Jumpin' Java has been serving up breakfast & lunch on their little stretch of Ventura Blvd. for about 35 years, and you don't stay open that long in this town if you aren't doing a whole lotta things right. The cozy cafe about a block East of Laurel Canyon features more tables outside than in, and that's perfect for people-watching and lively conversation with friends while the Spring breeze keeps you cool. Our server paid very close attention to us, making sure coffees and soft drinks were refreshed as many times as necessary, and making good suggestions to folks navigating the eclectic menu for the first time. I chose Grits & Links: creamy, cheesy grits studded with nickel-sized circles of Louisiana sausage that packed just a touch of heat but plenty of Cajun flavor. While the grits could have used a bit more salt, the dish was hearty and quite generous, and I found it very satisfying. One friend ordered up the Apple Pancake, a single, 12-inch disc built from artisan batter and fresh-sliced, caramelized apples. I didn't taste, but the aroma of Fall ingredients made me want to steal my neighbor's food. Another opted for the Breakfast Lavash, a cross between a burrito and a panini, sporting Scrambled eggs, tomato, green onions, mushrooms and Feta cheese, wrapped in lavash bread and pressed till crisp; his wife ordered an impressively crisp waffle topped with assorted fresh berries so colorful I considered offering a cup of grits in exchange. All of the food was plated beautifully, served swiftly, and gave everyone the perfect start to their day. We even had a visit from the owner to make sure everything was to our liking. Well, yes; yes, it was. And if you haven't yet made it to Jumpin' Java, or haven't in a while, you should go see what a jump start they can give you.

I have been to Jumpin Java several years ago. It was time to return. Yesterday,my friend and I went to this cute, quaint restaurant for late breakfast, early lunch. We were both very hungry and couldn't wait to taste couple of their dishes. The owner Sona, invited us in and Mike came to take our order. He was very nice, personable, helpful, and knew his job pretty well. Told us few of their menu options, and the ball was in our court. It was easy to place our order, and the food came out nice and HOT. Didn't take too long. We shared 2 entrees. Got their Mediteranian Omelette, which came with: marinated sun-dried tomatoes, fresh basil, Kalamata olives, garlic, & grilled eggplant accompanied with a side of fruit. They didn't charge for the fruit. Also, got Artichoke Chicken Press sandwich: Fresh grilled chicken breast, artichoke & tomato spread, arugula, Provolone cheese, pressed on Ciabatta bread with French Fries. I also ordered (2) English Muffins. Food was out of this world! Hands down delicious, fresh and hot. I also got Pumpkin Spice decaf latte. Restaurant was nicely themed, & decorated for the Holidays. Genre of music was Christmas music, & some fine Jazz/blues. I know, an awkward combo, but they knew what they were doing. Place was clean, with a nice, standard size patio, parking was in the back, and the restroom was also very clean, with cute decors everywhere and a small window in the restroom. They close at 4pm. Honestly I have came to eat at this restaurant multiple times a week because they have so many options to choose from and the quality of the food is actually good. They been open for 30+ years and I love trying new menu items. I love that they have poached eggs as an option for egg style and I think its unique that they use French bread for the French toast -- the fruit is always really fresh and the service is always 5 stars. Everyone on their staff is very kind and helpful and they all work efficiently as a team. The restaurant itself has both outside and inside seating and it's a big establishment but there is enough space between tables etc. I would recommend this place for a late breakfast or even a nice lunch.

Here's the full rewrite with no dash at all: Jumpin' Java is hands down one of my family's go-to spots. My favorite dish, the Cinnamon Kiss, never disappoints. Same recipe for years and the chef always nails it. Every visit feels like family with warm, attentive service. The outside seating ambiance makes you feel like you're truly in California, soaking in that laid-back vibe. My staple order is the breakfast combo: egg whites, chicken apple sausage, turkey bacon extra crispy always on point. My daughter tried the capers with chicken. She found the chicken breast a bit dry, but the Cinnamon Kiss made up for it. After all these years, still a solid nine out of ten. Highly recommend!

Found this place on yelp to grab breakfast before heading back to Vegas. Service was good, our server Mike was very attentive. Food tasted fresh and came out hot. It was $70 for two people for breakfast which I think was a little steep but not abnormal for the area. Overall a good place to check out.

