This is hands down the best açaí spot in San Diego. I use to be a regular at Sambazon in Encinitas before JW. No more! How crazy that Sambazon is the manufacturer of açaí and yet this local business does it better. The ingredients are all fresh. If fresh strawberries from the farmers market are on your bowl or if they've made fresh granola or peanut butter that day. Then you've lucked out! If you love peanut butter, add it! What a filling combo too where most açaí bowls leave you hungry later. This is not the case here. A heads up: The spot is not great for groups due to limited seating. If you're solo or with a friend your solid otherwise be prepared to take it to go. Parking can be an issue so be patient, it's worth it. The owner is a delight to see and speak with. It was all about the Cookie Monster Smoothie when I visited this juice bar because I do like cookies very much and have its flavor inside a smoothie, well that's just grand. The base for the smoothie was Rickaroon, coconut, vanilla bean, date, and almond milk. You get to choose a cookie and I went for the Megaroon cookie to add more of that "roon." The smoothie cost $8.95. I tad high I thought for the size. The smoothie had excellent flavor and the "roon" flavor came through well and so did the coconut. The smoothie basically tasted like a macaroon cookie with fresh coconut. The vanilla bean flavor was subtle and the date flavor was very low. I would of liked to have tasted and seen more date in the smoothie. I like when there are small bits of dates floating about, but then again that's just me. The smoothie was on the lighter side and easy to drink through a straw. However it would of benefited from being thicker. It did not pass the straw test, with it standing on its own, in the center of the smoothie. It was a tasty smoothie and if you like cookies this is one to check out. We were visiting SD and decided to give Juice Wave a shot to try a local place while we're on vacation. The bowls are big and PACKED. We got the Pitay-Dye and the Original açaí bowl. Both were outstanding. If you do not get their house made nut butters added to your bowl you are doing yourself a disservice. We did not get the woman's name who helped us but she answered our questions and was super friendly. Those two pb/ab are made in shop and they were very tasty. There's a list of toppings in the shop but we were informed they're add-ins for the smoothies. Might have to come back and try those sometime. Overall, 4/5 Cleanliness: One of the workers wasn't wearing a mask or gloves. She was refilling the station so that made me uneasy. 2/5 Customer service: They were kind and brought our bowls straight to the car. Wow. SO GOOD. Worth the hefty price tag. Two juices, one mini juice shot, and one bowl before tip was around $38. She makes the granola herself and uses local farmers for all her produce. Went during COVID. Employees dont wear masks when making bowls and were chatting it up with their friends that were hanging out in the store also with no mask. Bowls looked good but it's so easy to put your mask on, especially when working with uncooked ingredients, to prevent spreading a disease going around that it makes me wonder what other health codes they are violating. I grabbed an açaí bowl from Juice Wave yesterday upon the recommendation of a friend. The açaí base itself was really smooth and creamy, an almost ice-cream like texture, which I hadn't experienced before. I actually loved it! The granola and seasonal fruit were also delicious. The only thing I would change about my bowl was the level of sweetness. I don't know if it was the base itself or the honey drizzle, but it was sweet to the point of being a bit over the top.
