Love Playa Bowls--best açaí bowls hands down!!! They're hearty and you get a nice size bowl/amount for the price. The options are insane! My favorite is the power -açaí bowl w/ peanut butter (shown in the picture). My kids love the mucho mango (also in the picture) and the Stupid Cupid (not pictured). This particular location is a nice size. They have a few tables inside as well as a seating area. There is usually seating outside as well but the entire sidewalk block is under construction at the moment. I've never experienced bad customer service. I've dined in, ordered online for pickup, AND I've had it delivered before. Always a 10/10! read more

A little pricey for how simple the acai bowls are, but they were refreshing and not bad. I got a bowl with a split base (half banana, half acai), and I'm really glad I did because having two different bases added some variety in flavor. Would not recommend their oatmeal bowls at all. They were super plain and had few toppings. The one I got was just a big bowl of thick, tasteless oatmeal with a thin layer of toppings. Very expensive for what it was, which could've been made better at home. Don't like how they use plastic bowls for their cold bowls. Their spoons are 100% compostable though, but there is no separate compost bin in the store. All the plastic bowls and spoons are thrown away together in the trash... I don't know if I'd return for a $15+ acai bowl here. Maybe if I was really craving an acai bowl. Or maybe I'll try Juice Generation a block away. read more

When you swipe your subway card for the station heading in the opposite direction you want to go, and there is no way to cross to the other side, you have no choice but to head back up streetside and find a way to spend 18 minutes. If this happens to you around breakfast time, I recommend a Playa Bowl. The shop is small, with comfortable, cushy seating in the form of big, living room chairs that you just sink into. Other tables had regular chairs, and there were also seats at a little bar area. The refrigerated section offers a variety of drinks and juices. You order acai and other bowls at the counter. When ours arrived, it was topped with a bunch of great-looking, fresh, fruit and some granola. It was so pretty! And on top of that, it tasted delicious. Hands down one of my favorite Playa Bowl locations! They have indoor and outdoor seating which is really great if you want to have a bowl by yourself or catch up with friends. I got the 20 oz Acai Energy smoothie ($9.95). It was very refreshing and perfect for the 60 degree day we had on President's Day! I drank my smoothie in Central Park. There's a bathroom in the back, but you first need a code to enter the back. And then another code for the actual bathroom. There are a few tables and seating options inside. Somewhat new location that opened in the summer which is when I stopped in. This review is just a few months late lol. The inside is cute with the blue wallpaper and blue neon sign in the back. I like that there is some seating at the front by the window. This place feels like a slightly more upscale place for what it is but something about it also feels like it's been here for a long time (which it hasn't) so that was odd. Standard spot for acai with lots of options. When I walked in someone else was waiting for their order so I worried it might take some time for my order to come out but I got mine before they got their's. I sat down inside to eat my order. It was pretty much what I expected. There was a mosquito dancing around my order and around me so I ate quickly and got the heck out of there. I came in here and was literally transported. It's so cute and beachy and so unlike the rest of NYC. You come in here and you literally feel like you're on vacation. There's so much seating-- including tables with outlets so you can even do work here if you want (unsure about wifi, though). I ordered ahead an acai energy smoothie, replacing the strawberries with mangoes for no extra charge. The total came to just under $10, which is a WIN for smoothies in NYC. This smoothie was refreshing, sweet, and THICK. If you don't like a thick smoothie, don't come here (but who is out there who does not like a thick smoothie. I LOVE thick smoothies.). I genuinely felt like I was drinking an entire meal just with this cup in hand. They have a huge menu, with not just smoothies, but also acai bowls, juices, and coffee. Playa Bowls is easily the best place to get an açaí bowl on the Upper West Side. Definitely beats Juice Generation and Juice Press. The fruit is always fresh, the portions are the perfect size, and the bases of the bowls are blended to perfection (not too liquid-y, not too frozen or icy). THEY CAN'T COMPETE WITH JUICE GENERATION!!! I got an açaí bowl one day and it had a weird taste- there's some kind of fake, synthetic additive. Doesn't taste like real food. Another day I got oatmeal and it was just an overpriced, big cup of thick, goopy oatmeal with peanut butter and fruit slapped on top. And oatmeal should not cost $15 no matter what you put on it. I really like their bowls here I've ordered delivery a few times through DoorDash, but today was my first time actually ordering pick up through their app and picking it up myself. I placed my order at 9 o'clock through the Playa Bowls app while I was inside a flare bowl at 9:15 when it said my order was complete I went to the register and they hadn't even checked their online orders at all so I had to wait an additional 15 minutes and I was just a little taken aback because I saw DoorDash drivers picking up orders so I couldn't understand how my order got overlooked especially considering I told the cashier I was placing my order online. Long story short I waited 30 minutes for a bowl that they rushed to make and is way messier than what I'm used to from them and the fruit were barely cut up. The bowl is still very delicious. Just a mess. I'm hoping that this was a one off situation in the next time I go I have a better experience. That said I do wish they would've handled me a little bit better considering I was very patient. read more
