I have to say this is the WORST Chinese restaurant I've eaten! If it is possible, I will give them minus! First, Peking Duck! There are still some feathers on the duck!!!! Sooooo disgusting! The ambiance is refreshing mix of concrete, dark wood and industrial design with splash of color. Street parking was cheaper being the outskirt of downtown (North Loop) and food was pricey and worth the try. The mango chicken was a nice sweet surprise with thinly sliced chicken and lots of mango. It tasted good the next day reheated too. The beef soup hand pull noodle plain was boring, add in the chili sauce they provide you, and it tastes fabulous! The beef was not tender enough, the noodles were chewy and probably store bought. The xiao long bao were great! Left it in the brown vinegar sauce to soak before eating. Can't say enough great things about JUN! My friend and I stopped in for a quick bite today and ordered from the lunch menu. I ordered a cup of the hot and sour soup and the general tso's chicken. Both were great. The soup was awesome and had tons of flavor--if you're a hot and sour soup fan, definitely try it here. The chicken was battered and cooked perfectly. Light and crunchy opposed to heavy and soggy (which I've seen at other restaurants). It also had the perfect amount of spice; enough to give the taste buds a kick, but not too much where I needed a glass of milk. The lunch portions are the perfect amount and left me feeling full. We had the most amazing time last night at Jin. We sat at the bar and the bar tender, Alex, was a delight. The first thing you notice walking in is the ultra modern decor. It's a bit dark but the green accents brighten it up a bit. Anyways... back to the food. We eat keto 99% of the time and we're surprised at how many delicious dishes we found here. Our favorite is the Couples Beef, with chilled beef tendon and shank. It was super savory, but the fresh cilantro added a nice clean and light touch. Definitely give this a try and get out of your comfort zone. It had a lot of textures! we had the chilled pork belly with green onions and cilantro. This one was chilled, fatty and had brighter flavors than the Couples Beef. The last two dishes we tried were the crispy duck, which was to die for and the beef short ribs. I was really hopeful when I heard that there was a Sichuan restaurant opening in the North Loop area. I got even more excited when I read that Jessie had stated her friends were dismayed at the lack of authentic Chinese food options downtown and sought to fix that with the opening of this restaurant. So I *patiently* waited for JUN to open and have since been there twice. Once to try a few items on their regular menu and once for dim sum. Overall, I'd say this place is just okay. Both occasions that I've dined here, staff was friendly and attentive. The location has more of an upscale feel, true to the North Loop neighborhood that it's located in. I've tried the regular menu as well as the dim sum menu and have to say that both are fairly average offerings. I was hoping for a bit more mouth-numbing spice that Sichuan peppercorns offer but found that the spice was fleeting. The dim sum had a fairly pricey selection and didn't have as many options as I would have liked. I'd still like to go back and try a couple more things when I get a chance, especially their hand pulled noodles. Overall, I'd recommend trying the place- good atmosphere, good drinks, decent food. read more

