Yum! I don't think I've ever had a "pure" açaí bowl before (usually mixed with blueberries, strawberries, etc.), but I'm a big fan now. This little store is inside the Bakeshop by Coco Playa so the sign is hard to spot. They sell açaí bowls (in a cup) and smoothies + Brazilian cheese bread :) The acai is smooth and creamy, and I liked how it was sweet (honey added) and didn't melt very quickly. Super tasty! They do a good job layering on the toppings and making the cup look pretty. There's an option to do half acai and half coconut sorbet; the sorbet was super sweet and packed a punch of coconut flavor-- so good and refreshing! The blueberries seemed thawed from frozen so some of them were still frosty but they were still sweet. MT really enjoyed the pistachio butter too. They did away with their Tuesday special of unlimited toppings, but now you get unlimited regular toppings everyday with regular+ sizes. Premium options (like protein powder, pistachio butter, almond butter, goji berries, etc) come with an additional cost. Definitely pricey but a special, fun, and tasty treat! We enjoyed Açaí Carioca so much we went 3 times in a week! This location has better parking (a shopping plaza lot), was less busy, friendlier service, and had a few seats outside compared to their other location. They changed their menu, and now they have "unlimited toppings" every day instead of just Tuesdays, but many of the topping options are a "premium" upcharge (which I don't love) but at least now I can go whenever I feel like instead of timing my visit specifically for Tuesdays. Prices can really stack up though, so I just stick to the basic toppings. I got a half acai/half coconut sorbet cup with all the fruits and coconut shavings. It's SO good, I highly recommend the coconut sorbet to any coconut fan! The texture and flavor of real açaí here is so amazing, completely a different experience from any of the other açaí places. Gaht damn! I'll never be able to enjoy other açaí spots the same after trying this one. It's truly so much better than that frozen one that's sold everywhere. They have a range of sizes with my go to choice being medium for $15 with 3 toppings and I think it's totally worth it. The place was a little hidden at first as it shares the same physical space as a cookie spot so make sure you look carefully for their sign. I looked to my right and there was a couple filling out these laminated menu cards, and I saw the signs that told people to customize your own acai smoothies, which I think is a pretty unique way to order. I was tempted to get the large but stuck with the medium because this was the first time trying this place and I didn't want to be stuck with too much of it if I didn't like it. Plus, it's $18, which is on the high side in terms of pricing. It gets busy around lunch time too. I'm now thinking that maybe I should've gotten the coconut sorbet base instead of the Carioca signature acai blend. It tastes okay, though I do like the peanut butter they use. First, it comes in a cup which I find extremely hard to eat bc you want it get a little of everything not just the stuff that's at the top. The menu is only build your own. The price is $15.50 for a medium which seems reasonable until you realize that it's in a cup and that size of cup included 3 add ins (anything besides the açaí itself). Given that a traditional bowl has 3 fruits plus granola etc it would be close to $20 to create just a standard bowl (in a cup) bc every additional add in was $1. Thankfully the açaí itself tasted great! Lastly and probably the most disappointing thing about my entire experience was that the blueberries were frozen instead of fresh. They were mostly thawed/previously frozen blueberries so they had a squishy gritty texture that was not pleasant. For the price we should be getting fresh fruit! read more