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! From the moment I walked in, the staff was friendly, welcoming, and very attentive. The atmosphere was warm, clean, and comfortable. What truly makes this place special is the dedication of the owners. Even after 31 years, they still come in every day and work alongside their team. That level of passion and commitment really shows in the quality of the food and service.

I loved this brunch spot. I was visiting family and found this place on yelp yo have brunch off the 101. We sat outside on the patio as it was a perfect day. There was a well behaved fur baby there too which I appreciate. The food was great and the staff was so nice. The staff was attentive and made sure we were happy without food. There was only street parking from my view as I am not familiar with the area. Food was tasty. I'd recommend coming back here! They also had fresh squeezed OJ!

First time back here in almost 10 years! I stopped by with my friend for brunch after hiking at Fryman. Parking on a Sunday is almost impossible to find, but thankfully they had a few spots available at the lot in the back. We were seated right away. My friend ordered the eggs Benedict with potatoes and I had the Mediterranean omelette with a side of fruit (which they don't charge extra for!!!) My omelette was perfect and the fruit was fresh. My friend also enjoyed her meal and I tried some of her potatoes which were BOMB! Breakfast potatoes are usually a hit or miss for me, but these were perfectly cooked and seasoned. My only complaint from the meal was the service. Once we were seated, it took a while for someone to come by and take our orders, we were not checked on during the meal, and I had asked to add sausage to my omelette but I guess they forgot. Anyways, maybe it was an off day. The food was amazing so I would definitely give them another chance.

This place is owner onsite and has been in the valley for 30 years. Service is five star and portions are generous. The menu has salads wraps main dishes and drinks. Food is not prepared in advance so quality food will take time. Some parking in back and on street you may eat inside or on patio

Definitely won't be back here any time soon. We were walking by and thought this place was cute so we came back and we got a table. After we were seated it took the longest time for anyone to even come over to our table. We never got water or even silverware. When the waitress finally came over we ordered our food and drinks. The drinks came out pretty quickly but they got our coffee order wrong so that had to go remade. Then after another long period of time our food came out. My boyfriend said his food was ok but I did not like mine at all. The waffle was extremely soggy and the apples had no taste even though it was meant to be like an "apple pie" style. As we were eating not came to check on our table and my boyfriend had to go up to another waitress at the register and ask for our check. I also looked around to other tables and their food took long as well. But some servers were more attentive than others.

A bit pricey but a really cute patio and a long history. Solid food: panini had a perfectly grilled chicken breast and crusty bread. The breakfast lavash wasn't as good, possibly better without adding sausage. Overall, a good place to catch brunch in Studio City.

This place is a neighborhood GEM. The food is always delicious, and tastes like homemade with love. All the pancakes, omelettes, and the French toast options are to die for. The place is a best kept secret, with some indoor and outdoor seating. They also have take-out options. All of the staff are friendly and available to help (even when they are short on hands). You can tell that this place is family-run. My one complaint is the coffee - I think they started using a different bean/roast than prior. Quality of the coffee is low, and tastes stale/flavorless/watered down. All the espresso drinks were made incorrectly and the brewed coffee was a miss. Otherwise, this is a family favorite and my favorite spot for breakfast in Studio City! Highly recommend :)

a friend recommended this spot to me some time back. and i've been there several times since. it is tucked into a very busy strip on ventura blvd. but if you are lucky to arrive on a sunday morning before everyone else finds their way there, you can snag a decent parking spot and get seated right away. the owner is usually there. and she is very attentive and pleasant. the food quality is just wonderful. and i am so pleased that they offer eggs benedict. not easy to find on a menu these days. and the sauce has to be just light enough to not overpower and complement the dish instead. jumpin' java does this well. and their waffles = if you want to indulge in some really yummy stuff, get a waffle. i've only tried the basic waffle with no frills...it is AWESOME. this is a really reliable eatery. i'm confident that you will feel the same way too! read more