Szechuan dumplings were the only good thing I ordered. I'm giving 2 stars for the fact that they were DELICIOUS. It all went downhill from there. The soup dumplings tasted like the ones you can get frozen at the store. They didn't even have the right spoons or sauces to go with. The shrimp siu mai wasn't flavorful. It's good to step out of your comfort zone every once in awhile. I decided to take my own advice and venture to try a new dim sum spot. My friend and I went on a Friday evening and were really excited when we walked inside, the decor is super trendy and fits the north loop vibe. I was disappointed that there weren't very many people dining here. It's a great place for happy hour so not sure where everyone was. We ordered house wine and dumplings from the happy hour menu. The steamed pork dumplings were generous in size and very flavorful with lots of real pork meat stuffed inside. We shared the tangerine chicken and young chow fried rice for our entrees. These were less impressive than the dumplings. The tangerine/orange chicken was a huge portion but not as flavorful as I'd hoped. It needed more brown sauce or some spices to boost the zest. Unfortunately the fried rice dish was lacking flavor as well. Decent amount of chicken and ham but I wanted more Asian zing flavors. My review is teetering between 3-4 stars but I decided to round up because the service was so attentive. The food was good but not mind blowing. I almost don't want to write a review because I don't want to wait in a long line for dim sum like I have to at other places.... haha, but if I want them to stay in business I will have to be a good Yelper and write about my love for them! We stopped in here during July 4th (a TUESDAY!!!!) because a few places were closed and they had their weekday dim sum options. We ordered har gao (shrimp dumplings), pork riblets, steamed BBQ pork buns, soup dumplings (xaio long bao), and the sticky rice in lotus leaf... my bf also tried a cocktail (it has green tea in it!) and loved it! Once you got used to the Chinese liquor taste (it's diff tasting than most liquors), it was a delicious drink. All of our dishes came out fresh and steaming! My bf ordered another helping of the soup dumplings (this turned out to be his favorite dish). I loved all the other dishes we had! We were sooo stuffed and spent only $30ish dollars (before tip) between the two of us. Haha. We made a second trip out here that same weekend (I told you I was obsessed!) on Saturday to see how busy they were and what other dimsum options they added on weekends. This time we ordered the fried taro dumplings, the fried shrimp dumplings (with the crispy strips), the BBQ steamed rice rolls, more soup dumplings, the baked BBQ pork buns, and more har gao (my favorite dimsum staple!). Everything is SO DELICIOUS! And I love that I don't have to chase down a certain cart for my favorite dishes. There was no wait! The nice waiter (same waiter both times) was very attentive and checked in often but not so often that we were smothered, and it was $40 dollars even with our drinks! We have not tried their standard Szechuan entrees. My bf stated this was his favorite dimsum place out of the main two that most people like. So happy we found this place and it's near us! This place was fantastic!! We went for Happy Hour and loved everything we ordered!! Happy hour prices were great for the egg rolls($5), cream cheese wontons($5), and pork dumplings($9). We also ordered the Dan Dan noodles($12) and they were great with the fresh house made noodles but a little too spicy for my personal taste, my husband loved the spice level though! When seeing the prices, my mouth dropped as the range goes from 4.50, 5.50, and 7.50. 7.50... What?!?!?! This is ridiculous, no idea what items are 7.50 but this A LOT for dim sum! I gave it a chance with a friend and got two items and it was just alright for small portion. Well back to lunch special, I got the La Zi Shrimp which I only got 6/7 pieces of shrimp and poorly cooked rice. Flavor wise it was just spicy and nothing much. I feel torn about the rating for this restaurant. The service was fast and friendly and there was no pressure to order right away. For starters, we ordered all of the dumplings and the chicken wings. The dumplings were good, though a bit too soft. Having had a lot of steamed dumplings, these could have been a bit more firm. The chicken wings were not to our liking, as they were SALTY. seems that someone went crazy with the oyster sauce or whatever they used as a salt source. My daughter ordered the Gong Bao Chicken and I ordered the La Zi Shrimp. While I truly enjoyed my dish: It was perfectly seasoned and well balanced in heat, my daughter didn't like the chicken in her dish. It seemed like it was underdone. Because she works in the food industry, she doesn't send back food unless it's really bad. She said that it could have been the fact that they use chicken thighs. She doesn't eat dark meat on poultry. So, other than these two missteps, Jun was a very nice experience. This is why I'm torn on the rating. Part of me feels that a four is in order, yet... I mean, that one is my go-to Chinese food restaurant... and I'm Chinese! I came here with my Supper Club, and everyone was disappointed with their meal. The dumplings were COLD and dry, the chicken was flavorless, and overall, it was a huge disappointment. The menu is weird (hey, I'm Chinese and I don't eat pork intestine), and didn't offer as much variety as Szechuan in Roseville. The service was meh. BF WONT STOP TALKING/DREAMING ABOUT THIS PLACE! He had the Peking shredded pork with pancakes and absolutely devoured it. I had the Gong Bao Chicken which was fresh and vibrant. The funny thing is that we started off with the pork dumplings appetizer which ended up being MUCH spicier than my meal (in which the menu indicated it would be spicy). Doesn't matter to me as they were both delicious. The drinks were pricey but that's to be expected. Great flavors and good service. I liked the sleek decor & open kitchen and how you could see the staff prepping food. Such an improvement from the old Rojo. It felt much more intimate and definitely didn't feel like we were dining at another MN restaurant. Only negative was some staff clearly smoked as there were frequent wafts of cigarettes that would come in every so often (which isn't my favorite thing when eating). Perhaps it was an opening day hiccup but Jun could have used a few extra days, perhaps a week or so to tune up their offerings. But let me start with the positives - service here is EXCELLENT and alone gives a +1 star to their rating. Everything else though, was 2-stars at best - especially when you consider the other options for Szechuan and Chinese in Minneapolis that provide high quality at much lower price points. Here, you're paying for the ambiance and the service, but not very good food. Lets start with the items that weren't even available because the kitchen ran out - Jun's Bao Bao and Jun's Pork Spare Ribs. You know, the two items that bear your restaurant's name and would supposedly be your best plates? We settled on sichuan dumplings, a small bowl of hot and sour soup, snap peas, and La Zi chicken. However, aside from the soup, the first plate took nearly 40 minutes to serve despite the kitchen being fully staffed. Sure the place was busy, but it certainly wasn't packed. Hot and Sour Soup - one of the worst I've ever tasted. Literally a bowl of vinegar that we had to dilute with soy sauce to even get down. Whoever made this never taste tested or has an amazing tolerance for sour. Snap Peas - can't really make this wrong. The peas were fresh so they retained the crunch. My only complaint is that the portion size is pretty tiny for $13. I'm sure you could get 10x this much if you purchase from market. Sure, there's the restaurant up-charge but this was a bit excessive. See pictures. Sichuan Dumplings - 6 small dumplings that tasted reasonably good but doesn't compare well to other offerings in town that serve comparable quality for at least $2 less. La Zi chicken - probably the best dish of the night with very tasty chicken. Something like fried chicken but retaining all their individual moisture. Jun has a lot of potential because it is well situated with what seems like an excellent and enthusiastic staff. This isn't Szechuan cuisine for your grandmother, but rather Szechuan for the modern millennial. But this was an opening night stumble for sure - hoping they stick around for another round. read more

