I dropped into this salon because it was convenient and I desperately needed a manicure. But wow, never again. I know the nail tech meant well, but she cut and filed my nails really raggedy and uneven. I had to re file them when I got home! The whole place is cluttered with random crappy purses, face masks and other random trinkets they have for sale hanging all over the walls. I got a bad vibe walking in, and should have just left, but I gave it a shot and won't be back. read more

Well this is really crazy. I don't why I would spent $17 to remove my nails off and got this bloody scene. I have to put a bandage on my finger everyday now until I don't know when. After they got my nail like this, there was no any kind of apology. They even say that this happen because my nail is too thin instead of their skill issues. What is more interesting is that they told me to come back later. The attitude really irritates me that this is my first time rating on Yelp. $250. $250 dollars is what I spent to get my hair relaxed. I asked the women before hand if it was a good idea for me to relax my hair or if I would risk damaging it. She said it was perfectly fine. Look at the picture attached and tell me it is perfectly fine. My hair grows very slowly and I have been trying to grow it out for some years now and now I have to spend even more money going to a different salon to get it all chopped out. I decided maybe I could try and save it by washing it right away and using protein treatments and leave-in conditioners. After a few days of trying, I decided to go back and have a refund. It's absurd that I paid these people $250 to them to fry and completely damage my hair beyond repaid. The women then began to scream at me and threatened to call the police just for asking for a refund. They are rude, unprofessional and have no idea what they are doing. read more

I think this is a classic you get what you pay for. I was in a few weeks ago for a basic manicure to clean up my hangnails. I think the final result was fine, but, the person used a Dremel tool with a sand paper bit that was used on other people and then was used on another client after me. That is an extremely dangerous practice. I do plan on going back but I will be very firm in inspecting their sanitation protocols and saying "no" to anything I think is unsafe, or just leaving and going somewhere better but more expensive. read more

I decided to gamble on a $10 haircut and lost. One of the worst haircuts I've ever received. Don't get me wrong, the people here are nice enough and I'd really rather not write a terrible review but I'm just very, very disappointed with what I got. I came in, hopeful, with pictures of how I've had my hair cut in the past to show them just how I wanted it. I mean, it's pretty simple: Long on top, short on the sides. Instead, I got very short all around and uneven in patches on the top. Seriously! There were strands of long hair interspersed with shorts ones! It literally looked like I took a lawnmower to my head. Afterward, she asked me if I liked it but I was much too disappointed to even speak. I paid the $10 plus tip and left. I immediately walked back to my apartment and shaved my head. It was only $10 but now I have to wait a month or 2 for my hair to grow back so I can have it how I like it. Worst manicure I have ever gotten. Not a single one of my nails are the same shape, some are wayyy too rounded, some are a squared round, some are....god knows what. My cuticle was clearly bleeding and she sprayed acetone on it. I only got a clear coat and for whatever reason it dried with all of these weird striations...I asked for a thicker polish so maybe that would dry smooth...no better. They're just a mess. Went to get a gel manicure and pedicure they rushed through the entire thing. They kept stopping my pedi to give hair cuts to other walk in clients. Gave me the manicure while someone else was doing my feet. The person doing my manicure was shaking and got gel all over the sides of my nails. When I brought it to her attention she took the brush with acetone to clean it but obviously it didn't work because it's GEL! I recently got a haircut here and had a terrible experience! First, Judy kept asking me if I dyed my hair myself. The first time, I responded politely with "No, actually I paid a lot to get my hair dyed like this." The second and third times she mentioned that my hair looked like I had dyed it myself were as excuses for the terrible hair cut she gave me. Judy: "Your haircut looks bad because you dyed it yourself." Me: "uh, my haircut looks bad because you just cut it and now it it looks like I have a long splotchy mullet!" Second, Judy did not listen to what I wanted. I had requested cutting 3-4 inches off and adding some more layers. She cut off 6-10 inches in some places to the point that I can no longer put my hair in a ponytail. Also, she cuts hair with a dry method in which she straightens your hair first. This may be fine for some people with naturally straight hair, but for those with wavy hair like mine, this method doesn't make sense nor does it look good. This place gets two stars because my mom's pedicure turned out well and has lasted for over three weeks. I definitely will not be coming back here and you should only get a haircut here if you'd like some subtle insults along with a terribly botched haircut. read more