Been going to Jumpin Java for 25 years. Sona the owner has always been so welcoming and feels more like a friend now. It's rare for a locally owned restaurant to last this many years but I'm grateful they have. The food is amazing. Probably the best falafel I've ever had. Well I do like the restaurant especially the owner who's very caring and had a fabulous sandwich there last week... I went back today for the eggs benedict and I was very disappointed ...I found of the two eggs one was soft ...one was not and I specifically asked the yolks to be soft. The muffin was burnt and dry, very hard to cut into and I needed to ask for butter to put on top of the muffin . I was hoping for hash browns...they serve roasted potatoes with eggs benedict...too hravy & not a good combination plus it was too much a portion and it was too salty... the sauce was okay... wasn't great even though I know that they raved about it being homemade as most holiday sauces are in restaurants that I've been to. The bill came to $35 ...I've never paid so much for breakfast in my life ...I did ask for 2 tomato side of tomatoes and making 2 slices .. charge $3,50 for a cup of coffee was $5.50... the Benedict Was $21... not worth it... love the restaurant... love the care...I love the other food but not the benedict. read more

Charming 30-year old cafe with delicious food. My friend had a combo breakfast. I had the breakfast salad, which was delicious. The wait staff was attentive and engaging. We were blessed with a beautiful day, sunny with a warm breeze. Quiet space even with three other tables outside with us. Perfect breakfast/brunch place. read more

Looks like a sit down only restaurant but you can also order cafe drinks to go. The mochas came recommended from a friend and I had to check it out. I haven't tried the food but I can vouch that the mochas are really solid. read more

I've been here twice now, the food is good! However, the service can take a while, despite being some of the few clients, they still took a while to come and address our table. I will say I DO NOT recommend the iced chai late. It's literally just water and a splash of chai. There was no milk in it, just water. When I asked our server if the chai was made like this, he agreed and said they'd been making it that way. He didn't offer to substitute, or even offer milk or sugar. read more

Probably one of my favorite brunch places in studio city! Service is super attentive as there isn't as much seating here. Probably like 4 tables inside and 6 outside so come with smaller parties of 4 or less! But the food is so delicious! I always get this pancake burrito and it's amazing but they have everything from waffles to crepes! Parking is street only so try for the weekend because it's free but otherwise not too bad if it's not super busy. read more

I have driven by this place hundreds of times and finally had the chance to visit today for breakfast. First, please don't complain about parking. Everyone in this area knows the parking situation. Yes, it gets busy but it's Ventura Blvd, what do you expect? Besides the metered parking you can park in the residential areas behind Ventura. Staff was great and very accommodating. granted, I went during a not so busy time. I was seated right away and the food came out sooo quick. I got the vegan breakfast burrito. Let me tell you, the lavash makes all the difference. Portions are HUGE, so feel free to share your dishes. Definitely going back. read more

One of my top, favorite cafes in the Valley! I've been coming here since 2000 when I worked around the block and have been a regular ever since bringing friends and family here for a nice, full meal. There have never been any complaints! I've had the pancakes to the crepes to the sandwiches. I can't recommend just one thing because it's all good. The waffles with strawberry are huge and be sure to get an iced latte too - yum! Of course, weekend mornings are the busiest especially with the Sunday Farmers Market around the corner. Parking is tricky, but I recommend Ventura Place on the back alley - it's free! Bon appetite! read more

I spoke to the owner or the manager. They been doing breakfast burrito for 27 years. Well, they're been doing this for 27 years wrongfully. The wrapper is so dry. You can't tighten up the wrapping . The wrapper are crumbling like cake. Because they used lavash bread. Please do not call this contraptions a burrito! Call this something else or call it Breakfast $#%¥ . Mexican uses flour or corn tortilla. This is a big embarrassment doing these to a Mexican culinary tradition. read more

This family run business has been a part of the Ventura Blvd landscape since the 90's. BC (before covid), you had to wait a while to score a coveted table in the front patio on weekends. Now as restaurants struggle to open up again, Jumpin Java is not quite as slammed as before, but the quality of the food is still there. I've been here at least 12 times in the past and I don't think I've had a bad dish. For me there are two stand outs: The coffee and they have the Bacon. The coffee has a great flavor and they serve it in a nice big cup. The bacon is thick and meaty, not at all greasy and very flavorful. It is the best in town! But honestly, everything here is delicious - Eggs Benedict, the Breakfast combo etc. The side of fresh sliced fruit is really good (banana, blueberries, strawberries, black berries, cantaloupe, orange) and includes all my favorites. There is a lot of good stuff on the menu so more than 1 or 2 visits is necessary to take in all they have to offer. While the service is generally friendly and accommodating, at times, it can be slow. On more than one occasion, I have had to seek out a server for my bill, refills etc. I am hopeful that once they get settled with all the regulations of operating in a Covid world, the service will be as good as their food. Regardless, Jumpin Java is one of my top five favorite breakfast/lunch spots in all of LA. If you haven't been, then you need to visit - I'm a fan! read more

PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY! This place is so gross! DEFINITELY NOT IMPRESSED! Pretty small and measely salad portion for 18$. Barely any lettuce and nothing to make it exciting. Chicken was dry and only came with one small half filled cup of ranch and a drop of bbq sauce on burnt dried chicken . NOW IM NOY PLAYING WHEN I SAY THIS IS THE THE WORST MOST INEDIBLE Pasta DISGUSTING LIKE THE WORST BURNT MOST BLANDEST SUN-DRIED TOMATO CREAM EVER! It tasted like they burnt cheese and STIRRED heavy whipping cream into cold crushed tomato's! Omg and like I said for the price I'm definitly unhappy and would NOT recommend this place. I've been here years ago for the gigantic pancake they have and today was the time for a revisit since they are open with outdoor seating. The outdoor seating was pleasant and service was welcoming and attentive. A Garlic Chicken Ala Press Panini w/ Caesar Salad, A Filet Mignon Press w/ Salad, and Orange Blossom and Pistachio Pancakes were the order. Presentation for everything was impressive in look and size. I found both Sandwiches were overall good. I ordered an Eggs Florentine ~the spinach was not steamed or sautéed. I politely asked a server if they could cook it. She said that's not how they do their Florentine so I asked if they could PLEASE do it. The owner then came out and embarrassed in front of the other patrons saying that I need to let them know ahead of time if I want something a specific way. I let her know that I've never ordered that dish with them before nor have I ever eaten that dish w/the spinach raw, she continued to be defensive and loud. I asked her why she was scolding me like I was a kid, mind you my friend is on the phone with me the entire time and can hear everything (she was in shock, "why is this lady talking to you like this?") I was craving pancakes this morning and my cravings where pleasantly satisfied. I enjoyed every bite and so did my daughter. I got the orange blossom pistachio pancakes and the flavors where amazing. It had plenty of pistachios and the orange blossom taste added that extra kick. It was delicious!!! I got the s'mores Nutella pancake for my daughter and usual when items have Nutella it tends to be just a little. I make a point to come here every time I am in the area. If ever a place has earned a full row of stars, it is Jumpin Java. I have not been disappointed yet: The best breakfast I have ever had is their Jumpin Java Famous plate, which is scrambled eggs, fantastic home style potatoes, and the winner, their soujoukh sausage. Essentially it a more well-seasoned take on the typical breakfast platter. Mac and Cheese fans should definite try the Brie Mac with bacon. It is the creamiest Mac I have ever had the pleasure to eat. It's a generous portion and can work on its own as an entree or shared as an appetizer. Also in the pasta range, I adore their chicken and sun dried tomato pesto pasta. It is the perfect balance between a cream and tomato sauce. Also service is wonderful and ambience is great. First off... I've been coming to this establishment for over 10 years. I love this place. Great selection, food is very tasty. One of my favorite things about this is the owner. She's extremely lovely. However I had a terrible experience which left a bad taste in my mouth... My GF and I ordered breakfast , we get the same thing every time . After 25 minutes, we see other tables that sat down after us already enjoying their food and we were still waiting for ours. I asked someone if you can just find out how much longer it's going to be... About three minutes later the owner comes out with our food and asked us if we need anything else and we said we're good... As I took the first bite of my thick French toast it was completely raw inside that I spat it out. Then I start ripping open the other pieces of French toast on my plate to find them all uncooked and raw inside... Yuck! When the owner came by to check on us, I said this is not edible. It's completely uncooked inside. And she said this dish takes longer to cook...and well you wanted your food right away so I brought it out to you. I then said..... I never wanted my food right away I just inquired how much longer it's gonna be. And then she tells me she knew it wasn't done yet, but she wanted to get it out to me because she thought I wanted it right away. I told her you KNEW this wasn't done and you still brought it out to me!!!! I said you can't knowingly bring out uncooked food. I'll get sick from this. I know this dish, I've had it so many times , I never waited this long for it and if I had to wait longer.....Then just tell me it's gonna be 5 more minutes or 10 more minutes, don't just bring me out raw uncooked food . I said I'll pass on this and you don't have to bring me anything else. Needless to say we were very disappointed. My girlfriend's eggs were runny , and her pancakes were undercooked as well, but she didn't want to say anything in the way the owner handled my meal. So unfortunately, we will never be going back to J.Java , I really don't want to get sick. The wontons were our favorite and I completely understand why the peanut noodles have a cult following haha. If it's your first time, I'd personally order both. It's cozy, lively, and comfortable inside. I loved the ambiance and the service was so wholesome. Everyone kept checking on us and our waiter was the sweetest. It felt like they genuinely wanted us to have a good time and they gave us the sweetest goodbye on our way out. Love how easy parking was as well in their lot especially on Ventura. Already looking forward to coming back for more of those wontons.