Came here on my birthday on Wednesday evening around 8pm and was seated right away. Our server Lauren was very nice and always came at the right time to check up on my boyfriend and I or refill our cup of water. Very beautiful and chic decor and ambience. Definitely great for dates. My boyfriend and I order the Sichuan dumplings and it tasted amazing! Love the sauce and the chili oil really gives it extra flavor. We also ordered the size large hot and sour soup. It had just the perfect balance of sour and spicy to the soup. The large is huge and it is so worth the $8! We brought home leftovers. Because we love and gotta have our seafood, we also got the La zi shrimp dish which tasted decent. The sauce could've been more flavorful and also felt like the portion was not worth $16. I could make something like this at home. Lastly, we got the Jun fried rice. Probably my favorite dish (besides the dumplings). The flavor was on point and it included bean sprouts, eggs, green onions, shrimp and beef - just enough veggies and protein for your needs! I would have to say that this place definitely isn't the greatest to satisfy you Szechuan cravings but it not the worst either. Tiny chicken pieces were not only tough and overdone, but dry enough to question whether they were cooked with any sauce. Words can't really do justice explaining what never should have left the kitchen . In a more positive epilogue, I was able to salvage the La Zi chicken by dumping Hot and Sour soup over the top! The extra moisture saved my throat from being sliced open from the tough and dry chicken bits. read more

We came early on opening night, excited for the possibility of an "authentic" Sichuan restaurant so close to where we live. We tried the Sichuan dumplings. They were overly doughy, good flavor but too salty. We also tried the gong bao chicken. It tasted okay...sauce is heavy and salty. We also tried the la zi shrimp. You could taste the Chinese five spice. Shrimp was crunchy but was underwhelming. On the positive side, service is more prompt and attentive than most authentic Chinese restaurants. If you like authentic Chinese food, and taste is more important to you than ambience, I would say there are more compelling options out there. read more

We went around 7 pm and it wasn't overly busy, which was surprising given the restaurants well regarded food. We ordered the fried rice and spicy chicken. This is exactly what they did and it was very satisfying. Over all was a nice decor and a fun place. Jun is a clean, upper scale restaurant. Very pretty inside and quiet. But my daughter and I had one purpose, good dim sum. Upon walking in we were impressed. Everyone working smiled and was very friendly, despite me and my daughter coming in wearing jeans and T-shirts and converse shoes. They treated us the same as if we were dressed up (this is saying a lot, as I have been to many places where that is not the case). My only negative would be the selections. This restaurant is a mix of authentic Sichuan taste with a loungy feel. The owners were present when we had our dinner. The Dan Dan Noodles were excellent. I had the Shui Zhu Beef which did have a number of Sichuan peppercorns in it and was delicious. The green beans were also very good. If there was a weakness it was that our server was not knowledgeable as to what a sichuan peppercorn was, I asked which dishes tended to have more and he thought I was talking about red chili peppers. So I just ordered the dish that mentioned them on the menu. The other weakness were the craft cocktails, the Mezcal Sichuan was jet fuel. They probably should have Tsing Tao beer on the beer list for a twist of authenticity. That said, I've been to a number of Sichuan restaurants in the cities and I think the flavors here are the best of the ones I've tried. A tie with Szechuan Spice, my other favorite, which has a more authentic atmosphere. No reservations. read more

Jun's attempt of being a dine in restaurant is a combination of poor service, mediocre food and overpriced flat beer. We come out to enjoy food for the experience and if it is met with a droopy waiter who cannot seem to accept that serving flat beer is unacceptable, then coming once to this establishment is acceptable. read more
