Hanger steak with eggs and country potatoes
    Jo G.

Went on a Sunday around noon and it was definitely about a 30 min wait. It was a little odd because there was two tables available outside the whole time we were waiting and no one was being sat there the whole time we waited . Once we got seated, we got sat in one of those exact tables. Anyway, we ordered : Steak and eggs with country potatoes Steak was delicious , potatoes were def mushy and not crispy at all. Sourdough was nice and toasty. Waiter only came by once towards the end of our meal to check if we needed anything and he def looked like he didn't wanna be there . While taking the order and then later while we were closing out. Not really sure if I would be back here , but again, the hanger steak was really good.

Honestly I have came to eat at this restaurant multiple times a week because they have so many options to choose from and the quality of the food is actually good. They been open for 30+ years and I love trying new menu items. I love that they have poached eggs as an option for egg style and I think its unique that they use French bread for the French toast -- the fruit is always really fresh and the service is always 5 stars. Everyone on their staff is very kind and helpful and they all work efficiently as a team. The restaurant itself has both outside and inside seating and it's a big establishment but there is enough space between tables etc. I would recommend this place for a late breakfast or even a nice lunch.

Jumpin' Java has been serving up breakfast & lunch on their little stretch of Ventura Blvd. for about 35 years, and you don't stay open that long in this town if you aren't doing a whole lotta things right. The cozy cafe about a block East of Laurel Canyon features more tables outside than in, and that's perfect for people-watching and lively conversation with friends while the Spring breeze keeps you cool. Our server paid very close attention to us, making sure coffees and soft drinks were refreshed as many times as necessary, and making good suggestions to folks navigating the eclectic menu for the first time. I chose Grits & Links: creamy, cheesy grits studded with nickel-sized circles of Louisiana sausage that packed just a touch of heat but plenty of Cajun flavor. While the grits could have used a bit more salt, the dish was hearty and quite generous, and I found it very satisfying. One friend ordered up the Apple Pancake, a single, 12-inch disc built from artisan batter and fresh-sliced, caramelized apples. I didn't taste, but the aroma of Fall ingredients made me want to steal my neighbor's food. Another opted for the Breakfast Lavash, a cross between a burrito and a panini, sporting Scrambled eggs, tomato, green onions, mushrooms and Feta cheese, wrapped in lavash bread and pressed till crisp; his wife ordered an impressively crisp waffle topped with assorted fresh berries so colorful I considered offering a cup of grits in exchange. All of the food was plated beautifully, served swiftly, and gave everyone the perfect start to their day. We even had a visit from the owner to make sure everything was to our liking. Well, yes; yes, it was. And if you haven't yet made it to Jumpin' Java, or haven't in a while, you should go see what a jump start they can give you.

Here's the full rewrite with no dash at all: Jumpin' Java is hands down one of my family's go-to spots. My favorite dish, the Cinnamon Kiss, never disappoints. Same recipe for years and the chef always nails it. Every visit feels like family with warm, attentive service. The outside seating ambiance makes you feel like you're truly in California, soaking in that laid-back vibe. My staple order is the breakfast combo: egg whites, chicken apple sausage, turkey bacon extra crispy always on point. My daughter tried the capers with chicken. She found the chicken breast a bit dry, but the Cinnamon Kiss made up for it. After all these years, still a solid nine out of ten. Highly recommend!

Found this place on yelp to grab breakfast before heading back to Vegas. Service was good, our server Mike was very attentive. Food tasted fresh and came out hot. It was $70 for two people for breakfast which I think was a little steep but not abnormal for the area. Overall a good place to check out.

I have been to Jumpin Java several years ago. It was time to return. Yesterday,my friend and I went to this cute, quaint restaurant for late breakfast, early lunch. We were both very hungry and couldn't wait to taste couple of their dishes. The owner Sona, invited us in and Mike came to take our order. He was very nice, personable, helpful, and knew his job pretty well. Told us few of their menu options, and the ball was in our court. It was easy to place our order, and the food came out nice and HOT. Didn't take too long. We shared 2 entrees. Got their Mediteranian Omelette, which came with: marinated sun-dried tomatoes, fresh basil, Kalamata olives, garlic, & grilled eggplant accompanied with a side of fruit. They didn't charge for the fruit. Also, got Artichoke Chicken Press sandwich: Fresh grilled chicken breast, artichoke & tomato spread, arugula, Provolone cheese, pressed on Ciabatta bread with French Fries. I also ordered (2) English Muffins. Food was out of this world! Hands down delicious, fresh and hot. I also got Pumpkin Spice decaf latte. Restaurant was nicely themed, & decorated for the Holidays. Genre of music was Christmas music, & some fine Jazz/blues. I know, an awkward combo, but they knew what they were doing. Place was clean, with a nice, standard size patio, parking was in the back, and the restroom was also very clean, with cute decors everywhere and a small window in the restroom. They close at 4pm. Thank you Mike and special thanks to the lovely owner; of 30 years... Mrs. Sona. :-)) Will be back again soon!!