The guy behind me and the woman behind him exchanged glances with me but whatever. Just as the bartender is getting the last of the 2 girl's their drink, their friend walks up. And I just say to her, "do not cut. Your friends just did. Don't do it again." She says she's not and asks like it's her first day on earth. Then .3 seconds later her friend that was getting her drink orders on behalf of the girl that just stepped in front. And I say, "I just said don't do that and you just did it". And she denied that she was doing it. So I look at the bartender and I say, "they've cut multiple times." To which he raises his hand with a sort of like, "I only work here" shrug and I walked off. It was so rude. The service is so bad. It makes me really sad because I think it's a really cool place, but it's not worth it. Especially if the bar staff is not going to do anything to help the situation. Very disappointing.

There were two celebrations happening that evening, and our server gave us a heads-up that it might get louder near our original table. He offered to move us to another spot where we could hear each other better, which I really appreciated. The space has a moody, lounge-like feel with low lighting, greenery, and a cozy covered patio. It felt lively without making conversation difficult once we moved. We started with the charcuterie board, which had a nice mix of cheeses, cured meats, fruit, nuts, crackers, olives, and cornichons. We also ordered the Chilean Seabass Skewers with citrus yuzu ponzu, and those ended up being such a hit that we ordered a few more. The fish was tender and flavorful, and they were easy to keep reaching for. Our Lychee Martinis were refreshing, lightly sweet, and almost too pretty to drink. The purple color from the butterfly pea flower made them stand out, and each came garnished with a lychee. Rouge also offers valet, which made arriving on Ventura Boulevard much easier. We stumbled upon this cute little restaurant for breakfast and had a great experience! We originally sat outside at one of their shaded patio tables (they have about 8 out there), but it was a bit warm, so after we placed our order, we asked if we could move indoors. The staff was very accommodating and moved us without hesitation. Inside, it's cozy with about the same number of tables--small, relaxed, and welcoming. My husband and I love to share one sweet and one savory dish when we go out, and both options we tried were delicious. We ordered the orange blossom pistachio pancakes and the smoked salmon eggs Benedict topped with black caviar. The flavors were unique and well balanced, and the portions were just right--not too big, not too small. I don't drink coffee, so I can't comment on that, but I was happy to see tropical passion iced tea on the menu--so refreshing! One thing that really stood out was the presence of the owner. She was walking around, checking in with tables, and even shared a few insights about the flavors and ingredients. It added a personal and thoughtful touch to the experience. Cons: The food is a bit pricey and parking can be a challenge. All in all, the staff was friendly, attentive, and quick to refill drinks. Would give it a zero if I could. Shop owner on the phone was beyond rude. Hostess was rude. Come here if you want attitude. Awful. Service from start to finish was not good. Food was okay. Paid for a meal for 3, & immediately after finishing our food we were continuously asked to leave our table. When we said no (because we paid to be there) we were met with a guilt trip, rolled eyes, and heavy sighs. Id understand if we had been there for a long time already, but we had not even been there for more than 35-40 minutes at this point. We still had coffee to finish and were waiting on an Uber to pick us up as well. Very unprofessional and rude. As someone who has worked as a server, I understand the boundaries of overstaying at a table- but when a guest hasn't even been there for a full hour, and is still finishing items they paid money for, you leave them alone, or at the *very* least- ask politely. read more

