I'm pretty much a creature of habit and so I'll get the same smoothie: Peanut Butter Split- all-natural peanut butter with omega-3s from flax oil blended with organic soy or almond milk, banana & frozen coconut milk How awesome does that sound right now? Sometimes I'll switch it up and get the Protein buzz - your choice of soy, whey or hemp protein, organic soy or almond milk, blueberries or raspberries & banana. I first discovered Juice Generation looking for something healthy around Hunter College. Nearby tucked inside an Equinox gym, I found it. According to the Yelp reviews, people claimed it better than Jamba Juice which I had drank plenty times before, so I had to try it...I am now converted. I'm just a poor college kid, but I'm ready to admit this place is worth it even if somewhat pricey. The first one I tried was the "I Love Watermelon" which I'll admit, I didn't really like very much. It was just a little bland to me. I ordered it because I thought of how much I love watermelon, but apparently I don't like it in juice form. So I figured I'd give the place another shot, and I'm so glad I did. I came back and gave Mucho Mango a try, and it was amazingly tasty! Then, I came back and tried Peaches and Dreams and upon first sip I knew I would become a regular here. The use of organic coconut milk, soy milk, and OJ give the smoothie this creamy texture that's just so incredibly heavenly. (FYI I always order mine with no agave...the natural sugars make it sweet enough, I hate overly sweet). Can't wait to go back and try some more flavors! I ordered a smoothie with banana, spinach, mint, cocoa powder, cocoa nibs, and almond milk. The bananas they use are extra ripe which makes a perfectly sweet smoothie. My friend ordered a refreshing watermelon, pineapple, orange, and ginger juice. We also ordered an apple pie pop tart to share. It was out of this world! The apple pie filling was sweet with a touch of cinnamon and the pastry was so flakey. Update: I buy a smoothie at Juice Generation at least twice a week, on my way to school. I went to juice generation hoping for a filling and delicious bowl. It was ok, but definitely not worth the price tag. I ordered the pb and jelly bowl. When it came, it looked sloppy. Additionally, the bowl was more pb than açaí smoothie mixture. There wasn't just pb on top, but clumps spread throughout. While I love pb, when I order an açaí bowl I except açaí with pb not pb with açaí. That being said, the fruit was fresh and tasty. The açaí mixture, when I got a bite of it and not pb, was yummy. Close to central park i always make my stop here before going to the park. Nice space that welcomes you. I'm a fan of the mr. greengenes full of veggies that get me energized through the day. Also the pb & joe a peanut butter almond milk with coffee smoothie. All smoothies have the choice of adding in natural sweeteners and i always go with the dates. For a fruit smoothie you can't go wrong with i love watermelon. With watermelon juice as a base and a mix of various fruits its a nice meal in the morning. Stopped in here after my 5 mile run around Central Park. Very accessible and close. I had the Garden Green Coco which was Kale, Spinach, Coconut and Banana juice served in a coconut. Super tasty. Just wish there was more of it and they gave me a spoon to eat coconut meat. I had to ask a few times before I got one. I also did a ginger cayenne shot with a random stranger whom I became friends with after on Instagram (follow me at MarkGLiving) lol. There are acai bowls there too, which I love. Couldn't get enough of my simply perfect coco acai smoothie and my friend's red dragon smoothie was the bomb dot com! The staff making the smoothies are so fast and robotic that it's mesmerizing. I frankly don't think smoothies are worth $7, but hey, once in a while ain't bad, especially when they're this natural and refreshing. Solid juice spot in the neighborhood with fast service, though definitely gets crowded and is loud inside. Came here on a Saturday and was happy with how quickly they got us in and out with our juices despite a bit of a line. I got the Get UR Green On juice, which is kale, spinach, pineapple, green apple and mint. It's definitely pricey ($8.95 for 20 oz) but I liked how smooth the juice was and that despite its greenness it didn't taste at all bitter (nor was it too sweet). They didn't totally fill it up to the top which annoyed me slightly, since it's so much per oz, but it was so crowded that it wasn't worth me asking about it. T got the Citrus Super C juice, which is pineapple, grapefruit, orange and mint. His was pretty sweet but wasn't very minty which for him was good but I might have preferred a little more mint if I was him. They take credit card and you're definitely incentivized to get the 20 oz as it's roughly $1 difference between the 12oz and the 20oz, making the price point far more economical at 20oz. read more

