There's seating to the right as you walk in, and a huge menu on the left you can decide on what you want. They have smoothies and acai bowls. I have always been skeptical regarding how healthy bowls and smoothies are. I have trouble believing that they aren't anymore than sundaes with a twist or glorified milkshakes. Playa Bowls didn't prove me wrong. I had the almond joy bowl (or something like that). Basically almonds, coconut flakes, and bananas on an enormous amount of chia pudding (no one should ever eat that much chia....) on top of a little granola. It was tasty, but WAY too much chia. Also, there was no way this "healthy" meal was less then 600-700 calories. Conveniently Playa Bowls doesn't display their calories. Isn't that the law for chain restaurants in NYC? Playa Bowls is brand new on Second Avenue on the Upper East Side. I'm glad I was walking by early and I had the place to myself so I could take a ton of photos. The employee behind the counter was so friendly and knowledgeable about the products. This granola is much better than the granola I made with my friends when I lived in California. I wanted the small bag of gluten free to take home but I didn't want to carry it during my walk. When I returned the place was so crazy busy I wasn't going to wait just to purchase a bag of gluten free granola. The line was out the door. They have a lot of snacks that look good to. Everything is fresh. The atmosphere takes you away. They have plenty of seating both inside and outside. There's a back room with intimate seating that the employee called the patio in back. The gentleman working (perhaps the manager) offered many suggestions and answered my many, many questions. In the end I got the Pink Power Pitaya Bowl and substituted the granola for blueberries. So yummy and the perfect pick me up.