This place is one of my favorite spots on Ventura. They have a huge menu but everything tastes delicious! I got a breakfast lavash with bacon and homestyle potatoes and i LOVED it! The potatoes were cooked and seasoned just right. my husband got the chocolate chip pancake and a waffle egg sandwich which he loved. the bacon here is delicious and crispy if you ask! The coffee is also another level! it's not watered down and tastes great. the staff is so sweet and accommodating you really feel like family here. The chef Sona is so caring for every customer and makes sure everyone is taken care of. Definitely a staple spot to stop at on sunday's after hitting the farmers market and very kid and dog friendly! Outdoor seating is so cute and they always bring out a bowl for the dogs that come with their owners. Love this place and highly recommend!! read more

Just had breakfast at Jumpin Java in Studio City and it reminded me why this spot has been around so long. Big portions, fluffy, and full of flavor without being too heavy. You can tell the food is made fresh and not rushed. Couldn't even make it to the point of placing an order because the employee was so beyond rude and refused to answer my questions regarding the menu. Since I have an allergy, I mentioned that I was asking a question to avoid any mishaps, but this man had the audacity to DENY me service simply because I have an allergy. He repeatedly said he couldn't deal with me because he had many other customers to speak to, disregarding me and my value as a customer. I am an avid traveler so I always try the local foods of each place. I'm sure this cafe would have had great food, but unfortunately the shop owners are not kind or inclusive. But this restaurant is one of the few places I would NEVER recommend. Worst customer service. Worst attitude. Don't go to Jumpin Java if you actually want to have a nice morning ;) read more

Ever since COVID-19 hit I started ordering takeout from here on postmates and let me tell you I probably ordered 4 times a week. The menu selection is ridiculous and the quality of food I received each time was better than the last. I decided to pop by with a friend today for breakfast and I was just as happy. All the servers have smiles on their faces and try to make sure you feel as comfortable and "normal" as possible. We ordered the orange blossom pancakes and the breakfast lavash to share and it came out looking amazing. We were offered hand sanitizer a couple times and before we sat the host cleaned the table and chairs very thoroughly with gloves on to be extra careful. Obviously this won't be an extremely "normal" dining experience, but for now it's the best it can get! Can't wait to come back! read more

Never write reviews and only doing this with a positive intention that the owners might read this and look into it.. live close by and never come cause every time the food has really been average. Years later most places were closed this early so we went for Sunday breakfast.. an a huge fan of eggs Benedict... these were really not good .. again sorry but the sauce was not good., the avocado was too ripe. (Replaced it from the meat) the eggs were perfectly cooked. it's hard to miss French fries but they too were not cooked enough. $16 for this plate on top of it.. My husband ordered an egg, mushroom, feta cheese sandwich and that too was really not great and the food took a long time to come out which is fine if the food is great. Hope they read this and care enough to make improvements. read more

I love this place! I've been coming here for 10+ years. The food is always consistently good. The service is excellent! They always accommodate my dietary restrictions with no hesitation. Carlos always greets me with open arms and I feel welcomed. The energy is fun and relaxed. If you are into star watching this is a great place. The lavash press is mighty tasty. The veggie crepes are yummy. The prices are extremely reasonable for the quality and portions you get. One of my favorite places to eat in LA for breakfast because I always leave happy :) read more

Btw, they're portions are pretty generous & prices are unbeatable for what you get! BATHROOM IS NOT SAFE. The bathroom has cheap blinds on it and has clear windows that look at ground level to a sketchy alley. My wife was using the restroom and some creep was looking in the window trying to peak at her! This place has really, really good breakfast. I would recommend the granola pancakes and anything that comes with breakfast potatoes, because they are amazing!! Unlike the Hollywood hotspot breakfasts, I've never had to wait here, and was always able to get a table. The service is pretty good and the prices are decent. read more

I walked by looking for a place for lunch and was drawn in by the fact that they had gluten free bread. I ended up getting the Sicily salad and it was perfect! The portions were amazing and they didn't skimp on cheese or olives like a lot of restaurants do. So so good! I've def found a new spot for lunch!!! read more
