do ask about today's specials. Try their fresh Mexican drinks as well, we especially liked the hibiscus drink. Although we are not Mexican food experts, we agreed that their food was tasty, reasonably priced, and with great service! This is my favorite place to eat in Calexico! If you are driving through the area, it's definitely worth going out of your way for. I recommend the Pescado Ceviche and be Gobernador Taco. I want to try more on the menu but that's what I always want to get when I visit ha. Everything is so fresh and delicious - you can tell it's made with love. Try the horchata too - freshly made from blended rice (no mix!) or the limón beverage too. If you have never had freshly made horchata, I swear it will change your life for the better. Service is always great and the restaurant is impeccable clean. Looking forward to coming back regularly. read more

I came across this place while scrolling through nearby food places here on Yelp and was intrigued by the name of the place "estilo mexicali." I became excited as there are a lot of Mexican restaurants since this is a border town but some of them are quite not up to par to the tasty food over the border in Mexicali. I came to this place for my mother's birthday some time ago and I was not disappointed. As soon as we entered and sat down in the spacious and warmly decorated restaurant, the waitress immediately greeted us and presented us with menus. The menu in this place is just spectacular! They offered from flautas to ceviche, cocteles, etc. The food was delivered very quickly to both us. I ordered half a dozen with flautas along with two tacos de machaca. While tasty, I felt like the flautas could have used a little more meat filling. I mostly got a lot of corn and a smaller amount of meat. Some shredded lettuce on top would have a nice accompanyment but nevertheless it was satisfying enough. Now, the tacos de machaca were the real star of this whole show. The meat was very, very tender and so mouth-watering succulent with just the right amount of spice paired with the flour tortillas you can tell are made in-house and handmade, my mouth was in heaven. This is in my mind, no doubt the best place in town to get the best tacos and mexican food this side of the border. I really don't know why this restaurant isn't more popular, paired with the ridiculously inexpensive flavorful food and amazing customer service we received from the waitress who stayed attentive throughout the meal and accomodated us with extra condiments when we needed them, it's a yes from me. If you can't already tell, I won't hesitate coming back and trying out more of their menu items next time. read more

I was craving tacos dorados and stopped here not knowing what to expect given it was not even on YELP ... to my surprise it was delicious. My dad and I both ordered " tacos dorados de carne desebrada".Dad was very pleased not to see beans and rice next to his tacos so if u want those sides I assume you need to request it IDK... Lol... Its a hole in the wall type of place out in the middle of nowhere. Its 113 degrees outside ( they have A.C :)... ) and there is not too many options out here so its best to stop at a family owned operated restaurant like this one... We really enjoyed our visit to this little place. It doesn't look like anything special since it is situated right in the middle of a strip mall, but looks are deceiving with this one. Staff was so friendly and accommodating and the food was really good. So flavorful and tastes like homemade. Be sure to ask for the corn tortillas, they were outstanding (and made from scratch, what a difference). Our family tried the tacos dorados de papa, the barbacoa with the fresh tortillas, and the flautas. We would recommend all and order them again. read more

Briseida's Kitchen is great! We were traveling back home and looking for some good Mexican food before leaving. This place did not disappoint! The family who owns it is so nice and welcoming it's like coming home to eat. And that's just half of it, the food is delicious! We had the menudo, gobernador tacos, shrimp cocktail, and handmade corn tortillas. Everything was fresh, and just reminded me of my grandmas cooking. This is by far one of the best restaurants for AMAZING food and customer service that we have experienced in Calexico. I wish we could've taken pictures of the food, but it was so good we couldn't stop eating it. Good food. You can tell everything is homemade. The chips were stuck together and a little soft (undercooked). My friend ordered slivered cactus and beef stewed together, and I offered chimichangas. It was solid, tasty, with a variety of good sauces included. Great price! read more

Mexicali style food without crossing the border. Had the Tacos de Borrego (served Saturday and Sunday's 9am - 1pm) and Agua de Cebada, and they we're delicious!! I'll be definitely returning to this place for sure. read more