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! From the moment I walked in, the staff was friendly, welcoming, and very attentive. The atmosphere was warm, clean, and comfortable. What truly makes this place special is the dedication of the owners. Even after 31 years, they still come in every day and work alongside their team. That level of passion and commitment really shows in the quality of the food and service.

I loved this brunch spot. I was visiting family and found this place on yelp yo have brunch off the 101. We sat outside on the patio as it was a perfect day. There was a well behaved fur baby there too which I appreciate. The food was great and the staff was so nice. The staff was attentive and made sure we were happy without food. There was only street parking from my view as I am not familiar with the area. Food was tasty. I'd recommend coming back here! They also had fresh squeezed OJ!

First time back here in almost 10 years! I stopped by with my friend for brunch after hiking at Fryman. Parking on a Sunday is almost impossible to find, but thankfully they had a few spots available at the lot in the back. We were seated right away. My friend ordered the eggs Benedict with potatoes and I had the Mediterranean omelette with a side of fruit (which they don't charge extra for!!!) My omelette was perfect and the fruit was fresh. My friend also enjoyed her meal and I tried some of her potatoes which were BOMB! Breakfast potatoes are usually a hit or miss for me, but these were perfectly cooked and seasoned. My only complaint from the meal was the service. Once we were seated, it took a while for someone to come by and take our orders, we were not checked on during the meal, and I had asked to add sausage to my omelette but I guess they forgot. Anyways, maybe it was an off day. The food was amazing so I would definitely give them another chance.

This place is owner onsite and has been in the valley for 30 years. Service is five star and portions are generous. The menu has salads wraps main dishes and drinks. Food is not prepared in advance so quality food will take time. Some parking in back and on street you may eat inside or on patio

Definitely won't be back here any time soon. We were walking by and thought this place was cute so we came back and we got a table. After we were seated it took the longest time for anyone to even come over to our table. We never got water or even silverware. When the waitress finally came over we ordered our food and drinks. The drinks came out pretty quickly but they got our coffee order wrong so that had to go remade. Then after another long period of time our food came out. My boyfriend said his food was ok but I did not like mine at all. The waffle was extremely soggy and the apples had no taste even though it was meant to be like an "apple pie" style. As we were eating not came to check on our table and my boyfriend had to go up to another waitress at the register and ask for our check. I also looked around to other tables and their food took long as well. But some servers were more attentive than others.

A bit pricey but a really cute patio and a long history. Solid food: panini had a perfectly grilled chicken breast and crusty bread. The breakfast lavash wasn't as good, possibly better without adding sausage. Overall, a good place to catch brunch in Studio City.

Cute place with friendly staff. It kind of took awhile to get water and for someone to take our order but the biscuits were super fluffy and delicious. I wouldn't recommend the mango smoothie, we subbed coconut milk for almond milk and the smoothie just really lacked any flavor, tasted like we were drinking a glass of straight up almond milk.

Once we arrived the interior had a relaxed, easygoing vibe, modern but cozy, with stylish design touches that made the whole space feel welcoming and unhurried. Even the waiting area with it's low lit seating surrounded by book cases was really cool. My wife, my sister and I had a wonderful table near the fireplace in the center of the dining area. Nearby were draped booths that would be perfect for a more romantic evening. Our server was, Haley...she was incredible. Very personable, helpful and extremely professional. You'll be in good hands if you're lucky enough to get her! Then the food...Wow. My wife and my sister got the filet migons, watching my wife's euphoric reaction of taking her fist bite made my evening! Omg...thankfully, my wife let me try garlic fries that came with the filets, and they were the best I ever had! I got the Langostino Fettuccine...outstanding. You have to dig a little spicy, which I do...but the vodka cream sauce is the real highlight of this dish. For deserts we got the apple cobbler, the creme brulee and sticky toffee cake. All three were fantastic. But I preferred the cobbler and the toffee cake the most. We didn't get the Le Petit Gateau, their chocolate cake...but we decided to get one to go! HA...it's unbelievably rich and pretty tall and big. It's topped with candied wild cheries...it's two days later and we're still eating this yummy treat. All in all...I would recommend this for any occasion...wether you're looking for just a night out with solid service and great food, to a romantic evening. We got there around 6...but later on there was live music with these two gentlemen on guitars that really played perfect atmosphere music. You can't go wrong with a night out at Firefly!

