I'm Asian and have eaten Chinese food in China many times. So it's always been a bit of a struggle finding good Chinese food here in the Twin Cities. Mandarin Kitchen for dim sum is great but only served Saturday and Sunday mornings. We've loved Evergreen on Nicollet but they're closed. Then we found Yun. Great Chinese menu. Wonderful oils and tastes. Nice atmosphere and quiet enough for non shouting conversations. Reasonable prices and a small happy hour food and drink selection. The menu has familiar Chinese/American dishes but also more exotic Chinese dishes you'll not often see in local Chinese places. The location in the north loop area is also perfect. And this from a guy who lives in Hudson. Worth the drive for us. I'll think you'll like it! read more

Saw that a dim sum place was opening and was instantly interested. Went in tonight... sat at the bar and was treated to a wonderful bartender, very wonderful personality and very helpful on the menu! Had a drink called the garden of Szechuan, it was bourbon based and had a nice sweet flavor, would be a great summer cocktail. I didn't eat a full meal, had black mushrooms with bok Choi and also Szechuan dumplings. Both good but the dumplings were the winner, expected a little more spiciness so will ask for that next time. I've been here twice and both times the food was tasty, but the service is incredibly slow. I thought it was just an off day the first time we went (and there was only one waitress there working the entire floor so it was bound to be slower), but the second time we went at 7:30 PM and were there for almost 2.5 hours. Not only did it take 30-40 minutes for each dish we ordered to be made, but it also took at least 20 minutes to get our waiter's attention. I would understand more if the restaurant were busy, but it wasn't even half full and there were 3-4 waiters on the floor. It seems to me like the management isn't very good because the wait staff seemed extremely inefficient. For example, we wanted a refill on water and so we asked a waiter that was serving water at a nearby table. He asked us who our main server was, then he went to her and told her we wanted water and she came back and served it instead of him just pouring water for us. It really is a shame that the service is so slow because some of the food is quite good. The szechuan dumplings are especially delicious. I hope the management can take this criticism constructively because I would definitely go back once they are more organized. read more

Yum yum, came for dim sum because I didn't have it in me to fight through Mandarin kitchen, & I was pleasantly surprised! Noon on a Sunday & it was quiet! The food was quick & superb. We tried bbq pork dumplings, ribs, the egg yolk buns, congee, & chicken feet! Everything was fresh & full of flavor! The only thing that was a little meh was the congee, but it wasn't a awful! Their food is so Over Priced. I order 3 dishes for over $100 to feed 4 people. When the food arrived they came in such small portion! All the dishes combined was enough to feed 2 person. Vegetarian Focused Review: Food is 5++ stars. Amazing vegetable dumplings and spiced cucumbers to start. The seasoning and oil that the cucumbers is just the right amount of spice and flavor. Can even use the sauce with the dumplings for a nice kick or over rice. The Ma Po Tofu was perfect. The Sichuan chilis are not overpowering and mouth doesn't feel numb. Con: The service seemed to be a little slow and had to wait a while to get the waitresses attention to get our check. This was the only downside. I wish they took reservations. I would like to take my project team to Jun but with a big group and no reservations that would be a risk. Will definitely be going back within the next few weeks. read more

We really wanted to come to eat for the happy hour so my girlfriend and I went on a date to eat at JUN. when we got there the waiter didn't give us a warm welcome. He was straight forward to everything and gave us a straight face look. When we ordered our food the food came out really quick which was a good thing. The food was average at most. The best thing we had would be the noodle soup. When we paid for our food the dim sum was at full price. I took a look at the menu and realized they blocked out the happy menu word. I know the happy hour is only $1 off each dim sum but i find it really deceiving to advertise happy hour on your website when you're not serving happy hour at all. The happy hour was what sold us to come to the restaurant in the first place and to see that they don't have it, it was one of the most disappointing thing as a customer. read more

This place has great food. Comes at a premium as others had mentioned but ambiance is great and I think it's reasonable. Unfortunately on multiple occasions I've been shorted on rice and amenities on a take-out. Have to go back in and ask at least 4 times including yesterday is not a great start for a fancy dinner. I'm usually checked into a hotel when I take-out food here and having no silverwares/chopsticks is an inconvenience. If I put in 4 orders that each comes with rice, even if they're all the same, I expect 4 boxes of rice, not 2 just to make them fit into the brown bag or cut cost especially now that you're charging a COVID tax. I will continue to come back for great food but i hope next time i don't need to check the bag or having go back in to explain and ask for missing items. read more

We came here for Lunar New Year dinner and had an ok time. The menu is large and includes both authentic and non-authentic items. We particularly enjoyed the La Zi Chicken, the Pecking Duck, and the Hong Shao Rou. The dumplings were nice, too. I wish the ambiance was a little more bright and home-y (instead, its rather dark). This review is based on the dim sum only!! I was craving chicken feet and sticky rice, I didn't want to drive all the way to mandarin or Yangtze and wait. Since Jun is serving dim sum on the daily thought it would be a good time to finally try it out! It was def. not busy on the Saturday morning; only a couple tables were filled. The space is real nice and street parking was easy to find around that area. The hostess knew we wanted to eat dim sum so we got only the menu for that -prices per item ranged from $4.5-$5.5 and they had a pretty good array of items. We ordered the chicken feet, har gow (shrimp dumplings), soup dumplings, sticky rice, crunchy shrimp balls and steam rolls... couple of other items too (I have no self-control when it comes to dim sum, like... how?) the hargow was really good but the dumpling skin fell off with one touch, so you're stuck with a deconstructed hargow, chicken feet were good and not chewy, sticky rice was decent and as for the soup dumplings.. Well you can get similar ones at Trader Joes... soo I wouldn't recommend. Overall dim sum experience was pretty decent at Jun but nothing stellar. There was one thing that rubbed me the wrong way though dun dun dun... one of the employees (manager? Asian man) checked on the tables around me (all white customers) 2-3 times asking how the food was blablabla, now generally that would earn major brownie points for me because I love when managers/owners take the time to greet their customers... but unfortunately he didn't bother to come greet my table once.. so yah... I was looking forward to trying the Szechuan menu but we will see about that. read more