Juice Generation is like a built-in reclamation project for your mind and body that is readily available. I spent a lot of time in this neighborhood a couple years ago and JG was in my regular rotation for a variety of reasons. They have cold-busting elixirs that either work or provide a placebo effect. Either way, they are full of antioxidants and will make you feel better if you are coming down with something. They even have hot ones for the Winter when you need more than a hot coffee or tea. They have multiple juice options, straight or as part of one of their creations and I have rarely, if ever, been disappointed with one. If you are looking for a sugared up Jamba Juice with tons of extra calories, this is not for you. In addition to all the liquid fixations available at JG, the food is pretty decent as well. The sandwiches are good on the go and the soups, when not presented to you at a temperature of 345 degrees, are hearty and well made. In the end, it can never be as perfect and organic and Adam picked this juice off the tree and handed it to Eve, but is very healthy and comparatively unmatchable. Their menu is extensive enough to keep you coming back almost daily for a month without replicating the same order, however after finding a favorite smoothie it's always hard to stray from the tried and true flavors you love. I've had the Antioxidant All-Star which is a hearty berry-centric smoothie chock-full of mangosteen, pomegranates and rounded out with the sweet, full flavor of bananas. For those looking for a tropical, coconut-inspired escape, try the Mucho Mango or the Acai Extreme Energy for a natural way to power up. Yum, I'm feeling the spring time upon us. So torn about these kinds of things. Do I have $9 bucks to be spending on drinks? Nope! Do I still want the drinks? I do! The thing I can say about Juice Generation is you are getting both quality and a reasonable quantity, both things worth paying a little more for. There aren't any mysterious fats, sweeteners, or unexpected calories going into your drinks- I like knowing that only the ingredients I read are going into my drink and that they're all fresh since you can see everything they use nicely laid out behind the counter. There are a few fruit heavy smoothies and protein laden beverages on the menu, which I think are often the bane of well intentioned people because they think that going into a "healthy" store means everything on the menu is "healthy". Fresh? Definitely. But low calorie? Maybe not. If you watch your diet and enjoy eating healthfully but aren't necessarily a raw vegan veggie juice fanatic, try my two favorites: Daily Detox for juice (carrot, cucumber, apple, ginger) and Mr. Greengenes for the smoothie option (mango, banana, kale, spinach, raw agave, almond milk). Both are delicious and have a hint of sweetness while still packing a nice healthy dose of veggies. I expected that refreshing, tangy acai berry taste but received mouthfuls of coconut flavor that had an extravagant sweetness due to excessive agave nectar. Any acai flavor was pretty much absent. The fruit and granola on top were the saving graces, but I relied on them to mask the unpleasant smoothie rather than complement it. Love the peanut butter/coconut milk/banana smoothie. I get it with almond milk and without the added sweetner-they add agave to almost EVERYTHING here but they write it so small on the menu that you don't realize that it's in it. I know agave isn't super bad for you, but most drinks here are plenty sweet as it is, so I try to remember to ask for it without. I love that all the smoothies here are 24 ounces...which is often way more than I want, but that often works out well because I can have leftovers. I'm also a fan of the Smooth Strawberry, but I sub pineapple for apple juice. Anything made with coconut milk here is great. Make sure it says frozen coconut milk, though, and not just coconut pieces (I made that mistake once, hoping for a tropical taste and feeling disappointed). As for food...get there early if you want a large selection. My favorite sandwich is the ginger-marinated tofu one-the sunflower bread it comes on is awesome, and it's just an all-around tasty sandwich! I'll go in the morning and put it in the fridge for later if I know I'm going to want it, because that's definitely the first sandwich to sell out in my experience. The kale and avocado salad is good too, with raisins to add a touch of sweetness. The avocado is mashed up and pretty much just covers the kale, so there's not really a need for the dressing-but it is good dressing (it's just oil with lemon). The fruit salad is one of my faves, because its got fruit that you just don't normally see in other fruit salads. The bottom is