The wine selection is excellent. The menu is small but everything is full of flavor -- the tastes truly burst in your mouth. My waiter was professional, attentive, and very kind. I remembered seeing Wood & Water across the street from the Le Petit French restaurant we'd eaten at several years ago, and again while driving on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks. So, I made the reservation via the Resy dining app and effortlessly secured an early dinner. Although valet service was available, we were lucky to snag an open street parking stall. Upon entering the warm, fire-lit restaurant, the jovial host greeted us and checked us in. He led us into a relatively empty dining room past the beautiful full bar. Within minutes after being seated, it seemed like the host led in a "busload" of fellow Christmas Eve revelers. Our friendly server, Michael, welcomed us, asked if we had any questions about the menus or food allergies, and then took our beverage order. After ordering cocktails and appetizers, we discussed our potential menu selections, perused their wine list, and ordered a bottle of Sangiovese. Michael was excellent about coursing our menu selections. FOOD: -Yellowtail & Watermelon Sashimi: Chili oil, Serrano, ponzu, yuzu onion. It seems that creative preparations of yellowtail or amberjack tuna sashimi are trending in LA restaurants. Wood & Water's combination of buttery yellowtail slices, tender sweet watermelon, spicy Serrano pepper slices, with a drizzle of yuzu onion sauce caught our palates. I especially appreciated the textural aspects and freshness of this appetizer. $22 -Truffle Kennebec Fries: Black summer truffles and pecorino shavings garnished the freshly made, hot, and crisp fries. The massive bowl of shoestring fries caught my husband's and his brothers' attention as we sipped our cocktails. They agreed that W&W's shoestring fries were perfectly fried and seasoned. $19 -Roasted Duck Breast: Michael confirmed the duck breast's medium-rare doneness would be okay, or if I wanted the duck breast to lean more towards rare or more fully cooked. Honestly, I'm pleased with medium-rare doneness, and that's exactly what I received. The deliciously roasted duck breast was plated atop a generous serving of wild mushroom risotto and enhanced with in-house brandied cherries. I was drawn to this dish because I like the pairing of roast duck with a fruit sauce. Although I was drawn to pistachio-crusted lamb chops, I planned to have lamb for dinner the following day. The duck breast had evenly browned, crispy skin, and its meat was tender and succulent. The in-house brandied cherries added a deep fruit flavor, which was enhanced by the warm brandy, along with subtle notes of vanilla and spices. $48 -Pork Chop: Asian Marinade, whole grain Dijon mustard mashed potatoes, quick pickled purple cabbage, and chimichurri. My husband and brother-in-law ordered this dish and were surprised by the thick 1-1/2" pork chop. They didn't think the combination of an Asian marinade would complement the other garnishes (quick-pickled purple cabbage and chimichurri). Still, apparently, after wolfing down the soft, tender, and succulent pork chop, they were proud to admit their "clean plate club membership." $44 -Pistachio-Crusted Lamb Chops: Six tender pistachio-crusted lamb chops were plated atop whipped eggplant with roasted/charred heirloom carrots. My eldest brother-in-law ordered this dish and let me sample a piece of the lamb chop. The pistachio-crusted lamb tasted luxurious and nutty, with flavor-enhancing herbs that created a pleasant savoriness. The roasted/charred heirloom carrots brought along their natural sweetness and a touch of herbaceousness from their seasonings. $62 -Peanut Butter Chocolate Turnover: Although we were all content with our meals and drinks, we were tempted to satiate our "sweet tooth." The peanut butter chocolate turnover appealed to our foursome, who wanted to share. The dessert was served warm, with the turnover's crust light and flaky, and a hot, ooey-gooey peanut butter and melted chocolate interior. The premium vanilla ice cream added an icy, creamy contrast and neutralized or mellowed the flavors of peanut butter and chocolate. $16 We're not residents, but after this dinner, my brothers-in-law and I left wondering why we hadn't tried this restaurant sooner. We'd happily return to try more of their signature cocktails and entrees for flavors, textures, presentation, and value. The service was excellent despite the huge Christmas Eve rush and crowd.