It is such a treasure to the Twin Cities to have this level of elevated Szechuan cuisine, to have a place that showcases the actual amazing culinary things that come out of China beyond our Western, undervalued version of "Chinese food." It's disappointing to see anything less than a four star average here on Yelp, because it does not represent what this place is. i'm not ashamed to admit that i go out quite a bit and love to eat but the thing i love most about jun is that it feels like home to me. they are the only place i know who offers dim sum items on their menu every day. if you are ever feeling a little under the weather, congee is like the asian version of chicken noodle soup. i don't order edamame at restaurants because i can buy it at trader joe's or costco for much less with the same results BUT this is not the case with jun's edamame. their edamame is made with a spicy and savory sauce that i am not able to replicate at home. these are the four things i always get: 1) green papaya salad - super refreshing 2) mapo tofu - mildly spicy and delicious 3) beef noodle soup - handmade noodles with a broth similar to vietnamese beef stew (ultimate comfort food for me) 4) snow pea tips - light and garlicky if you are undecided about what to drink, ask if cherry is available to recommend a drink for you. she is honest and knowledgeable about the ingredients and flavor profile of each drink. i actually don't write or read reviews often because i understand people are very particular about their restaurant experiences but after reading some of the previous reviews, i can't help but wish more grace and understanding could be given to the hospitality industry. read more

Plus: tasty food and a decent price (Sichuan dumplings and wings were awesome - flavorful and very fresh), busy at lunch but easily got a seat, friendly (if a bit slow) service. Minus: several of the dishes included green bell peppers (which personally I can't stand), and I do wish the food was a bit spicier. Many of the entrees seemed to repeat common ingredients (onions and bell peppers appeared in several choices) so options may be limited for people looking for something a bit different. First of all the parking was horrible bc it's just street parking so it took us a while to find a place to park. The food was NOT that great and the dim sum menu was way too limited in options. The price was unfit for the portions I felt the portions were good size but too pricey and the food was any typical Chinese restaurant food. The ok: because the flavors are quite light it almost veers into flavorless territory. Not often, but some of the fish dishes were very mild. Also, some of the dishes are not quite authentic (or they just sent me the wrong dish). The bad: WOW are the portions small. I think some of these can be considered appetizer sized (not talking about the dim sum obviously). For $16 I'm going to need more than 7 pieces of chicken/beef. Anything made with onion is usually mostly onion and then 30% whatever else. Overall good flavor but the prices are really high for how much food you get. read more

Great dumplings to start our evening giving me great hope that all at Jun would be fantastic! Wonderful space. But, service was spotty and rough. Food and drinks whisked away before being finished. Edamame ordinary at best. Main course dishes at our table -3 of 4 were medium to mediocre. Birds nest was pretty good. Elevated Chinese is a great idea - long over due here and you have the makings of making it happen but with much work to be done. It is a really good Chinese restaurant in Minneapolis downtown. We feel extremely lucky to find a Chinese restaurant when we stay in convention center area. The food specially dim sum make us feel like home. We strongly recommend the Chinese New year combo. The lamp combines the French and Chinese dishes. This experience was totally a Series of unfortunate events. 1. they were out of so much stuff. It began with the drinks, my dinner companion was trying to order a mocktail but they were out of everything but the one based in black pepper. when your first choice is cranberry and maple and your taking a leap is pumpkin butter and all they have is black pepper the rest of the experience better go well. Unfortunately for us it did not. 2. They were out of two entree items we were thinking of eating. So this left it to settle with Flounder when we wanted Sea bass. The problem is that the appetizers we had gotten also contained the numbing sensation that the peppercorns give and so when the flounder is also covered with peppercorns it made the whole dish seem overwhelming. We were offered a free dessert for all our hassles trying to get a meal ordered but weren't given a choice in what dessert to get, it was just brought out to our table. We honestly wondered if they were out of everything but this last dessert so we got it by default. The owner did come and talk to us about our meal but that did little to change the experience we had. The final thing that the restaurant had absolutely no control over is that the couple sitting next to us was in the middle of a terrible fight and we were the unfortunate witnesses to it. I would expect that after a month or two at a location you would get a handle on when things are going to run out. it wasn't late in the night when we went. read more

The owner came out and greeted us and was so sweet! The dim sum cart had quite a bit of options and the services was superb. They have this cucumber dish on the dim sum menu and on the small plate list, and it was amazing! I was a little disappointed of their "soup" dumplings. There wasn't much soupy-ness to the dumpling, however, the flavor saved it for me! :) I love the NorthLoop atmosphere and Jun fits in perfectly! I will be returning for Brunch. read more