I took my elderly mom here to get her thick nails trimmed, and we both ended up getting a pedicure. They seemed efficient and pleasant. We were both happy, and the price was right (as my mom says, both of us get our pedicure for less than the price she would pay at Kaiser for just a trim). As we were heading out, a family showed up to get the kids hair cut, and the folks there seemed to be working well with the kids. A lovely surprise! Had my first visit to Judy's today, and was really impressed with the place. Everyone was extremely nice and friendly, Sonia's pedicure was top notch, the massage chair actually worked, and they didn't charge me for the flip-flops (I'd asked if I could buy some as I had closed-toe shoes). I was in a rush to leave but they asked me to sit for just a few minutes under the UV dryer, and gave me a nice neckrub/back massage. Not a super fancy place, but clean and well maintained. This is hands down the best kept secret for a haircut in Berkeley. They do a great job on your hair because they actually listen to you. I put my trust in them because they are outstanding hard workers, have some serious hair cutting skills, and there prices are an absolute bargain ($10 haircut). It's cheap enough for me to get a haircut every week. All people whom have gotten manicures or pedicures here appear to be repeat customers and they're are always leaving satisfied. Tonight, they closed at 7:00pm. I arrived with no appointment around 6:30pm and had some other services besides my haircut done also. They didn't rush me. I was still there at 7:10pm. Someone came in at that time. I watched as they happily took this women with her young son. Then Judy with no frown on her face got him and his mother out finished at 7:30pm. The mother then asked amazed "what time do you close". They want your business. That's why I love Judy, Helen, and Kim (and also the man that is there). I had to "up my tip" tonight. I just felt it inside (what is right is right). They all are very nice and you'll always notice that everyone that gets their services leaves with a smile on their face and in a good mood. Did I mention with all of this you get a free massage? :) Its usually a forehead, neck, and upper back massage. However, I usually specifically ask them for a scalp massage because that's what I like. If your into scalp massages, Judy told me that you can pay an optional additional $5 if you want a real extended head massage. :) They got everyone covered. :) I'm been telling my friend about them. They also told me that they cut African American hair there too. If you have a question regarding that, just ask them. I love the multicultural environment in there. You see many different cultures coming in and out of there. I'm shocked that this place is not rated with 4 1/2 to 5 stars as a whole. No offense, but, it would seem like you would have to be in a real grouchy mood to not like their services. Obviously, though if you did have a problem, you need to just tell them. I went in for a gel manicure, the lady rushed thru the whole thing andkept getting distracted by other things. My nails look horrible. She even noticed a part messed up on my pinky nail and did not correct. Then when she was "massaging" my arm she stood up and made me lift my arms up so she could reach. It was horrible!! Been getting my nails done here for more than 10 years. It's also my teenage son's preferred place for a haircut.

In the area for business and went along with a colleague who was looking for an acrylic fill. I'd let polish sit too long on my natural nails and didn't have any acetone at the hotel, so I thought I'd overcome my apprehension and give the salon a try. How bad could it be? Ooh boy. While I can't speak to the acrylic service, my overall experience was poor. The towels at the stations were clearly dirty, and the gentleman who did my nails was clearly not skilled. The filing was so rough that my nails were catching on fabric (and these are oval nails, they shouldn't catch on anything), my cuticles were ragged, and the polish was patchy and missed multiple places. I brought in my own, top-of-the-line polish, and he stroked it on so many times that it started to wipe off in places. He managed to apply this beautiful, two-coat full-coverage multichrome polish in a way that it was completely see-through. Immediately after applying topcoat to one nail, he bumped it. After realizing this, he scraped half of the polish off with his thumbnail and reapplied one thick, uneven coat and the topcoat. Look, I'm kind of a snob about my nails, but this manicure was really poorly executed. And I researched salon cleanliness when I got back and while they do have an autoclave, the hygiene was definitely lacking. Absolutely would not recommend. read more

Walked in and they had me choose a gel color- this is my fav part (little diva about it, I guess) but they didn't have a wide selection of colors I loved.. that was the only deduction I would give them!!