It's super close to me, parking wasn't too difficult, and the space delivered immediately -- dim red lighting, cozy and moody, perfect for a night out solo. They had a Passover specials menu that looked amazing. I was tempted by the open-faced Hillel sandwich with matzo, wasabi butter, apple, wine reduction, and pine nuts. The smoked brisket with Coca-Cola curry also looked great when it came out for the couple next to me -- until I overheard them say the meat was tough and they sent it back. That helped me decide. I started with the freezer martini, ordered with both a twist and an olive. Clean, cold, and exactly what I wanted. I almost ordered a second. For my first dish I ordered the saag burrata -- Indian-spiced creamed spinach with burrata and grilled baguette. Fantastic. The burrata was cool and creamy, the spiced spinach underneath was warm and deeply flavorful. My only note was the bread -- three very thin slices felt skimpy for the amount of dip. A couple more would've balanced it perfectly. For my main I ordered the OG burger, mostly because I'm a horseradish lover and was excited about the horseradish crème fraîche. About two bites in I noticed it was extremely rare -- and I'm someone who appreciates medium rare, but this was beyond that. I let the server know, he handled it graciously, apologized, and had it remade quickly. I appreciated that. He also ended up comping it, which I genuinely wasn't expecting and went a long way. At that point I was finishing my martini and ready to head home, so I took the burger to go. The next day I reheated it -- bun on, everything still on it, minute and twenty seconds in direct heat. The outside was noticeably darker and crispier than the first one, clearly cooked harder this time. The flavors were there. I added a little hot sauce and it was working -- until I got to the middle. Still raw. Chewy in a way that wasn't medium rare, wasn't even close. As a chef I know what a burger should feel like after that much heat. The fact that it reheated to piping hot on the outside and was still raw in the center tells me the issue was in how it was formed or how thick it was packed -- and I have the pictures to prove it. I'll be honest -- it didn't stop me from wanting to go back. It just means I'm never ordering the burger again, which genuinely makes me sad because the flavor profile was there. The horseradish could've been punchier and the pickled onion more present, but the bones of the dish were good. It just couldn't execute consistently, twice. What I know is that OyBar has something. The creativity is real, the vibe is real, the saag burrata alone is worth the trip. I wish I tried out the the Oy burger with hoisin ketchup and Dijon -- that sounds more like what I was looking for. And I already told a friend we need to come back to share a few dishes because the menu feels like it's built for that. Highlights: Freezer martini, saag burrata, moody atmosphere, creative progressive menu, server handled a tough situation with genuine grace Could improve: Burger temperature consistency (twice is a pattern, not a mistake), bread portion with the burrata, stronger horseradish presence

There's a small exterior patio on Ventura Blvd as well, but we prefer inside. Servers are super nice and helpful. Food came out fast and you never really feel rushed. It's a good vibe to hang out ordering drinks with friends. We loved everything that we had, but the meatballs and cauliflower were stand outs. The brown butter sauce on the ricotta gnudi was delicious and we definitely tried to get up every last drop with our bread. Great and approachable neighborhood spot!

I was dining with a friend and we were enjoying our time, had just ordered a glass of wine, and were about to order more food. Out of nowhere, someone who appeared to be either the host or manager approached us and, in a very condescending and unapologetic tone, told us we needed to leave by 7 PM because the table was reserved. There was no prior mention of any time limit--nothing on the website, and we had made a reservation ourselves. What made it worse was the delivery: no attempt to accommodate us, no flexibility, and no courtesy. It felt abrupt and frankly rude, especially considering we were still actively ordering. It's disappointing because the kitchen clearly delivers, but the lack of basic hospitality and respect for guests makes it hard to want to return. Great food can only go so far when the service leaves you feeling unwelcome.

Definitely make a reservation, weekdays are chill, but weekends get busy in the best way. The ambience is what really makes it stand out. It genuinely feels like you've stepped into Tulum the dim lighting, earthy tones, and that effortlessly elevated vibe that makes you want to stay all night. The food is solid (seriously, order the pasta), and getting there isn't a hassle with both valet and street parking options. I do wish they had something going on earlier in the week though, because a Monday night here is underrated and deserves more hype. Drinks are a highlight too. My go-to is the "Divorce Papers"--just trust me on that one. And the service? That's where they really separate themselves. Narek runs the place in a way you don't see often always present, always aware, making sure everything flows smoothly without missing a beat. It creates an experience that feels taken care of without being over the top. Overall, it's a true go-to right now. Great crowd, great music, and an atmosphere that keeps you coming back. Easily one of the best spots on Ventura right now !