almost a yogurt-like consistency, mashed coconut and vanilla bean, and then its layered with kiwi, mango, and berries. Then there's a separate container with hemp granola that's also yummy. Soups-haven't actually ordered one, but I've tried several samples of different flavors and never been wowed enough to order a whole cup/bowl. They have different flavors each day of the week, with a few standard ones that don't change. The pre-made juices are expensive, but they charge the going rate for a fresh pressed juice (around $9). The all-green juice isn't sweet at all (it has some lemon and ginger in it), and the guy behind the counter was nice enough to pump some agave into it, as he said he gets requests for that a lot since it's not easy to stomach the all-greens juice. The staff here are quick and kind. This particular location is not conducive to hanging around (I'd rather go to the 103rd st one for that, or even the West 4th st one), as the chairs are on the way to the fridge containing the food, so you have to awkwardly pass by people to get to it. It's also where people stand while waiting for their smoothies. If you're in the hood and want a smoothie or juice or healthy snack/meal to-go, this is a good spot! read more

As far as smoothie places go, this is the best. My reasons? Voila: 1. They use fresh, local-when-possible, organic ingredients. 2. They have delicious smoothies with ingredients like acai, goji berry, ginger, or just your regular strawberries and banana, plus boosters. 3. They use recycled plastic cups that - unlike Jamba Juice's - don't leach chemicals into your yummy smoothie. 4. Their sandwiches are fresh-made, and delicious, especially when grilled and cheesy-melty. 5. If you need a snack, they have crazy healthy raw food bars, trail mix, and protein muffins. 6. The people who work there are always friendly and helpful. They deserve all the tips they get and more! 7. In the winter, you can get a hot drink like their cold-busting ginger and orange juice drink. Peps you right up. 8. Everything always looks hyper-sterilized and organized. Hallelujah! There is a lovely fresh juice bar in the Big Apple. It is rather expensive (approx. $9 US for a large juice) but is worth it, not just for the fresh produce used but the lovely market like atmosphere of this store. I found that the quality of the juice (high) was consistent across multiple visits and the staff were always friendly, and patient for me when I was trying to count out change (to use it up hehe!). I like to go to the UPW and found Juice Generation on W. 72nd between Columbus and Amsterdam Ave. The location is a zoo, busy and crowded. I went on a Friday at 3pm and my goodness the queue was all the way outside, and the customers inside waiting for their juice/smoothie are not conscious of others trying to go to the fridge. I love the kale avocado salad. The avocado is blended into the dressing and massaged into the kale YUMMM. The raisins and sunflower seeds on top are a nice sweet, hearty treat. I'm not sure why there are 2 slices of lemons inside. Sort of a ridiculous garnish and you can't really squeeze the juice out of it. I like this place alot. I would say I go maybe 2-3 times a month. Usually, when I make a run to Trader Joe's. My first impression was it was very clean, bright & fresh. The employees were moving so fast, it was like watching ants working in a sand dune, throwing fruit here and there. I felt like I had just walked into The Umpa Lumpa Juice Factory. So I joined in the line for the golden ticket. Pom Berry Blast was my first drink. I love that drink. Its my second favorite. I still get it occasioanlly when I have a taste for something tart. I have done their Juice Cleanse as well. I wasn't brave enough to go Supa Dupa Green the first try, not even the first 5 tries. Needless to say, once you go green, you never go back. The quality of their products is excellent. I deducted only one star because of the space and juice quantity. The Space: Let's be real here, the line is usually out the door and the store is always jam packed. You guys have alot of customers and alot of money is rolling through that door on a daily bases. Why don't you get a bigger store? Why don't you own more than one juicer? Do you know that you could double your profit if you had a bar on both sides of the register making drinks? There has been a few times, I simply kept walking because the line was out the door. The reality is this is NY and no one wants to wait long for anything. Not even a drink. I have total faith in the quickness of the employees but the place needs more space and employees to handle the amount of customers that come through there. Juice Quantity: If I'm paying almost $9 for a drink, I want a large cup. The cup that the Pom Berry Blast is served in is considered a large cup.
